FRANCIS J. LEWIS, SR.
ST. ALBANS - Mr. Francis J. Lewis Sr., age 59, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, in the Haven Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Richford, son of the late Ladd and Doris (Sanborn) Lewis.
He worked for many years with Vermont Heat and Ventilating as a sheet metal fabricator. Francis was also a member of the Swanton Village Fire Department, the Son of the American Legion Squadron 1, the Sons of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Squadron 758, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1090, and BPOE Lodge 1566.
Francis is survived by his three children, Francis J. "Skip" Lewis Jr., Tammy Lewis and Brent Clapper; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his brothers and sisters, Fred Lewis and his wife, Annette of Pennacook, N.H., Diane Pilon of Fairfax, John Lewis and his fiancé, Sandra Kingman of Middlebury, Barbara Emch and her husband, Crow of Sheldon, Judith Mayo and her husband, Harold of Champlain, N.Y., and Donna Gervais and her husband, Marcel of Swanton; an uncle and aunt, Ernest and Rita Sanborn; several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends Brian and Tammy Levick; and all those that he enjoyed socializing with. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother-in-law, Arthur Pilon.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening. Interment will be in the Lewis family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

ORVILLE W. BLODGETT, JR.
RICHFORD - Orville W. Blodgett Jr., 79, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 4, 2006, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans following a long illness.
He was born in Richford on Feb. 7, 1927, the son of the late Orville and Mae (Ariel) Blodgett.
Orville had been a resident of Richford most of his life. He attended schools in Richford and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a Ward Master at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Colorado. Following his honorable discharge Orville met the love of his life, Elizabeth Mercy; they were married on Aug. 6, 1955. He worked as a cattle dealer and construction worker and retired from A.L. St. Onge Construction in the late 1990s. He was a former member of the Richford American Legion Post 12 of Richford. He enjoyed going to lawn sales and playing lottery tickets.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Mercy) Blodgett; a son, James Blodgett of Richford; three daughters and their husbands, Deborah & Roger Willey of Lowell, Jodie & Michael Gagne of Swanton, and Joanne & Cedric Lanphear of Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Ben Willey and his wife, Keri, Amanda Willey, Joshua Lanphear and his fiancé, Jenny Gaudette, Katie & Michelle Gagne, Elisa, Emily & Ashley Blodgett; three great-grandchildren, Brenna, Grace & Amos Orville; a brother and his wife, Robert & Pauline Blodgett of Dannemora, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Beulah Richardson of McCormick, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his special friends & neighbors on Harlem Street. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry Blodgett.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, Aug. 9, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Isidore’s Cemetery in Montgomery Center.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford.

PEARL R. BESSETTE GIBSON
ST. ALBANS - Pearl R. Bessette Gibson, 91, a life long area resident, passed away late Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Brownway Residence in Enosburg.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced in Tuesday’s edition of the St. Albans Messenger by the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
EVELYN E. ‘PAT’ CIOFFI
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Evelyn E. “Pat” Cioffi, age 89, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2006, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Williston, May 3, 1917, daughter of the late George and Stella (Fortune) Smail.
Pat, as she was fondly known, was employed as a cashier for the A & P Tea Company on Lake Street until the store closed and then was employed at Union Carbide Consumer Products for a brief period. Pat enjoyed her home, camp at the lake and cooking, especially for her grandchildren.
Sept. 22, 1935, Pat married James S. Cioffi, who became the Fire Chief for St. Albans. Chief Cioffi died Sept. 3, 2002, following almost 67 years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Hugh Bursey of Apache Jct., Ariz.; her daughter-in-law, Cecile Cioffi of St. Albans; six grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Sue Cioffi, Matthew and Marie Cioffi, Luke and Michelle Cioffi, John and Trudy, Jeffrey Bursey and Robin Bursey; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Pat was predeceased by her son, James V. Cioffi on Dec. 24, 2002; her sister, Gladys Picard; and brother, George Melvin Smail.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Herman Benjamin, from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the Cioffi family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

DOUGLAS L. CLOKEY
MONTGOMERY - Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at the Richford 1st Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating.
Organist was Rod Sanborn. Soloist and guitarist were Lisa & Ken Greco.
The Twenty Third Psalm, paraphrased by Pastor Lyle Willey, was read by Doug’s niece, Erika (Bryce) Luneau. A special song was sung by Doug’s granddaughters, Keishya & Kalisha Brooks. Many family and friends shared memories and stories.
Interment followed in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls with Pastor Lyle offering prayers of committal and Doug’s niece, Ellie Robitaille, read the Indian Prayer.
Active urn bearers were Doug’s oldest nephew, Steven Clokey, and Godson, Chad Larivee. Honorary bearers were nephews, Joseph Ladue Jr., Shawn Ladue, Jason Bryce, Jeffrey Clokey, Brent Luneau and Paul Robitaille.
Spears Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
CHARLOTTE M. MAHONEY
RUTLAND - Charlotte M. Mahoney, 81 of Nichols Street died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, in the Haven Health Center of Rutland following a long illness.
Charlotte was born June 13, 1925, in Sheldon, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary McAllister Bellevue. She graduated from Holy Angels School of St. Albans and was a long time member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She held a tender spot in her heart for her brother, Durward, who survives her.
Besides her brother Durward Bellevue of Grand Isle, she leaves her two nephews, Mark Bellview of Milton and Allen Bellview and his wife, Christie of New Britain, Conn.; and three great nieces, Chelsea, Emma and Maggie Mae Bellview.
Charlotte’s family wishes to thank the staff of Haven Health Center of Rutland for the kind and compassionate care extended to Charlotte during the time she spent with them in Rutland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton with Father John Feltz as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Albans.

Funeral services for William F. “Babe” Dashno, who passed away on July 30, 2006, were held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Mr. Duane E. Langlois, Deacon of Holy Angels Catholic Church officiating. Memories were shared by Valerie Chagnon.
In attendance was representation from the Alburgh RV Resort, Andy Leduc Construction, Ed White Auto Sales and Lower Newton Road neighbors.
Prayers of Committal and interment will take place today, Aug. 4, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

BARBARA A. (LEWIS) SOUCY
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Barbara A. (Lewis) Soucy, 74, of 134 Cartier St, died July 30, 2006, at Catholic Medical Center.
She was born in St. Albans, Vt. on April 5, 1932, the daughter of Arnold and Irene Lewis and had been a Manchester resident for most of her life. She was a 30-year cancer survivor.
In her life, family members include three sons, William Clack of Alabama, Thomas Clack and Stephen Clack, both of Manchester; a daughter, Lynda Dupre of Manchester; three grandchildren, Tiffany Veary, Travis Clack and Marah Clack; one great-grandchild, Hayden Veary; a brother, James Lewis of Vermont; two sisters, Gloria Hayden and Wanda Guyette, both of Vermont; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Callie Rousseau.
Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester, N.H. on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning in the funeral home at 10 with committal service to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.

EVELYN E. ‘PAT’ CIOFFI

DOUGLAS LEE CLOKEY
MONTGOMERY - Douglas Lee Clokey, age 62, husband of Carol (Bryce) Clokey, passed away Monday evening, July 31, 2006, at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born Sept. 27, 1943, in Richford, the son of Hazel (Sylvester) Clokey and the late Joseph E. Clokey.
Doug was a life long resident of Montgomery and was a member of the Montgomery Fire Department and the Development Review Board. He was employed at General Electric for over 20 years and for the last 15 years worked in outside facilities maintenance and drove truck for Ben & Jerry’s in St. Albans. He enjoyed mowing lawns, plowing snow and cutting wood.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol (Bryce) Clokey of Montgomery, they were married on Dec. 5, 1964; his mother, Hazel Clokey of Montgomery; his daughters, Stacy Maynard, her husband Willie, and their son Caleb of Bakersfield, Pamela Brooks, her husband Eric, and their children, Keishya, Kalisha, Eric II, Makenna and Katie Brooks of Randallstown, Md.; mother-in-law, Jean Bryce of East Fairfield; sisters and brother-in-law, Alberta Clokey of Fairfax, Judy Bryce of East Fairfield, Marcia Ladue and her husband, Joseph of Swanton, and John Bryce and his wife, Jean of Enosburg; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Clokey; brother, Roger Clokey; granddaughter, Karissa Brooks; father-in-law, Robert Bryce; and nephew, Glenn Clokey.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, Aug. 3, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Richford 1st Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
Visiting hours will be held this evening (Wednesday) from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

SANDRA L. BUSHEY
FAIRFAX - Sandra L. Bushey, 59, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, 2006, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care following heart surgery.
Sandra was born on Oct. 25, 1946, in Burlington, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Sweeney) Jones.
On May 23, 1981, Sandra married Wilfred “Willy” Bushey who predeceased her on Jan. 17, 2003.
She had worked many years for Sedeco at UVM, as Supervisor of Food Services. She will be remembered as an avid bingo player.
Sandra lived on School Street in Fairfax for over 25 years. She loved her children and grandchildren. They meant the world to her.
She is survived by her children, Molly Bigelow, John Bigelow and his wife, Eileen, and Carrie Bushey, all of Fairfax; by her grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Bigelow and Marshall Bushey; her brothers, Walter Jones and
Garry Jones; her sisters, Mable Kline and Shirley Lumbra; and by several nieces and nephews, including Tanya Bushey and her daughter April, April Craig and her husband, Donald and their daughter Breyona.
In addition to her husband Willy, Sandra was predeceased by her son, Marshall Bigelow; brothers and sisters, Betty Lawyer, Barbara Jones, Frank Jones Jr., Joyce Pecor and Robert Jones Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday evening, Aug. 4, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

HIGHGATE SPRINGS / SWANTON - Funeral Services were held Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, 2006, at 7 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. The Reverend Reid D. Farrell Rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church officiated.
Among the large delegations in attendance were representatives from the Northwestern Medical Center and Auxiliary, Flowers By Debbie, Franklin County Home Health Agency, The Handy Group, The Paquin Group, Swanton Mobile Mart, Bev’s Shear Expectation, Carroll Concrete, The Heald Funeral Home, McDonald’s, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Ace Hardware, Vermont Army National Guard, Abenaki Nation of Vermont led by Chief April St. Francis-Merrill, Swanton, Highgate and St. Albans Town Offices, Dexter Products, Swanton Village and Highgate Volunteer Fire Departments and Auxiliaries, Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans, and The Parts Store.
At Carlton’s request a private interment will take place later at the convenience of the family.
Following the services a Bereavement Luncheon was served for family and friends at the Abenaki Tribal Headquarters hosted by Chief April St. Francis-Merrill.
