HOWARD F. GARDNER
GEORGIA - Funeral services for Mr. Howard F. “Red” Gardner were held Friday at 2 p.m. in Church of the Rock. Pastor Roland Ludlam officiated.
Fond memories were shared during the service and after in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Red’s favorite hymns, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” were played by musician Kathy Miner.
Attending were many relatives from Massachusetts and Vermont, many members of Church of the Rock, St. Albans City Public Works and many neighbors.
Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Ludlam, a luncheon was served, hosted by the church members in the Fellowship Hall.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
IRENE J. PRESS
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Irene Jarvis Press, age 86, died peacefully early Friday morning, Nov. 18, 2005, at her home with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in St. Albans, Feb. 18, 1919, daughter of the late Victor and Emma (Cota) Jarvis.
Irene was a receptionist and secretary and an active member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Auxiliary Unit 1. She was a past president of the Auxiliary, past Vermont Department President and the first National Junior Membership Chairperson. In the late 60s, Irene was the first female to run for the public office of St. Albans City Mayor.
Her survivors include her two sons: David C. and his wife, Sandra Hurlbut of St. Albans, Jack L. and his wife, Sarah Hurlbut of Burlington; six grandchildren and their spouses: Timothy and Lucy Hurlbut, Wendy Larose, Chad and Kim Lussier, John Hurlbut Jr., Natalie and Paul Bean, Kimberly and Matthew Parisi; great-grandchildren: Kevin, Katie and Patrick Hurlbut, Zachary and Lauren Larose, Jack, Hilary, Gavin and Noah Hurlbut, Derrick and Christopher Bean, Dominique, Francesca, Benjamin, David and Matthew Parisi III. Also, Irene leaves her sister, Doris Sullivan of St. Albans; brother, Walter and his wife, Jeannette Jarvis of St. Albans; her sister-in-law, Lucille Jarvis of St. Albans; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Press in 1961; her brothers, Andrew and Victor Jarvis.
At her request there will be no public calling hours. Funeral services will be at the convenience of her family with interment in the Jarvis family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

ERIC SCOTT HOWARD
FAIRFAX - Eric Scott Howard, 18 of Fairfax, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans due to injuries sustained following an automobile accident in Fairfax.
Eric was born May 8, 1987, in Burlington, the son of Tammy Howard and Mitchell Bunnell. He attended schools in both Milton and Fairfax.
A resident of Fairfax since 1995, an avid Patriot’s fan, Eric enjoyed partying and having a good time with his friends, which included fireworks which he loved to display. He loved country music, his dogs and gerbils and was extremely proud of the fact that he was going to be an uncle in December.
Eric is survived by his mother and father, Tammy Howard and Mitchell Bunnell of Fairfax; his grandparents, Richard and Hilda Howard of Westford; and his great-grandmother, Beryl Howard, also of Westford; his brothers and sisters, Jason Howard and Nicole of Georgia, Courtney and Christy Howard, Mitchell and Nicole Bunnell, all of Fairfax; his uncles and aunts: Richard Howard Jr. and his friend, Mark of Winooski, Christian and Sharon Howard of Fairfax, Carlene and Todd Partlow of Swanton, Debbie and Kevin Manning of South Hero, Jonathan Howard of Westford, Joan and Mark Weston of Essex, Judy and Jay Webb of Milton, Brenda and Pat McGrath of Colchester, Mark and Colleen Bunnell of Milton, Michael Bunnell of Williston, Debbie and Wayne LaCross of Milton. He also leaves several cousins.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Westford Plains Cemetery located on Plains Road in Westford.

GISELE GILBERTE ROBITAILLE
WEST SWANTON - Mrs. Gisele Gilberte Robitaille, 74, a longtime resident of the Lakewood Drive area died late Wednesday evening, Nov. 16, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington following a sudden and short illness.
Born in L’Ange Gardien, Quebec Canada she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Dormance (Vadnais) Gemme. She attended schools in Canada and on June 5, 1948, was married to Origene Philias Robitaille who predeceased her on Nov. 14, 2003.
A devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Robitaille along with her family owned and operated a dairy farm on Lakewood Drive for many years and since 1971 owned and operated Lakewood Campground on Tabors Point both in West Swanton. She was a parishioner of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church in Alburg.
Mrs. Robitaille leaves her daughter, Collette Case and her husband, Ron of West Swanton; six grandchildren: Melanie Levesque and her companion, David Lussier, Richard Levesque, Stephanie Case and Jonathan Case, all of West Swanton, Ronald Case of Florida and Amanda Case of Connecticut; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Marie Lussier of West Swanton; four sisters: Francoise Potvin and husband Marcel, Rejeanne Adam and husband Robert, Nicole Gemme and companion Andre Giroux and Madeleine Gemme and companion Clement Paquette; two brothers, Jean-Jacques Gemme and Francois Gemme, all of Quebec. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as her special guardian, Zeus.
Besides her husband Origene, Mrs. Robitaille was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Dion; and two brothers, Michel and Marcelin Gemme.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Robitaille family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday morning from 9 to 10 a.m.
HOWARD F. GARDNER
GEORGIA - Mr. Howard F. Gardner, age 72, died Monday evening, Nov. 14, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center following an extended illness, with his loving family at his bedside.
Howard was born in St. Albans, March 9, 1933, son of the late Joseph Gardner Sr. and Lillian M. (Peters) Gardner. He served in the U.S. Army and the Army National Guard and later became a transport driver, in both Vermont and Massachusetts. He was a lifetime member of the AmVets Post 29 of Fitchburg, Mass. He was a member of Church of the Rock in St. Albans and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He married Anita Dubey, Jan. 5, 1955. Besides his wife, Anita, of Georgia, he is survived by nine children and their spouses: Diane and Robert Carpenter of Carson City, Nev., Dorine and Gary Beagle of Georgia, Janice and Daniel Richard of Swanton, Linda Schwary of Reno, Nev., Robin Smith of Santa Rosa, Calif., Sherry Gardner of Georgia, Donna and Christopher Murphy of Worcester, Mass., Carolyn and Bruce Taylor of Highgate, Howard Gardner Jr. of Georgia; daughters-in-law, Gwen Boaz of Fitchburg, Mass. and Lisa Plouff of Swanton; brothers, sisters and their spouses: Gordon W. Gardner of Georgia, Betty and Charles Shortsleve of Fitchburg, Mass., Ricky and Beth Gagne of Lunenburg, Mass., Mark and Nancy Gagne of Lunenburg, Mass., Carol and John Gagne Sr. of St. Johnsbury, Carol Martin of Fitchburg, Mass.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by his two sons, Wayne and Brian; brother, Joseph Gardner Jr.; sisters-in-law, Mabel Gardner, Marie Gardner; and brother-in-law Robert Martin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Church of the Rock, Route 104, St. Albans. There will be no public calling hours. A time of sharing will follow the funeral service, in the Fellowship Hall of Church of the Rock.

CLARA MERRITT DeBOER
Clara Merritt was born in Detroit, Mich., and during her childhood her family’s life was affected by the Great Depression. She attended Webster School and Western High School, graduating first in her class in both places.
She won an Alumni Scholarship to the University of Michigan. Near the end of her second year at Michigan (April 29, 1944) she married John DeBoer, whom she had known as a fellow member of the Congregational-Disciples Guild. Following John’s graduation in 1944, the couple moved to Long Island, N.Y., where John was employed by the Grumman Aircraft Corporation as an aeronautical engineer.
Her husband changed careers and became a Congregational minister. After the family moved to Vermont in 1959, and her youngest son was in the fourth grade, she enrolled at the University of Vermont to complete her undergraduate degree. She graduated first in her class, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, with Special Honors in history. She went on to complete a M.A. in History at Vermont, and - following their move to New Jersey in 1966 - she earned a Ph.D. at Rutgers University with a dissertation in the field of Black History.
Dr. DeBoer taught American History in several New Jersey colleges, including Rutgers. Later she became the author of two books in the field of Black History: Be Jubilant My Feet and His Truth Is Marching On. In retirement she served as Church Archivist at First Congregational Church, Montclair, N.J., and in churches in Milton and Burlington, Vt.
Dr. DeBoer is survived by her husband, John C. DeBoer; children: John L. DeBoer, M.D. of Fayetteville, N.C., Dr. Katharine DeBoer of Reno, Nev., and David C. DeBoer of Fairfax, Vt.; grandsons: Kirt and Timothy Johnson, and John Scott and Todd DeBoer; and six great-granddaughters.
PAMELA SUE (GABREE) GAGNE
HIGHGATE CENTER, Vt. / BURLINGTON, Mass. - Pamela Sue (Gabree) Gagne, 49, a longtime resident of the St. Armand Road in Highgate Center died unexpectedly of natural causes Thursday evening, Nov. 10, 2005, in the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
Born in Mineral Wells, Texas on Nov. 16, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Nila (Cook) Gabree. She graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union High School with the Class of 1973 and in July of 1976, was married to Richard Gagne Sr. who survives her.
Pamela has been associated with Dunkin Donuts on First Street in Swanton Village for the past several years. In earlier years she had worked as a nursing assistant in area nursing homes and also taught religious education for St. Louis Parish in Highgate Center. She adored her grandchildren and will also be remembered for her porcelain doll collection, her love of birds, plants, flowers, trips to Maine and watching scary movies on the Science Fiction Channel.
Besides her husband Richard of Highgate Center, Pamela leaves two sons: Richard Gagne Jr. and his wife, Kristal of Highgate Center and Joey Gagne and his wife, Kelly of Highgate Falls; five grandchildren: Chris Smith, Kelsey LaFreniere, Emma Hall, Jasmine Gagne and Jada Gagne; five brothers and sisters: Raymond Gabree and his wife, Kim of Swanton, Randy Gabree of St. Albans, Tonya Gabree of Highgate Center, Tina Gabree and companion, David Gagne of Highgate Center and Heather LaPlant and her husband, George Jr. of East Highgate; her father-in-law, Rosaire Gagne and his companion, Cecile Cassavant of Highgate Center; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Arlene and John Durkee of Longs, S.C., Paul and Pauline Klassen of Pocatello, Idaho, Paul and Linda Gagne of Highgate Center, Gerald and Bonnie Gagne of Highgate Springs, Ernie and Arlene Gagne of Highgate Center and Rene and Suzette Gagne of Swanton; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Raymond and Nila (Cook) Gabree, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Rachel Gagne in 2001.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at 10 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gagne family lot in St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Pamela’s memory may be made to the Fletcher Allen Coordinated Transport, 111 Colchester Avenue, Burlington 05401; or to the American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier 05602.
NORMAN C. LANSING
Norman C. Lansing of Little York, N.Y. passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at his residence at the age of 89.
Among his survivors is a son, Richard N. Lansing of Enosburg Falls.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Lansing’s name may be directed to the Preble Congregational Church, 1953 Preble Rd., Preble, N.Y. 13141.

DERWOOD TRACY
ST. ALBANS - A funeral service for Derwood Tracy who passed away on Nov. 7, 2005, was held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with Pastor Lyle Willey of the Richford Baptist Church officiating. Music was provided by Chris Gauthier and Pad Smith from Northwest Counseling and Support Services.
In attendance were many staff, administrators and clients from Northwest Counseling and Support Services and members of the Franklin County Senior Citizens Center.
On Friday, interment took place in the family lot at Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, Vt. with the Reverend John Brigham offering Prayers of Committal.
Arrangements were by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St.
BEVERLY A. LATUCH
ST. ALBANS - Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Beverly A. Latuch were held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. William D. Simmons, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated.
Frankie Maskell shared a poem, “Remember Me.” Daughter Jenny Nelson, granddaughter Crystal Juaire and former St. Albans Barracks Commander John Edwards were among the congregation who shared fond memories, living and working with Bev.
Attending were representatives of the Vermont State Police, especially many from the Franklin and Chittenden County Barracks, V.S.P. Dispatchers, retired dispatcher and troopers and officers from all over Vermont, Franklin County Sheriff Department, St. Albans City Police Department and dispatchers, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Franklin County Home Health Agency, St. Albans Bowling Leagues, former employees of Lane Press, and many former neighbors of Bev. A continuation of the celebration of Bev’s life was held at the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, hall, until late evening.
Friday at 11 a.m. committal services were conducted by Pastor Simmons and interment followed in the Lashua family lot in Riverview Cemetery in Richmond. After this service family and friends gathered at the home of Bev’s niece, Louise and Ernest Spence, where a luncheon was served and the celebration concluded.
MARY MADELINE BROWN
ST. ALBANS / MORRISVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. M. Madeline Brown were held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Father Maurice Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church, officiated.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy interment was in the Morin family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
ALBINA MICLETTE GAGNE
SWANTON / HIGHGATE CENTER - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Joseph Gamache and John Tougas assisted as Ministers of the Altar. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Mary Jo Gillilan.
The White Funeral Pall was draped over Mrs. Gagne’s casket by her son, Gerard Gagne and his wife, Linda. The Crucifix was then placed by daughter, Therese Gagne. The Old Testament Reading was proclaimed by granddaughter, Cindy Wood and The New Testament Reading by grandson, Raymond Gagne. The Offertory Gifts were presented by daughter, Suzanne Mosher and her husband Reggie along with grandchildren, Matthew and Samantha Gagne.
Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Elite Body Boutique and Hair Salon, CY’s Printing and Laminating Service and the parish communities of Nativity and St. Louis.
Interment followed in the Gagne family lot in St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery, Highgate Center with Father Meagher reading the committal prayers.
The bearers were, grandsons, Raymond Gagne, Matthew Gagne and Ralph Wood and family friend, Reginald Marsolais.
Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon was served in the Nativity Parish Center in Swanton hosted by niece, Mrs. Jeannette Gagne.
