WINIFRED J. DEGOOSH
FRANKLIN - Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 29, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Franklin with Pastor Jason McConnell of the Franklin United Church officiating.
Following the committal service a gathering will be held in the Felco Room at the Franklin Homestead.
Spears Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
ISABEL M. COLLINS
SWANTON - Isabel M. Collins, 91, native Vermonter and mother of five, died on Jan. 24, 2005, at her home in Swanton in the care of her youngest daughter, Colleen Collins Mumley. She had been failing since experiencing two strokes last autumn.
Isabel M. Collins was born into the family of Elizabeth and James Collins of North Hero on Jan. 10 in 1914. She married Marvin McBride of South Hero in 1935 and gave birth to her first child, Charlotte, within days of Marvin's death of a systemic infection in a Burlington hospital. She married Lyle A. Collins of St. Albans, a civil engineer, in October 1939. For six years Isabel and Lyle and their expanding family lived in a travel trailer they towed behind a car to engineering projects in New York, Virginia, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. While the family was living in Texas, and she was pregnant for her fourth child, Isabel took flying lessons and obtained her pilot's license. In 1945 Isabel and Lyle returned to Vermont with Charlotte, Michael, Vivian and James and settled permanently in the Maquam farmhouse, where Isabel would give birth to their last child, Colleen.
Isabel was a resourceful, no-nonsense mother who was self-taught in a variety of disciplines such as horticulture and food preservation, tailoring, animal husbandry, and arts and crafts. She cared for the family, house and gardens on her own for periods when Lyle worked engineering jobs in South America and Virginia. Often all of the meats and vegetables as well as the pickles and ketchup at her dinners came from her farm and garden.
Lyle Collins died in 1996 at the Swanton farmhouse. Isabel is survived by a sister, Vida Griswold of Grand Isle; two brothers, Marshall, of Valatie, N.Y. and Patrick of South Hero; five children: Charlotte Engelhard of Stratford, Conn., Michael Collins of Barrington Hills, Ill., Vivian Hays of Bellingham, Wash., James Collins of Brimfield, Mass., and Colleen Mumley of Swanton; and by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kathleen Marie Mumley, in 1976.
Interment services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the family lot in the St. Albans Point Cemetery on the Maquam Shore Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Franklin County Home Health Center or Franklin County Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

WINONA CLELAND TREMBLAY
ALBURG SPRINGS - Winona Cleland Tremblay, 81, a lifelong resident of the Alburg community, died early Sunday afternoon in the Haven Health Care Center in St. Albans Town.
Born at home in Alburg on Jan. 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Goodsell) Cleland. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Champlain, N.Y. and attended and graduated from the former Burlington Business College. On June 4, 1945 she was married to E. Omer Tremblay who survives her.
In earlier years Winona was employed at the former Thermal Wire Company in South Hero and also for many years at the William Doolin Company in St. Albans City. Prior to her illness she had been very active in the Alburg community and belonged to the Island in the Sun Senior Citizens, Alburg Library Association and many other civic and church organizations.
In addition to her husband of nearly 60 years, E. Omer Tremblay, Winona leaves a daughter, Joan Whitesell and her husband Ronald, all of Alburg Springs; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Andrew Tremblay and Clement Tremblay both of Alburg Springs, Philip Tremblay and his wife Sally of Colchester, Laura Tremblay of Alburg Springs, Roseanna Ouimette and Ernestine Cleland both of Alburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Winona was predeceased by three brothers: George, Robert and James Sr. Cleland.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2005, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the Tremblay family lot in Riverside Cemetery Swanton. There will be no public calling hours.

MABEL L. LAGROW
SHELDON - Mrs. Mabel L. Lagrow, 95, a longtime area resident, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Copley Manor Nursing Home in Morristown. She was born in Westford on April 27, 1910, the daughter of the late Edward and Rilla (Naylor) Pecor. On Aug. 10, 1925, in Montgomery, she was married to Gordon Lagrow who died on April 27, 1962.
She was employed for several years at Hurlburt's Nursing Home in St. Albans.
Survivors include two daughters: Arlene Nichols of Sheldon with whom Mabel made her home, and Patricia Noel and her husband Albert of Portland, Ore.; two daughters-in-law: Jessie Lagrow of St. Albans and Linda Lagrow of Aiken, S.C.; a son-in-law, Paul Eno of Windsor Locks, Conn.; 10 grandchildren: Mike, Jason, Tara, Mark, Gordon, Carolee, Susan, Karen, Leanne, and Christopher; and several great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Gordon, she was predeceased by a daughter, Rita Eno in 1988; four sons: Reginald in 1989, Wesley in 1994, Louis in 2004, and Leslie in 2004; a brother, Clarence Pecor in 1959; and a daughter-in-law, Nellie Lagrow in 2004.
At her request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in the family lot at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Sheldon Springs.

MARY LOUISE (FITZGERALD) McGREGOR
BURLINGTON - Mary Louise (Fitzgerald) McGregor, 64, died unexpectedly Friday, May 20, 2005. Mary was born on May 30, 1940, in Colchester, the daughter of Charles and Madeline (Tatro) Fitzgerald. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1958 and attended the Fanny Allen School of Nursing.
She was currently residing at Fern Hill, where she was president of Fern Hill Associates. Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society. On Sept. 23, 1969, she married the love of her life, Senator Thomas McGregor who predeceased her in January of 1991.
This amazing woman was a very devoted mother and grandmother, and best friend. Grammy was affectionately known as Num Nums and Bubbles to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Debbie Sheridan and her husband Todd of Colchester, Brigit McGregor of Arizona, Shannon Baumgartner and her husband Sean of Ohio; by Tom’s children: Stephanie Mitchell and her husband John of Arizona, Tom McGregor and his wife Star of Grand Isle, Michael McGregor and his wife Cindy of Colchester, Todd McGregor and his wife Patsy, serving as missionaries in Kenya, and Tim McGregor and his wife Lisa of New Orleans. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; her brothers: Jim Fitzgerald and his wife Ruth of Colchester, Hugh Fitzgerald and his wife Barbara of Colchester; her sister, Joan Gage of California; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Corine Fitzgerald and Catherine Decker.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be held today, Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
JAMES E. HAYES SR.
SOUTH BURLINGTON / ST. ALBANS - James E Hayes Sr. was called to the Lord to be reunited with his beloved wife Joyce after a short battle with cancer.
He was born July 18, 1931, son of Eugenia and Melwood Hayes. He was raised in Burlington and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1952. He served in active duty as Airman Second Class in the Vermont Air National Guard during the Korean conflict. In 1953 he joined the Burlington Police and retired from the force as a Lieutenant in 1981. He married his wonderful wife Helen (Joyce Fleury) on April 11, 1953, who predeceased him in June 2004.
He is survived by his five children and spouses: James E Hayes Jr. and LouAnn of South Burlington, Carol Lynn and David Guyette of St. Albans, Steven P. and Donna of Burlington, Jeffrey P. and Sally of Burlington and Jill Marie and Brian White of St. Albans. He is also survived by his two brothers, Paul Hayes and Roy Hayes of Colchester; three sisters: Ruth and her husband Ronald Fontaine of Vinton, Va., Jean and her husband Marcel Messier of Burlington and Dorothy Hayes Kaupin of Burlington.
He was also the wonderful grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Jimmy III and his wife Amy, Jennifer and her husband Josh Burt, Jonathan Cullen, Sean, Brenna, Connor, and McKenna Hayes, Kyle, Ryan and Cole Hayes, Michael, Cameron, and Kaitlin White; six step grandchildren: PJ, Kate, and Ali McHenry, Jason and his wife Carrie Ann Guyette, Jon David Guyette, and Carrie Lee Guyette; one step great-grandchild, Madison Guyette. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Franklin County Home Health and Doctor Peter Gunther and his staff for their support through a difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Burlington. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be held on Wednesday, May 25, with a10:30 a.m. graveside service at Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington.

BAILEY F. BAKER
COLCHESTER - Mr. Bailey F. Baker, age 67, died Sunday morning, May 22, 2005, in the Burlington Rehab and Convalescent Center. He was born in Burlington, June 9, 1937, son of the late Harrison and Jean (Miller) Baker.
He owned and operated firewood sales and wood cutting operations from his property until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed fishing for relaxation.
Dec. 31, 1986, he married Carole Boudreau. Besides his wife, Carole, of Colchester, Bailey leaves his children and their spouses: Michelle and David DuBurl II of Colchester, Monique and Fritz Haupt of Middlesex, Rosemarie and Ed White of St. Albans, Ted Baker of Rutland, Jeannie Driver of Proctor, Donald and Laurie Baker of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves Mae, his special canine companion.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel, 86 South Main St., St. Albans. There will be no public visiting hours and interment will be private, following the service.

GARY M. LANOUE
ST. ALBANS - Mr. Gary M. Lanoue, age 49, died Wednesday morning, May 18, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center, following a lengthy period of failing health, with his loving wife at his bedside.
Gary was born in St. Albans, Dec. 15, 1955, son of Anna Sequin Lanoue and the late Reginald Lanoue. He graduated from Bellows Free Academy and was employed at Wyeth Nutritionals for 18 years. For several years Gary operated a 1imousine service through the Green Mountain Limousine Company. Gary was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 1, and the B.P.O.E., Elks Lodge 1566, both in St. Albans.
Dec. 28, 1979, he married Leila Festa.
He is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Leila Lanoue of St. Albans; his mother, Anna Lanoue of St. Albans; a daughter, Laura Lanoue of Roslindale, Mass.; stepchildren, Harold Porter, Monique and her husband, Elliot Westover all of St. Albans, Meadow Marmar of Burlington; sisters and brothers and their spouses, Rodney “Skip” and Helen Lanoue of Orange City, Fla., David and Carmen Lanoue, Robert and Nancy Lanoue all of St. Albans, William and Julie Lanoue of Eustis, Fla., Debra and William French of Atlanta, Ga., Susan and Kwadwo “Koto” Adjei; five grandchildren, Sarah and Marie Porter of St. Albans, Shelby, Taylor and Chad Porter of Shelburne; aunts and uncles and their spouses, Sister Margaret Sequin, Mary Jane White, Albert and Stella Sequin, Harold and Felicia Sequin, Eugene and Mary Seguin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary was predeceased by his father, Reginald Lanoue, July 7, 2002.
Funeral services, including an Elk*s Service, will be held at 9 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel on Monday, May 23, 2005. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St. from 7 p.m. until the funeral hour on Monday evening. Interment will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Lanoue family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

SISTER FRANCIS REGINA KENDIG
HIGHGATE - Sister Francis Regina Kendig, age 76, died Wednesday afternoon, May 18, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center. Sister Kendig was born in Elizabeth, N. J., Jan. 7, 1929, daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (McShane) Kendig.
She professed her religious vows with the Sisters of Charity at Cenvent Station, N. J. in 1949. She later transferred to the Franciscans Sisters of Elizabeth. She was an elementary teacher for over 40 years in New Jersey, Vermont and several eastern coast communities. From 1954 to 1960 she served with the U. S. Navy as a petty officer. She retired in 1991.
Sister Francis wishes to acknowledge the many kindnesses shown her, especially from the Catholic Priests of Franklin County and the loving care she received from all the staff members while at Haven Health.
Sister is survived by her sister, Sister Ursula Mary Kendig, now with the Sisters of Charity in Long Bridge, N. J.; and her special close friend, Miss Elsie Lovely, with whom she made her home since her retirement; and several nieces and nephews. Sister Kendig was predeceased by her twin brother, Joseph Kendig, who died Feb. 9, 1998; her sister, Mrs. Angelo (Gertrude) Vetula; brother, Bernard Kendig in 1989; and brother, George Kendig, who died in action during World War II. She was also predeceased by a special friend Father Benedict Wolf who died April 22, 1997, in Euclid, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 23, 2005, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church in St. Albans. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 9:30 until Mass time on Monday.

DONALD OLIVER POLAND
SWANTON - Donald Oliver Poland, 72, a resident of 62 Spring St. in Swanton Village died unexpectedly late Sunday evening, Jan. 30, 2005.
Memorial Services have been scheduled for Sunday, May 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. from the new Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge Building, Tabors Point Road, West Swanton. The Honorable Ronald Kilburn will lead the services.
Immediately following the services a reception will follow at the home of Dr. Michael Corrigan, 25 Smith St., St. Albans City. All family and friends are encouraged to attend.
JAMES E. STEINHOUR
ST. ALBANS - Mr. James E. Steinhour, age 67, died Tuesday morning, May 17, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center, with his loving companion, Dolly Nolan, at his bedside. Jim was born in Springfield, June 16, 1937, son of the late Mahlon W. and Dorothy (Packard) Steinhour and was raised in the Jericho/Underhill area before settling in St. Albans.
He graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1955 where he had excelled in baseball. His last year in high school the left-handed pitcher finished the season with 133 strikeouts. He started all 10 Northern League games, pitched 85 of the 86˝ innings, allowing 73 hits, 31 walks and had a 5-5 record. From high school he signed a contract with the Brooklyn Farm Team in Dodgertown, Fla., where he held several successful seasons pitching in the Dodger Farm System Club. His career was interrupted when he entered the U. S. Army, following the Korean Conflict. Upon return to civilian life he was a produce manager for the Grand Union Store until 1981 when he changed his career to be with I.B.M. for the next 16 years. He was a member of the Baseball Minor Leagues in Florida, the B. P.O. E., Elks Lodge 1566 and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 both in St. Albans. Since his retirement he has spent his winter months in Florida, the last two years with his companion, Dolly.
Feb. 1, 1958, he married Nancy Rae Letourneau. After 42 years of marriage Nancy died Jan. 1, 2001.
James is survived by his special friend, Dorothy “Dolly” Nolan of St. Albans; two sisters-in-law Ruth and her husband Gerald Villemaire of Burlington, Gail Wyman of Marion, N. C.; an aunt, Ardelle Wells of Burlington; uncle, Arthur Packard of Jericho; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his mother on April 17, 1980, and his father Jan. 6, 1997.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The Elks Lodge 1566 will hold their funeral service at 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Jericho Corner Cemetery in Jericho at 2 p.m. Friday.
