EUNICE M. PATNAUDE
ST. ALBANS - Mrs. Eunice M. Patnaude, age 77, died Friday in the Fletcher Allen with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in St. Albans, Nov. 28, 1927, daughter of the late Richard and Grace (Zweeres) Silk.

An avid Red Sox fan, Eunice was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1 and honored with a lifetime membership. She was previously active with the 8 & 40, past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 758 where she was honored with a lifetime membership as well as being past senior regent of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 321 and was the chairperson of the Maple Festival Rada sales for the American Legion. She was a blood donor and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She retired as supervisor of production after 40 years with the Fonda Container Corp., where she was active with the union and after retirement still was involved with the employee paper products sales.

Sept. 4, 1976, she married Frank Patnaude. Besides her husband she is survived by her children: Gary and Kathy Marlow of Omaha, Ne., Pauline Hardy and Allen Bailey of St. Albans, Greg Marlow and Julie Greeno of Swanton, Ken and Heidi Patnaude of Milton; 11 step-children; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers: Betty and Robert Ives, Gertrude Clark all of Swanton, Juanita Benoure of St. Albans, Grace Mack of Vergennes, Merton and Sally Silk of Woodbury, Alida Reynolds of Burlington, Frank*’s twin sister, Francois Smith of Feeding Hills, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers Raleigh, Richard and Walter Silk, and stepson, Philip Patnaude.

Eunice’s family wishes to express special thanks to the medical staff of the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center and Franklin County Rehab Center. Your caring and compassion is appreciated.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be later in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. Please join the family for a gathering following the funeral at the St. Albans Elks Lodge, on Grice Brook Road.

Memorials may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403, or the American Heart Association, P. 0. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05495.

JEANETTE ASHLEY VALLEY
SWANTON - Jeanette Ashley Valley, 85, a longtime Dunning Street resident in Swanton Village, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 13, 2005, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

Born in Manchester, N.H., Aug. 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Gilberte (Chaperon) Ashley. She graduated from Burlington High School in the Class of 1939, and on Aug. 31, 1944, was married to Alfred Valley, who survives her.

Jeanette’s interests included serving as president of the former Kerbs Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, antique collecting and flower gardening. She was particularly proud of having planted her hanging baskets and urns while she was still wearing a brace for a broken arm. An active and devoted parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary she taught in the religious education program and served in the former Mothers Club. She will especially be remembered for the many years that she and her husband Alfred planted and cared for the beautiful flowers gardens surrounding the parish property.

In addition to her husband Alfred of 61 years, Jeanette leaves one daughter, Michelle Tenaglia and her husband LT. Col. (Ret) Ronald Tenaglia of Fairborn, Ohio; granddaughter, Celeste Carroll and her husband Aaron Carroll of Venice, Fla.; great-grandsons, Zachary and Noah Carroll; also grandson, LT. Col. John Tenaglia and his wife Holly; great-grandsons, Dustin, Lloyd and Samuel Tenaglia all of Chantilly, Va. and grandson, Christopher Tenaglia and his wife Sarah of Sarasota, Fla. Survivors also include two sisters-in-law, Margaret Valley and Sister Rita Vallee, RHSJ both of Winooski.

She was predeceased by her son, David Valley in 2002, as well as a sister, Renee Roberts, and brothers, Paul, John and David Ashley.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at 12 noon from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Valley family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.

At Mrs. Valley’s request there will be no public calling hours. The family request that flowers please be omitted and gifts in her memory may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

DONNA M. (GAUDETTE) HILL
MILTON - Donna M. (Gaudette) Hill, 43, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family.

Donna was born in Burlington on July 20, 1962, the daughter of Norris and Lena (Dubie) Gaudette.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Hill Sr.; their children, Jerry Hill Jr., Calvin Hill and his friend Julie, all of Milton, and Shannon Gaudette and her husband Kerry of Georgia. She is survived by three grandchildren: Nicholas, Hunter and Cassy. She is also survived by her mother, Lena Gaudette; and brothers and sisters, Billy Gaudette and wife, Karen Derouchie, Lucille Gaudette and friend, Danny Ducharme, Joe Gaudette and friend, Jessica Bessette, Bob Gaudette and wife, Tammy, Donald Gaudette and friend, Laurie Barratt and Louisa Gaudette and friend, Kevin Hill; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her dear friend and sister-in-law, Ellen Gaudette; a very special nephew, Dan Hill; and a very dear friend, Donna Williams. She is also survived by her half sisters, Gloria Banach, Carol Jaques, Georgia Gaudette and Esther Fox, all of Massachusetts; and by her half brother, Bernard Gaudette and his wife, Elaine of Bethel, Vt. She was predeceased by a daughter, Heidi Marie; her father, Norris; and by a half brother, Norris Gaudette.

A special thanks to the VNA and the Milton Family Practice and the Oncology Dept. at UHC.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Billy Gaudette, P.O. Box 713, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the Funeral.

Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

BEATRICE C. MOSSEY
Beatrice C. Mossey, 78, of Airport Rd., Ft. Plain, N.Y., passed away with her family by her side early Thursday morning at her home after a short illness.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1927, in St. Albans, Vt. She was the daughter of Frank and Nina Streeter Mossey. Beatrice was educated in Vermont where she attended Holy Angels Elementary School and graduated from Bellows Free Academy. She moved to Ft. Plain from Vermont in 1967.

Beatrice was employed in Vermont in the business office at St. Albans Hospital for many years until moving to Ft. Plain where she worked as a bookkeeper for the family businesses, Napa Auto Parts and later Rickard-Barker Oil Co. both of Ft. Plain until her retirement in 1994.

Beatrice was a communicant of the St. James Roman Catholic Church in Ft. Plain and was a homemaker, and loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her four children: Terry Allard and her husband, Peter of Swanton, Vt., Pamela Przybylo and her husband, Joseph of Tribes Hill, Michael Lawson of Ft. Plain, N.Y.; and Valerie Lawson of Ft. Plain, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Stephanie Hurley and her husband, Brendan of Milton, Vt., Christopher Allard and his wife, Jennifer of Milton, Vt., Patrick Allard of Colchester, Vt., Carolyn Przybylo of Albany, Ryan, Cody and Heather Lawson all of Ft. Plain, and Victoria Stella of Ft. Plain; and seven great-grandchildren: Corey, Danielle, Casey, and Brianna Hurley, and Shelby, Colby and Bailey Allard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at the St. James Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid St., Ft. Plain, N.Y. with the Rev. Kenneth Swain celebrant. There will be no calling hours. The burial will take place on Monday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Albans, Vt. with the Rev. Maurice Roy officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Beatrice’s memory to St. James Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid St., Ft. Plain, N.Y. 13339.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, N.Y. 13317.

EARL BENJAMIN SMITH
SWANTON - Earl Benjamin Smith, 85, a longtime resident of Spring Street in Swanton Village, died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 9, 2005, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Detroit, Mich. on Aug. 22, 1919, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Charlotte (Ledoux) Smith. He graduated from Burlington High School on June 18, 1937, and on June 21, 1941, was married to the former Leona Ann “Lee” Smith who predeceased him on Sept. 15, 2004, after 63 years of marriage. Prior to moving to Swanton in 1945, Earl and Lee resided in South Burlington, Vt. and Glens Falls, N.Y.

Earl was associated with the former Fonda Container for 32 years but Aviation was his main thrust in life. Raised in South Burlington near the Burlington International Airport, he became a pilot in his teen years and held a commercial pilot and flight instructors license. In 1940 he became licensed in Aircraft and Aircraft Engine Maintenance. Since living in Swanton he regularly maintained and flew planes out of the Franklin County Airport and in 1995 received the Federal Aviation Administrations Charles Taylor Master Mechanic’s Award. He was a longtime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Earl leaves his son, Dennis J. Smith and his wife, Shueh Ling of Georgia; his daughter, Mary D. Scandore and her husband, Michael J. of North Hero; five grandchildren: Tara Lynn, Tyrel and Chanan Smith and Michael Eric and Casey Marie Scandore; two brothers, George Smith and his wife, Ann of South Burlington and Robert Smith and his wife, Connie of Florida; a sister, Charlotte Ripley and her husband, Michael of Stratford, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Earl was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Arthur and Donald Smith.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Smith family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday evening, Aug. 11, 2005, from 7 to 9 p.m.

JOYCE KUBAS
ST. ALBANS TOWN - Mrs. Joyce Laughlin Kubas, age 80, died Tuesday evening in the Northwestern Medical Center. Joyce was born in Georgia, Aug. 5, 1925, daughter of the late Forrest and Dorothy (Raymond) Laughlin.

Following high school she served in the war effort, in 1945, for the Military Intelligence Division of the War Department, in Virginia. After returning home she was a candy packer at Leader Evaporator, a sales lady in the yard goods department of M. H. Fishman Store and later was employed in the housekeeping department of Kerbs Memorial Hospital. Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and home crafts (in her younger years) and shopping. She was most happy when she had her family and friends around her.

Feb. 9, 1946, she married Joseph Kubas. Besides her husband of over 59 years, Joyce is survived by their daughter, Diane and her husband, Thomas Mahoney of Fairfield; two grandchildren: Erin and her husband, Casey Tatro of Colchester and Katie Mahoney of Fairfield; her sister, Helen Maynard of Burlington; sisters-in-law: Lucy Laughlin of Ohio and Liz Laughlin of Long Beach, Ms.; a special “son, ” John LaBarge of Orange City, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her son, Dana Kubas on Jan. 21, 1970; her granddaughter, Tammy Kubas on June 13, 1969; and by her five brothers: Dale, Lyle, Robert, Tan and Walter Laughlin.

Joyce and her family were especially grateful to her caregivers and special friends from the Franklin County Home Health Office. They were all so kind and concerned with the Kubas family well-being.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

LUCILLE P. MILLS, R.N.
ST. ALBANS - Lucille P. Mills, R.N., 82, a longtime resident of Beverly Court, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, June 20, 2005, at her home. She was born in Ste. Anne, Quebec, Canada on Nov. 26, 1922, the daughter of the late Dorile and Eva (Beauregard) Pigeon. She was the widow of Willard H. Mills who died March 8, 2000.

Lucy was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Burlington. She had been a nurse in St. Albans Hospitals and was a member of the DAV auxiliary. She was an avid tennis player.

Survivors include her son, Thomas O. Mills and his wife, Julie, of Silver Spring, Md.; her daughter, Deborah M. McKim and her husband, Gerry of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; two sisters, Maryann P. Zeno of Fairfax and Theresa P. Reynolds of Essex; six grandchildren: Chris Powell of Land O' Lakes Fla., J.P. Powell of Long Beach, Calif., Lauren Mills of New York, N.Y. and Brenden Mills of Silver Springs, Md., Sean and Shane McKim of Tampa, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at 3 p.m. at the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery, South Main Street, St. Albans. A reception in St. Paul's United Methodist Church in St. Albans will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

REV. ROMEO A. TRAHAN, S.S.E.
BURLINGTON - Rev. Romeo A. Trahan, S.S.E., 86, died at the Birchwood Nursing Home in Burlington on Aug. 9, 2005. Father Trahan, son of Euclide and Antoinette (Remillard) Trahan, was born on Jan. 17, 1919, in Swanton. He was a professed member of the Society of St. Edmund for nearly 64 years and an Edmundite priest for over 60 years.

Father Trahan completed studies in 1940 at College de St. Jean in St. Jean, Quebec and in 1954 cum laude at Institute of Medieval Studies in Montreal, Quebec. He also pursued advanced studies at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.

During his life he was described as “a man of deep faith, wit and wisdom.” Father Trahan was an educator who taught Latin, Greek, Apologetics, French and Theology at St. Michael’s College in Colchester; French, Latin, Greek and Religion at St. Edmund’s Juniorate in Swanton; and Scripture and Dogma at St. Edmund’s Seminary in Burlington. During his 47 years of active ministry, he also provided pastoral care at St. Catherine Parish in Elizabeth City, N.C., St. Anastase Parish in Greenfield Park, Quebec, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Residence in Rosemere, Quebec, and Nativity Parish in Swanton.

In addition to his apostolic assignments, Father Trahan served the Edmundite Community as Director of the Canadian apostolate and Superior of the Vermont Pastoral Region. While he retired in 1992, Father Trahan remained active with self-directed spiritual and intellectual pursuits plus his ongoing hobby - the genealogy of the Trahan family coupled with researching and compiling the history of the places associated with his ancestors.

Besides his brothers in religion, Father Trahan is survived by numerous relatives who are listed in an extensive history entitled “A Vermont Trahan Family: History and Genealogy, Acadian and Quebec Roots” that he was completing at the time of his death.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, at LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, Winooski, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Wake service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Church of the Nativity in Swanton at 10 a.m. with visitation in the Church beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery in Swanton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Society of St. Edmund, 270 Winooski Park, Colchester, Vt. 05439.
