SEAN C. PARKER
FLETCHER - Sean Christopher Parker, infant son of Larry and Mary Louise (Christoff) Parker of Fletcher, passed away with his parents by his side, Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a short illness. He was born on Nov. 16, 2005, in St. Albans. Although Sean was with us only a short time, he was a true blessing.

He is survived by his parents of Fletcher; two brothers, Ryan Parker of Fletcher and Evan Parker of Fletcher; a sister, Meagan Parker of Tampa, Fla.; maternal grandfather, Eugene Christoff of Elizabeth, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Lois and Leland Parker of Agency, Iowa; several aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Mary Christoff.

Visiting hours will be held today, Jan. 23, 2006, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the A.W. Rich Funeral Home Fairfax Chapel, Fairfax. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the A. W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax Chapel with the Reverend Daniel Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery lot.

DAVID LELAND COVEY
SWANTON - Funeral Services were held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. The Reverend Roland Ludlam, pastor of Church of the Rock in St. Albans Town officiated.

Special Words of Remembrance were shared by grandson, Robert Belrose, and a close friend, Candy Thomas.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Franklin County Home Health Agency, Warren Fournier Home Improvement Center, Memorial United Methodist Church, IBM, Banknorth, Nativity Parish Community, and retired associates of the former Central Vermont Railroad.

Interment followed in the Covey family lot in Riverside Cemetery with The Reverend Mr. Ludlam reading the committal prayers.
The bearers were nephews, Gerard Lafreniere and Louie Shappy; and close family friends and extended family, Mark, Brad and Josh Thomas and George Britch.

ELIZABETH MARIE ‘BETTY’ SHERMAN
DERWOOD, Md. - Elizabeth Marie “Betty” Sherman, age 66, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, 2006, at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda with her loving family by her side following a long courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
During Betty’s illness she participated in Lymphoma Studies at NCI to help researchers find a cure for cancer.

She was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Nola Elizabeth (Stone) Cifala.

Betty was raised in Bethesda, Md., she was a 1957 graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School and was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church where she was very active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Following High School she attended Lycoming College. From 1964 to 1990 she made her home in Norwich, Conn., where she was an administrative assistant and office manager for several business’s including, A.C. Swan, and Norwich Physical Therapy. While in Norwich she was also a member of the Norwich Women’s City Club (past president), a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader (Den Mother). She was also a member of Lee Memorial United Methodist Church where she was member of the Organ Search Committee as well as many other committees.

In 1990 she returned to Bethesda to be with her parents in their later years and also made her home in Montgomery Village finally residing in Derwood. While in Maryland she was employed at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at NIH in Bethesda, and at the Food & Drug Administration, Center for Development and Radiological Health as the Incentive Awards Officer where she was well known in the Federal Government as a gracious host and event planner, retiring in 2001. While working at the NCI she enrolled at the University of Maryland University College and graduated in 1993 with a BS Management Studies.

She was a member of the Mill Creek Parish United Methodist Church and the Mill Creek Garden Club. She was also a Stephen Minister.

Betty was an accomplished artist, seamstress, quilter and crafter. She enjoyed classical music and international travel. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Susan Gibeault and her husband, L. Robert of Lake Worth, Fla., and Thomas E. Cook and his wife, Deborah of Enosburgh, Vt.; two grandchildren, Ian and Jayne Gibeault of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Zulienne Wolfrey and her husband, Clyde of Brookeville, Md.; a brother, Frank J. Cifala Jr., who was very generous to donate his stem cells for Betty’s transplant in August of 2005 to extend his sister’s life, and his wife Sally of Big Timber, MT; her nieces and nephew: Kimberly Moyer of Union Bridge, Md., Laurel and Andrew Cifala of Big Timber, MT; many cousins and friends, including a very dear friend, Eileen Morgan. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her grandson, Thomas Stephen Cook, Nov. 21, 2001.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Mill Creek Methodist Church.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, Md.

A committal prayer service will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, Vt., with burial to follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery, Enosburg Falls, Vt.

Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to the Children’s Inn at NIH, 7 West Drive, Bethesda, Md. 20814.

DAVID LELAND COVEY
SWANTON VILLAGE - David Leland Covey, 90, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community, died early Wednesday evening, Jan. 18, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Swanton on June 9, 1915, he was the son of the late Miles and Annie (Bertrand) Covey. He attended schools in Swanton and on May 26, 1938, married the former Luella Martin, who survives him.

In 1942, Mr. Covey became associated with the former Central Vermont Railroad working his way up from the fireman’s position to engineer during an era of vast technological change and progression. He retired when the railroad closed on Sept. 30, 1975, after 33 years of service. He was a member of the BLE Division 330 of St. Albans. Besides his many responsibilities with the railroad he remodeled his home on River Lane and enjoyed ceramics and in earlier years spent time hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife Luella of nearly 68 years, Mr. Covey leaves a daughter, Lila Buker of Enfield, Conn.; three grandchildren: Robert Belrose and his wife, Andrea of Ellington, Conn., Steven Buker of Enfield, Conn. and Darcie Chaput and her husband, Roger also of Enfield, Conn.; four great-grandchildren: Jennifer Belrose of Willington, Conn., Steven Buker, Jr. and his wife Tina of Enfield, Conn., Robert Buker of Brattleboro, Vt. and David Holden of Manchester, Conn.; a great-great-grandchild, Vincent Buker; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Gently of Campton, N.H.; nieces and nephews: Judith and Gerard Lafreniere of Wolcott, Conn., Ramona and Keith McGillan of Plymouth, Conn., David Morrissette of Torrington, Conn., Carol and Frank Mercier of Torrington, Conn., Margaret and Sargent Catherall of Clifton Park, N.Y., Irene and Louie Shappy of St. Albans; and many great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving are very good friends and extended family members, Mark and Candy Thomas of Swanton and George and Patty Britch of Highgate.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 2 p.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Roland Ludlam, pastor of Church of the Rock will officiate. Interment will follow in the Covey family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening, Jan. 20, 2006, from 7 to 9 p.m.

COLETTE G. PLATT
VERO BEACH, Fla. / ST. ALBANS, Vt. - Colette G. Platt died peacefully on Jan. 17, 2006 after a protracted illness. She was born in Chelsea, Mass. on Sept. 21, 1917, and moved to Winchester, Mass. with her family. She was married in that community on Sept. 20, 1941.

Colette and her husband, Robert, had three children: J. Garry Platt of Marathon, Fla., Laura P. Perry of Midlothian, Va. and Marion Plait of Chicago, Ill. She had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with a tenth anticipated shortly. The family used to joke that the marriage of Colette and Bob was ‘The birth of a nation.’

Colette graduated from Wheelock College and Lowell State Teachers College with an intended career in teaching but after marriage decided to remain a devoted mother and homemaker. While in her 50s, along with two friends, she elected to commute to New York from her home in Connecticut and fulfill a lifelong ambition by attending and graduating from the New York School of Interior Design with a certificate as an Interior Designer.

Colette, as the wife of a Senior Corporate Executive, elected to hostess multiple social events, which she did with grace, humor and warmth. At one time, having found it difficult to participate fully in a new community decided to assist in initiating a Newcomers Club to ease transition for others. This function subsequently flourished to the benefit of many.

Colette was an avid bridge player and had accumulated multiple master points playing principally at the Woodway Country Club in Darien, Conn. where she and her husband had been members for over 30 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Fla. Interment will be this spring in the Platt family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery, in St. Albans, Vt. A time and date will be announced when ground conditions permit burial with a graveside service.

Local arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

PAULINE MARIE DUBUQUE
SOUTH HERO - Pauline Marie Dubuque, 74, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her family by her side.

Pauline was born in Alburg, Vt. on Aug. 8, 1931, the daughter of John and Blanche (Gonyea) Hunter. She graduated from the Alburg High School Class of 1949.

On June 3, 1951, she married Alden Dubuque in St. Amadeus Catholic Church in Alburg. Together, they purchased a dairy farm in South Hero in 1955. Pauline was a long time employee of Allenholm Farm Market. In 1967, she and Alden started a plumbing business, serving the Islands and surrounding area. Pauline handled all the administrative and accounting duties behind their successful business.

Pauline was married to her loving husband Alden, who survives her, for over 54 years. She is also survived by her children: Donnie Dubuque of South Hero, Alfred Dubuque Sr. of Graniteville, and William Dubuque and his wife, Alison of South Hero; by her grandchildren: Alfred Jr. (A.J.), Ashley, Justin and Erica; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, John Hunter, who died while Pauline was very young; her step-father, Leon Curtis and her mother, Blanche Curtis; by her sister, Alda Hunter; and her brothers: Johnny, Carl and Walter Hunter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. on Saturday, January 21, 2006 in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero. Burial will be in the South Hero Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the South Hero Rescue, P.O. Box 365, So. Hero, Vt. 05486-0365.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

LINDA K. DEYO
ST. ALBANS - Linda K. Deyo, 57, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Redstone Villa following a long illness. She was born in Colchester on Dec. 31, 1948, the daughter of Elizabeth Day Powell and the late Archie Powell.

Linda was a bookkeeper in the accounts payable department at the former Fonda Container Company.

Besides her mother, Elizabeth of Jericho, she is survived by a daughter, Renée Deyo of St. Albans; a brother and his wife, Dean and Mally Powell of Essex Junction; a grandson, Cameron Capsey of St. Albans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by a brother, Frederick Powell.

A graveside funeral service will be held this spring in the family lot at Pleasant View Cemetery in Jericho, at a time to be announced.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Vermont Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, N.H. 03301-5004.

EDWARD H. AIKEN
ST. ALBANS - Edward H. Aiken, 88, formerly of South Burlington and Jericho, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Haven Health Care Center after a long illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Schroon Lake, N.Y., the adopted son of Elizabeth (Harmon) and LD Aiken.

He graduated from Schroon Lake Central High School in 1935. He married the former Henrietta V. Mingo, who predeceased him in 1994, on April 5, 1942, in Schroon Lake, N.Y.

Ed was a Veteran of World War II, a soldier in the 186th Field Artillery Battalion, taking part in the D-Day Invasion. Upon his return to the states he began his long career as an Electrician. He worked for many local as well as out of state contractors. He was a member of the IBEW and served as Treasurer for many years.

Ed's survivors include his two sons, Terry and his wife, Sheila and their children, Tim, Jamie and Becky; Bruce and his wife, Patty and their children, Scott, Julie and Laura; four daughters: Linda and her husband, Skip Pelletier and their children, Nikki, Rae and Drew; Donna and her husband, Kevin Lepage and their daughter Amadee; Dayle and her husband, Steve Moreau and their children Sean and Stephanie; Pam and her husband, Mike Malboeuf and their children, Jess, Heather, Joe, Jon and Caitlin. Ed also leaves 17 great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours and private services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Unit at Haven Health Care Center, 596 Sheldon Road, St. Albans, Vt.; or to Alzheimer Research.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Haven Health Care for the wonderful care they gave Ed over the last five years.

ARDON (DON) J. PUFFETT
Ardon (Don) J. Puffett of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, husband of Marian Cameron, formerly of St. Albans, Vt., died Jan. 13, 2006, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. of cancer. Ardon was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Arlington, Iowa, to Wayne and Enid (Crawford) Puffett.

Ardon and Marian were married Oct. 6, 1962, at St. Mary’s Church in St. Albans, Vt. Ardon served from 1958 to 1962 in the United States Air Force.

Ardon retired in 1998 after 35 years with Northwest Bell, U.S. West and Quest telephone companies. They moved to the Missouri Ozarks in the fall of 1998.

Ardon is survived by his wife, Marian of 43 years; and by his two sons, Anthony and his wife, Noelle of Cherokee, Iowa; Jeffrey and his wife, Jen of Carroll, Iowa; two granddaughters, Suzanne of Sioux City, Iowa and Kylie of Carroll, Iowa; grandsons, James of Cherokee, Iowa and Keaton of Carroll, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Madison of Sioux City, Iowa; his mother, Enid, 96 years old of Cabool, Mo.; brother, Nathan and his wife, Darlene of Arlington, Iowa; brother, Kenny and his wife, Brenda of Claremore, Ok.; brother, Roger and his wife, Dena of Little Rock, Arkansas; his sister, Norma and her husband, Kenerd of Theodosia, Mo.; sister-in-law, Sherry Puffett of Yukon, Ok.; his mother-in-law, Florence Cameron of St. Albans, Vt.; brother-in-law, Rodney Cameron and his wife, Monica of St. Albans; sisters-in-law, Carol Dupont and her husband, Alain of St. Albans, Bea Coon and her husband, Gregory of Swanton, Sandra Messier and her husband, Gary of West Plains, Mo.; Sherry Juaire and her husband, David of Fairfield; Merry Souza and her husband, Richard of Highgate; several aunts, nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Bill Clinton of Carroll, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne; father-in-law Alfred Cameron; and his brothers, Leland and Jerry.
