PHYLLIS C. ROBARGE
RICHFORD - Phyllis C. Robarge, age 78, widow of Sidney Robarge, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 11, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

She was born May 6, 1928, in Fairfield, Vt., the daughter of the late Dell and Lela (Desrosia) Montgomery.

Phyllis was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She enjoyed barbering, visiting with her customers, walking, golfing, cooking, being with her family and going on trips with her special friend Sandy Bellrose. She was a member of the Richford 1st Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 12 of Richford and was a former member of the Richford Country Club.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Steven & Sharon Robarge of Colchester, Keith & Cathy Robarge, and Michael & Sue Robarge all of Richford; her grandchildren, Jennifer Desautels and her husband, Joel, Cristy Robarge, Nathan & Coty Robarge, Scott Blaney and his wife, Andrea, Adam Blaney and his wife, Amanda, and Lisa Robarge-LaBounty and her husband, David; five great-grandchildren, Danielle & D.J. LaBounty, Courtney, Mitchell & Cyrus Blaney; her sisters, Ruth Randall of Cambridge, Janet Wells and her husband, Kenneth of Sheldon, Betty Neveau and her friend, Wayne Kennedy of Enosburg, and Jackie McDonald and her husband, Robert of Tilton, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Robarge on Feb. 26, 1994; her brothers, Oakley, Wayne, her twin Philip, Wendell, Alton, Merriman, Frederick & Robert Montgomery; and her sisters, Beatha & Bernice Montgomery, and Vera Emch.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Richford 1st Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating; organist was Rod Sanborn. Interment followed in the Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Nathan & Coty Robarge, Cristy Robarge, Joel Desautels, and Scott & Adam Blaney.

Visiting hours were held Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.

CHARLES E. ‘CHARLIE’ LEVICK, SR.
SWANTON - Charles E. “Charlie” Levick Sr., age 64, a longtime resident of the Highgate Road, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 13, 2006, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born at home in Swanton on June 29, 1942, he was the son of Melvin Charles and Lucille Frances (Root) Levick. He graduated from Highgate High School in 1960 and on April 4, 1964, was married to the former Alice Magnant, who survives him.

From 1963 until 1965 Charlie was associated with the former Fonda Group and for 15 years with the H.P. Hood Company. He later worked nine years for Ben and Jerry’s Inc. and more recently retired in 2005 from Pizzagali Properties.

Charlie faithfully served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts and received his Honorable Discharge on May 7, 1962. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778, Swanton and was instrumental in the renovation and building addition that was just recently completed. He also belonged to the American Legion, Post 42 in Enosburg Falls.

He was an active member of several Masonic bodies and was the youngest individual to ever serve as Master of Seventy-Six Lodge, No. 14, F. &A.M. Swanton. He also participated in the Sword of Bunker Hill, Order 115 of Fairfax, The Cairo Shriners and The Cairo North Mini Racers.

He will be remembered for his love of hunting and ice fishing as well as working in the Lodge kitchen preparing for Ladies of the Table yearly meal.

In addition to his wife Alice of 42 years, he leaves his mother, Mrs. Lucille Levick of Swanton; his son, Charles Levick Jr., wife Melissa and their daughter, Marah, all of Highgate Springs; two daughters, Candace Levick and her children Dillon and Ciarra, all of Swanton, and Pamela Jean Levick, also of Swanton; one brother, Douglas Levick; and two sisters, Charlotte Emch and husband, Donald and Sheila King, all of Windsor Locks, Conn.; four brothers-in-law, Richard Magnant and his wife, Annette of Randolph, Howard Magnant and wife, Diane of New Hampshire, Raymond Magnant and wife, Donna of Enosburg and Charles Magnant of Franklin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Melvin Charles Levick; a brother, Roger Levick; brother-in-law, Paul King; and his mother and father-in-law, Ethel and Ralph Magnant.

The Levick family wishes to give very special thanks to Tracy Pilbin R.N., Nicki Ward, Karleen Magnant, Dick and Lorraine Rollo and Skip and Chris Goodman for all the love, care and support shown to Charlie and his family during these past difficult weeks.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Levick family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, Aug. 16, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m. Members of Seventy-Six Lodge, No. 14, F&A.M. will conduct their Masonic Ritualistic Service at 8 p.m.

JOSEPH MAYO
ST. ALBANS - Mr. Joseph Mayo, age 89, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, just a few days short of his 90th birthday. Joe was born in Sygan, Penn., Aug. 21, 1916, son of the late Italian immigrants, Rosario and Maria (Spano) Maio.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in both the United Stats and the European Theatre. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758 and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1.

Joe was a professional musician all of his life, mostly playing the accordion. He managed the Western Aces Musical Group, which later became better known as “Joe Mayo and His Western Ramblers,” in both New York and Vermont. He directed many popular musical shows on both radio and television, all over the United States.

Joe was married to Rita Brien on Oct. 9, 1939.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mona Mayo of Scotia, N.Y.; nephew, James Mayo of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and niece, Robin Mazzone of Glenville, N.Y.; also several nieces and nephews from his wife’s family. Besides his parents, Rosario and Mary, he was predeceased by his wife Rita; two brothers, Frank Mayo, formerly of Boston, Mass. and James Mayo, formerly of Scotia, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service time. Interment will follow in the Mayo family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

CHARLES ERWIN LEVICK, SR.
SWANTON - Charles Erwin Levick Sr., age 64, husband of Alice (Magnant) Levick, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 13, 2006, in his Highgate Road home.

Funeral Arrangements are incomplete but will be announced in Tuesday’s edition of The St. Albans Messenger.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton 05488.

MARY ELIZABETH PETERSON
SHELDON - Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in St. Albans with Rev. James Ballard officiating, the Verger was Colin Christie.

Words of remembrance were said by co-worker and good friend Patricia Guilmette. Readers were Mary’s brother, Marty Adams and sister-in-law, Joan Matanle. Organist and Soloist was Mary Jo Gillilan.

Pallbearers were Mary’s grandsons, Brad Bates, Travis Greenwood, Ben Peters, Matt and Michael Williams.

Following the Mass, a gathering prepared by the church was held in St. Luke’s Parish Hall. An honor guard of Mary’s co-workers at Haven Health Care was formed at the church for the processional and recessional.

Interment will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hinsdale, N.H.

Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls assisted the family with arrangements.

NANCY K. PORWITZKY
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Nancy Kay Porwitzky, age 68, died Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2006, at her home, with her loving husband at her bedside, following an extended illness. Nancy was born in St. Albans, Oct. 29, 1937, daughter of the late Thomas and Gladys (Peters) Ouellet.

She graduated from Bellows Free Academy, class of 1955, and was a sales clerk at Priors Drug Store until she was married. July 7, 1956, she married Russell Porwitzky in Holy Angels Church. Due to Russell’s Air-Force Career, they were located in several areas around the United States, returning to St. Albans in 1973. At that time Nancy resumed her affiliation with Holy Angels Church and worked at the bingo games. Eventually, she became the chairperson of the bingo committee, recently stepping down because of health, after over 30 years of service. Nancy was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a former member of the Holy Angels Mothers Club. She enjoyed bingo, all kinds of card games, knitting, crocheting and loved a good story. Nancy enjoyed telephone conversations regularly with friends and shared her love with everyone.

Nancy was a loving caregiver to her parents, Thomas, who died June 3, 1994, Gladys, who died Oct. 12, 1994, and to her aunt Marion Kelley, until her death Aug. 4, 1996.

Her survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Russell; her sons and their wives, Thomas and Wendy Porwitzky of St. Albans, Michael and Melanie Porwitzky of Grand Isle; her pride and joy, grandson Andrew Porwitzky and his fiancé, Elizabeth Rowell of Ann Arbor, Mich. Also, Nancy leaves her aunt Lucille Ercolono of Cresco, Pa. and uncles Father Maurice Ouellet, S.S.E. of Selma, Ala. and John Ouellet of St. Albans Bay. She was predeceased by her aunts, Sister Martha Ouellet, C.S.C., Marion Kelley, Jeannette LeCompte, Loretta Ehrlich; and her uncle, Paul Ouellet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Porwitzky/Ouellet family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider masses or memorials to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. An online condolence book has been established for Nancy’s family at the Brady & Levesque Web site: www.bnlfh.com.

SYLVIA FLORENCE OLDS
SWANTON VILLAGE - Mrs. Sylvia Florence Olds, age 82, a longtime First Street resident, died late Wednesday evening, Aug. 9, 2006, at the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Naughton, England on Feb. 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence Squirrell. She received all of her education in England and on Aug. 13, 1945, was married to Kennison Melvin Olds, who survives her.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves a daughter, Sandi J. Greenia of Mooers, N.Y.; one sister, Doris Bloomfield of Branford, England; a brother, David Squirrell and his wife, Jean of Ipswich, England; two sisters-in-law, Dale LaBombard and her husband, Bird of Swanton and Beverly Waterhouse and her husband, Doug of Hollywood, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews and many longtime friends.

Sylvia was predeceased by a sister, Jean; two brothers, Raymond and Leslie; and her son-in-law, Morton H. Greenia.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at 10 a.m. from the Olds family lot in the Highgate Center Cemetery, located on Vermont Route 78 in the village of Highgate Center. The Reverend Donavee Copenhaver pastor of the Missisquoi River Charge of the United Methodist Church will officiate. At Sylvia’s request there will be no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Haven Health Care Center, 596 Sheldon Road, St. Albans 05478.

PEARL R. BESSETTE GIBSON
Funeral services for Pearl R. Bessette Gibson, who passed away on Aug. 6, 2006, were held on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Assisting at the Altar was Deacon Jack Rixon. Eucharistic ministers were John Manahan and Gabriel Gagne.

The Funeral Pall was placed on Pearl’s Casket by her nephew, Robert Renaudette and niece, Betty Renaudette. The crucifix was placed her grand niece, Linda Vandevord. The Holy Scriptures were proclaimed by her niece, Sandra Renaudette. Music was provided by organist and vocalist, Freda Ploof.

A Guard of Honor was present from the Ladies of Ste. Anne. The Prayer for the deceased members of the Ladies of Ste. Anne was led by Rosalie Jacques.

In attendance was representation from Rachel’s Styling Studio and St. Mary’s Parish.

Casket bearers were Howard G. Heald, Winslow R. Heald, Lucien J. Hayes, Maurice S. Lumbra and Stanley P. Dukas.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Jean Paul Laplante, interment took place in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate. Father Laroche held the Vigil for the Deceased with Pearl’s family and friends on Tuesday evening.

Assisting Pearl’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.

KATHRYN AUDREY PAQUETTE
ALBURGH CENTER - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church. The principle celebrant was Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE. Homilist was Kathryn’s cousin, The Reverend Monsignor Wendell H. Searles. Also concelebrating was Father Marcel R. Rainville, SSE from the Office of Campus Ministry at St. Michael’s College. Assisting was The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette, deacon assigned to the Lake Champlain Islands Parishes. Annette and Norman Pellerin served as Ministers of the Altar.

A large guard of honor was formed by members of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 and Auxiliary. The White Funeral Pall was draped over Kathryn’s casket by her daughter, Sharon Bockus and husband, Dan and son, Richard Paquette and his wife, Bonnie. Richard and Sharon also placed the Crucifix. Scripture readings from both The Old and New Testament were proclaimed by niece and nephew, Kim and John Chesarek. Brothers, Leonard, Vernon and Allyn James presented The Offertory Gifts. Following communion Father Boucher shared Special Words of Remembrance.

Among the many delegations in attendance were representatives from the Vermont House of Representatives, Visiting Nurse Association, Vermont Precision Tools, Vermont Gage, Franklin County Industrial Development Corporation, The United Way, Franklin County Business and Professional Women, Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Saint Albans Chamber of Commerce, Alburgh, Highgate and North Hero Village and Town Offices, Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, United States Department of Homeland Security, Northwestern Medical Center, Wood & Kidder, Inc., Office of Attorney George Spear, Centabar Lawn Care, Champlain Chevrolet, Grand Isle County Superior, District and Probate Court, Vermont Department of Economic Services, IBM, Hero’s Welcome, Chittenden Bank, Swanton Chamber of Commerce and St. Amadeus and Nativity Parish Communities.

Interment followed in the Paquette family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery with Monsignor Searles assisted by Fathers Boucher, Rainville and Deacon Vincelette reading the committal prayers.

The bearers were grandson, Robbie Calderwood; and nephews, Lenny, Jimmy, Rodney, Alton James and Bernard Holbrook.

Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served in the St. Amadeus Parish Center hosted by Maurice Gauthier.

During the Wednesday evening visitation, members of the Alburgh American Legion Auxiliary conducted a prayer service led by acting president, Georgia Morey and Chaplain, Betty Lockerby.

GAIL E. SIMONS
MILTON - Gail E. Simons, 53, died at her home Tuesday evening, Aug. 8, 2006, surrounded by her children Dani, Mike and her partner of 36 years, Rene Cloutier, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gail was born in Burlington, Vt. on May 30, 1953, the daughter of Wilson and Sally (Peterson) Simons. She attended South Burlington Schools and was employed at Hannafords for the past 35 years.

She will be remembered for her devotion to Milton Kids. Her passion was to help any way that she could including school events, Spirit Night, Project graduation and cheering her children on at sports events. Her baked goods were always exceptional, and every Milton kid looked forward to them.

In addition to Rene, Gail is survived by their son, Michael Alan Cloutier-Simons, and their daughter, Danielle Lee Cloutier-Simons, both of Milton; by her sisters, Donna Burritt and her husband, Ronni of Huntington, Vt., Debbie Carter and her husband, Ronnie of Winter Springs, Fla., and Karen Cabe and her husband, Doug of Palmetto, Fla. She is also survived by her nephews, Tucker and Ryan Burritt; and nieces, Dana and Melissa Carter.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
