ISABEL F. BAKER
RICHFORD - Isabel F. Baker, age 101, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 2, 2006, at the Ave Maria Community Care Home in Richford.
She was born Nov. 15, 1904, in Montgomery, Vt., the daughter of the late Clara E. Baker.
Isabel was a life long resident of the area and had worked for several area families as a housekeeper. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford. She had made her home at Ave Maria Community Care Home for the last seven years where she enjoyed putting together puzzles and visiting with the other residents.
Isabel leaves several cousins in the area as well as her many friends at Ave Maria Community Care Home in Richford. She is also survived by Merrill Cabana of Montgomery, who has served as Isabel’s guardian for the past 36 years. Besides her mother she was predeceased by her very good friend, Yvonne Bressette.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at 10 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Reverend Theobald Richard celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

ENOSBURG FALLS - Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial, assisted by Leonard Charron. Organist was Kirsten Hayes.
Readings were said by Richard Brodeur and Avis Gervais. Offertory gifts were presented by Christopher Brown, Sarah Jewett and Lynn Raymond.
Interment followed in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Andrew Brodeur, Steven, Michael & David Gervais, Fred Jewett and Joe Allen. Following committal prayers, military honors were accorded by Sgt. Tina Churchill and Sgt. Mark Churchill of the Vermont Army National Guard presenting the American flag to Hector’s widow, Denise Brown.

ROBERT J. PERRY
SHELDON - Robert J. Perry, age 41, fondly known as “Robbie,” died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Aug. 31, 2006, a few hours after being admitted to the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in St. Albans, May 1, 1965, son of Charlotte (Gonyeau) and the late Herman J. Perry.
He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy, Class of 1984. For the past seven years, he has been employed at Barry Callebaut, USA. Robbie was a devoted father, husband and friend to many. He enjoyed all kinds of music and also enjoyed ice fishing. Whenever he was at any gathering, he was the jokester and life of the party. He was widely known for his humorous entertainment.
His survivors include his wife, Regan Garland Perry, whom he married July 17, 1999; his three children, Jessica Ladd and her special friend, Richard Ploof of St. Albans, Danielle Perry and Kyle Perry, both at home; his mother, Charlotte Bergeron and her companion, Howard Ward of Sheldon Springs; sisters, Tracie Perry of Burlington, Sarah and her husband, Jesse Weatherwax of Enosburgh; brother, Leonard Ostrout of St. Albans; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Bocash of St. Albans; mother-in-law, Lorraine Garland of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, including a very special uncle, Bill Gonyeau of Sheldon Springs. He was predeceased by his father, Herman James Perry; step-father, Richard Bergeron Sr.; maternal grandparents, Howard and Eva Gonyeau; paternal grandfather, Herman Arthur Perry; and father-in-law, Michael Garland.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Dennis Hayward, Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday. Interment will be in the Perry family lot in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Sheldon Springs.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to omit flowers and send memorials for the continued education of his children, in care of Charlotte Bergeron, P.O. Box 96, Sheldon Springs, Vt. 05485.

VICTORIA NOELLA CLAPPER
FRANKLIN / HIGHGATE - Mrs. Victoria Noella Clapper, age 84 years, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
A native of Highgate, Mrs. Clapper has been resident at the Franklin Homestead and more recently the Franklin Carriage House over the past 14 years.
Born in Highgate on Dec. 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Margaret D. (Raymo) Machia. She attended Highgate schools and was married to Gordon Meader, who predeceased her in 1974. She later married Ralph Clapper who also predeceased her on Aug. 13, 1991.
Mrs. Clapper remained very active in her retirement years and was involved in several local senior citizen organizations. She enjoyed the outdoors, planting a garden growing vegetables and fishing, but her greatest love was cooking and feeding her family and friends.
She leaves three daughters, Bonnie Feathers, Susan Olender and husband, Stanley, and Sherry Van Coughnett, all of New York State; a step-son, Randall Clapper and wife, Barbara of Connecticut; two sisters, Peggy McGaughey of Connecticut and Doris Raymond of South Carolina; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandy Thomas, who resided in Vermont.
A Graveside Funeral Service and Interment will be held Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. from the Clapper family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. Mr. Theodore Hemenway Sr. will officiate. All relatives and friends are invited to a time of fellowship following the service at the Felco Room of the Franklin Carriage House, 114 Homestead Drive, Franklin Village.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts in Mrs. Clapper’s memory be made to Franklin Rescue, in care of Pauline Gadbois, 3764 State Park Road, Enosburgh Falls, 05450.

JUDY C. BERRY
MILTON - Judy C. Berry, 62, died early Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born in Bellows Falls, Vt. on Sept. 28, 1944, the daughter of Lawrence and Rogene (Marckres) Carr.
On Jan. 21, 1967, she married Thomas Berry in Jericho, Vt. She and Tom had lived in Jericho and Milton. Judy had worked for UVM in the Registrars Office.
In more recent years, Judy was very active with the Arrowhead Seniors and the Milton Gardening Club. She also belonged to the Church of the Nazarene in Williston, where she belonged to Senior Adult Ministry’s Club.
Judy and Tom recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter, Sarah Watson and her husband, Victor, and their children, Amanda, Nichola, Molly and Christina, all of Milton; by her son, Thomas Berry Jr. and his wife, Miriam and their son, Elisha of Burlington; by her brothers, Thomas Carr and his wife, Robin of Georgia, and David Carr and his wife, Janice of Bakersfield; her sister-in-law, Lee Violette and her husband, Clair of Bristol, Conn.; and by several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Williston. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery in Milton.

STANLEY R. CUMMINGS
ST. ALBANS - A funeral service for Stanley R. Cummings, who died April 9, 2007, was held on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Andre Houle, pastor, assisted by Deacon Jack Rixon, celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Altar servers were John Manahan, Gabriel Gagne, and Robert LeClair, who also read from the Old Testament. Donald Poirier read from the New Testament and Deacon Rixon proclaimed the Gospel. Vocalist was Marie Chevalier accompanied by Steven Marchand on the organ.
The white pall was placed upon the casket by Stan’s sons, Scott, Steve and Jay, and the crucifix was placed upon the pall by Stan’s brother, Richard. Altar gifts were presented by Stan’s daughters-in-law, Wendy, Kathleen and Jennifer, and his granddaughter, Danielle. The casket was led into the church and, after the Mass, out of the church by bagpiper, Jim McKenzie.
Casket bearers were sons, Scott, Steve and Jay; brother, Richard; and friends, Stanley Beauregard and Steve Courville. Words of remembrance and a tribute to Stan were offered by longtime friend and fellow journalist, Nat Worman.
In attendance were Stan’s classmates from the Class of 1953 at St. Mary’s High School, and representatives of Mimmo & Co., Franklin County Museum, Strategic Solutions for Business, AmCare Ambulance, St. Albans Fire Dept, Holiday House and Franklin County Rehab, Hackett, Valine and McDonald Insurance, St. Albans Messenger, Enosburg Courier, St. Albans Recreation Dept., Caldwell Banker Choice Properties, Regal Art Press, JCImage, Lang Real Estate, Vermont Structural Building, Eaton’s Jewelry, Champlain Country Club, Kevin Smith Sport Connection, Handy Toyota, Handy Chevrolet, Directors and officers of Peoples Trust Co., Corporate Outfitters, Travelers Insurance, Rene J. Fournier Farm Equipment, St. Albans City offices, Parents Photography, Duffault Construction, Vt. State Rep., Kathleen Keenan, St. Albans City Council, and former owner of North Country Press, Don Hill.
Following the Mass, a luncheon was served in the Parish Center by the Bereavement Committee of the church.
Interment will be later this spring in the Cummings family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
On Friday afternoon, Father Houle conducted a prayer service with Stan’s family in the Heald Funeral Home.
BETTY M. NORRIS
SHELDON - A celebration of the life of Mrs. Betty M. Norris was held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Pastor Herman Benjamin, from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, officiated.
Sharing fond memories with those present were her son, Alan, and grandson, Michael Norris.
A large contingent of uniformed and plain clothed members of several area sheriff and police departments formed a Guard of Honor outside the funeral home.
Following these services, the funeral cortege was escorted to Sheldon by the Franklin County Sheriff Department members, the Burlington City Police, Vermont State Police and Williston Police Departments. They were guarded at each intersection by the St. Albans City Police Department.
Interment was in the Norris family lot in Sheldon Village Cemetery where Pastor Benjamin concluded with prayers of committal.
JULIA CORA NORRIS
ISLE LA MOTTE - Committal Services and Interment for Mrs. Julia Cora Norris, who died on Jan. 18, 2007, will take place Saturday, May 26, at 3 p.m. from the family lot in the Isle La Motte Village Cemetery, located on School Street in the Village of Isle La Motte. Pastor John C. Kehoe of the Alburgh Union Bible Church will officiate.

KARL JAMES ‘JIM’ GOMETZ
Image BAKERSFIELD - Karl James “Jim” Gometz, age 67, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday morning, May 23, 2007. Since February, he has been extremely committed to a healthier life style and had been very successful. His family will be forever grateful and proud of his commitment, but, unfortunately, his workout ended all too soon.
He was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Hartford, Conn., the son of the late Karl and Janice (Orr) Gometz.
Jim was a 1957 graduate of Simsbury High School in Simsbury, Conn. and a 1962 graduate of the University of Connecticut and member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Upon graduating Jim worked for Agway, formerly GLF, in Pennsylvania and New York transferring to Vermont in 1968 and after 23 years with Agway he established Mountain Valley Restoration, which he owned and operated with his son, Rick. In 1993 he began his employment with Champlain Valley Exposition (CVE) in Essex Junction. Jim was very dedicated to his work at the CVE as the Director of Operations. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren. He loved to travel with his wife, and could occasionally be found at a casino or scratching off a ticket or two, which led him to winning a fishing boat that has been greatly enjoyed by his whole family at Fairfield Pond. While there will not be a day he won’t be thought about, he will be greatly missed this year at Kane’s graduation, and Rick’s upcoming wedding.
Jim began his military career serving with the U.S. Army from 1962-63 and was a graduate of the Empire State Military Academy at West Point receiving his commission as 2nd Lieutenant serving several years in the New York Army National Guard being honorably discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 91 of Colchester, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and in 2004 became a member of the Vermont State Guard and was promoted to the rank of Full Bird Colonel last Wednesday
He is survived by his wife, Ginny (Davis) Gometz of Bakersfield. They were married May 4, 1963. He is also survived by his children, Nancy LaRose and her husband, Shawn of Waterville, Karen Ovitt and her husband, Brian of Bakersfield, Rick Gometz and his fiancée, Carol Gover of Knoxville, Tenn., and Rollin Miller and his wife, Jeeup of Bangkok, Thailand; his grandchildren, Kane and Keith LaRose, Katie and Kyle Ovitt, and Samantha Gover; his mother-in-law, Ruth Davis of Richford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Lenora Doty.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 27, 2007, at 1 p.m. at the Bakersfield Congregational Church with Rev. Sue Marie Baskette officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

HIGHGATE CENTER / ST. ALBANS - A Funeral Service was held Thursday, May 24, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the Champlain Valley Church of the Nazarene in St. Albans Town. Pastor Malcolm White officiated. Music was provided by Leader of Song, Mrs. Ginny White, accompanied by pianist, Mrs. Raye Mudgett.
A guard of honor was formed by a large number of faculty, students and staff from Missisquoi Valley Union High School led by Principal, Chaunce Benedict, and Director of Student Affairs, Eric Bushey.
The funeral procession was led into the church by Chelsea’s cousin and best friend, Amanda Hoague, who then placed a white rose on her casket. Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Amanda Hoague, Dr. Jeff Benay, Director of Indian Education Programs for Franklin County, cousin Katie Young, family associate Karen Baines, and Chelsea’s Science Teacher, Shannon Bundy.
Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Vermont Next Generation Commission, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Richford Junior - Senior High School, Fab-Tech, Highgate School District, Mary S. Babcock and Swanton Central Schools, Twin State Building Support, The Champlain Valley Church of the Nazarene, Swanton Village Fire Department, Abenaki Nation of Vermont, Citi Financial and M& C Transport.
The Rite of Committal and Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Swanton with Pastor White offering the prayers of committal. The bearers were Dakota Bessette, Adam Corwell, Roland Loiselle, Chris Murray, Miranda Bessette, Larry Garrow and Roger Laplant.
Following The Prayers of Committal a luncheon reception was held for family and friends in the church fellowship hall hosted by the parish family.
A sincere thank you goes out to Mr. Raymond (Rett) Heald and Mr. Lucien Hayes from The Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans City for their very professional assistance in the direction of Chelsea’s funeral service.
DONALD J. RITCHIE
Image ST. ALBANS - Donald J. Ritchie, 90, a longtime area resident, passed away Wednesday evening, March 28, 2007, at the Haven Health Care Facility. He was born in Burlington, Vt. on March 23, 1917, the son of the late Frank and Catherine (O’Connor) Ritchie.
Don served his country during World War II, entering the U.S. Army, Company A, 51st Armored Infantry on Feb. 19, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 17, 1945. He received the European Africa Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with Five Service Stars. He owned and operated Don’s Mobile Home Service. Don was a life member of Howard Plant Post 782, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Post 91, American Legion in Colchester.
Survivors include his three daughters, Carol Yelle and her husband, Gerry of Wilmington, N.C., Donna Poquette and her husband, Perry of Georgia, Vt. and Phyllis Eaborn of South Ryegate, Vt.; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by a grandson, Perrydean Poquette II on March 22, 1994; three brothers; and three sisters.
A graveside funeral service with full military honors will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the family lot in Hope Cemetery on Route 104A in Georgia. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will officiate. A luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. at the V.F.W. Hall at 176 South Winooski Ave. in Burlington.
Assisting Donald’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
ALFRED ‘AL’ JAMES GREENIA
Image Alfred “Al” James Greenia, 75, died at his residence on June 15, 2007, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Highgate Center, Vt., to the late Peter Napoleon and Edith Martel Greenia. Al was in the US Army from 1949 until his retirement at Ft. Benning in 1969. He served in Vietnam (67-68) with Co. 4th Bn. (M) 23rd Inf. (Tomahawks) receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
Mr. Greenia moved with his family to Albany from Morrison, Tenn. in 1984. He had been employed with St. Teresa’s Church and school for 14 years and had been self-employed in a general repair and construction business since his move to Albany. Al was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 2785.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jean Tice Greenia; children, Debra (Donnie) Ward of Opelika, Ala., Jennifer Ann Greenia of Albany, Ga., Jason McConnell of Opelika, Ala., Greg Greenia of Amite, La., Patrick Greenia of Tallahasee, Fla., Judi McConnell (Jean-Paul) Famin of Verdun sur Garonne, France, Jennifer McConnell Sanavitis (Mike) of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christopher McConnell of Canton, Ill., Jackson McConnell of Opelika, Ala., Max Famin of Verdun sur Garonne, France and Graham Sanavitis of Naples, Fla.
He is also survived by a sister, Gloria Greenia Gardner of Mineville, N.Y.; three brothers, Frederick (Marianne) Greenia of Highgate Center, Vt., Earl (Ellie) Greenia of St. Albans, Vt. and Robert Greenia of Agawam, Mass. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially his fellow bingo players. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zara Bailey Greenia; daughter, Susan Greenia; sisters, Marion Greenia LaPan, Mable Greenia Barr, Viola Greenia Herlem, Barbara Greenia Peretta; and a brother, Verle Greenia.
Funeral services for Alfred J. Greenia will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Mathews Funeral Home Chapel, 3206 Gillionville Road, Albany, Ga. The Rev. Jerry Willis, pastor of Pointe North Baptist Church, will officiate. Following the chapel services, a military service will be held at the rostrum of Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Ga. Burial will be at the Andersonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established in his name at the Albany Community Hospice, 2332 Lakepark Drive, Albany, Ga. 31707.

SR. JOSEPH ALEXINA LABRIE, D.H.S.
Sr. Joseph Alexina Labrie, DHS, 103, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Holy Spirit Provincial House where she has been in residence since 1985. Sr. Joseph was born Marie Louise Rose de Lima Labrie on July 12, 1903, in Piopolis, P.Q. Canada, daughter of the late Pierre and Alexina (Brault) Labrie.
In 1925, Sr. Joseph entered religious life and made her religious profession on Aug. 23, 1928, at the Motherhouse in St. Brieuc, France. She did some nursing in France, having served in Quimper and Le Légué. In 1934, upon her return to the United States, Sr. Joseph did some nursing at the Provincial House in Putnam. From 1939 on, she performed various domestic duties at St. Anne, Hartford, Conn.; St. Joseph Guest House, New Haven, Conn.; Villa St. Joseph, Putnam, Conn.; the Episcopal Residence in Norwich and she did arts and crafts at the Provincial House until her retirement in 1985.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Cécile Brier and Albina Bernier, both of Waterbury, and Claire Pelkey of St. Albans, Vt., as well as one brother, Steve Labrie of Franklin, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Calling hours at the Provincial House Chapel will be on Tuesday, June 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. in the Holy Spirit Provincial House Chapel followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Retirement Fund, 72 Church St., Putnam, Conn. 06260.

A graveside funeral service for June Sylvia Murano, who passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2007, was held on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. at family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church, officiating.
In attendance was representation from S.R. Smith Reality, Northwestern Medical Center, Champlain Country Club, Bakersfield Country Club and Grice Brook neighbors.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, interment took place in Murano family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Assisting June’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
