Robert "Bobo" Sheehan
MIDDLEBURY - Robert "Bobo" Richard Sheehan, 76, a legendary Middlebury College ski coach, died at Porter Hospital on Sept. 3, 1999.
He was born in Newport, on Sept. 9, 1922, the son of Raymond E. and Viola (Rollins) Sheehan. He was a graduate of Middlebury College, class of 1944. In 1947, he married Leslie Ireland.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Naval Air Corps as a dive bomber.
He coached football, baseball, golf and skiing at Middlebury College from 1945 to 1967. His more than two decades at the helm of the Panther ski team produced two national titles and 11 Eastern championships. His talent led him to coach the 1956 men's alpine Olympic team and serve the next year on the Olympic committee overseeing skiing.
The Sheehan chairlift at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl was named in his honor.
In 1967, he moved to Reno, Nev., and became owner of the Reno Ski Shop. He retired to Palm Springs, Calif., but had continued to live in Middlebury during the summers, where he had presided over the Sheehan Family Classic golf tournament at the Ralph Myhre course. The event has also included appearances by his daughter, Patty, an LPGA Hall-of-Fame golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie; his sons, Butch of Reno, Nev., Jack and his wife, Priscilla, of Salisbury and Steve and his wife, Mary, of Reno, Nev.; a daughter, Patty Sheehan and Rebecca Gaston of Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Rae Cummings of Burlington and Jim Sheehan and his wife, Mildred, of Meriden, Conn.

Jessica Phillips
MIDDLEBURY - Jessica R. Phillips, 90, of Middlebury died Sept. 2, 1999, at the Addison House with her family and close friend Megan Batty at her side.
She was born April 21, 1909, in Middlebury, daughter of Adelle Ellis and William L. Stowe. She made her home with her aunt and uncle, Eugene and Grace Tucker in Lincoln. She attended schools in Lincoln and Bristol High School.
Jessica worked for the state of Massachusetts for several years before her marriage to Stanley Brown in 1929. She was later married to Chester Brush for 21 years. They lived in Middlebury and ran a taxi and bus service.
Jessica was a member of the Middlebury Methodist Church and the WSCS. She was also a 50-year member of the Case Street Home Dem. She was instrumental in founding the Round Robin and served as a volunteer for many years. Also she took great interest in the Fresh Air Fund children's program, having three children from the same family for over a period of 16 years.
She also raised a nephew, William G. Palmer, who predeceased her, and is survived by his wife, Ethel Palmer of Whiting.
In 1980, Jessica married Harry Phillips and they resided on Court Street an Middlebury until his death in 1994.
She is survived by a half-brother, Horace Dumas, his wife, Kay, and family; one sister-in-law, Lucille Dumas and family of Derby; a cousin, Lida Cloe of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert W. Stowe and Luther Stowe; a sister, Anita Leggett; and two half-brothers, Malcolm Dumas and Clayton Dumas.

A memorial service was held on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Middlebury. Graveside committal services followed Prospect cemetery in East Middlebury.
John Mahoney
AVON, Mass. - John M. Mahoney of Avon, a former Addison County educator, died on Aug. 31, 1999, after a long illness at New England Medical Center in Boston. He was the son of the late Margaret M. and Harold E. Mahoney and the husband of Suzanne (Crick) Mahoney, all of whom predeceased him.
Born in North Adams, Mass., he was a graduate of Drury High School where he was a four letter athlete who was named to the All-Berkshire County in three major sports in both his junior and senior years. Mahoney was considered one of the finest athletes in Drury High's history.
He graduated from Middlebury College, where he was a member of DKE fraternity and the Blue Key Society, with a degree in political science and English. While at Middlebury, Mahoney was an all-state back in football for three consecutive years, an All-State hoopster in basketball for two years and played varsity baseball for three years. In 1939 he was selected for the Little All-American Football Team.
Following graduation from Middlebury, he began his career in education as an English teacher and coach at Vergennes High School in Vermont.
Called to military service in February 1942, he was sent to Australia following his Signal Corps Basic Training at Fort Monmouth, N.J. He was commissioned in January 1944 in Australia and was stationed at Port Moresby and Hollandia during the New Guinea Campaign. He was the recipient of two Battle Stars and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Upon his return to Australia, he married the former Suzanne Crick, his wife for 44 years.
Upon his return to the United States, Mahoney was assigned to the Pentagon Communications Center in Washington. D.C.
After World War II he became an English teacher and varsity coach of football and baseball at Bennington High School in Vermont. It was there that he became active as an IBBAO basketball official at the high school and college levels. In 1951 he became the youngest official ever named to work the Vermont State Finals.
In 1951, he was recalled to active military service. He was assigned as an Assistant Professor of military science and tactics with the Northeastern University ROTC unit. While on active duty in Boston, he earned his master's degree in educational administration at Northeastern.
After the Korean Conflict, he earned his CAGS in educational administration from Harvard University and followed that with extensive graduate study at Bennington College, Williams College, Georgetown University and Boston University.
His first principalship was in Vergennes. He then moved to Middlebury to become the first principal of the new Middlebury Union High School from 1956 to 1961. In July 1961, Mahoney came to Brockton to serve as headmaster at Brockton High School until 1980.
Upon his retirement in June of 1980 for health reasons, he retained his memberships in the Massachusetts Teachers' Asso-ciation, the National Education Association, the Massachusetts Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Asso-ciation of Secondary School Principals and the Honorary Retired Reserve with the rank of major U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was also a past member of the Lions Club and the Vermont Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Melissa M.) Glaneuski of Brockton, two sons Christopher D. of Atlanta, Ga. and John H. of Avon; a sister, Elizabeth Milanesi of North Adams; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Friday in Brockton.
Dorothy Baker
SHOREHAM - Dorothy E. Baker, 94, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., died July 28, 1999.
She was born in Shawnee, Okla., Aug. 19, 1904. She moved to Chattanooga in 1949. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, the DAR, the Colonial Dames and the Dallas Crest Garden Club.
She is survived by one son, George Baker of Wayne, Pa., and Shoreham; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George M. Baker.

Gerald Bolduc
CORNWALL - Gerald H. Bolduc, 77, passed away on Aug. 27, 1999, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
He was born in St. Chrysostome, Canada, on July 19, 1922, to Henry and Leonie (Lemieux) Bolduc.
In 1926, his family came to the United States and resided in Addison County. In 1942, he married Pauline Ferguson at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. They purchased and operated a dairy farm in Cornwall.
He was the road commissioner for the town of Cornwall for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife Pauline of Cornwall; his son, Michael Bolduc and his wife Elizabeth, of Salisbury; his daughters, Nancy Vanier and her husband, Serge, of Cornwall and Susan Yustin and her husband, David, of Bridport; two brothers, Benoit Bolduc of Alabama and Dennis Bolduc of Bridport; his sisters, Alice Boise of Bristol, Irene Boise of New Haven, Simone Malzac of Middlebury, and Marceen Malzac of Middlebury; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Choquette, and two sisters, Gabrielle Bailey and Rejean Huestis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury. Interment and burial followed at St. Mary's cemetery. Tianna Kittredge
PANTON - Tianna (T.T.) Kittredge, 6, died Friday Aug. 27, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born on Nov. 12, 1992, in Middlebury, the daughter of David Kittredge and Donna Morrissey.
She attended Vergennes Union Elementary School.
She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Caitlin and Mary Margaret of Panton; her grandmother, Mary (NaNa) Kittredge of Panton; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday in Vergennes. Interment was in Prospect cemetery in Vergennes.
Robert Severy
BRANDON - Robert Fremont Severy, 65, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington.
He was born on the family farm in Brandon on July 26, 1934. He was the son of Hayden Fremont & Vivian (Lawrence) Severy.
He received his early education in Brandon schools and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1952. During his high school years, he was chosen as the delegate from Brandon to the Future Farmer's of America National Convention in Kansas City, Kan.
He had farmed all his life on the family farm and also had worked at Whelden Coal, White Pigment and Rutland Trees, as well as General Mills on Rossitier Street in Brandon.
He loved the outdoors and had a particular love of animals. He held a special place in his heart for his two grandsons, Daniel and Jonathon Severy.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Severy and Dale Severy, both of Brandon; one daughter, Elaine Smith of Salisbury; two sisters, Shirley Severy Stockwell of Jericho and Theda Rouse of Forest Dale; two grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father in 1982 and his mother in l987.
The funeral service was held on Thursday in Brandon. A graveside committal service and burial followed in the family lot at Pine Hill cemetery.

Rachel Mecklenberg
BRIDPORT/HINESBURG - Rachel Louise Senna Mecklenberg, 77, died Aug. 27, 1999, in Bridport.
She was born in Bolton on Feb. 25, 1922, a daughter of George and Louisa (Sears) Pearson. She graduated from Bolton schools.
She married Clement H. Senna in 1939. The marriage ended in divorce. In the 1950s she worked with her sister, Jane Sandene, in a beauty salon in Burlington until 1958, when she and her son moved to California. In 1959, she married Richard Mecklenberg. In 1970, she and her husband, along with her sister and brother-in-law, purchased a motel in Lake Tahoe and operated it until the mid-1980s when she moved back to Vermont.
She lived in Hinesburg until moving to Coos Bay, Ore., with her daughter. She later moved back to Hinesburg, then lived with her nephew, David Pearson, and his family in Bridport.
She is survived by her son, Richard C. Senna of Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Carol Ann Bery of Coos Bay, Ore., and Caroline Mecklenberg of Wash-ington; two sisters, Matilda Smith of Waterbury Center and Greta Sarven of Essex Junction; one brother, Guy Pearson of Desert Springs, Calif; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Katherine Williams and Hazel "Jane" Sandene, and one brother, Thomas Pearson.
The funeral service was set for Thursday at 4 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury.
Walter Stred Jr.
FERRISBURGH - Walter K Stred Jr., 51, died suddenly Sunday Aug. 22, 1999, at his home at Basin Harbor.
He was born April 14, 1948, in Ware, Mass., the son of Walter and Shirley (McLaughlin) Stred.
He had a lifelong involvement in Boy Scouts of America. He was the youngest Eagle Scout in Berkshire County and went on to become a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was an avid outdoors man who loved boating and nature.
He is survived by three sons, Walter A. Stred III of Clarksburg, Mass.; Brent Stred of Ferrisburgh, and Mark Stred of Clarksburg, Mass.; his father, Walter A. Stred of Lexington, Ky. and Sun City, Fla.; a sister, Linda Stred Gagnon of Damariscotta, Maine; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Stred home at Basin Harbor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with a reception to follow. Friends may call at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Vermont Division, 150 Kennedy Drive, South Burlington, Vt., 05403.
Carolyn Bry
DENVER, COLO. - Carolyn Ann Markey Bry, 65, died of cardiovascular disease on Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, in Denver, with her children and grandchildren at her side. She was born on Sept. 26, 1934, in Rutland, Vt. She leaves four children, Bruce Bry, Karen Schwalick, Kimberly Douthitt, Theresa Loomis, and four grandchildren. She also leaves five sisters and one brother, Janice Ameden of Arlington, Vt., Barbara Hoyt of Branson, Mo., Andrea Gori of Manteca, Calif., Joanne Weber of Bristol, Vt., Laraine Higuera of Dalton, Mass. and Francis Markey of Brattleboro, Vt.
She is predeceased by her parents. George and Charlotte Markey of Manchester, Vt., an infant brother, George Markey Jr., and an uncle, Francis DuCharme.
A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Aug. 16, 1999, in Colorado in Holy Cross Church, with the service and music planned and performed by her children and grandchildren. Interment is pending.
Bry was best known for her devotion to her family. Before her marriage, she worked in her father's real estate and insurance office in Manchester. Her father was very proud other and her work. Carolyn was grateful for more than 15 years in Alcoholics Anonymous, where she was a sponsor and friend to many. She was also known for many acts of charity to many causes and people in Denver where she resided.
