STEPHEN W. "BUGABOO" BILLADO

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Stephen W. "Bugaboo" Billado, age 28, died Friday morning, July 20, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Stephen was born in St. Albans May 15, 1973, the son of Douglas & Ruth (Guthery) Billado.

Stephen was a resident of Highgate for the past four years and was a former resident of Richford whre he was a 1991 graduate of Richford High School. While in high school he worked on the Dale Tessier Farm. He attended VTC in Randolph and then was employed at Barrette's in Swanton and was currently employed at Paquin's in St. Albans where he loved his work and was loved by all his co-workers for his sense of humor. He was a former member of the Swanton Fire Dept., a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Stephen loved hunting, fishing and camping. Most of all Stephen cherished the time he spent with his daughter and wife. He will be missed and loved by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife Anna-Maria (Delorme) Billado; his daughter Alexis Billado, both of Highgate Center; his parents, Douglas & Ruth (Guthery) Billado of Richford; two sisters and their husbands, Christine & Mark Carpenter and their children, Levi & Bradley of Richford, and Karen & Michael Paul of Richford; maternal grandfather Delmar Guthery of Ava, Mo.; mother-in-law, Bonnie Stowe and Dennis Demar of Franklin; father-in-law and his wife Robert & Terry Delorme of Franklin; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Jessie (Stancil) Guthery; his paternal grandparents, Carroll & Eleanor (Lackey) Billado.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 23, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Franklin United Church with Pastor Mike Long officiating. Interment was in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls. Bearers were Dan Clark, Eric Favreau, Barry Stowe, Dennis Tessier, Glenn St. Pierre and Tim Leadbeater.

Visiting hours were held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls.

SARAH A. (LaSHOMB) DREW

CAMBRIDGE -- Sarah Alice (LaShomb) Drew, age 68, of Cambridge passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 24, 2001, with her husband by her side. She was born May 20, 1933 in Winthrop, N.Y., daughter of the late Harlow and Clara (Parker) LaShomb. She married Clifford Joseph Rock on Oct. 11, 1950 in Peru, N.Y. He predeceased her May 5, 1981. She was a home care provider for Mrs. Gibson of Peru, N.Y. for several years. She enjoyed crocheting for her family over the years until her arthritis became too debilitating. Sarah lived for her family as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. On March 20, 1993, she married Mark Drew in the Cambridge United Church. During her last years of her illness Sarah loved watching the flowers bloom from her bed at her home in Cambridge and took great delight in observing the many birds that visited her colorful gardens throughout the year. She especially enjoyed the special back porch visits of her favorite yellow cat and the welcomed company of her dog "Bedor." Sarah will be greatly missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

She is survived by her husband Mark B. Drew of Cambridge; six sons, Clifford Rock, Jr. and his wife Joan of Schuyler Falls, N.Y., Gary Rock of Ausable Forks, N.Y., Russell Rock and Terri Knox of Cambridge, Raymond Rock and Lorraine Moore of Elkton, Md., Harold Rock and his wife Donna of Peru, N.Y., Thomas Rock and his wife Tina of Peru, N.Y.; three daughters, Pamela Wood and her husband Bart of Plattsburg, N.Y., Linda Podany and her husband Greg of Cameron Park, Calif., Cindy Rock of Plattsburg, N.Y.; two stepsons, Mark Drew and his wife Shelley of California, Matthew Drew and his wife Yulanda of California; three brothers, Sherwood LaShomb, Robert LaShomb, and Gerald LaShomb; a sister, Lillian Sawyer of Florida; 16 grandchildren, one great grandchild, four stepgrandchildren, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Harlow LaShomb, Jr.

Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home today, Thursday, July 26, 2001 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at The Cambridge United Church, Cambridge on Friday, July 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin of The United Church of Fairfax officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Dean Road Cemetery, Underhill. Memorial contributions in Sarah's memory may be made to Make A Wish Foundation of Vermont, 100 Dorset Street, So. Burlington, VT 05401.

Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax.

ROLAND P. LAVIOLETTE, SR.

FAIRFAX -- Roland P. Laviolette, Sr., age 66, loving husband of Joan (Blair) Laviolette passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He was born Sept. 10, 1934 in Three Rivers, Mass., son of the late Romuald and Eva (Deslaurier) Laviolette. He was employed as an area painting contractor over the years.

He is survived by his wife Joan Theresa (Blair) Laviolette of Fairfax; four sons, Roland Laviolette, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of East Fairfield, Gary Laviolette and his wife Debbie of Aurora, Colo., Joseph Laviolette and his wife Melanie of Highgate, Thomas Laviolette and his wife Crystal of Milton; a daughter, Barbara Stearns and her husband Dave of Orwell, Vt.; a sister, Irene Christianson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., 23 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Smith; two brothers, Ernest Laviolette and Edward Laviolette.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

FRANK EARL BOND

ATLANTIS, FLA./BARRE, VT. -- Frank Earl Bond, 85, known to friends and family as Earl, beloved husband of Mary (Cutts) Bond of Atlantis, Fla., and formerly a resident of Barre, Vt. passed away on Monday, July 23, 2001, at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1915 in Barre, Vt. and was the son of Harley and Grace (Stevens) Bond. He attended Barre City schools and in his early years worked at Bailey Brothers Auto Parts as a salesman. On Aug. 31, 1935 he married Mary Lillian Cutts. They made their home in Barre for 45 years. He served in the United States Army from 1944 - 1945. Upon his return to Barre, he worked for Bailey Brothers in Barre and West Lebanon, N.H. until 1955 when he began his own business. On March 1, 1956, with his wife Mary, he opened the first Bond Auto Parts store on Buzzell Place inBarre. Over the next 24 years, the business expanded to include eight stores in Vermont and New Hampshire. In 1980 Mary and Earl retired and moved to Atlantis. The Bond Auto Parts business continues to be family owned and operated and has grown to be the largest Vermont owned auto parts chain in the state of Vermont.

In later years Earl's interests primarily centered around his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and card player and also enjoyed traveling with his wife.

Besides his wife, survivors includes his children, Barbara Odell and her husband Donald of Plano, Texas; Joyce Pecuc and her husband Thomas of Claremont, N.H.; William Bond and his wife Elizabeth of Barre and George Bond and his wife Cynthia, also of Barre. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Earl is also survived by three brothers, Paul Bond of New Hampshire, James Bond of Arizona and Robert Bond of Montpelier, Vt. He was predeceased by his parents, his three sisters, Gladys, Esther and Grace, and three brothers, Evan, Elwin and Wayne. In his final years Earl was lovingly cared for in his home by Sandra, Amos and Dylan Loutan of Wellington, Fla., and Andrea Stewart of Lake Worth, Fla.

His funeral service will be held at the Hedding United Methodist Church on Washington St. in Barre on Friday, July 27, 2001, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions be sent to The American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate Incorporated, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, VT 05446. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Services are under the directin of the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.

DOROTHY M. KELLEY BOURGEOIS

ST. ALBANS ­ Mrs. Dorothy Mary Kelley Bourgeois, age 73, died Tuesday morning, July 24, 2001, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center.

She was born in Rock Island, Quebec, Canada March 3, 1928, daughter of the late Walter S. and Kathleen (Wheeler) Derusha. She was married to Winston "Bud" Kelley in 1947. They spent many years in the military service where Dot was a member of the N.C.O. Wives Club and was a Patriotic Civilian Service Supervisor and director of over 200 women who aided the material acknowledgement of the Army Community Service Mission. She received an award for over 1000 hours of volunteer service. Bud Kelley died in 1975. In 1977 she married Weldon Bourgeois who died in 1985.

Her survivors include her granddaughter and her husband Tracey and Steven Frost, two great grandsons, Steven First, Jr. and Brandon Frost all of Dallas, Texas; her brothers and sisters-in-law Larry and Judy Kelley of Rouses Point, N.Y., Betty-Ann and John Finn, Sandra and Edward Deslauriers, Michael Kelley and his companion Beverly Frederick, all of St. Albans, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands and parents, Dot was predeceased by her brother Harley Derusha.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Kelley family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

JENNIE RATTA FRECHETTE

NORTH HERO ­ Jennie Ratta Frechette, 90, a life long resident of this community died Sunday evening, July 22, 2001, in Redstone Villa in St. Albans.

Jennie was born in North Hero Sept. 22, 1910 the daughter of the late Joseph and Delia (Poquette) Ratta. On Sept. 7, 1931 she married Armand Frechette who predeceased her July 12, 1989.

Jennie worked over thirty years as a telephone operator for New England Telephone retiring in 1966. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Benedict's Church where she served many years the church sacristan.

Jennie leaves a brother, Donald Ratta of Plattsburg, N.Y., and two sisters, Miss Gladys Ratta of North Hero and Mrs. Margaret Oryell of Castleton, N.Y. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews including Shelby Roberts of Colchester whom Jennie raised.

Two brothers, Joseph and Vernon Ratta, and a sister, Bonner Ratta, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, located on Vermont Route Two in North Hero Village. The pastor, Father Philip Branon will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Grand Isle Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Gifts in Jennie's memory may be made to Grand Isle Rescue, Grand Isle, VT 05654 or to the Visiting Nurse Association, 110 Prim Rd., Colchester, Vt 05446.

RUTH WEDGEWORTH MILLER

ALBURG/BURLINGTON ­ Ruth Wedgeworth Miller, 91, a life long resident of Alburg and most recently from Burlington, died early Monday morning, July 23, 2001, at the Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington. Ruth was a very proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother and thoroughly enjoyed her children.

Ruth was born in Alburg, Nov. 8, 1909, the daughter of the late James and Lillie (Parks) Wedgeworth. Ruth graduated from Alburg Elementary School and on Aug. 28, 1937 married Robert Miller who predeceased her May 3, 1999. Ruth was employed at various stores in Alburg and North Hero including Bessie Hazen's, Walter Hutcin's and Tudhope's. Ruth was very involved in the local community, Grande, 4-H, Alburg Rescue. She enjoyed square dancing and for many years was a Square Dance Club member in both Alburg and Champlain, N.Y. Ruth also enjoyed working, playing cards and attending weekly card parties in the Champlain Islands.

Ruth is survived by six children and spouses; Nancy Hill and husband Clifford of Underhill, David Miller and wife Donna of Highland, Calif., Daniel Miller and wife Cheri of Spartanburg, S.C., James Miller of North Haven, Conn., John Miller and wife Ruth of North Hero, Paul Miller and wife Wendy of Greensboro, N.C. She also leaves 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. She also leaves a very special friend, Masako Miller.

Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Robert Wedgeworth, a stepbrother, Phillip Hazen, and a sister Naomi Paul.

The Miller family would like to acknowledge and extend their personal thanks to Robert Benson for the wonderful care provided to their parents over the past five years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2001, at 3 p.m. from the Union Bible Church in Alburg. Interment will follow in the Miller family lot in Alburg Center Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Thursday, July 26, 2001, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Ruth's memory may be made to the Alburg Public Library or to the charity of ones choice.

HAZEL E. TOURANGEAU

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Hazel E. Tourangeau, 78, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Monday afternoon, July 23, 2001 shortly after arrival at Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in Sheldon February 19, 1923, the daughter of the late Eugene and Dorothy (Stockwell) Ovitt. Her husband, Adelord F. Tourangeau died October 4, 1979.

Hazel retired in 1999 as a seamstress at the Tyler Place in Highgate Springs where she had sewn since 1965. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of Post 88, American Legion Auxiliary in Sheldon.

Survivors include her son, Eugene Tourangeau of Tennessee; daughters, Susan and her husband, Roger Bushey of Enosburg Falls and Gretchen and her companion, Don Putnam, Sr., of Highgate; three brothers, Wesley Ovitt and his wife, Maxine, Richard Ovitt and his wife Dorothy, and Frederick Ovitt all of Sheldon Springs, two sisters, Alice Peters of Seymour, Conn., and Shirley King of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Robert and Raymond Bushey, Angela and April Bushey, Cpl. Myron Craig, Jr., Kimberly Hoague, and Eva Marie Craig; six great grandchildren, Ariel Craig, Michael Hoague, Napolion Hoague, Katisha Hoague, Alexander Craig, and Jared Parizo; a sister-in-law, Persis Tourangeau; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene Ovitt, Jr. and Everette Ovitt.

In accordance with Hazel's wishes, there will be no public visitation and funeral services will be private at the convenience of her family. Interment will be in the family lot at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Enosburg Ambulance Service, 83 Sampsonville Road, Enosburg Falls, VT 05450 or American Diabetes Association, Vermont Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160 Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

JEAN-PAUL GEBO

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Jean-Paul Gebo, age 42, died Wednesday afternoon, July 18, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care following an extended illness. He was born in St. Albans Jan. 2, 1959, son of the late Donald Gebo, Sr., and Dorothy E. (Moritz) Gebo. Jean-Paul had been employed at Digital and most recently for the Vermont Teddy Bear Company.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Donald, Jr. and his wife Mary Gebo, Ronald Gebo, Sandra and her husband David Sweetser, Sally and her husband Ronald Hope, an aunt Pansy Gebo, all of St. Albans, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothy on July 15, 1992, his father Donald, Sr. on April 31, 2000, and by a sister Shirley at the age of one year old.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will follow in the Gebo family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
