GLORIA E. HOAGUE
HOPEDALE - Gloria E. (LaRocque) Hoague, 80, of Mill Street, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at her residence. She was the wife of the late James E. Hoague, who died in 1994.
Mrs. Hoague had been employed as a secretary for Hill Food Service in Milford for 20 years before retiring in 1980.
Mrs. Hoague was born on May 31, 1925, in Swanton, Vt., the daughter of the late Ernest and Georgiana (Hamel) LaRocque. She was a graduate of St. Anna’s High School in Swanton and had also attended the Burlington Business School, Burlington. Mrs. Hoague has been a resident of Hopedale since 1955.
Mrs. Hoague was a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister of Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale and an active member of the Women’s Guild of the church. She was also a member of the Hopedale Country Club.
Mrs. Hoague is survived by two sons and two daughters, including June Marie Hoague and Robert J. Hoague, both of Hopedale, Richard A., husband of Madeline Hoague of Ayer, Janet G., wife of Dan Mrozienski of Grafton; one brother, Bernard LaRocque of Swanton, Vt.; two grandchildren, Brad Lenaghan of Grafton, Mass. and Christian Hoague of Princeton; two great-grandchildren, Paige Hoague and Connor Hoague, both of Princeton; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoague is predeceased by one brother, Francis Larocque; and one sister, Sylvia Larocque.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. today, Feb. 20, 2006, from the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home in Milford, Mass., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale. Interment followed at the Hopedale Village Cemetery. Visiting hours were held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Burma-Sargeant Funeral Home.

MICHELLE (THIBAULT) IRWIN
NASHUA, N.H. / ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Michelle (Thibault) Irwin, 42, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at her home. She was born June 10, 1963, in Nashua, daughter of James and Barbara Thibault of St. Albans, and Diana (Pisson) and Sylvester Mogollon of Worcester, Mass.
Michelle loved her crossword puzzles and collecting tigers. She was educated in Nashua and St. Albans, and also in Job Corps.
Besides her parents, she is survived by two daughters, Desiree and Amber Irwin of Nashua; two grandchildren, Juaquin Perez and Briana Noel; two brothers, James and wife, Rhonda Thibault of St. Albans, and John and wife, Michelle Davis of Swanton; one sister, Gwen Davis of Spanaway, Wash.; a grandmother, Helen Thibault of Milford, N.H.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Davis Funeral Home in Nashua was in charge of the arrangements.
JAMES LINCOLN BARTLETT
James (Jim) Lincoln Bartlett passed away suddenly on Feb. 14, 2006, at his home in Yulee, Fla.
Jim was born June 22, 1947, in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of the late Allan J. Bartlett Jr. and Elizabeth A. (Kliensmith) Bartlett, formerly of Stowe, Vt.
Jim was a long time resident of St. Albans before moving to Florida in recent years. He was a graduate of Peacham Academy in Peacham, Vt. and went on to attend Champlain College in Burlington. Jim was a proud member of the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1973. He was employed for 20 years with the Central Vermont Railways in St. Albans. Jim was an avid historian, military gaming enthusiast and cribbage player.
Jim is survived by his wife, Donna (Karissa) Bartlett of Yulee, Fla.; his daughter, Amy (Bartlett) Cowan and her husband, Craig of St. Albans, as well as her mother, Linda Barker Bartlett of St. Albans; his two brothers, William and his wife, Susan Bartlett of Hyde Park, Vt., and David and his wife, Amy Bartlett of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Susan and her husband, Jere Johnston of Baton Rouge, La.; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces.
Memorial services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family in Florida. A local memorial service may take place later this spring.

BOYD F. ALDRICH
TYNSGBORO, Mass. - Mr. Boyd F. Aldrich of Tyngsboro, Mass., died Feb. 15, 2006 at his daughters home in Tyngsboro, Mass.
He was married to the late Barbara M. (Kiernan) Aldrich who died in 2004, and the late Arline (Vassallo) Aldrich who died in 1961.
Boyd was born in St. Albans, Vt. on July 25, 1924, the son of the late Clarence and Laura (Rich) Aldrich. He was a graduate of B.F.A High School with the class of 1943. He graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming in Boston, Mass., and received both a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T.
He was a decorated World War II Veteran serving with the U.S. Army as a Commo Chief. Among his many military decorations are Three Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart he received from wounds he received during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany in 1944, the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, and Combat Inf. Badge.
Over the years he was employed with the New England Telephone Co. as an Electrical Engineer until his retirement in 1986. He also taught at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Mass., and was a Master Electrician, a Registered Funeral Director and Embalmer and in the mid 70s worked with the Dolan Funeral Home in Chelmsford, Mass., and the Clough Funeral Home in Peabody, Mass. He owned the A & B Gun Shop in Tyngsboro, and he and his wife Barbara owned and operated the Search Me Ceramics Studio in Tyngsboro, Mass. He and his family own and operate the Inn and Restaurant at Long Sands in York Beach, Maine.
He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in North Chelmsford, Mass.
He was a member of V. F. W. Post 758 in St. Albans, Vt., the Purple Heart Association, and the Pioneer Club, and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his three daughters: Arline and her husband, William Shea, Barbara Aldrich-Clougherty and her fiancée, Mark Jewett, and Anne Roy; and his two sons: Boyd F. Aldrich II and Brad F. and his wife, Michelle (Davis) Aldrich, all of Tyngsboro, Mass.; and an adopted daughter, Suzanne and her husband, Warren Glenn of Hudson, N.H.; five sisters: Margaret Morgan, Lucille and her husband, Curtis Brown, and Dorothy Dussault, all of St. Albans, Vt., Shirley Abell and Joan Pauley, both of Concord, N.C.; and one brother, John and his wife, Frances (Young) Aldrich of St. Albans, Vt.; 10 grandchildren: Arline R.B. and Ashley B. Shea, Daniel Jewett, Kevin Deibert, Amberley Deibert, Harrison Roy, Aubreyanna I. Roy, Jessica M. Aldrich, all of Tyngsboro, Mass., Christopher Glenn, and Eric Glenn both of Hudson, N.H. He was the brother of the late Theresa and Vincent Aldrich, both of St. Albans, Vt.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. from the Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex St., Chelmsford, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in North Chelmsford, Mass. Burial in Tyngsboro Memorial Cemetery, Tyngsboro, Mass.

LORRAINE E. NAVAROLI
ENOSBURGH - Lorraine E. Navaroli, age 73, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 15, 2006, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Waterbury, Conn., the daughter of the late John and Anna (Laukaitis) Brunelli.
Lorraine was a 1953 graduate of the Waterbury School of Nursing. On Nov. 19, 1955, she married John A. “Tony” Navaroli and then spent the next 30 years living in Ohio where she worked as a nurse at Greene Memorial Hospital and Brantley Nursing Home both in Xenia, Ohio. Following her retirement in 1987 she and Tony moved to Vermont where she enjoyed working in her garden, taking walks with Tony and summer visits with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tony of Enosburgh; her son, Randy Navaroli, and his children Ryan, Lauren and Zachary all of Ohio; her siblings: Louis Brunelli and his wife, Gloria of Oakville, Conn., Joan Guzzardi and her husband, Francis of Waterbury, Conn., John Brunelli Jr. of Oakville, Conn., and Patricia Walsh and her husband, James of Oakville, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Stella Tressaloni and her husband, Domenic of Leominster, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Rudy.
In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

HELEN A. MERCURE
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Helen A. Mercure, 90, an area resident since 1950, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was born in Burlington on June 30, 1915, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Alexandrine (Lawrence) Couture. At Burlington in 1937, Helen married Clarence R. Mercure, who predeceased her on Sept. 9, 1994.
Helen was Postmaster in Sheldon Village for over 25 years and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include her daughter and husband, Jean and Ron Guilmette of St. Albans; her son and wife, James and Fern Mercure of Sheldon; six grandchildren: Daniel Guilmette, Robert Guilmette, Sarah Guilmette, Steven Mercure, Susan Mercure Slysz, and Brenda Mercure Healey; four sisters: Bernadette Cross of Shelburne, Sr. Beatrice Couture of Burlington, Cecile Hall of Maryland, and Gertrude Viens of Essex; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Clarence, she was predeceased by four brothers: Father Joseph Couture, SSE, Albert Couture, Alfred Couture, and Leonard Couture; and a sister, Rita Bennett.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visitation. Interment will be in the Mercure family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. is assisting the family with arrangements.
LORETTA W. SAMPSON
GEORGIA / ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Loretta W. Sampson on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the celebrant. Assisting at the altar were Richard Brandt and Maynard Gosselin. Claire Hungerford was the organist and soloist. Holy Scripture Lessons were read by Emily Britch.
A guard of honor was present from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Auxiliary Unit 758. Also attending were members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 758 American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 and Auxiliary Unit 1, International Business Machines employees, Eveready, former Union Carbide Consumer Products and Fonda Group employees, many equine trainers and showmen, neighbors and former neighbors.
Bearers were her nephews, Alan Sears and Peter Sears; family friends, Clifton Britch, Robert LaLancette, John Lindberg and Robert Montgomery.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy, entombment took place pending burial next spring in the Sampson family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
A luncheon, hosted by the Ladies of St. Anne and Robert Santini, was held for family and friends in the Holy Angels Parish Center.
Wednesday afternoon, Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with Loretta’s family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
MILDRED A. RIVARD
BURLINGTON / ENOSBURG FALLS - Mildred A. Rivard, age 90, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 13, 2006, at the Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington after several years of failing health.
She was born June 24, 1915, in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Forant) Revoir.
After working for several families in the area, she moved to Wallingford, Conn. where she was employed for many years at Gaylord Farms Sanatorium. Upon returning to the area, she served as nanny for Burlington families, particularly the Allen’s and Bartlett’s. She enjoyed caring for and supervising the small children of these families. After retiring from this work, she resided in senior housing on College Street where she made many friends. With failing health, she moved to Starr Farm Nursing Center where she has resided since 1999.
Mildred is survived by her sisters: Lena Benoit of Enosburg Falls, Elizabeth Sturgeon of Franklin, and Connie Rock of Shelburne; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Anna Stanley; and her brothers, Arthur, Francis, Raymond and Richard Revoir.
At her request there will be no calling hours. A private service and burial will be held at the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls at a later date at the convenience of the family.

ROGER H. ST. PIERRE
Largely attended funeral services for Roger H. St. Pierre, who passed away on Feb. 8, 2006, were held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche, Pastor of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church officiating.
Words of remembrance were offered by family friend, Gary Rutkowski.
In attendance was representation from the St. Albans Messenger, St. Albans City and Town, Fairfax, Georgia, Fairfield, and Swanton Fire Departments, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, U. S. Postal Service, Wagon Wheel Truck Stop, Amcare Ambulance, J & L Snack Shop, Total Home Care, WCAX and WPTZ Television, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Clarence Brown, Inc., Franklin County Home Health Agency, Vermont State Police, and Vermont Air Guard.
Prayers of committal were offered by Father Laroche. Interment will be later this spring in the family lot in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Assisting Roger’s family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
LORETTA W. SAMPSON
GEORGIA / ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Loretta W. Sampson, age 74, died Sunday morning, Feb. 12, 2006, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center following a brief illness. She was born in Fairfield, Oct. 31, 1931, daughter of the late Henry and Ruth (Underwood) Sears.
She was employed at Fonda Container Corp. for several years and for 22 years before her retirement she was at Union Carbide Consumer Products (now Energizer). She loved horses and raised Morgans. She entered her Morgan horses in several shows and was a member of the National Morgan Horse Association. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 758 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1, both of St. Albans. She enjoyed collecting antiques, bears and coins and frequently attended area Bingo games.
Oct. 30, 1952, she married Aime Sampson. Besides her husband Aime, of over 53 years, Loretta is survived by her daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Michael Gregoire of Georgia; her son, Robert Sampson and his companion, Heather Ferguson of Arlington, Mass.; her brother, Marshall and his wife, Eleanor Sears of Georgia; sisters-in-law, Irene Sears of Georgia, and Theresa Smart of Burlington; brother-in-law, Rolland Samson and his wife, Beverly of No. Adams, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Her life was prolonged by having a special grandson, Darik Gregoire. Loretta was predeceased by her son Stephen in May of 1978, and by her brother Darwin Sears.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be next spring in the Sampson family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
