DOUGLAS JAY MAYNARD
MILTON - Douglas Jay Maynard, 40, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at his home.
Doug was born in Burlington on Aug. 23, 1965, the son of George and Theresa (Belval) Maynard.
He had been self-employed as a mechanic and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan.
Doug is survived by his daughters, Amanda Maynard of St. Albans and Jordan Maynard of Florida; his mother, Theresa Maynard of Milton and Florida; father, George Maynard and his wife, Donna of Colchester; by his brothers, James Maynard and his wife, Cindy of Grand Isle, and Chuck Maynard and his wife Sue, of Milton; his niece, Shannon and nephew, Ethan; and by several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Doug enjoyed spending time with his daughters and his very good friends. He enjoyed fishing, camping or just being outdoors. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, boating, working on cars and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Doug’s family would like to thank all of his close friends who were there for him while he was sick, and there when he needed someone to turn to. Your support to Doug was greatly appreciated.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at 1 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
SGT. JOSHUA ALLEN JOHNSON
RICHFORD - SGT. Joshua Allen Johnson, age 24, was tragically killed in Ramadi, Iraq on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, while serving with the Vermont National Guard unit Task Force Saber during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Josh was born Aug. 13, 1981, in St. Albans, Vt., the son of Laura Johnson.
Josh was a life long resident of Richford and was a 1999 graduate of Richford High School. When not serving in the Vermont National Guard he was employed at Century Arms in St. Albans.
Josh’s hobbies and interests are as follows: NASCAR Nextel racing, collected NASCAR collectables, hunting especially with his good friends James Seiferth and Marshall Hurlbut, art especially drawing, camping with his family, woodworking, running, biking, physical fitness, photography, reading, skiing, and playing basketball with his brother Beeper.
In June of 2001, Josh joined the United States Army and completed his Basic and Advanced training at Fort Benning, Ga. Following completion of his training at Fort Benning, Josh was stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y. with Company C, 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment. From October 2001 until April 2002, Josh deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Anaconda where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge. Sergeant Johnson left the United States Army in June of 2003 and joined Alpha Company 3-172nd Infantry (Mountain) Battalion as an in-service recruit. While with Alpha Company, he completed the Army Air Assault Course in June of 2004. Sergeant Johnson was deployed with Alpha Company, Task Force Saber in January of 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sergeant Johnson was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbons, Vermont Distinguished Service Medal, Vermont Veterans Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
He is survived by his parents, Laura (Johnson) and Kevin Royea; his siblings, Crystal, Deanna, Kevin Jr., and Lacey; his maternal grandparents, Harold “Durwood” and Phyllis (Simpson) Johnson; his paternal grandfather, Basil Royea, all of Richford; several aunts, uncles and cousins including, Bonnie Wilson, her husband Asa Jr., their family, Hannah and her daughter, Taylor Jette, Amanda and her daughter, Chloe Wilson - Robitaille, and Sarah Wilson. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Winifred (Currier) Royea; an uncle, Dale Royea; and a cousin, Joshua Cox.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Richford High School Gymnasium with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

PAULETTE R. CHURCH
ST. ALBANS - After a short and valiantly fought illness, Mrs. Paulette R. Church passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care with her loving family by her side. Paulette was the epitome of grace and dignity throughout her life and in her final moments. She was born June 10, 1929, in Montpelier, daughter of the late Leodor and Annette (Poirier) Richard.
She married Vernon Church, Sept. 27, 1952. Mr. Church predeceased her July 7, 1984. Paulette worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone retiring in 1979. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Unit 758. In addition to being a devoted mother, she enjoyed summers at camp, reading and cooking special favorites for loved ones. Her last 11 years were blessed by her constant companion, Nikki, her Maltese poodle.
She is survived by her four daughters: Debra Gleason and her husband, Timothy of Fairfax, Susan Gardner and her husband, Gary of St. Albans, Carrie Goodson and her husband, Keith of San Diego, Calif., and Barbara Church and her companion, Greg Raymond of St. Albans; a son, C.V. Church of Clear, Ala.; six grandchildren: Jessica Rogers and her husband, Steven, Jonathan Olmstead and his companion, Stephanie Roberts, Kellie and Colin Goodson, and Danielle and Timothy Gleason Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Cate Rogers; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert and Marcel Richard.
The family wishes to extend much gratitude to the caring staff and volunteers at Northwestern Medical Center ICU and to the MICU staff at Fletcher Allen for allowing Paulette’s final journey to be so peaceful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Interment will follow in the Church family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans.

ALBERTA S. BEEBE
SWANTON - Alberta S. Beebe, 88, a longtime resident of the Swanton community, died late Tuesday evening, Jan. 31, 2006, at the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town.
Born in St. Albans on April 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eunice (Leach) Strait. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans and later attended Hair Dressing School.
She was married to Gaylord Beebe of Swanton, and for employment reason relocated to Connecticut. In 1945 they returned to Swanton to continue the operation of Gaylord’s family farm and spent the next three decades raising turkeys, ponies and producing milk. During their retirement years Alberta and Gaylord enjoyed sixteen winters in Orange City, Fla.
Alberta loved playing cards and was a regular at area 500 card and bridge parties including the Autonoe Club. She was a longtime member of the Swanton Memorial United Methodist Church.
Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Gaylord, and her sister, Helen Derby of Richford.
She leaves her sisters: Alma Jackson of Colebrook, Conn., Charlene Curtis and husband Roger of Lake Helen, Fla.; and a brother, Charles “Bud” Strait of St. Albans. Also surviving are two sons: David Beebe and his wife, Clare of Swanton, and Ted Beebe and his partner, Kathy Auletta of Fairfax; grandchildren, Chris, Celeste, Carrie and Gayle, and great-grandchildren, Alex, Nathan Alana and Emily; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services and Interment will be held in the spring in Riverside Cemetery.

RAYMOND ERNEST BROOKS
SAN DIEGO, Calif. / ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Raymond Ernest Brooks, 59, passed away on Jan. 19, 2006, in San Diego, from complications of bone marrow and heart disease. He was born in St. Albans on Dec. 31, 1946, the son of the late Aubert and Frances (Scott) Brooks.
Raymond graduated from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, Champlain College in Burlington and the Air Force School in Amarillo, Texas. He was a Vietnam Era veteran and a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. His many different occupations included IBM, grocery store owner, tavern owner, and real estate investments. He enjoyed restoring old homes and collecting antiques.
Survivors include his sister, Gail Brooks Thomas; a half sister, Frances Pontbriand of Winooski; several nieces and nephews; and several friends from New York and California. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Howard W. Brooks.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Balboa Park in San Diego, across the street from where he lived. Graveside funeral services and interment will be in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery this spring at a time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Keith Ungricht, 5010 Garfield Street, La Mesa, CA 91941 to be used for a plaque for Raymond at the Mount Soledad War Memorial.

BEVERLY T. WARREN
HARBOR SPRINGS - Beverly T. Warren, age 65, of Harbor Springs, died Jan. 28, 2006, at her home.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Petoskey United Methodist Church, with Dr. James Mitchum officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
Beverly was born on Aug. 19, 1940, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Harland Edwin and Ola (Ellsworth) Tracy. Beverly grew up in Fairfax, graduating from Bellows Free Academy.
On Sept. 2, 1960, Beverly married Martin William Warren in Fairfax, and he survives.
Beverly worked at Howard National Bank in Burlington, Vt. and continued to work at banks in California, Connecticut and Illinois. She later worked for and retired from Hudson’s Department Store. Beverly’s most important and most memorable years were devoted to her husband of 45 years, Marty and their three children.
She was a member of the Petoskey United Methodist Church, Little Traverse Bay Quilters, the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, and enjoyed home decorating, sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening and sailing.
She is survived by her husband, Martin; three children: Leslie (Dave) May of Kalamazoo, MI, Stephanie (Andrew) McGreevy of Petoskey, and Martin J. (Tracy) Warren of Milton, Mass.; two grandchildren: David May and Anna McGreevy; three sisters: Shirley Geno of Fletcher, Vt., Phyllis Fletcher of Cambridge, Vt. and Barbara O’Toole of Tinton Falls, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harland and Ola Tracy; and by her brother, Ralph Tracy.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Little Traverse Bay or the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey, MI.
PHILLIP BROOKS HAYDEN
GEORGIA - Phillip Brooks Hayden passed away on Friday, March 31, 2006, at his residence on the Ballard Road in Georgia, following a long illness. He was born in Georgia on April 3, 1934, the son of the late Earl and Bertha (Byrd) Hayden.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce H. (Sweeney) Hayden of Georgia; two sons and a daughter; and a brother.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Georgia United Methodist Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home.
REGINA L. REYNOLDS
SWANTON l A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Regina L. Reynolds on Thursday at 11 a.m. in The Church of the Nativity. Father John Meagher, S.S.E., was the principal celebrant, concelebrating with Father Maurice Boucher, S.S.E., pastor of St. Amadeus Church in Alburgh, St. Joseph Church in Isle La Motte and Director of St. Anne's Shrine. Yvette Ouimet was the Eucharistic Server.
Altar servers were great-grandsons, Brian and Brady Howrigan, assisted by John Tougas. The funeral pall was placed on Regina's casket by her daughters, Donna Jones, Aleta Nichols, Candace Brady and Wendy Mitchell. The Crucifix was placed on the pall by daughters, Cheryl Spaulding and Deborah Doig. The Holy Scripture Lessons were read by granddaughters, Stacy Bruyns and Cari Howrigan. Granddaughter, Marybeth Nicholas, was the soloist, accompanied by organist and soloist Mary Jo Gillilan. Offertory Gifts were presented by Regina's brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Betty Langevin.
The prayers honoring a member of the Ladies of St. Anne were read by Yvette Ouimet and fond words of remembrance by son-in-law, Bruce Spaulding, were read by his daughter, Stacy Bruyns.
A guard of honor was present from the Ladies of St. Anne and the Altar Society of The Church of the Nativity. Also, an honor guard was in attendance from Missisquoi Valley Rescue. Attending were representatives of Northwestern Medical Center, Haven Health Care Center, Franklin County Probate Court, Canterbury Council of the Knights of Columbus, Swanton town and village officials, Swanton Rexall, Ray's Die and Tubing, Bellows Free Academy Athletic Department, Mylan Industries, U.P.S. Supply Chain Solutions and the Gramma and Grampa's Singing Group.
Honorary and Active Bearers were Regina's grandchildren, Loren Spaulding, Darcy LeClair, Corey Mitchell, Heather Doig, Jacy Lunna, Jason Spaulding, Ian Doig, Kevin Nichols, Allen Brady and Trevor Mitchell.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Meagher and Father Boucher, interment was in the Reynolds family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family and friends shared refreshments in the Parish Center, hosted by Rita Ferland and the parish family.
Wednesday evening, Father Meagher held a Christian Wake Service with Regina's family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
MARIE-PAULE (GAUVIN) MENARD
NORWICH - Mrs. Marie-Paule (Gauvin) Menard, 86 years old, a well-known (retired) business woman in St. Albans and in the Farnham area, Quebec, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 4:05 p.m. in her Norwich/Hartford, Vt. home, surrounded by members of her family.
Mrs. Menard was born in l'Ange-Gardien (Rouville), Quebec, Canada on July 17, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Alcide Gauvin and of the late Leonida Messier; she married the late Roch Menard.
She leaves behind her two bereaving sons, Denis (husband of Diane Lussier) of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada and Andre (husband of Kathy Barnhart) of Norwich, Vt.; five grandchildren: Lise, Jean-Denis, Mathieu, Mikayla and Katrina, and four great-grandchildren: Jeremie, Alex and Jordan Maheu [Lise] and Eve Menard [Jean-Denis]. She also leaves behind one sister, Marie-Jeanne (wife of Jean-Claude Fleury) of Granby, Quebec; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
The Menard family wishes to express a special thank you' to all the members of the Valley Terrace Assisted Living' facility for the excellent quality of their services and for the personal and particular attention they provided to Mrs. Menard during the four years she spent with them. They are also grateful to the infirmary and medical personnel of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center' of Lebanon, N.H., for the excellent care given to Mrs. Menard.
At her request, Mrs. Menard's remains will be cremated. The ashes will then be taken to St. Mary's Church located at 45 Fairfield St. in St. Albans where the family will gather at noon to meet with those who wish to visit and later participate, at 1 p.m., in a Eucharist celebration honoring the life of Mrs. Menard.
Internment will take place in the family plot located in St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Albans.
