CLAIRE M. BURNS
ENOSBURG FALLS - Claire M. Burns, age 56, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 23, 2006, at her home.
She was born Sept. 10, 1949, in Newport, the daughter of the late Laurent and Evelyn (Sheltra) Poutre.
She was a resident of Enosburg most of her life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was a homecare provider for several families in the area for many years. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family but most of all loved to be with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Burns and Mark St. Marie; her grandchildren: Hannah, Melanie and Justine St. Marie, all of Sheldon; her brother, Raymond Poutre and his wife, Terri of Falls Church, Va.; her sister, Louise Chauvin and her husband, Jim of Morrisville; several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David Burns on March 3, 1995.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, April 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

DOREEN T. HUMPHREY
HIGHGATE - Doreen T. Humphrey, 81, a longtime resident of the Highgate area died early Sunday morning, April 23, 2006, at the Franklin County Rehab Center in St. Albans Town.
Born in Phillipsburg, Quebec Canada, on April 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Maude (Vale) Morse. On July 29, 1945, she was married to Wayne R. Humphrey, who predeceased her in April of 1979.
Mrs. Humphrey was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton. She enjoyed collecting dolls and was an avid Elvis fan.
She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and John Bruyette of Swanton, Judy and Clement Soutiere of Burlington and Debbie and Steve Many of Swanton; nine grandchildren: Christie Whalen and her husband, Bruce, Sonya Bruyette, Travis Bruyette, Victoria Cronsell and her husband, Christopher, Tadd Soutiere, Jarrod Soutiere, Marcy Soutiere, Eric Many and Ryan Many; three great-grandchildren: Marcalah Whalen, Haley Titus and Ethan Griffin; a sister, Amy Maxwell of British Columbia; a brother, Les Morse of Ontario; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Humphrey would like to give special thanks to all of the caring people associated with the Franklin County Rehab Center for all of their love, care, concern and support over the past several weeks.
At the family’s request there will be no public calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Humphrey family lot in the Highgate Center Cemetery. The Reverend Reid D. Farrell will officiate.
Gifts in Mrs. Humphrey’s memory may be made to Franklin County Rehab Center, Activities Department, St. Albans, Vt. or to a charity of your choice.

CHAD ARTHUR BESSETTE
FAIRFAX - Chad Arthur Bessette, 30, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Chad was born in Burlington, Vt. on March 27, 1976, the son of Arthur and Maureen (Miller) Bessette. He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax, Class of 1994.
He loved to play baseball while at BFA, and was a natural athlete. Chad was an avid sportsman and loved to fish. He enjoyed motocross and lived life to its fullest.
He was very well liked by everybody who knew him and was the joy of his parent’s life.
Following graduation from BFA, Chad worked briefly for a contractor in Colorado, where he also tried his hand at roping cattle. When he returned he began working with heavy equipment. He became well rounded with all forms of heavy equipment and had worked for S.D. Ireland for over five years.
Surviving are his parents: his father, Arthur Bessette and his wife, Brenda of South Burlington, his mother, Maureen Barry and her companion, Ted Bourgault of Lake Elmore; his brother, Eric Bessette and Jenna of Fairfax; sister, Jennifer Bessette of South Burlington; his maternal grandmother, Nelda Miller of Winooski; his paternal uncle, Peter Davaris of Burlington; and paternal aunt, Mary Martell and her husband, Bob of Underhill; his maternal aunts and uncles: Nancy Miller of California, Marilyn Combs and husband, Edwin of Florida, Bernard Miller and wife, Rhonda of Waterville, Susan Guare and husband, Philip of Westford, Danny Miller of Jamaica, Judy Bernier and husband, Ray of Milton, Patrick Miller and wife, Fay of Colchester, Flossie Miller and husband, Gary LeBlanc of Richmond and Michael Miller of Oregon; and by many cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will follow in the Fairfax Plains Cemetery.

HAROLD G. BERGER
SWANTON - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father John J. Meagher, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Joseph Gamache and John Tougas assisted as Ministers of the Altar. Mrs. Marion Lauzon and Mrs. Imelda Tougas served as Eucharistic Ministers. Music was provided by organist and soloist Mary Jo Gillilan. Members of Missisquoi Valley Rescue provided a guard of honor.
The White Funeral Pall was draped over Harold’s casket by his daughter Darcie Berger and son Mark Berger. The Crucifix was then placed by his wife Ariel (Corbiere) Berger. Readings from both The Old and New Testament were proclaimed and Special Words of Remembrance shared by nephew Chris Lussier. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Harold’s brother Rodney Berger and his wife Joyce as well as sister-in-law Joan Lussier and son-in-law James Rosa.

The bearers were grandsons, Anthony and Mathieu Berger; nephew, Robert Berger; and longtime friends and associates, Bill Rowell, Corey McCuin, Owen McCuin and Dave Talcott.
Following The Prayers of committal a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served in the Nativity Parish Center hosted by Mrs. Theresa Begnoche and the Ladies of St. Anne.
MARVIN C. WILLIAMSON
JEFFERSONVILLE - Marvin C. Williamson, 86, passed away Friday, April 14, 2006, at Clark’s Residential Care Home in Hyde Park. He was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Colchester, Vt., son of the late Raymond C. and Beatrice (Marvin) Williamson.
Marvin graduated from Cambridge High School in 1938.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Mt. Mansfield #26 of Jeffersonville and Jericho.
He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945 in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of war and was stationed in Australia and New Guinea.
After returning home he worked as a postal mail carrier and a mechanic in Jeffersonville, and was employed by Notifier Security Systems out of Williston for many years and Swartz Security Systems in Fort Worth, Texas until his retirement.
Marvin researched the records of the men and women from the town of Cambridge who served their country in the Armed Forces in World War II. He used this information for the plaque that was placed at the War Memorial in Jeffersonville in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Arlie (Nolan) Williamson, of Jeffersonville; one son, Larry Williamson of Jeffersonville; and daughter, Lois Riegert and husband, Larry of Milton; stepsons: Gary Nolan and partner, Shelley Miller, of Morrisville, Dale Nolan of Hyde Park, Mark Nolan and his wife, Marilyn, of Burlington; and a stepdaughter, Judy Blaisdell and husband, Mark of Cambridge; 14 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; his brother, Clayton and wife, Mary Lou Williamson of Florida and Fletcher; one sister, Naida Fink of Bedford, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews; and Mary Williamson, mother of his children, of Burlington.
He was also predeceased by his stepmother, Phyllis Williamson; brother, Stanley “Joe” Williamson; a sister-in-law, Mary Williamson; and a brother-in-law, Victor Fink.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville. Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to the hour of the service. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Fairfax Plain’s Cemetery, Fairfax.

GEORGE L. CROSS
MILTON - George L. Cross, 67, died early Saturday morning, April 22, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with his loving family by his side.
George was born in Burlington on Jan. 22, 1939, the son of Ernest and Melvina Cross.
He proudly served in the USMC and in the U.S. Army and retired from the Army National Guard following 23 years of service.
George was self-employed as a tradesman for many years. He enjoyed playing the guitar, jamming with friends and was a member of several bands.
On Jan. 20, 1973, he married Carole Tucker at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Fairfax.
In addition to Carole, of Milton, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Cross and her friend, Brennon Poquette of Milton; his son, Bill Cross and wife, Vicki of Starksboro; and his grandchildren: Tony, Jamie and Sami. He is also survived by his brother, James Cross of California; sister, Alice Collins of Milton; mother-in-law, Aggie Tucker of Milton; sister-in-law, Terry Smith and her husband, Reggie of Milton; brothers-in-law: Robbie Tucker and wife, Vicki of North Carolina, and Richard Tucker and wife, Lorri of Fairfax; and by several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents; and 11 siblings.

ST. ALBANS - A graveside committal service for Francis A. Bezio, who passed away on Dec. 23, 2005, will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery on South Main Street.
The Reverend Robert Bjerkaas, Pastor of the Trinity Presbyterian Church will conduct the service.

ST. ALBANS - A graveside funeral service for Florence B. Roberts, who passed away on Jan. 4, 2006, will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at 1 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery on South Main Street.
The Reverend Judy Steger Kennedy, Pastor of the First Congregational Church will officiate.

MADELYN CAHILL KEENAN
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Madelyn Cahill Keenan on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Father Leonidas Laroche was the celebrant. Assisting and proclaiming the Holy Gospel was Deacon Jack Rixon. Altar servers were Robert LeClair and John Manahan. Claire Hungerford was the organist and soloist.
The pall was placed on Madelyn’s casket by her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Mark Linsenmeir, granddaughters, Kate O’Niel and Maura O’Niel. The Crucifix was placed on the pall by granddaughter Kathy Camisa. The Holy Scripture Lessons were proclaimed by granddaughters, Madelyn Linsenmeir and Cristin Camisa. The Mass Offertory Gifts were processed by granddaughters, Meg Jarvis, Carolyn Evarts and Olivia Venturo. Deacon Rixon was the homilist and granddaughter Anne Venturo shared fond memories and gave a loving tribute to Mrs. Keenan.
Attending and forming an honorary tribute was members of the Autonoe Club. Also present were a large contingency from the Vermont House of Representatives and Vermont Senate. Other delegations represented the Northwestern Medical Center, St. Albans City, Town, Georgia and Swanton public offices, U.S. Marshall office, Franklin County Superior Court, County Court and Family Court, Central Vermont Veterans Association, Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans Library, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Former Gene French Agency, Peoples Trust Bank, Cioffi Real Estate, Handy’s Auto Dealerships, Dexter Products and longtime Lincoln Avenue neighbors and former neighbors.
Bearers were her grandsons: Kevin Camisa, Colin Camisa, Timothy Camisa, Mark Evarts, Michael Venturo and Todd Jarvis.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Laroche, Madelyn’s family sang “Oh Danny Boy” and each member placed a red rose on her casket. Interment was in the Keenan family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family returned to St. Mary’s Parish Center where the Bereavement Committee of St. Mary’s Church held a luncheon for all present.
Friday afternoon Father Laroche held a Christian Wake Service for Madelyn’s family and friends, in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
HANK M. LAUZON
SWANTON - Hank M. Lauzon, 63, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 19, 2006, at his Greenwich Street residence.
Born in Sheldon Springs on Aug. 4, 1942, he was the son of the late Andrew and Therese (Dupuis) Lauzon. He graduated from St. Mary’s Parochial School in St. Albans and on July 24, 1971, was married to the former Georgette Gauthier, who survives him.
Hank retired from IBM of Essex Junction after 30 years of service.
In addition to his wife, Georgette of Swanton, he leaves a daughter, Jodi Braida and her husband, Serge and their daughter, Jacqueline (the apple of Hank’s eye), all of New Jersey; a son, Jesse, stationed with the United States Army in Iraq, and his two children; two sisters, Denise and Madeline; two sisters-in-law, Denise and Rose; three brothers-in-law, Maurice, Rene and Tom; as well as several nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
At Hank’s request there will be no public calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate.
A gathering for family and friends with refreshments will immediately follow the liturgy in the Nativity Parish Center.

HAROLD G. BERGER
SWANTON - Harold G. Berger, 69, founder, owner and operator of H.G. Berger and Son Oil Company since 1970, died Wednesday evening, April 19, 2006, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following a short illness.
Born in St. Albans on Dec. 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Reba (Trombley) Berger. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans with the Class of 1955 and was married to the former Ariel Corbiere, who survives him.
In addition to his oil business Harold was active in the Swanton Community. He spent many years as a member of the Swanton Village Fire Department, Swanton Chamber of Commerce and regularly attended both Nativity and St. Louis Parishes. He belonged to the Elks Lodge 1056 of St. Albans and as an avid golfer was a member of the Champlain and Enosburg Country Clubs. He also enjoyed ice fishing.
Besides his wife, Ariel of Swanton, Harold leaves his daughter, Darcie Berger; his son, Mark and wife, Janet; six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Mathieu and Krystal Berger, Shannon Berger, Anthony “Chuckie” Rosa and Alexis Rosa, all of Swanton; a brother, Rodney Berger and his wife, Joyce of Swanton; six sisters: Pauline Boucher of Highgate Center, Kay Siewart of Montana, Joanne Russell and husband, Burr of Enosburg, Beverly Aucoin and husband, Lee of Williston, Nancy Bowlby and husband, Jim of Enosburg and Marlene Garceau and husband, Henry of St. Albans; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Berger.
