HOWARD L. REIRDEN
SWANTON Howard L. Reirden, 93, died June 30, 2001, at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
He was born Dec. 11, 1907, at Masonville, Quebec, the son of Walter J. Rierden and Maude (Soule) Reirden of Richford, Vt.
He graduated from Richford High School in 1928. He was employed at the Central Vermont Railroad in St. Albans for 18 years and the Swanton Lumber Company for 27 years.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton, Seventy-Six Lodge No. 14, F&AM, Central Vermont Veterans Association and The Grandmas and Grandpas Choral Group.
In 1937 he married Alfa (Brown) Rierden who died in 1998. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David W. Reirden and Barbara M. Reirden, two grandchildren, Todd R. and Mrs. Kristi R. Donay of Deerfield, Ill. A grandson, Scott H. Reirden died in 1981. Other survivors include two sisters, Janet Reirden of Richford and Mrs. Vivian R. Cesana of East Glastonbury, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Elaine Reirden and Mrs. Marion Reirden, both of Richford; a nephew, several nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2001, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Marsha Hoecker, rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate. Private interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Missisquoi Valley Rescue, PO Box 22, Swanton, VT 05488. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home in Swanton, Vt.
INEZ M. SISCO
RICHFORD -- Inez M. Sisco, age 97, died Friday evening, July 13, 2001, at Verdelle Village ECF in St. Albans.
She was born in Mansonville, P.Q. April 22, 1904, the daughter of the late Fred & Victoria (Desroches) Sisco.
Inez had been a resident of Richford most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church. For many years she was employed by Dr. F.J. Lawlis in Richford.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her twin sister, Ida, a sister Fannie, and a brother Clarence Sisco.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 am. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Pastor Dick Walsh officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Sutton, P.Q.

MARION L. MYERS
ST. ALBANS -- Marion L. Myers peacefully entered her new home on July 11, 2001, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was first introduced to the world as Marion L. Norcross on May 22, 1942, by the late Otis and Lillian (Peters) Norcross. Marion was a unique individual who touched many lives as she went through her.
Marion lived in St. Albans for most of her younger years. She moved to Burlington for a short time where she was employed at The Burlington Child Center and R.J. Reynolds. Marion met some of her dearest friends and Patrick C. Myers, her husband of 32 years there. Pat & Marion made their home here in St. Albans in 1970 on New Street, but later made their permanent home on Russell Street where she deovted the early years of marriage to her husband and kids. She later went to work for IBM where she worked for 22 years until illness forced her to leave.
Marion enjoyed being in her flowers with the dirt ground into her hands and knees...Marion liked to be by the water and to see the gorgeous blue sky on a warm summer afternoon. She had great determination and a strong will...Marion made friends with everyone she touched.
Marion is survived by her husband Patrick Myers, a daughter Lisa and her husband Jim Corwell, and a son Mike Myers, all of St. Albans. Marion had two stepchildren, Billy Myers and his wife Donna and Mary & Calvin Harrison, both of Florida. Marion leaves behind two sisters, Eugenia & George Hubbard and Mildred Shepard. Two brothers, her twin Bill Norcross and his wife Althea, Kenneth and Gloria Norcross, as well as three in-laws, Kenneth & Jeannine Goodenough and Oscar Young; eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and all those special friends she has collected all her life.
Marion was predeceased by her brother Lawrence (Sonny) Norcross, two sisters, Rita Goodenough & Leona Young, and a brother-in-law, Raymond Shepard.
A special thanks goes out to all of you who made Marion's last few years as memorable and comfortable as possible. Thanks to all of you in Dr. Sander's office and all the ladies from Home Health. I am glad you were there...and so was she.
In memory of Marion the family would like to ask that any donations being made go to The American Cancer Society & Franklin County Home Health.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends are asked to bring memories of Marion and share them during the service. Arrangements are entrusted to her friends at Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
MARY PAQUETTE PIGEON
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Mary Paquette Pigeon, age 69, died Thursday morning, July 12, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care, with her loving family at her bedside, after a brief illness. Mary was born in St. Albans May 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Julius and Stella (Mercy) Paquette. She was employed by the first Holy Angels School Hot Lunch Program and among the initial employees when the St. Albans City School Hot Lunch Program was started. Her last employment was with the Abbey Catering Services for the schools. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. Mary and Reine were avid supporters of their grandchildren's activities, especially the St. Albans City Raiders Athletic and BFA Comet and Bobwhite Athletic programs.
Oct. 7, 1950 she married Reine Pigeon. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past October. Besides her husband, she is survived by her two children, Sue and her husband William Bronson, Richard and his wife Rett Pigeon, all of St. Albans; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Kyle Bronson, Elizabeth and Emily Pigeon; her sisters, Adeline Stahl of St. Albans, Barbara Pignona of Swanton, Cecile Gendron of Theodore, Ala., Joyce Gabree of St. Albans, a brother Roger and his wife Diane Paquette of Sheldon, sisters-in-law, Carol Paquette of Sheldon, Coleen Paquette of Georgia, Leona Pigeon of Winooski, Solange and her husband Real Begnoche of Burlington, several nieces, nephews and cousins, her very close friend and shopping buddy, Sally Longe of Georgia, also a very special niece, Linda LaChapelle of Bolton, Conn. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Mena Minor, Catherine Cook, Jeannette Violet, Shirley Burns, brothers, Aldred Paquette and Raymond Paquette, brothers-in-law, John-Paul Pigeon, Marcel Pigeon and Maurice Pigeon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Pigeon family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. CATHERINE JEAN DEWART WILLIAMS
CYNTHIANA, Ky. -- Catherine Jean Dewart Williams passed away June 11, 2001, at 2:10 p.m. at Edgemont Manor in Cynthiana, Ky.
Catherine was born Sept. 9, 1919, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Nina Hayden and Eugene Willard Dewart, formerly of 23 Rugg Street, St. Albans. She graduated from BFA, St. Albans in 1937.
Catherine spent several years in the U.S. Army, where she met her husband, Charles Williams of Cynthiana, Kent., who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her three siblings: Charlotte Dewart Strait, Elizabeth Dewart Reynolds, and Donald M. Dewart. She is survived by her son, Charles and his wife Annette of Paris, Kent. Also surviving her is a brother-in-law, Charles Strait of St. Albans, widower of her sister, Charlotte, and the following nieces and nephews: Margaret Strait and June Reynolds Leach of St. Albans; Chester Strait of Virginia Beach, Va., ; Nancy Reynolds Crepeau of Lebanon, N.H.; Denise Dewart Carnell of Slingerlands, N.Y.
In accordance with her wishes, there was no funeral. Her cremated remains were tossed in the Cynthiana River.
NANCIE C. (ROBINSON) PUNDY
ST. ALBANS/OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. -- Mrs. Nancie C. (Robinson) Pundy, age 57, died March 29, 2001, in Integrist Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla., after a lingering illness. She was born in St. Albans Feb. 25, 1944, daughter of Myrtle (Cross) Robinson and the late Ralph Robinson.
She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Class of 1962. She was a volunteer at Kerbs Memorial Hospital, later a nurse at the DeGoesbriand Hospital and in the Mary Fletcher Emergency Room. While in Franklin County she also was in nursing in the Hurlbut Nursing Home and Verdelle Village, ECF. In 1978 she moved to Oklahoma and worked at the Midwest City Hospital as a Clinical Pathologist and Registered Laboratory Technician. Nancie devoted her entire adult life to caring for the elderly.
Besides her mother Myrtle Robinson of St. Albans, she is survived by her sister Susan and her husband Robert Hartmann, and a brother Ralph (Chip) Robinson, all of Swanton, and Chip's girlfriend Patricia Bird of Fairfax, a special aunt Yvonne Cross of Florida and St. Albans, and a special uncle Arnold Pelkey of St. Albans, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in St. Albans and Oklahoma. She also leaves two special angels in Oklahoma, Jacqui and Lou, who were so good to her and her family. Her family wishes to express profound appreciation for everything they have done for Nancie. She also leaves her beloved cat "Max." She was predeceased by her father Ralph Robinson Sept. 20, 1994.
Nancie was a communicant of the Tinker Chapel at the Tinker Air Force Base. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 3, 2001, at the Tinker Chapel with her good friend and spiritual advisor (Major, USAF Catholic Chaplin) Father Tom Doyle, the celebrant.
A Mass in her memory will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, in St. Mary's Church, Fairfield Street, St. Albans, by Father Leonidas Laroche.
GRACE ANNA DIETZ
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Grace Anna Dietz, age 96, died Sunday evening, July 8, 2001, of pneumonia. Grace was born in New York City on Dec. 5, 1904, to Anna Bressler Dietz and Alfred Adam Dietz. She spent many years working for the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, eventually as the Copy Editor for one of their national circulation magazines. In the 1950's, when this company ceased publication of its magazines, Grace and all of the rest of the employees were left without any job or severance package. Undaunted, she almost immediately obtained employment at The New York Botanical Garden, where she completed her working years as the personal secretary to the Director.
Grace never married. She remained in the family home caring for her parents until the end of their lives. In 1989 at age 84, Grace moved from New York to Jeffersonville to reside with her nephew, William Sander and his family. Even with her ever worsening Alzheimer's Disease, Grace spent many happy years in Jeffersonville, where this supportive Village was very understanding and looked out for her as would an extended family. On June 1, 2000, when her Dementia became too severe, Grace moved to Copley Manor, which until very recent drastic staff cuts was an extremely safe, pleasant place to be.
Grace is survived by her nephew and his wife, William and Janet Sander of Jeffersonville, and their surviving children and spouses and grandchildren, who are David and Roselie Sander and their children, Sean and William of So. Burlington, and Lisa Sander Foley and Greg Foley and their children, Connor, Adain and Liam of Jeffersonville. Grace was predeceased by her parents, her only brother Aldred Edward Dietz, her only sister, Dorothy Sander, her only niece, Lesly Ann Sander, her only other nephew, A. Edward Dietz, Jr., and by her grand niece, Leslie Rachel Sander. Grace's family extend special thanks to the Emergency Room and I.C.U. staff at Copley Hospital for their competent and compassionate care and heroic efforts to save Grace's life when she was belatedly brought there just hours before her death.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Main Street, Fairfax. Funeral services will be at The Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville where Grace was a very active member, on Thursday, July 12, 2001, at 2 p .m. with Reverend Peggy Tooker officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings On Hudson, N.Y. on Friday, July 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. where Grace will join her parents, her brother, her sister, and her niece.
Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax, Vt.
EDWARD HILL PERRY
SWANTON -- A Funeral Eucharist for Edward Hill Perry who died June 29, 2001 was held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with the Reverend Marsha Hoecker as celebrant. Assisting on the altar was Linda Wirts. Organist was Robert Guerrina and Lectors were Clinton Erb and Kathy Perry.
The American Flag honoring the WWII Army veteran was presented to Hill's wife, Bunty, by Ed Royer representing the Veterans Organizations. The large delegation of military veterans in attendance then formed an honor guard outside the church through which the family passed during the recessional.
Among those in the very large attendance were representatives of The Domestic Engineers Home Demonstration Group, The Reverend Dennis E. Hayward, Rector, and The Reverend Canon Stanley H. Irving, retired Rector, and many parishioners of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in St. Albans, Holiday House Nursing Facility, The Owl Club, Butler Island Campers, St. Albans Garden Club, The Autonoe club, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Total Home Center, George S. Wood, Inc., The Burlington Fire Department, The Church of the Rock, and Holy Trinity Parishioners. Hill's family received friends after the service and a luncheon was served by members of Holy Trinity Church.
Interment was at 10 a.m. on Friday in the family lot in St. Paul's Church Cemetery in Philipsburg, Quebec with The Reverend Wallace Sparling offering Committal prayers. The Royal Canadian Legion presented the Canadian Flag under which Hill also served with the Canadian Black Watch, to Bunty at the committal service. Arrangements were by the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
GRAND CHIEF HOMER W. ST. FRANCIS
SWANTON/BERKSHIRE -- Grand Chief Homer W. St. Francis, 66, a lifelong resident of 44 Liberty Street, Swanton died early Saturday morning, July 7, 2001, at his camp on the Berkshire Center Road in Berkshire.
Chief St. Francis was born at home in Swanton Village, the home that he and his family still occupy today, the son of the late Nazaire and Florence (Hakey) St. Francis, Jr. He attended Saint Anne's Academy and Swanton High School and on Dec. 15, 1962, married the former Patricia "Patsy" Partlow who survives him.
Chief St. Francis devoted his life to the people of Abenaki descent and their families. He became the Grand Chief of the Sovereign Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi St. Francis-Sokoki Band in 1975. He traveled many miles, worked countless hours, met with many political groups and gave many interviews and speeches to gain recognition and support for his people.
Besides his work with the Abenaki Nation he had a great love for his own family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his camp in Berkshire where he spent many hours with a pick and shovel developing the land that he had such a great respect for and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Chief St. Francis faithfully served his country, first in the Vermont Army National Guard and then in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the Marines he enlisted in the United States Navy and was hand-picked to serve in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Honor Guard.
In his earlier years he worked for several major construction companies.
In addition to his wife Patsy of Swanton, Chief St. Francis leaves two daughters, Doris St. Francis and her companion Richard Alarie of South Hero, and Acting Chief April Rushlow and her husband John of Swanton; three sons, Homer St. Francis II, and Harold "Charlie" St. Francis, both of Swanton, and David St. Francis and his fiancee Wendy Savage of Swanton; one sister, Mrs. Florabell Brow of Swanton; seven grandchildren, Casey Fraties, Rene, Harold II, Wade, Ryan and Cole St. Francis and Jesse Forsyth, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Four sisters, Dorothy Waterman, Beatrice Phillips, Barbara Barrett and Doris St. Francis, and five brothers, Harold, John, Hubert, Donald and Kenneth St. Francis predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Charles H. Ranges, SSE, pastor of Holy Family Parish in Essex Jct. will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
