JULIA KATHERINE PRATT
Julia Katherine Pratt, 87, of Northfield, and formerly of St. Albans and Burlington, died unexpectedly at Central Vermont Hospital on Nov. 5, 2005. Born in Mexico, Maine on Nov. 20, 1917, she was the daughter of Michael and Salamenwa Shiminsky.

Julie grew up in Maine, and following her marriage to Leslie Moore Pratt in September of 1942, moved with him and the children to St. Albans, and subsequently Burlington, where he worked for Nate’s Inc. men’s clothiers. During their 57 years together, Julie and Les enjoyed dining, dancing and taking their children and grandchildren trout fishing. She enjoyed the challenge of television game shows and the fellowship of playing Bingo with friends and loved ones.

She will be remembered fondly for her cooking skills and her selfless love and care for her children and other family members. This nurture extended to her nieces and nephews, several of whom she took under her wing for extended summer visits and/or partial upbringing. She helped instill nearly all of the younger family members with an appreciation for nature and the joy and benefits of reading. Julie, with her wonderful sense of humor and enduring good spirit, touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

Julie was predeceased by her husband and four sisters; and she is survived by her daughters, Sally Michaud of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. and Lorraine Frost of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; her son, Leslie C. Pratt of Montpelier, Vt.; her niece, Katherine Evans of St. Albans, Vt.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several other nieces and nephews.

Private family services are being planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Manor, 71 Richardson St., Northfield, Vt.

MARY MADELINE BROWN
ST. ALBANS / MORRISVILLE - Mary Madeline Brown, age 78, died Thursday morning, Nov. 3, 2005, in the Genesis Elder Care Center in Morrisville. She was born in Fairfield Center, Oct. 9, 1927, daughter of the late Treffle and Mathilda (Juaire) Morin.

Her younger years were spent on the family dairy farm and later she was employed in area restaurants.

She is survived by her children: Wayne and his wife, Michelle Fordham, Ann McKenzie, Regina Dupuis and David Maxfield; her only surviving sister, M. J. Therese Paquette of St. Albans; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Paul Weaver; daughter, Marshia Ladd; brother, Bernard Morin; sisters: Bernadette Weaver, Rita Paquette and Rose Anna Morin; and her brother-in-law, Francis N. Paquette.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. There will be no public calling hours.

Interment will follow in the Morin family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

LIDA B. CAPLES
RICHFORD - Lida B. Caples, age 80, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

She was born May 10, 1925, in Montgomery, the daughter of the late Martin and Irene (Ariel) Jewett.

Lida was a resident of Richford most of her life and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. Lida was employed as a relief operator at Fonda Container for 10 years, retiring in 1977. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was also an avid Red Sox fan.

She is survived by her children: Cheryl Patterson and her husband, Stephen of Richford, Martin Caples and his wife, Kristi of Anderson, Ind., Lenna Caples and her dear friend, Brenda Smith of Hinsdale, N.H., Charles “Chuck” Caples and his wife, Lisa of Rochester, N.Y., Nancy Marston and her husband, Mark of Richford, and Kelly Sanborn and her husband, Steven of Roswell, N.M.; her grandchildren: Lori Shaw and her husband, Jeff of Bernardston, Mass., Jennifer O’Connell and her husband, Sean of Colrain, Mass., Clayton Caples and his wife, Jennifer of Greenfield, Mass., Joseph Caples of Rutland, Dana Patterson and his wife, Jennifer of Andrews AFB, Washington DC, Holly Patterson and Tonya Pearson of Enosburg Falls, Monica Collins and her husband, Steve and Travis and Heather Caples, all of Anderson, Ind., Riley and Tara Caples of Rochester, N.Y., Patrick and Christy Marston of Richford; her great-grandchildren: Kyle of Bernardston, Mass., Jocelyn, Jasmine and Nellie of Colrain, Mass., and Lydia of Greenfield, Mass.; one sister, Carolyn Grubb and her husband, George of Waterloo, Que.; one brother, Carl Jewett and his wife, Barbara of Burlington; a brother-in-law, Maurice Bogue of Warwick, R.I.; a sister-in-law, Juliette Jewett of Brattleboro; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Caples on Oct. 18, 1997; they were married on Dec. 15, 1940; one son, Roger Caples; two brothers, Martin Jewett Jr. and Samuel Jewett; and two sisters, Olive Lewis and Orlina Bogue.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, Nov. 11, 2005, at 11 at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery at a later date.

A time of visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St. Richford.

FREDERIC B. SPAULDING
CHOCOWINITY, N.C. — Mr. Frederic B. Spaulding, age 73, of Chocowinity, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Britthaven of Washington.

A memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at the Tom Breslin Community Center in Lyndonville, Vt.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 16, 2005, from the chapel of Paul Funeral Home, Washington, N.C., conducted by Elder Curtis Wilder. Per his request, Mr. Spaulding will be buried at sea.

Mr. Spaulding was born in Hopkins County, Texas on Feb. 18, 1932. He was the son of the late Roger W. Spaulding and Ruth Wheeler Spaulding. Mr. Spaulding was a machinist with Northeast Tool in Vermont and Vermont America (now Bosch Tool) in Greenville. For the past several years, he was a truck driver. Mr. Spaulding served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

Mr. Spaulding was a member of the National American Hunting Club, the National Rifleman’s Association, the Masons, the Southern Air Radio Controlled Flying Club, where he enjoyed building radio controlled airplanes as well as flying them. He loved rifle competitions, hunting, bowling, reading, boats and water sports. While living in Vermont, Mr. Spaulding was a co-founder of V.A.S.T., the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. He assisted many community members with his knowledge and experience of snow machines and boat motors.

On Oct. 24, 1998, Mr. Spaulding married the former Judith Zanfagna Nelson, previously of Newport, Vt., who survives.

Surviving with his wife are the following children from his marriage to Sarah Monahan: R. W. Spaulding and fiancée, Jamie of Lancaster, N.H., Bruce F. Spaulding (Barbara) of Lyndon, Vt., James R. Spaulding (Cheri) of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Cynthia Burrington (Douglas) of Lyndon, Vt., Cathleen Paris (Eric) of Lyndonville, Vt., Cheryl Bona (Brian) of Lyndon Corner, Vt.; a step-daughter, Lois Nelson Daniels (C.J.) of Washington; a step-son, Sgt. Joseph E. Nelson of Camp Rhamadi, Iraq and his wife, Melissa of Bakersfield, Vt.; a sister, Martha Hickey (Bill) of Cherry Creek, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and companions, Muffin the dog and Friskey the cat.

ALBINA MICLETTE GAGNE
SWANTON, Vt. / INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. - On Nov. 7, 2005, Albina (Miclette) Gagne, a resident of Windgate Nursing Home of Wilbraham, Mass. since September, 2005, went to meet her Lord and Savior. Albina was born on March 13, 1913, in Roxton Falls, Quebec, the daughter of the late Leon and Emma (Brouillard) Miclette.

She was the spouse of the late Henry Gagne, married Sept. 2, 1939, and enjoyed 43 years of life together. Albina enjoyed card playing, crafts, and traveling. She leaves a family of five children: Therese Gagne of Indian Orchard, Jeanne Marie Gagne deceased of Waterbury, Vt., Suzanne (Gagne) and husband, Reginald Mosher of Naples, Fla., Hank and wife, Lynette Gagne, Chesterfield, Ill., Gerard and wife Linda Gagne of Springfield, Mass., Julien and wife, Claudette Gagne of Davenport, Fla. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Her four sisters and four brothers predeceased her. Albina was very loving and touched many who knew her. All who knew her will dearly miss her.

The Gagne family would like to thank the nurses and all the aides at Windgate for all the care, comfort and attention given to our Mother during her residency. We are all in deep appreciation for your service to our mother.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton, Vt. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Gagne family lot in St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Albina’s memory may be made to the Ahearn Memorial Pilgrimage, 1446 28th Avenue, Astoria, N.Y. 11102-3646.

DERWOOD TRACY
RICHFORD / ST. ALBANS - Derwood Tracy, 86, went to be with the angels on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, surrounded by his family and friends at his home he made with Randy and Sheryl Jewett in Richford. He was born in Wilmington, Vt. on Feb. 27, 1919, the son of the late Edgar and Ruby (Green) Tracy.

Derwood was a very special person who was always happy, loved to dance, and enjoyed music, picnics and fishing with his brother, Donald.

Survivors include his brother, James Tracy of Tampa, Fla.; a sister and her husband, Edna and Bud Bemis of Wilmington, Vt.; his canine companion, Barkly; and several nieces and nephews and his large and loving extended family. He was predeceased by three brothers: Harold, Victor and Donald; and a sister, Goldie Tracy.

Derwood had many friends, among them were special friends, Susan Alexander and Peter Baillargeon; longtime friends at Northwest Counseling and Support Services, Kathy Brown, Marybeth Blakeney, Heather Barrette, and Mike Walker.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, where friends may call from noon until the hour of the funeral. Pastor Lyle Willey will officiate. Interment will be on Friday at 12 noon in the family lot at Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home.

LISA ANDREE LIESKE
ST. ALBANS - Lisa Andree Lieske, 58, passed away Nov. 2, 2005. The daughter of Peter and Pierrette (Dorget) Meritet, she was born Jan. 4, 1947, in the Bronx, N.Y.

She was raised in New York and met her future husband John H. Lieske, whom she married on May 18, 1968. They moved from New York to Vermont in 1997.

She will be remembered for her smile, warmth and sincerity. Her big heart and good sense of humor symbolized who she was. She treated everyone like family and was loved by everyone who knew her. Her caring and honest personality made her easy to talk to. She was always optimistic. Through tough times she stayed strong. She was a beautiful woman with hopes and dreams who will be deeply cherished and missed by her family forever.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Pierrette Meritet; husband, John Lieske; daughter, Kelly Robinson and husband, Dan; daughter, Kathy Spano and husband, Domenico; and sons, Christopher and Jonathan; grandchildren: Madison and Mitchell Robinson and Sofia and Luca Spano; brother, Michael Meritet and wife, Joanne; and brother, Bill Meritet and wife, Janine; sister-in-law, Carol Lupo and husband, Joe; nieces and nephews: Michael and Danielle Meritet, Matthew Meritet, Joey and Eddie Lupo and Susie (Lupo) McIlwaine and her husband, Ken and children, Sara and Nicholas. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins in France.

There will be no funeral services. Friends and caregivers may visit the family on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lieskes’ home. There will be a private gathering for the immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Lisa Lieske’s memory, to the ALS Chapter Northern New England, Champlain Mill, 1 Main St., Suite #13, Winooski, Vt. 05404.

Arrangements were by Brady & Levesque Funeral Home of St. Albans.

BEVERLY A. LATUCH
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Beverly A. Latuch, age 73, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 5, 2005, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lorrie and Ernie Choiniere, in Swanton, surrounded by her loving family.

Bev was born in Burlington, Oct. 9, 1932, daughter of the late Leo and Frankie Rose (Picard) Lashua. She was raised in Richmond and graduated from Richmond High School. She was employed by her sister at the Lucky Spot Restaurant and Lane Press. For 27 years before her retirement in 1999, Bev was as dispatcher for the Vermont State Police, starting in the Colchester Barracks and transferring to the St. Albans Barracks, from where she retired.

Bev was an Aircraft Control Spotter as a young girl. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Old Fellows, Queen City Lodge 1, and Beatrice Rebecca’s Chapter 60.

Her survivors include her son, Bobby Latuch and his companion, Marie of Hickory, N.C.; daughters, Lorrie and her husband, Ernie Choiniere of Swanton, Jennifer Nelson and her companion, Jim of Huntington, Gail Latuch and her companion, Doug of Enosburg; son-in-law, Jim Nelson of Milton; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and her former husband, Robert Latuch and his wife, Evelyn of Graniteville. Besides her parents, Bev was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Martell.

Friends may gather at 3 until 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, with funeral services to be held at 4 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel, 86 South Main St. and a continuation of the celebration of Beverly’s life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 100 Parah Drive, St. Albans. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Lashua family lot in Riverview Cemetery in Richmond.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 16 South Winooski Ave., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
