IVY BERTHA (WEBB) OVITT
FAIRFAX - A largely attended celebration of the life of Ivy Bertha (Webb) Ovitt was held on Monday, June 26, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. in the United Church of Fairfax with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Organist Lorraine Wood offered several favorite family selections including “Ave Maria” and “Grand Ole Flag” and accompanied congregational singing of special hymns including “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Loving memories were shared with all attending by family and friends. Representatives were present from various organizations including Fairfax Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens, Owls Club of St. Albans, United Church of Fairfax and Eastern Stars.
Interment followed in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery with Reverend Griffin offering committal prayers. A generous reception followed at the church sponsored by the Ladies of The United Church.
Bearers were grandsons, Samuel Ovitt, Robert Ovitt Jr., David Danyow Jr., Christopher Danyow, Eric Ovitt, Seth Ovitt; and great-grandsons, Joshua Jordan and Kyle Ovitt.
Arrangements were by John D. Workman of A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
CLINTON S. PAQUETTE
SWANTON - Graveside Services and Interment were held Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Paquette family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE pastor of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Alburgh and St. Joseph’s Mission, Isle La Motte officiated.
A large guard of honor was formed by members of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, St. Albans. Among the other delegations in attendance were representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Swanton, Vermont State Office of Economic Opportunity, Ray’s Extruder Die Service, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Elementary Schools, United States Department of Homeland Security, and Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Full Military Honors were accorded the deceased by members of the Vermont Army National Guard, Joint Forces Headquarters, Military Honors Detail. Officer in Charge was MSG Edward Daudelin. Members of the Firing Party were SFC Patricia Lavery, SSG Marty Branch, SGT Michael Dunham, SPC Darrel McClay, SPC Michael Audette, PFC Kyle Pelletier and PFC Timothy Graves. SPC Allen Moore sounded Taps. The American flag honoring the United States Army and World War II Veteran was presented to Clint’s wife, Mrs. Juliette Paquette by MSG Edward Daudelin.
Following The Prayers of Committal and Military Services a Bereavement Luncheon was served for family and friends at the Paquette home on Olive Street hosted by the family.
WILLIAM LEO HOUGLIN
ISLE LA MOTTE - Mr. William Leo Houglin, 64, a resident of the Isle La Motte community for the past 11 years, died early Sunday evening, June 25, 2006, in his home on the North Point Road.
Born in Louisville, Ky. on Feb. 8, 1942, he was the son of the late William Leo Sr. and Lilly Beatrice (Barnett) Houglin. He attended schools in Louisville and on June 16, 1962, was married to the former Grace L. Smith, who survives him.
Leo served in the United States Air Force retiring in 1980 after 21 years of service. He then became associated for 20 years with Lockeed-Martin and more recently was employed with Silhouette Tone of St. Albans and as custodian of the Isle La Motte Elementary School until illness forced him to retire. He was a member of the Alburgh Union Bible Church. Leo will be remembered as an avid bowler and enjoyed the challenges of golf. He also loved being outdoors especially doing anything and everything outside around his house.
Besides his wife Gracie of 44 years, he leaves his loving daughter, Terrie Lynn Romaine and husband, John of Valdosta, Ga.; two sons, Jeffery Leo Houglin, stationed with the United States Army at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas, and Kenneth Ray Houglin of Isle La Motte; seven grandchildren, Kevin Scott Houglin, Alexis Jacquelyn Quinones, Teal Elizabeth Martin, Christian Alan Houglin, Zachary Wayne Houglin, Marissa Nicole Romaine and Savannah Leigh Romaine; a sister, Nana Jean Mitchell and husband, Jeff of New Albany, Ind.; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Smith of Isla Morada, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Leo was predeceased by an infant son, Kevin Wayne Houglin in 1965; a sister, Sandra K. Houglin; and two brothers, Donald Ray Houglin and Gary Paul Houglin.
The Funeral Service followed by Full Military Honors will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Union Bible Church, Main Street, Alburgh Village. The Reverend Doctor John C. Kehoe will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
KIARA ROSE McRAE
Funeral services for Kiara Rose McRae, who passed away on June 19, 2006, were held on Thursday, June 22, 2006, in the Heald Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Cooper, Associate Pastor of Church of the Rock, officiating. Several persons in attendance offered memories of Kiara.
Casket Bearers were Kiara's father, Samuel McRae; and her grandfathers, Gordon McRae, and John Morrie.
Interment followed in the McRae family lot at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Pastor Cooper conducting a committal service. Following this, a reception was held for family and friends at Church of the Rock.
The Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans assisted the family with arrangements.
MARIE C. LUMBRA
Funeral services for Marie C. Lumbra, who passed away on June 19, 2006, were held on Friday, June 23, 2006, in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Charles Kuthe, Pastor of the Georgia Plain Baptist Church, officiating. A special poem, “Eternal Friendship,” was read by Cheryl Jewett. Special music, “Amazing Grace,” was sung by Karl Klein.
In attendance was representation from the Richford Lions Club, Northwest Counseling and Support Services, St. Albans Cemetery Association, the Office of Robert M. Zelazo, MD and Franklin County Surgical Associates.
Urn Ark Bearers were Marie’s grandchildren, Erik Fortin, Erika Fortin, Tim Harbin, John Fortin, Lindsey Shepard, Kaitlin Shepard, Kristen Begnoche and Chelsea Tessier.
Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Kuthe, interment took place in the Lumbra family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. A luncheon followed at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall hosted by Marie’s family. Assisting Marie’s family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
IVY B. (WEBB) OVITT
FAIRFAX - Ivy Bertha (Webb) Ovitt, age 85, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, June 22, 2006. She was born in Harbourne, England on Aug. 7, 1920, daughter of the late Samuel and Bertha (Brookes) Webb.
Ivy married Orman Ovitt on Nov. 3, 1940, in Fairfax. She built her life with Orman in Fairfax and spent 65 wonderful years caring for her beloved family celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 3, 2005. They loved getting together on Friday nights with Art and Margaret Webb, sharing dinner and laughter at the Country Pantry followed by a good game of Uno. They enjoyed playing Bongo with good friends, Fred and Marion Schibi, and never missed a good game of “500.” She loved collecting and sharing beautiful things.
Ivy was an excellent seamstress and quilter as a member of the Fairfax-Georgia quilters. One year Ivy compassionately made a pillow quilt for every family member. She was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star, Ladies of the United Church of Fairfax and Fairfax Senior Citizens. Grandma always looked forward to the family gathering at their home for Sunday dinners and special occasions. Ivy had an unconditional love for everyone and will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Orman Ovitt of Fairfax; her two sons, Robert Ovitt Sr. of Fairfax and former daughter-in-law, Gloria Ovitt - Ledoux, Richard Ovitt and his wife, Marcia of Essex Junction; three daughters, Barbara Sargent and her husband, Thomas of Georgia, Beverly Danyow and her husband, David Sr. of St. Albans Bay, JoAnne Godin and her husband, James of Jeffersonville; one brother, J. Douglas Webb of Fairfax; one sister, Frena Phillips and her husband, William of Westford; four sister-in-laws, Barbara MacKay, Marion Webb, Arlene Brown and Alice Marcotte; 14 grandchildren, Samuel Ovitt, Carol Jordan, Robert Ovitt Jr., Joan Sweet, Deborah Woodward, Melissa Minor, David Danyow Jr., Christopher Danyow, Heather Godin, Cheryl LaClair, Marie Godin, Eric Ovitt, Seth Ovitt and Michelle Ovitt; 16 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kody, Kole, Kaitlin, Jessica, Joshua, Brittany, Danielle, Jacob, Jarrett, Julia, Mary Grace, Jordan, Loudon, Genevieve and Bradly. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Jean; brother, S. William Webb; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles & Dorothea Wright, William Brown, John MacKay, Derrell Ovitt and Nellie Webb.
Visiting hours were held on Sunday, June 25, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services were held today (June 26, 2006) at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Fairfax with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial was to follow in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery.

PAUL J. PAQUETTE
ALBURGH CENTER - Paul J. Paquette, 78, a lifelong resident of Alburgh Center, passed away Saturday evening, June 24, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City after a long struggle of failing health due to diabetes.
Born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Alburgh, he was the son of the late Stanley and Almira (LaValley) Paquette. Paul attended Alburgh High School.
Paul faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was part of the European Theater. Following his discharge he married his long time friend and sweetheart, Kathryn Audrey James on Sept. 9, 1950, in Alburgh. He was very active in the community, 20 years on the Alburgh Selectboard, Grand Isle County Civil Board, Justice of the Peace and held numerous offices in American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburgh, where he was a lifetime member. Paul worked for the Rutland Rail Road, Citizens Utilities Co., P.J. Medor, Inc. (formerly S. J. Campbell) and after many years retired from Vermont Precision Tools. Paul loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew and/or worked with him.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, George Paquette; sisters, Sister Margaret Paquette, Pauline Paquette, Shirley Paquette; and granddaughter, Denise.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn of 55 years, he leaves one daughter, Sharon Bockus and her husband, Dan; one son, Richard Paquette and his wife, Bonnie, all of Alburgh; two grandchildren, Robbie Calderwood and his wife, Thomasina of Swanton and Brian Paquette of Grand Isle, and a great-grandson, Brandon Calderwood of Swanton; five sisters, Marion Lauzon of Swanton, Lorraine Soule of New Hampshire, Gertrude Poquette of Connecticut, Donalda Paquette and longtime companion, Carl of Connecticut, Anita Robinson of New Jersey; one brother, Philip Paquette and his wife, Lenia of Connecticut; as well as many nieces, nephews and very close friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to caregivers Judy Rollins, Lynn Martin, Lisa Conger and Mary McDermott of Care Connection. Doctor Ned Shulman, Dr. Mara Vijups and the Intensive Care Nurses for the wonderful care provided to their father.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburgh Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, will be the celebrant and homilist. Relatives and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Interment will follow in the Paquette Family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery.

CLINTON S. PAQUETTE
SWANTON VILLAGE - Clinton S. Paquette, 86, a lifelong area resident, died at his Olive Street residence on Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2006, surrounded by his family.
Born in St. Albans on June 2, 1920, he was the son of the late Alexander Roger and Sarah Matilda (Zweeres) Paquette. On May 24, 1947, he was married to the former Juliette Garceau, who survives him. He was associated with Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point for many years. Clint enjoyed seasonal camping with family and friends.
Clint faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was involved in seven campaigns including the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 St. Albans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 Swanton.
In addition to his wife Juliette of 59 years of Swanton, he leaves three daughters, Sue Beck and husband, Fred and Gale Hoague and husband, Charles all of Swanton, and Cathy Paquette and fiancé, Hibbard Doe of Richford; three sons, Allen Paquette and wife, Joyce of Deland, Fla. and Michael and Brian Paquette, both of St. Albans; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Pelican, Lorraine Root, Catherine Quebec and Charlotte Gratton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was also predeceased by four brothers, Hubert, Robert, Clifford and Alexander Jr. Paquette.
Graveside Services and Interment will take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Paquette family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, will officiate. At the family’s request there will be no public calling hours.

JAMES L. BARTLETT
YULEE, Fla. / ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Memorial services have been scheduled for James (Jim) Lincoln Bartlett who died on Feb. 14, 2006, in Yulee, Fla.
Jim was born June 22, 1947, in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of the late Allan J. Bartlett Jr. and Elizabeth A. (Kliensmith) Bartlett, formerly of Stowe, Vt.
He was a longtime resident of St Albans before moving to Florida in recent years. He was a graduate of Peacham Academy in Peacham, Vt. and went on to attend Champlain College in Burlington. Jim was a proud member of the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1973. He was employed for 20 years with the Central Vermont Railways in St Albans. Jim was an avid historian, military gaming enthusiast, photographer, and cribbage player.
Jim is survived by his wife Donna Karissa (Beckham) Bartlett of Yulee, Fla.; his daughter, Amy (Bartlett) Cowan and her husband, Craig of St. Albans, Vt.; as well as her mother, Linda Baker Bartlett of St Albans. Jim is also survived by his second wife, Mary (Hoague Reynolds) Bartlett and her children, Alan Hoague, Chadwick Reynolds, and Nicole Reynolds of St. Albans. Surviving family members include his two brothers, William and Susan (Walker) Bartlett of Hyde Park, Vt. and David Bartlett of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Susan and her husband, Jere Johnston of Baton Rouge, La.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Gadue of Stowe, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces.
Memorial services will take place on the evening of June 27, 2006, at 7 p.m. at Brady and Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St Albans. Burial services will take place the following day, June 28, at 1 p.m. in the Vermont Veteran Cemetery in Randolph, Vt.

COL. HARRY SAMUEL SPAULDING JR., M.D. ‘SAM’
Colonel Harry Samuel Spaulding Jr., M.D., 75, of Aurora, Colo., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, died on June 18, 2006. Col. Spaulding died tragically in a hiking accident on McKelligon Canyon near an area called Sugarloaf in El Paso, Texas.
Sam was born on Dec. 12, 1930, in Waterbury, Vt. to Jessamine and Harry Spaulding Sr. He grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1948 and continued his education to receive a B.S. from the Albany College of Pharmacy in 1953, a Masters Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Duquesne University College of Pharmacy in 1955. He married Yolande Tourangeau of Montreal, P.Q. on July 6,1957. He received a M.D. degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1959.
Col. Spaulding served proudly and with honor in the U.S. Army from 1960-1967 and again from 1971-1993. He had a distinguished and enjoyable career with the Army where he worked as a Pediatrician and also as an Allergist. Sam cherished many long lasting friendships throughout his career. He always enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. His hunting buddies were always very special to him and he always looked forward to their next trip. He was a 40-year member of the Masonic Lodge. “Sam, as many knew, divulged an aura of charisma in his personality. Whether he was at a military exercise or just with family or friends, he always exemplified being a great American. His wealth of friends stretched from Waterbury, Vt. to Denver, Colo., to Germany and to many other parts of our world. He left us trying to accomplish something he loved doing-giving his devoted service to our great country. May you rest in peace “Sam,” we will miss all your wonderful traits and friendship immensely.
Col. Spaulding is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Yolande; his sons, Marc and wife Sharon, Daniel, Harry III, and Jonathan and wife, Teresa; daughter, Michelle and husband, Heath; his grandchildren, Harry IV, Savannah, Emily, Meghan, Maddison, Samuel Wyatt, and Elodia; his brothers, Dexter and his wife, Judy, and their children, Troy and his wife, Louise, Natalie and her husband, Kevin, Bruce and his wife, Cheryl and their children, Loren and wife, Fran, Stacy and husband, Brian and Jason. Also many other family members and dear friends. He is also survived by a special uncle, Richard Hertzel of East Greenbush, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made to either “Raise the Roof Fund” at The Nativity Church, 65 Canada St., Swanton, Vt.; or to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 57 South Main St., Waterbury, Vt.
Funeral services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo., on June 26, 2006, at 11 a.m., staging area B. There will be a Memorial Service to be held at a later date in Waterbury, Vt.
MARY KATHERINE (BROWN) TALLMAN
BELVIDERE - Mary Katherine (Brown) Tallman, age 87, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Copley Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary was one of nine children and was born on Jan. 11, 1919, in Belvidere, Vt., daughter of the late Ashton and Sylvia (Hutchins) Brown of Belvidere.
She married Kenneth Willis Tallman on June 20, 1936, in Cambridge, Vt. Kenneth predeceased her on July 1, 1987. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign wars of The United States, St. Albans Chapter Post 758. Mary held different town offices over the years. Her last project was to help get the United Christian Society, Inc. in Belvidere Junction reopened for services. Mary will be greatly missed by all those who had the true pleasure to know and love her.
She is survived by three sons, Hugh and his wife, Myrna of Belvidere, Cecil and his wife, Jill of California. Gene and his wife, Arlene of Belvidere.; one brother, Curtis Brown and his wife, Lucille of St. Albans; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Louella Bessette, Betty Ashline, Sue Brown; her brothers, Carrol, Wilbur, Amsden, and Larry.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 23, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St., Fairfax. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the United Christian Society, Inc., 6653 VT Route 109, Belvidere Jct., Vt. at 12:30 p.m. with Roland Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Belvidere Center Cemetery.

SHEILA ANN BOUCHARD
ST. ALBANS - Funeral services for Sheila Ann Bouchard, who passed away on June 15, 2006, were held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with Rabbi David Steinberg of Ohavi Zedek Synagogue conducting the Jewish Rite of Burial. One of Sheila’s best friends, Marie Bessette, spoke of the good times and memories from “camping with the girls” at Lake Carmi.
In attendance were representatives of Franklin County Home Health Agency, the Red Hat Society, Vermont Service Center of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Homeland Security), S. R. Smith Real Estate, Husky Corporation of Milton, former employees of the Central Vermont Railway, and Grice Brook Association.
Casket bearers were Steven Shortt, Steven West, Bob Marquette, Gil St. Amand, John Crepeau, and Jim Shepard.
Interment followed in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery with Rabbi Steinberg offering the readings of committal and leading the attendees in the Jewish customs of burial. Following this a reception was held for family and friends at the Hawk’s Nest on Route 104.
The Heald Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
