JAMES D. BEDARD
SHELDON - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. for Mr. James Dean Bedard in Holy Angels Church, due to the capacity of St. Anthony’s Church. St. Anthony’s Pastor Father Bernard Bechard, S.S.E., was the celebrant. Norman Bushey and Russell Porwitzky were the altar servers. Sister Cecile LeBeau read the Holy Scripture Lessons and Prayers of the Faithful. Claire Hungerford was the organist and soloist.
The Principal for the Department of Corrections High School, Steven LaTullippe, talked about Jim’s life with the Department, years with the Probation and Parole Department, his hobbies of hunting, music, farming and playing practical jokes as well as his devotion to his wife and family. He also played a recording of "Let Me Go Home."
The cortege was escorted to the Church and St. Anthony’s Cemetery by Deputy Sheriff Jay Sweeny and State Police Officer John McCallum, assisted by the St. Albans City Police Department at the intersections.
Holy Angels was extended beyond capacity with a guard of honor from the Vermont Department of Probation and Parole standing during the entire services. Also present were representatives of many Vermont State Departments, Franklin Sheriff’‘s Department, Swanton Police Department, St. Albans Police Department, Vermont State Police, Hartford Fire Department, Vermont House of Representatives, Vermont Senate, The Hair Loft, Peoples Trust Bank, A. N. Deringer, Bellows Free Academy, Northwest Corrections Center, Northwestern Medical Center, Franklin County Home Health Agency, M & R Beverage, Rene’s Grocery Store, and Quick Stop, Warner’s Snack Bar, B 2 B, Ray’s Extruder Die Service, many associates of Bedard Refrigeration and several Sheldon neighbors.
During Visitation at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, the door was guarded as was a guard of honor posted each side of Jim by the Honor Guard of the Vermont Department of Corrections, under the direction and command of Reginald Lantagne. The Guard members were Tello Young, Steve Stavley, Robert Berthiaume, Robert Papariello and Michael Dounetos. They were also part of the Guard at the Church entrance.
Bearers were Steven Latullippe, Steven Bushey, Daryl Longley, Robert Bedard, Lawrence Lawton, Jesse Littlefield, Patrick Parah, and Shawn Stech.
Following prayers of Committal by Father Bechard, the Corrections Honor Guard presented Jim’s wife, Suzanne Bedard, with a Proclamation of Consolation and a Vermont flag that had been flown over the State Capitol Building. Interment was then in the Bedard family lot in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Sheldon.
Thursday evening, Father Bechard held a prayer service with Jim’s family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
KALEB ALLAN SYLVESTER
MONTGOMERY - Kaleb Allan Sylvester, age 13, passed away in a tragic accident in Montgomery on Friday morning, Aug. 10, 2007.
Kaleb was born July 3, 1994, in St. Albans, the son of Nicole Sylvester and Robert W. Gendron.
Kaleb spent his life in Montgomery and was getting ready to enter the 8th grade at the Montgomery Elementary School. Kaleb was loved by everyone; he was always like a bowl of sunshine to be around and loved to make everyone laugh. He loved to play baseball and basketball. He had a love for country music and liked to sing and had a great memory for song lyrics. He also loved Chevy trucks and especially liked to pick on how much better a Chevy was than a Ford.
Kaleb loved his family and especially loved spending time with his father cutting wood, building his cabin, and four-wheeling. He was also anxious to learn the family business, Sylvester’s Excavating with his Papa and uncle, Little Paul. He had a great love for animals too and enjoyed riding his mother’s horse, “Pride.” He also loved to play cards with his Gram. Kaleb was also looking forward to the birth of his new baby brother or sister.
He is survived by his parents, Nicole Sylvester and Robert Gendron of Montgomery; his maternal grandparents, Paul Sylvester of Montgomery, Becky Wilson (also Uncle Dave) of Troy; paternal grandparents, Robert and Diane Gendron of Montgomery; maternal great-grandparents, Aldea Sylvester of Montgomery, Asa and Gen Wilson of Richford; his aunt, Jill and cousins Megan and Hunter; uncle Paul, his wife Kristi, and cousin Gracie; aunt Renee and cousins, Lisa Marie, Dustin and Whitney; aunt Mag and cousins, Stacy, Alan, Lynda, Little Alan, Adam and Katelyn; uncles and aunts, Asa and Bonnie Wilson, Virgle and Rose Wilson, David and Krystal Wilson, Susie Wilson, Scott and Lynda Coons, Sheila Wilson, Alfred and Carolyn Gendron, and Leo and Polly Gendron; and many cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, Aug. 14, 2007, at 11 at St. Isidores Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Isidores Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

YOLANDE J. DEZIEL
MAQUAM SHORE, SWANTON - Mrs. Yolande J. Deziel, age 77 years, a resident of Maquam Shore for the past nine years, died suddenly late Friday evening, Aug. 10, 2007, at the Northwestern Medical Center.
Born in Drummondville, Quebec Canada, on April 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Antonia (Joyal) Lauziere. She attended schools in Canada and on Sept. 1, 1951, was married to Benoit O. Deziel, who survives her.
Besides her husband of 56 years, Mrs. Deziel leaves a daughter, France Hackett and her husband, Kenneth of Maquam Shore; a son, Michael Deziel of Westfield, Mass.; three grandchildren, Michelle Bailey of East Springfield, Mass. and Melanie and Justin Hackett of Swanton; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Brandon Bailey; four sisters, Rejeanne LaPierre, Janine Lauziere and Ginette Lauziere, all of Drummondville, and Gerty Lauziere of Laval; one brother, Denis Lauziere of Drummondville; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial and Interment will take place later in Drummondville, Quebec.

ERWIN KARL ‘POPPY’ WIMBLE
Image GEORGIA - Erwin Karl “Poppy” Wimble, 85, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away on Saturday evening, Aug. 11, 2007, at the Franklin County Rehab Center with his loving family at his side. He was born in Milton, Vt. on April 18, 1922, the son of the late Noel and Jennie (Hanley) Wimble. In October of 1943, he married the former Idabelle Clarice Ellis, who preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 1998.
Karl served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He came back and started his farming career, working on the Wimble family farm on Georgia Mountain, he then worked for the Elijah Palmer farm in Georgia, then moved to the Warner family farm in Fairfax and finally the Post Farm in Georgia. Karl then started in the farm machinery business working for Jack Klecka Farm Machinery in Georgia. Then in 1971, Karl and Idabelle started the Wimble & Son Farm Machinery Shop on Route 104A in Georgia, which he operated until his retirement in 1989. He also looked forward to each spring, when the sugaring season started. Karl enjoyed going to square dances in Milton, and was known by his family as a “Tinkerer,” taking care of all of his families general repair needs. He was a self-taught mechanic, learning his trade while running the family farm.
Survivors include his children, Leona Palmer and her husband, Richard Sr., Joan Blackmore and her husband, Butch, and David Wimble and his wife, Debbie, all of Georgia, and Wanda Mossey and her husband, Alan of Milton; his grandchildren, Richard Palmer Jr. and his wife, Kelly, Alonzo Blackmore and his wife, Christine, Kim Donahue and her husband, Thomas, Andrew Blackmore and his girlfriend, Cara Parizo, Jess Wimble and his wife, Allyson, Jason Wimble and his wife, Jill, Jamie Moody and her husband, Brad, Alan Mossey and his wife, Tammy, Kirk Mossey and his wife, Cathy, Karl Mossey and his wife, Jody, Lea Mossey and her boyfriend, Jeff LaFrance, and Tia Rooney and her husband, Max; his great-grandchildren, Amelia and Matthew Palmer, Makayla, Sabrina, Kaitlynn, Brandon, and Morgan Wimble and Hailey Moody, Brittany, Bruce, Kirk II, Taylor, Shelby, Hunter, Megan, and Zachary Mossey and Seamus, Sydney and Aiden Rooney. Karl is also survived by his sister, Mable Bonnett of St. Albans; his sisters-in-law; Ramona Wimble and Pat Wimble, both of Georgia, and Nancy Martin of Hinesburg; his brothers-in-law, Robert Ellis and Alfred Ellis and his wife, Esther, all of Georgia. In addition to his parents and his wife, Karl was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Jordan Wimble; his brothers, William Wimble and his wife, Marguerite, Maurice Wimble and Kenneth Wimble; his brothers-in-law, Fred Bonnett Sr. and Fred Martin Sr.; his sisters-in-law, Erma Yantz and her husband, Roland, and Connie Ellis.
Karl’s family would like to thank his “special granddaughter,” Kim Donahue and her husband, Tommy for the love and care that they gave him. Also to Club Respite, Franklin County Rehab family and friends for all of their assistance.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at 12 noon at the Georgia United Methodist Church in Georgia Center with Pastor Sam Newton officiating. Interment will follow in the Wimble family lot in Milton Village Cemetery. Karl’s family will receive friends on Thursday at the Methodist Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. YVONNE CECILE THERRIEN
ST. ALBANS - Yvonne Cecile Therrien, 82 of St. Albans, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 12, 2007, in the Franklin County Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans after a long courageous battle with Dementia.
Yvonne was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Alburgh, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bernadette Theoret Martell.
On May 26, 1951, she married Raymond E. Therrien in St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Hinesburg. He predeceased her on Aug. 1, 1984.
Yvonne enjoyed her many trips to Maine where she loved being by the ocean.
Yvonne is survived by her son, Joe Therrien of Milton; and her sister, Sister Lucienne Martell of Manchester, N.H.; and her close friends and family members, Margaret Titus and Gladys Rocheleau.
She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Bernadette Valliere and Theresa Martell; and her brother, Prosper Martell.
It is requested that flowers or donations be omitted. One’s love and support is all that is needed and was greatly appreciated by Yvonne and her family.
A special thank you from Yvonne and her family to the nursing home staff at Franklin County Rehab and Pillsbury Manor for the excellent care and compassion extended to Yvonne during her stay with them.
There will be no visiting hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church on the corner of Pine and Flynn Street in Burlington. Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery.

IRENE LOIS TRAYAH
MILTON - Irene Lois Trayah, 87 of Milton, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at Birchwood Terrace Health Care in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family, following a long illness.
Irene was born on Nov. 7, 1919, in Milton, the daughter of George and Lucia (Robar) Savoy.
On Nov. 28, 1936, she married Maurice Trayah. Maurice predeceased her on March 15, 1961.
Irene worked for Coca-Cola for many years, retiring in 1991. She was very active in many organizations. She was the Past National Chaplin of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Past Dept. President of the Vermont Legion Auxiliary, as well as a lifetime member of the Auxiliary Unit 57, and the Milton Grange 522.
Irene is survived by her children, Maxine Sweeney of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Marie Bushey of Georgia, Sandra Shepard and her husband, Donald of Colchester, Wayne Trayah and his wife, Lucy of Colchester and Andrea Lammly and her husband, Christopher of Milton; by 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Catherine Dupree and her husband, Norman of Colchester; her sister-in-law, Beverly Savoy; son-in-law, Donald Bushey of Burlington; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Earl; daughter, Pauline Bushey; granddaughter, Susan Shatney; grandson, Richard Bushey Sr.; sons-in-law, Elwin Sweeney and Maynard Bushey; and her brothers, Earl, Arthur and Paul Savoy.
Irene’s family would like to extend their special thanks to Dr. H. Daniel Donnelly of Williston and the nurses and staff of the Special Care Unit at the Birchwood Terrace Health Care in Burlington, where Irene was given excellent care for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Feltz on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Milton.

SHELDON - A Christian Mass for the Burial of a Child for Maria-Lynn Beagle-Carrier was held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church in Sheldon with Father Bernard Bechard, S.S.E. the celebrant. Her short life was celebrated by the many family and friends who attended the service. A beautiful display of pictures was placed in the church, in remembrance of Maria-Lynn.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

ENOSBURG FALLS - Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church with Rev. Cheryl Heater officiating. Organist and Soloist was Claire Hungerford.
Readings and words of remembrance were given by Joyce’s daughter, Cindy Vaillancourt, and granddaughters, Andrea and Dena Vaillancourt.
Interment followed in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Jackson, Michael Jackson, Adam Goss, Dale LaRose, Lomby LaBelle, and Richard LaBelle.
In attendance were delegations from the Northwestern Medical Center and Eveready Battery.
Following the committal the family gathered at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church for a luncheon prepared by the church family.
Spears Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
ERNEST E. ROCHELEAU
Image ST. ALBANS - Mr. Ernest E. Rocheleau, affectionately known as "Dag," died Sunday evening, Aug. 12, 2007, in the Haven Health Care Center. He was born in St. Albans, Aug. 16, 1920, son of the late Louis and Adeline (Nichols) Rocheleau.
He was a heavy anti-aircraft crewman in the U. S. Marine Corps during WW II and participated in action against the Japanese at Angaur in the Palau Islands. Upon return to St. Albans he became employed at the Central Vermont Railway and retired after 42 years of service as a teletype supervisor. He also worked for the Vermont Gas Company part-time all of his working life. Following retirement he drove cars for Don Cobb at the Cobb Auto Sales. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758. He was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, boating and being with his family.
May 13, 1947, he married Marie Shepard. She died July 22, 1985. May 25, 1991, he married Gertrude Martin-Boesch. Besides his wife, Gertrude, affectionately known as Trudy, Dag is survived by his daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Michael King, of Highgate; son, Jeffrey, and his wife, Betty Rocheleau, of Grand Isle; daughter, Mary, and her husband, Bruce Wolffing, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; son, James Rocheleau of Myakka, Fla.; daughter, Alicia and her husband, Frank Broderick of Ramsey, N.J.; nine grandchildren; sisters and their husbands, Carita and Roger Cadieux of Georgia, Corrine Rocheleau and Rita and Wayne Sweeney, all of St. Albans; a brother-in-law, Edward Vock of Theresa, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, and his parents, he was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Alfred, Harold (Omer) and George Rocheleau, Yvonne Vock, Cecile Deslauriers and Hortense Levesque.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will follow the Mass in the Rocheleau family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

STAR (BILLADO) CALVERT
CATSONVILLE, Md. / ENOSBURG FALLS, Vt. - Star (Billado) Calvert passed away on July 26, 2007, of COPD. She was born Nov. 20, 1947, the daughter of Kenneth and Elaine Billado.
She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, John Calvert; mother-in-law, Ester Calvert of Maryland; her mother, Elaine Billado, of Twin Falls, Idaho; her children, Amy Mears and husband, Travis of St. Albans; two sons, Timothy Calvert and Brian Calvert, wife Gina of Maryland; three grandchildren, Cody, Dylan Mears of St. Albans, Vt., and Danielle Calvert of Maryland; her sisters, Debbie Gross and friend, Rene Robitaille, of Enosburg; Peanut and Laurie of Twin Falls, Idaho; a very close cousin, Jean Bryce and husband, John of Enosburg; several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; plus several half brothers and sisters She is predeceased by her father, Kenneth Billado; a son, Marcel Beaulieu; and her brother, Michael Billado; as well as several other loved ones.
Graveside Service given by family will be held on Aug. 25, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at Missisquoi Cemetery, Enosburg Falls.
ERWIN KARL WIMBLE
GEORGIA - Largely attended funeral services for Erwin Karl Wimble, who passed away on Aug. 11, 2007, were held on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at 12 noon at the Georgia United Methodist Church with Pastor Sam Newton officiating. Musical selections, “Amazing Grace,” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” were by organist Gerry Lee Carson and by those in attendance. Special music, “O the Gentle Hands of Jesus” was by vocalist, Stuart Newton.
In attendance and forming a Guard of Honor were members from Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Also in attendance was representation from Georgia Volunteer Fire Department, Fairfax Fire Department, Georgia Town Offices, Fairfax Town Offices, Wimble Auto Sales, Milton Town Offices, Georgia Historical Society, Club Respite, Titan Construction, J&A Excavating, Georgia Plain Baptist Church, Ascension Parish, R.L. Vallee, Inc., J.A. Roberts Painters, Bonnett Welding Shop, G&T Welding, Northwestern Medical Center and several area farmers.
Casket bearers were Richard Palmer Jr., Alan Mossey II, Alonzo Blackmore II, Kirk Mossey, Karl Mossey, Andrew Blackmore, Mike Spaulding, and Tommy Donahue.
The United States flag from the World War II veteran’s casket was presented to his daughter, Leona Palmer by Edgar Royer, representing the veteran’s organizations.
Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Newton, interment took place in the Wimble family lot in Milton Village Cemetery. A luncheon followed in the church fellowship hall, hosted by the church family. Assisting Karl’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
HENRY L. ‘HERKY’ MAYO
Image ST. ALBANS - Henry L. “Herky” Mayo, 79, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a brief illness. Henry was married to Mary (Crawford) Mayo, who predeceased him on Dec. 30, 2004.
He was an Army Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. For several years, “Herky” owned and operated Mayo’s Restaurant on Lake St. in St. Albans.
He leaves three sons: William L. and his wife, Susan B. Mayo of Franklin, Michael H. and his wife, Anne Marie Mayo of St. Albans, and L. John and his wife, Paula J. Mayo of Swanton; a daughter, Karen T. Mayo and her husband, Eric Personoski of Leland, N.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Marcel Beaulieu of Swanton; two brothers-in-law, Jim Crawford and his wife, Diane of St. Albans, and Keith Crawford and his wife, Denise of Swanton; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at 6 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, conducted by the brethren of Franklin Lodge 4 F&AM with visiting hours being held from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the funeral.
DOUGLAS J. DUCHAINE
ALBURGH - Douglas J. Duchaine, 75, a life long resident of the Alburgh community, died late Friday morning, Dec. 21, 2007, at the home of his daughter, with his loving and dear family at his beside.
Born in Alburgh on July 11, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Flora (Pelkey) Duchaine, He attended Alburgh Schools and many years later achieved his GED.
He was member of St. Amadeus Church in Alburgh. He married the former Jean Hislop, who predeceased him on April 7, 2004. He was former member of the Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and National Rifle Association. Doug worked his father’s dairy farm for many years, was a heavy equipment operator for Francis Waite Construction Co., a bridge attendant and retired from the State of Vermont in the Forest and Parks Department. Doug was an avid sportsman and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in the woods each November deer hunting with his wife, Jean.
Doug is survived by his five children: a son, Danny Duchaine and his wife, Wanda of Alburgh, four daughters, Shirley Bohannon and her husband, Ray, Laura Esposito and her husband, Peter, Bonnie Cicia and her husband, Joseph, and Tammy Poquette and her husband, Ross, all of Alburgh; one sister, Lottie Santor of Alburgh; and a brother, David Duchaine and his wife, Jan of Shelburne; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Doug loved his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Russell Duchaine; daughter, Carol Duchaine; grandson, James Palmer; and a brother-in-law, Albert Santor.

Ridgley, pastor of the Island Roman Catholic Parish, will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Duchaine Family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery in Alburgh. Friends and family may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
