SHIRLEY D. POTVIN
RICHFORD - Graveside services for Shirley D. Potvin were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Hillside Cemetery in Richford with the Reverend Lyle Willey officiating.

Serving as the honorary pallbearer was Shirley's daughter, Linda Potvin and serving as active pallbearers were Shirley's son, Steven Potvin as well as Dan Nichols, Chuck Nichols, Michael Frost, Jeffrey Potvin and Jack Potvin.

Attending the calling hours at the Spears funeral home were several members of the military from Camp Johnson in Colchester.

Shirley Potvin, a former resident of Richford, died on Saturday, July 22, at the Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh.

The Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls assisted the Potvin family with service arrangements.

ARTHUR J. SMITH
JEFFERSONVILLE - Arthur Junior Smith, age 82, passed away quietly in his sleep early Wednesday morning, July 19, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Center after years of dedication to his family and a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Burlington on April 22, 1924, as Leon Ralph McCormick son of the late Anna (McCormick) and Carl Sharrow. He was later adopted and raised by J. Arthur and L. Belle Smith. He worked as a truck driver collecting milk from local farms for his father and as a farmer for several years. He married the former June Richardson on June 23, 1948, in Cambridge, Vt. June predeceased him on Jan. 27, 1998. After farming Arthur went on to work at the Mountain Company in Stowe at the golf course and Spruce Peak and then for the community delivering meals on wheels. For over 60 years Arthur was a member of the Masons l Mt. Mansfield Lodge 26 F & AM l Jericho.

He is survived by his loving companion, Winnie Cary of Jeffersonville; his three sons, Raymond Smith and his wife, Janet of Waitsfield, Arlan Smith and his wife, Jeannie of Waterbury Center and David Smith of St. Johnsbury; his daughter, Margaret Smith of Johnson; two step-sisters, Alice Forrest of Illinois and Georgette Mountney of Nova Scotia; his brother-in-law, Rudolph Richardson of New York; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, July 28, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home l Fairfax Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Cambridge United Church with the Reverend Craig Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery.

DEBORAH G. VINCENT
ENOSBURG FALLS - Deborah Gilbert Vincent, age 58, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. Deborah was born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on May 22, 1948, daughter of Elisabeth (Gilbert) Woods and the late Charles Woods. She was a proud graduate of Winchester-Thurston High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Westbrook College in Maine. Deborah was married to Paul Vincent who predeceased her in 1987.

She was a past member of Sheldon First Response where she enjoyed and appreciated the comradeship of her fellow rescue workers. She was also a past volunteer member of the American Red Cross. She was a loving foster mother to several foster daughters over the years. She spent her life giving to others as she cared for those in need as a homecare provider. But always remained the best provider, mother and friend to her only son, Charles and unconditionally making his dreams come true. Deborah was a true friend and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she had touched and cared for.

She is survived by her son, Charles Vincent and his companion, Marie Naylor of Fletcher; her mother, Elisabeth Woods of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one brother, Christopher Woods of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren, Jacob and Kyle Naylor of Fletcher; several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins; and her close friends, Bea and Barb. She was also predeceased by her sister, Carol Frei

A memorial service will be held at the home of Charles and Marie at a later date. Inurnment will be in the family lot in Sewickley Cemetery in Sewickley, Pa. at the convenience of the family.

WAYNE CARL GOULD, SR.
ALBURGH VILLAGE - Mr. Wayne Carl Gould Sr., age 69, died Monday morning, July 24, 2006, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility with family by his side.

Born at home in Swanton on Oct. 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Alfred and Dorothy (Greenia) Gould. He graduated from Swanton High School and on May 30, 1997, was married to the former Lisa Murray, who survives him.

A native and longtime Swanton resident he has resided for nearly 20 years in the Alburgh community. He was a carpenter working over the years for various local contractors and was an active member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont especially participating in the Circle of Courage Youth Program.

Besides his wife Lisa of Alburgh, Wayne leaves his son, Wayne Gould Jr. and his wife, Stacey, also of Alburgh; and a daughter, Valerie Cutlip and her fiancÚ, Chris Magin of Troy, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Jessica May Gould in a tragic automobile accident on June 25, 2003.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gould family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family Thursday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Wayne's memory may be made to the Circle of Courage, in care of Brenda Gagne, 49 Church St., Swanton 05488; or to the Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, 4 Firehouse Road, Alburgh 05440.

SHIRLEY D. POTVIN
RICHFORD - Shirley D. Potvin, 79, formerly of Richford, died on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at the Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh with her children at her side.

Shirley was born on Feb. 4, 1927, in Richford, the daughter of Frank and Leona (LaFleur) Draper. She was a 1945 graduate of Richford High School and, later in her life, graduated from Fanny Allen School of Nursing.

Shirley resided for a number of years in Milton where she raised her children. She later moved to Derby and then, most recently, resided with her children, first with her daughter Linda in Colchester and then with her son Steven in Plattsburgh.

As a practicing LPN, Shirley had been employed at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington and the Newport (VT) Healthcare Center. She was an avid reader and a fan of big band music.

Surviving are Shirley's children, Linda Potvin of Burlington and Steven Potvin of Plattsburgh; her grandchildren, Robert D. Nichols, his wife Jennifer and their daughter Danielle Marie Nichols of Colchester, Charles Nichols of Colchester, Chad Nichols of Tampa, Fla. and Casey, Max, Tre and Logan Potvin-Nichols, all of Colchester. Her other family members include T.J. Nichols of Colchester and Michael Frost of Plattsburgh. Shirley was predeceased by her father, Frank Draper in 1973; her mother, Leona (LaFleur) Draper in 1996; and her brother, Liscar Draper in 1975.

Graveside services for Shirley will be held on Wednesday, July 26, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hillside Cemetery in Richford with the Reverend Lyle Willey officiating. Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Should friends desire, gifts in Shirley's memory may be made to the Richford Ambulance Service, Main Street, Richford, Vt. 05476.

LYLE L. 'SHAG' FULLER
RICHFORD - Graveside committal services with full military honors will be held Wednesday afternoon, July 26, 2006, at 2 at the Richford Center Cemetery with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating.

Spears Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

RITA BEAULIEU
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Rita Beaulieu, Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at 10 a.m. with Father Maurice Roy celebrating. Assisting Father Roy at the altar were Norman Blouin and Maynard Gosselin. Scripture readings were read by Sister Cecile Lebeau. The organist and soloist was Mary Jo Gillilan. The prayer service of the Ladies of St. Anne was presented by Mrs. Rosalie Jacques.

Interment followed in the Beaulieu family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers and honorary bearers were her grandchildren Sheri and Steve Boylan, Kathy and Mike Luman, Karen and Marc Bourdeau, Scott and Lisa Beaulieu, Amanda Ashton, and Beau and Becky.

Delegations in attendance were from the Ladies of St. Anne, the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Vermont Computer Support, SCOT, BFA, and Holy Angels Parishioners.

Tuesday afternoon, Father Roy conducted a Christian Wake Service with Rita's family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

GYNETHE RITA (MESSIER) CUTTING
RICHFORD - Funeral services were held Friday, July 21, 2006, at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Organist & Soloist was Mary Jo Gillilan.

The casket pall was placed on Gynethe's casket by her daughters, Katherine Fletcher and Rita Winegar. The scripture readings were proclaimed by Gynethe's granddaughter-in-law, Jane Fletcher. Offertory gifts were presented by Gynethe's granddaughters, Candi Branon and Joanne Crawford. The eulogy that was prepared by Gynethe's daughters was read by family friend, Barbara Branon.

Committal Prayers were offered by Father Eksterowicz at the North Fairfield (Herrick) Cemetery followed by Gynethe's granddaughter, Carol Fletcher placing a rose on the family monument and family friend Paula (Boomhower) Yandow singing a hymn.

Pallbearers were Patrick Winegar (son-in-law), Richard Winegar, Alan and Byron Fletcher (grandsons), Seth Fletcher (great-grandson), and Jon Branon (grandson-in-law).

Spears Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

P. VINCENT MITCHELL
ALBURGH VILLAGE - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, July 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Assisting was The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette Deacon assigned to the Alburgh and Isle La Motte Roman Catholic Parishes. Chandler Theoret served as Minister of the Altar. Music was provided by soloist, Maurice Gauthier accompanied by organist, Carol Pellerin.

Members of the American Legion, Creller Landon Post 60 and their Auxiliary formed a large guard of honor. The White Funeral Pall was draped over Vincent's casket by his nephews, Charles and Rick Blair. The Crucifix was then placed by sister, Barbara Bechard. Nieces, Katie and Shelly Blair proclaimed the Old and New Testament Readings. The Offertory Gifts were presented by niece and nephews, Katie, Brian, Mitchell and Logan Blair. Among the other delegations in attendance were representatives from the Alburgh Village and Town Offices Irick Excavating, Drummac Septic Services, Alburgh Village and Town Offices, Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, North Hero Town Offices, Office of Attorney George Spear, Christopher Advertising, Wood and Kidder, Inc., Alburgh Public Library Association, Grand Isle County Probate Court, Alburgh School District, Visiting Nurse Association, Island Realty and associates of the former P.J. Medor, Inc.

Interment followed in St. Amadeus Cemetery with Father Boucher assisted by Deacon Vincelette reading the committal prayers. The bearers were nephews, Gordon Ledoux, John Ledoux, Edward Blair, Jared Blair and Jessie Boutah's sons, Pat and Michael Boutah.

Full Military honors were accorded the deceased by members of the Joint Forces Military Honors Detail located at Camp Johnson Colchester, Vt. Officer in Charge was LTC Ann Varney. Members of the Firing Party were, 2nd LT Neal Rhodes, MSG Edward Daudelin, SSG Marty Branch, SGT Michael Dunham, SPC Michael Audette, PFC Timothy Graves and PFC Kyle Pelletier. Bugler, SGT Michael Dunham sounded Taps. The American flag, which draped the Korean War and Vietnam Era veteran's casket, was folded by PFC Timothy Graves and PFC Kyle Pelletier and presented to MSGT Mitchell's sisters, Delores Blair and Barbara Bechard by LTC Anne Varney.

Following the committal and military services a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served at the American Legion jointly hosted by the Legion Auxiliary and parishioners of St. Amadeus Parish.

On Sunday members of the Alburgh American Legion and Auxiliary including Commander Neil Christopher and Chaplain Michael Soule led a prayer service during the evening visitation.

LYLE L. 'SHAG' FULLER
RICHFORD - Lyle L. 'Shag' Fuller, age 74, passed away Friday, July 21, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

He was born June 13, 1932, in Dunkin, Que. Canada, the son of the late Loren and Belle (Searles) Fuller.

He was a resident of Richford most of his life and was employed at Rock Tenn Paper Mill in Sheldon for almost 40 years retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the D.A.V. Post 11319 of Richford and a 30-year member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. He was also a member of the Missisquoi Lodge F&AM of Richford. Shag enjoyed snowmobiling and dancing, working in his many workshops, and gardens looking after his cucumbers and tomatoes, doing household projects, as well as reading political biographies and keeping up with world and local news. He was a faithful supporter of Richford sports, especially basketball. He loved to watch his nephews and nieces play, and was also an avid Red Sox Fan. A simple man, Shag loved life and family.

He is survived by his better half of 24 years, Bonnie Ellis of Richford; Bonnie's daughter, Heather Suetin, who considered Shag her father, and her husband Andrey of Bangor, Maine; his brothers, Walter Fuller of Brownsville Junction, Maine, and Bruce Fuller and his wife, Sharon of Richford; his sisters, Beverly Mercy of Berkshire, and Melba Ryea of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd 'Pug' Fuller; a sister, Josephine Boyce and her husband Errol; two brothers-in-law, Eugene 'Jug' Ryea and John Mercy Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Ardis Fuller.

Funeral services will be held today, July 24, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Richford Center Cemetery. Visiting hours were held Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

ROBERT ALAN (BOB) SLAYTON
HIGHGATE SPRINGS, Vt. / NOKOMIS, Fla. - Robert Alan (Bob) Slayton, 74, died Friday, July 21, 2006, in Sarasota, Fla. after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Randolph, Vt., the son of Fuller and Susan (Jewett) Slayton. He was educated in Randolph schools, graduating from Randolph High School in 1949. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1953 and received his Masters Degree from Cornell University in 1954. He was married to Joanne Wood in1953; they were divorced in 1974. On September 25, 1976, he married Lyla Clark.

In 1955 and 1956 he served in the US Air Force, as a Lieutenant. Most of his professional career he was an employee/owner of Webster Martin Consulting Engineers in South Burlington. He taught engineering at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center for a year. He founded Slayton Engineering PC in Newburgh, N.Y. In 1992 Bob was named the Vermont Engineer of the Year. He was active in the American Consulting Engineers Council, and belonged to the National Society of Professional Engineers, The Vermont Society of Engineers and was a Registered Professional Engineer in many states. He had been a mentor for many engineers. He was a past member of the Westford, Vermont planning commission. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bird watcher and had volunteered at the Audubon Society. He enjoyed camping, traveling, tennis, boating and for the last several years, wintering in Nokomis, Fla. He will be remembered for his ever, present smile and dry sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lyla of Highgate Springs, Vt. and Nokomis, Fla.; one son, John Slayton, of Lutz, Fla.; two daughters, Deborah McCanna and her husband, Tim of Essex Center, Vt. and Judy Luce and her husband, Ed of Randolph, Vt.; a brother, William Slayton and his wife, Carole of Highgate Springs, Vt.; a sister, Elizabeth Campbell and her husband, Ed of Newburyport, Mass.; seven grandchildren (Courtney Ziter, Dennis Irish, Emily and Rebecca Reynolds, Jennifer and Kyle Young, Sara Slayton); one great-granddaughter (Jocelyn Irish); nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 27, at 11 a.m. at the Day Funeral Home, Randolph, with Pastor Tom Harty officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home Wednesday, July 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Plains Road Cemetery in Westford, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, Fla. 34238. Day Funeral Home, 4 Franklin Street, Randolph, is in charge of arrangements.
