MARY ANN WRIGHT
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Mary Ann Wright, 74, of Carbondale, Ill., passed away at 10:05 a.m., Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at University Baptist Church, Carbondale with Rev. Sam Foskey officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call after 5 until 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Meredith funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), 51 Locust Avenue, Suite 201, New Canaan, CT 06840, or Music Mission Kiev, 286 Wilshire Blvd, Casselberry, FL 32707and will be accepted by the funeral home.
Mary was born July 14, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., to George and Mary Jane (Morrison) Burnside. She married Robert William “Bob” Wright on Oct. 6, 1951, at Dagenham, England. He precedes her in death. She is also preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Jane Burnside of Whitby, Ontario, Canada; one son, Alexander Robert “Alex” Wright of St. Albans, Vt.; one daughter, Mary Helena Wright of Carbondale; three grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine Buchan of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
In the early 1990s Mary retired from Lakeshore School Board in Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada after many years as a special education and kindergarten teacher. Mary Ann moved to Carbondale in 1996 and attended University Baptist Church, Carbondale.
M. CECILE PRIOR
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. M. Cecile Prior, age 91, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2005, at Redstone Villa. She was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Burlington, daughter of the late Alfred and Emma (Vezina) Roland.
She graduated valedictorian of the Cathedral High School, class of 1936. She married Mr. Raymond Edward Prior, Jan. 21, 1943. Mr. Prior predeceased her on March 7, 1986. She was a switchboard operator for the New England Telephone Company for 20 years, and the Central Vermont Railway. Cecile and her husband Raymond owned and operated Prior’s Trailer Park in St. Albans. She was a former member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Central Vermont Railway Association.
She is survived by her three sons, Philip Prior and his wife, Melody of Hampton, Va., Donald Prior of Orange, Mass., and Roland Prior of St. Albans; a daughter, Kathleen Yandow and her husband, Gerard of Swanton; a sister, Rita Davis of Peoria, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Thelma Paul of St. Albans and Mildred Spartichino of Salem, N.H.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Raymond, Cecile was predeceased by a son, Charles, in 1976; a grandson, Dean, in 1975; a brother, George Roland, in 1982; and a special aunt, Helen Giroux, in 1977.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow the Mass in the Prior family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

GEORGE O. BRASSIL
RICHFORD - George O. Brassil, age 37, passed away unexpectedly in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was born March 10, 1968 in Brockton, Mass., the son of Karla Noyes and the late George F. Brassil.
George had been employed as a laborer at Over & Under Pipe Company for several years. He enjoyed riding around town playing the radio loud with his daughters and laying in bed at night watching TV with his family. He loved to pick and joke but his family will remember him most for having a big heart. He was very close to his Mom; they were like best friends and especially enjoyed having supper at his Mom’s on Sunday’s. His hobbies were four-wheeling on Sunday’s, drawing, and working on sports cars, and taking anything apart that had a motor.
He is survived by his children, Laina, Sonia and Katie Brassil; his loving companion, Kathy Royea, all of Richford; his mother and her husband, Karla and Lyman Lawyer of Enosburg Falls; his maternal grandmother and her husband, Charlotte and Raymond Parent of Enosburg Falls; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Besides his father he was predeceased by his daughter, Emily Brassil; and his maternal grandfather, Donald Noyes.
We love you and you will be missed.
Funeral services were held today, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Montgomery Baptist Church. Interment was to follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.
Visiting hours were held Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.

DAN R. PFEIFFER
HIGHGATE SPRINGS - Mr. Dan R. Pfeiffer, age 49, died unexpectedly at his home Friday, Sept. 16, 2005. He was born June 28, 1956, in Concord, Mass., son of the late Douglas and Doris (Dyment) Pfeiffer. He served in the U.S. Army.
Dan was a community service activist with the Marshall Center (now Northwest Counseling and Support Services) and enjoyed assisting the mentally challenged citizens of our community. Dan also worked for a brief time in the Maintenance Department of Northwestern Medical Center. He recently was a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Dan enjoyed fishing, camping, music, electronics and radio communications.
Dan is survived by his daughter, Darlene Pfeiffer of Babylon, N.Y.; his former wife and friend, Angela Pfeiffer-Kozliwski of Highgate; his two brothers, Douglas G. Pfeiffer and his wife, Sally of West Virginia, and David Pfeiffer and his wife, Sharon of Massachusetts; a sister, Dawn Andress and her husband, Kenneth of Alabama; six nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A celebration of Dan’s life will be celebrated with a sunset visitation, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, beginning at 5 p.m., at the St. Albans Bay Park. Interment will be in the Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford, Mass. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
LEONEL J. ‘NEL’ SABOURIN
ST. ALBANS / COLCHESTER - Leonel J. "Nel" Sabourin, 72, of St. Albans, formerly of Colchester, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at home with his loving family at his side.
Nel was born in Salisbury, Vt. on Nov. 29, 1932, the son of the late Alfred and Olivine (Quenneville) Sabourin. He was educated in Shoreham and Middlebury and served with the 82nd Army Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict.
On April 11, 1953, he was married in Branchville, N.J. to Laura (Price) Sabourin, who predeceased him. He married Jacqueline Young on Dec. 20, 2002, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester where he was a parishioner for 31 years.
Nel was employed for 27 years as a Hood Milk Distributor, retiring in 1995.
He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Kairos, served in prison ministry for 18 years and was part of the Cursillo movement.
Nel enjoyed traveling with Jackie to Port Orange, Fla. for the last two winters and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie of St. Albans; a son, Michael Sabourin and his wife, Dr. Carol E. Weyland-Sabourin of Peacham, Vt.; a daughter, Theresa Conley and her husband, Jeff of Burlington; six grandchildren: Bessett James Sabourin of Chicago, Ill., Sy Michael Sabourin of Deltona, Fla., and Jared, Tyrone, Tonya and Janel Conley of Burlington; sisters, Rita Falcetti and husband, Frank of South Hadley, Mass., Theresa Michini and husband, Joe of Cummings, Ga., and Claire Carnevale of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Alderic Sabourin and wife, Del of South Burlington, Leon Sabourin and wife, Marlene of Winooski, and Edgar Sabourin and wife, Carol of Winooski; step-children, Mike and Kathy Duggan of Colchester, Chris and Teresa Carolin of San Jose, Calif., John and Windee Young of St. Albans, and Mikael Young of Enosburg; 10 step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Nel was predeceased by his sister, Evangeline "Ann" Bacher; and brothers: Edward, Leo, Hector, Paul, Joe, and Homer Sabourin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence, c/o Sr. Carmen Proulx, S.P., 47 West Spring Street, Winooski, Vt. 05404, or to the Hospice Program, Franklin County Home Health, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski.
STERLING D. WEED
A Service of Worship in Celebration of and Thanksgiving for Sterling D. Weed, who passed away on Sept. 11, 2005, was held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church with Pastor Judy Kennedy officiating. Music was by organist, Donna Costes. Special music was by members of the Constitution Brass Quintet. Words of remembrance were shared by several in attendance.
In attendance were members of Weed's Imperial Orchestra, K.J.'s Diner, King's Cove Restaurant, Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans Music Department, Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax, St. Albans City Elementary School Music Department, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, First Congregational Church, Leadbeater's Greenhouse and Garden Cuts, St. Albans Historical Society and Franklin County Museum, Westford United Church, St. Albans City Band and several of Sterling's former music associates.
Casket bearers were James Shepard, Normand Lavallee, Bernard Rivers, William Chambers, Bruce Gillilan and Admiral Warren Hamm.
Following Prayers of Committal by Pastor Kennedy, taps were played by former music students, Michael McGovern and Richard Toof. A luncheon then followed in the Fellowship Hall of the Church hosted by the First Congregational Church family.
Assisting Sterling's family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
MORTON I. KING, SR.
SWANTON - A funeral service was held for Mr. Morton I. King Sr., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel with Pastor Herman Benjamin celebrating. The organist and soloist was Mary Jo Gillilian.
Words of remembrance were offered by Mort’s granddaughter, Janet Clark. A poem was written and read by his grandson Wendell King Jr., in tribute to his grandfather. The World War II veterans flag was presented to Michael King by Ed Royer representing the veteran’s organizations.
Casket bearers were Eric Oliver, Mort Walker, Wendell King, Jr., Shawn Prior, Dale Giroux, and Greg Carpentier.
Interment followed in the King family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Delegations in attendance were from the American Legion Post 1, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 758, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1090, and the St. Albans City Elementary School.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.
LUCILLE B. MacCALLUM
The Burial Office and Holy Communion for Lucille B. MacCallum, who passed away on Sept. 14, 2005, were held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dennis E. Hayward officiating. Assisting was Deacon James Ballard. Verger was Colin Christie and Cross Bearer was Donald Fournier. Music was by organist, Donna Costes. The Holy Scripture was proclaimed by Lucille's grandson, William MacCallum. Ushers were Gloria Mapes and Richard Barnard.
In attendance was representation from the King's Daughters and Service Seekers, Montcalm Real Estate, Maple Festival Committee, Clarence Brown, Inc. Pier 10, Country Club Estate neighbors, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Bellows Free Academy Board of Trustees, Franklin Central Supervisory Union and St Albans Town Educational Center, Staff, Faculty and School Board.
Casket bearers were William MacCallum, Carlton Elliott, John MacCallum, Eric Hadd, Mark Baltzell and Scott Cookingham.
Following Prayer of Committal by Father Hayward, interment took place in the MacCallum family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. A luncheon then was hosted in the St. Luke's Parish House hosted by the St. Luke's Episcopal Parish family.
During visitation on Friday evening, Chittenden Chapter No 59, Order of Eastern Starr from Milton held their ritualistic service with Sharon Boudreau as Worthy Matron, John Hoyt Jr. as Worthy Patron, Barbara Mills Preston as Chaplain, Wendy Kilburn as Adah, Peggy Hoyt as Ruth, Phyllis Mayville as Esther, Jerri Riegler as Martha and Jane Kronoff as Electa.
Assisting Lucille's family was the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
MAURICE LEOPOLD CADIEUX
SWANTON - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father John J. Meagher, SSE was the celebrant and homilist. Joseph Gamache and John Tougas served as Ministers of the Altar. Music was provided by organist and soloist, Claire Chevalier Hungerford.
The White Funeral Pall was draped over Maurice’s casket by grandchildren, Lucas and Hannah Cadieux. The Crucifix was then placed by granddaughter, Renee Cadieux. The first reading from The Old Testament was proclaimed by family friend, Emile LaGrandeur and the second reading from The New Testament by niece, Jeanette Cadieux. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Maurice’s brother, John Cadieux and his sister, Aurora Vosburg.
Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from the Vermont Respite House, Coldwell Banker and Poquette and Bruley, Inc., The University of Vermont, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Mylan Technology, Swanton Town and Village Offices, Highgate Town Offices, Wood and Kidder, Inc., Harvest Equipment, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Swanton Village Green Apartments, Bev’s Shear Expectations, The Handy Group, Warren Fournier Home Improvement Center and Hannaford’s.
Interment followed in the Cadieux family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery with Father Meagher reading the committal prayers. Special Words of Remembrance were shared at the graveside by Maurice’s granddaughter, Hannah Cadieux and daughter-in-law, Stacey Cadieux.
The bearers were nieces, Donna Petty and Elaine Legasse and nephews, Rick Cadieux, Ron Cadieux, Walter Medor and John Viens.
Following The Prayers of Committal a Bereavement Luncheon was served at the my-T-Fine II Restaurant in Highgate Springs hosted by Mrs. Nancy Paquette and Staff.
RICHARD J. LaMARCHE
GENESEO, N.Y. / ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Richard LaMarche, 62, formerly of St. Albans, Vt., passed away unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, after a brief illness.
Dick was born in St. Albans on Oct. 11, 1942, the son of Raymond and Millie Shepard. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1961 where he was a star basketball player. After high school, he joined the United States Navy serving four years flying reconnaissance missions. He graduated from Vermont Technical College with a degree in engineering. In 1973, he married Aida Salfity in Waltham, Mass. He then moved to Geneseo, N.Y. where he was owner/operator of two McDonald’s restaurants in Geneseo and Dansville, N.Y.
Dick was very active in his communities. He belonged to and was pats president of the Kiwanis, a board member of the Village of Geneseo, a member of the VFW and the Elks Lodge of St. Augustine, Fla. Dick was an avid golfer and collector of antique cars. He enjoyed traveling, spending time by the waters of Lake Champlain, Conesus Lake and St. Augustine. He especially treasured visiting his daughters, Michelle and Erica, and being with his grandson Austin. Most of all, Dick enjoyed life and having fun with his friends. He was a member of the “Boston Bears.”
Dick is survived by his daughters, Michelle and Erica LaMarche; his grandson, Austin, all of Charleston, S.C.; his mother, Millie Shepard of St. Albans; his sisters: Rae Shepard and Diana Patenaude and husband Michael of St. Albans; his nephews and niece, Todd Labrie, Nathan and Megan Patenaude; his father-in-law, Joseph Salfity; brothers-in-law, Mark and Jim Salfity and their families of Indiana; and his dog, Onyx. He also leaves many close friends, too numerous to list.
He was predeceased by his wife, Aida; his father, Raymond Shepard; and his mother-in-law, Victoria Salfity.
Calling hours were held in Geneseo, N.Y. on Sept. 12, 2005, at the Rector-Hicks Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at later dates and will be private.
The Shepard family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dick’s very close friends, Kathy MacCracken and Ernie Stuk for their devotion and loving care in the last few months.
