JAMES T. LONGLEY
ST. ALBANS TOWN -- James T. Longley, 74, a lifelong area resident, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Sheldon Springs, Vt. on Jan. 31, 1931, the son of the late Urbin and Lulu (Startwell) Longley. On Feb. 3, 1954, in St. Albans, James married the former Margaret Bushey who survives him.
James served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He retired in 1996 after several years associated with the Building Home Center in Milton. Throughout his working life he worked for the Wirthmore Plant, Agway, City Feed Lumber Company, Sticks and Stuff and Peerless Clothing. He was a member of the Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
James was very energetic and loved being outdoors working in his yard or hunting. His greatest enjoyment was being with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Margaret of St. Albans; his two sons, John Longley and Steven Longley and his wife, Linda, all of St. Albans; his three daughters: Sharon Weston and her husband, Rick, of Essex, Deborah Raymond and her husband, Dan, of St. Albans and Susan Longley of St. Albans; 11 grandchildren: Kari, Amanda, Mikayla, Jill, Candice, Crystal, Corey, Douglas, Bridgette, James and Jessica; his step-granddaughter, Kristina; nine great-grandchildren: Colby, Molly, Lilly, Gabriel, Savannah, Tiawana, Brayden, Chloe and Ayanna; one step-great granddaughter, Kimberly; several special nieces and nephews; a special friend, Lorraine Cooley; and many other close friends. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Alydia King.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2005, at 6 p.m. with visitation until 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

RITA C. BOUCHER
HIGHGATE CENTER -- Mrs. Rita C. Boucher, 81, a longtime Highgate Center resident, died late Saturday evening, April 16, 2005, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.
Born in Sainte Sabine, Quebec Canada on June 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Gaboriault) Robert. She attended schools in Quebec and on June 9, 1945, was married to Germain A. Boucher who predeceased her on March 25, 1990.
A longtime parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Rita was very active in the parish religious education program and also belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne. She was a member of the Highgate Home Dem Group and an avid Bingo player.
She leaves her son, Allen Boucher and his wife Shirley of Milton; two daughters, Denise Mantini and her husband Georges of Houston, Texas and Linda Vincelette of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, Herve Robert of Sherbrooke, Quebec; two sisters, Jeannine Langdeau and her husband Marcel and Lucille Cadieux all of Farnham, Quebec; three granddaughters, Shelly Boucher of East Barre, Heather Cruz and her husband Casey of Williston and Jennifer Vincelette of Reno, Nev.; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Brendan. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law and sisters–in-law: Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE of Alburg and Isle La Motte, Hertel R. Boucher of Montreal, John G. and Anita Boucher of Swanton, Paul E. and MaryEllen Boucher of Philadelphia, Pa., Gilbert A. and Gemma Boucher of Highgate Center, Claire Gabso of Burlington, Lucille and Duane Biever of Poukeepsie, N.Y., Yvette and George Mazuzan of Springfield, Va. and Mrs. Madeline Boucher of St. Albans; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Germain, Rita was predeceased by a daughter, Helen Boucher in 1954; and two brothers-in-law, Brother Laurent C. Boucher, CSC, Dr. Bernard G. Boucher and John Gabso.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 23, 2005, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Rita’s brother-in-law, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Boucher family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Thursday, April 22, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

EVELYN S. CLARK
STOWE - Evelyn S. Clark, age 90, passed away quietly, Tuesday evening, April 12, 2005, at Genesis Health Care in Morrisville with her loving family at her side.
She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Montgomery Center, the daughter of the late Rawson and Ethel (Smith) Simmons.
She was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and married Richard P. Clark on July 3, 1937. She spent most of her married life in Waltham and Sudbury, Mass. She also summered in Island Pond and a wintered in Little Torch Key, Fla. Most recently she lived at Copley Woodlands in Stowe.
Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing Bridge, any kind of game, bird watching, Brook Trout, knitting, reading and most of all being with her family.
She was a devoted mother to her children, Judith Storer of Bedford, Mass., and Richard Clark and his wife Elizabeth of Waterbury Center; Evelyn was cherished by her seven grandchildren, Jonathan Storer, Patricia Orme, James Storer, Peter Clark, Deborah Lowe, Amy Odefey, and David Storer; eight great-grandchildren, Liam Orme, Cameron Clark, Elsa Orme, Elizabeth Lowe, Hannah Clark, Katherine Evelyn Storer, Eliane Odefey, and Emily Storer. She will be dearly missed by her only surviving sister, Fern Perley of Enosburg Falls. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard Clark on August 11, 1991; a son-in-law, Robert Storer; three sisters, Nancy Retell, Ruth Sharpe, and Edith Coyne; and three brothers, Ralph, Clyde and Malcolm Simmons.
In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes she will be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be announced at a later date, which will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. There will be no visiting hours.

FLORENCE L. FIELDS
FRANKLIN - Florence L. Fields, age 93, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford with her daughter at her side.
She was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Richford, the daughter of the late John and Clara (DesGreniers) Lafontaine.
She was a resident of Franklin most of her life and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Franklin.
She is survived by her daughter, Madeline Bordeaux and her husband Frederick of Enosburg Falls; two grandchildren, Mary Preston and her husband Justin, their children, Tabitha and Orin; and Scott Pelkey and his wife Michelle their children Daniel and Katie; a foster son, Gene Savoy and his family of Maine; a step granddaughter, Shirley Wells of Westbrook, Maine; a sister, Alyce Goodell of Franklin; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Dennis Lafontaine and his family of Richford, and a special niece, Ruth Martell and her family of Swanton. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Actus Fields; two brothers, George and Raymond Lafontaine; and three sisters, Bertha Archambault, Gertrude Coward, and Irene Lavoie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Franklin with Rev. Bernard Bechard celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Franklin.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, April 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

MYRTLE M.GREENWOOD
FRANKLIN - Myrtle M. Greenwood, age 89, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.
She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Tatro) Draper.
Myrtle lived most of her life working on farms. She also worked at the Northland Hockey Stick Factory for five years retiring in 1978 at the age of 62. She loved gardening and her pets.
She is survived by her children: Janice Ploof and her husband Donald of Newport, Landon Greenwood and his wife Carol of Columbia, S.C., Richard Greenwood and his wife Linda of West Berkshire, and Paul Greenwood and his friend Nancy Lampman of Sheldon; several grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Ryan of Fairfield. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred J. Greenwood in 1992; a son, Lloyd Greenwood in 1996; five brothers: Charles, Fred, Frank, Robert and Harvey Draper; and a sister, Kitty Mitchell.
In keeping with Myrtle’s wishes she will be cremated and there will be no funeral services or visiting hours. She will be intered in the St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield.

FRANK R. ELY, SR.
NAUGATUCK, Conn. - Mr. Frank Roy Ely, Sr., 63, of 145 Cherry St., Naugatuck, Conn., died unexpectedly Friday, April 1, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine (Jerry) Ely.
Mr. Ely was born in St. Albans, Vt., June 16, 1941, a son of the late Gilbert G. Ely, Sr. and the late Madeline T. (Blow) (Ely) Klimkowsky and had been a Naugatuck resident for the past 10 years, having lived in Derby for over 26 years.
He had served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired in 2003 from the Bic Pen Co. after 34 years of service.
Besides his wife of over 40 years, he leaves one son, Frank R. Ely, Jr. of Waterbury; three daughters: Penny Rose and her husband Fred of Tennessee, Sherin Ely of Naugatuck, and Christine Tesla and her husband Joseph of Naugatuck; four grandchildren: Michael Rose, Joseph Ely, Samantha Rose and Robert Tesla; two brothers: Carl Ely of Connecticut and Gilbert Ely, Jr. of Connecticut; two sisters: Marie Boylan of Connecticut and Florence Ruth of Connecticut; one sister-in-law, Bernice Campbell of Vermont; two brothers-in-law: Albert Jerry Sr. of Connecticut and Amos Jerry Jr. of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Hink; sister-in-law, Dorcus Phillip of Vermont; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Jerry of Vermont.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 38 Grand Ave., Swanton. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Swanton.
ISABELLE S. STREIDL
CARLISLE, Pa. -- Isabelle S. Streidl, 91, formerly of Strawberry Drive, Carlisle, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in the Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community.
Born on Nov. 7, 1913, in Glenridge, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Orton and Louise (Roberts) Smiley and the widow of Edward G. Streidl. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Glenridge High School, Glenridge, N.J. She graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree from the Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts in 1935. She started her career as a Statistician clerk for the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 1936 and went on to be the Chief of the division of economic status and opportunities at the Labor Dept. for the Women’s Bureau where she completed 25 years of service.
She was the former president of the Perry Co. Neighbors Club, member of the American Association of University Women, Carlisle. She was featured by the Who’s Who of American Women. She enjoyed gardening at her home, playing bridge, sewing and knitting. Throughout her life she vacationed at her summer home, Camp Wondervue in South Alburg, Vt. She enjoyed spending her winters at her second home in Venice, Fla.
Surviving is a daughter, Nancy Streidl of Carlisle, Pa. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Streidl; and by two sisters, Doris Gough and Mary Louise Smiley.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, Pa. The funeral service will be begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday immediately following the viewing, with the Rev. Lynn Shultz officiating. Burial will be held at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

JOHN FRANCIS MCKAY, JR.
CARTER HILL, HIGHGATE CENTER -- John Francis McKay, Jr., 38, a resident of the Carter Hill Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 12, 2005.
Born in Springfield, Mass. on May 31, 1966, he was the son of John Francis and Joyce (Talcott) McKay. He attended Bellows Free Academy-St. Albans graduating with the Class of 1984. He had previously worked 12 years as a diesel mechanic for Ryder Trucks in Williston and most recently for Champlain Peterbuilt located in Champlain, N.Y. He was also self-employed as a contract fleet mechanic associated with the Total Home Center in St. Albans Town and The Superstore and Vermont Furniture Galleries in Williston. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
John leaves his fiancée, Christine Trombley of Carter Hill in Highgate Center and her son, Nicholas Garvey; his son, John McKay of Swanton; his mother, Joyce Austin and her husband Avery of Sheldon; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Talcott of Sheldon; two sisters, Carol McKay Bushey and her husband David and Marcia Paquette and her husband Paul all of Sheldon; his brother, Chester Austin, stationed with the Vermont Army National Guard in Kuwait and his wife, Carrie of Bennington; his nieces and nephews, John and Jamie Paradee, David, Megan and Devon Bushey, Donald and Sonja Paquette and Gavin and Savannah Austin.
He was predeceased by his father, John Francis McKay; his maternal grandfather, Chester Talcott; and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Josephine McKay.

STELLA M. BURT
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Stella M. Burt, age 95, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in the Northwestern Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born daughter of the late Nelson and Mabel (Way) Deso in St. Albans, March 4, 1910. She married Howard G. Burt, Sept. 4, 1927. Mr. Burt died Oct. 14, 1961.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker caring for her family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1, The Veterans Of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 758, The Ladies of St. Anne, and the Franklin County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her children: Robert Burt of Norwich, Conn., Evelyn (Mary) Guyette of St. Albans, Marjorie Morgan of Enosburgh Falls, Shirley Giroux and her husband Wilson, and Donald Burt and his wife Janet all of St. Albans; a son-in-law, John LaCoste of Bonneville, Vt.; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren; along with several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Howard; a daughter, Betty LaCoste; two grandsons, Michael Morgan and Mark Guyette; and two brothers, Nelson and Charles Deso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in the Burt family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral.

ADA INGALLS MARTIN
RICHFORD -- Ada Ingalls Martin, age 91, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Irasburg, a daughter of the late Ivan and Jennie (Wells) Ingalls.
Ada attended a one room rural school in grades 1-8 and then Orleans High School, graduating as salutatorian of the class of 1930. She received a B.S. in Education from the University of Vermont in 1934, with training for teaching in elementary as well as secondary schools and had majors in Math, English and Education.
Her teaching career started with two years in the East Peacham one-room rural school grades, 1-8 inclusive. She was the teaching principal of Irasburg Elementary School, grades 6-8, 4-H club leader, coached junior high boys’ basketball and taught square dancing.
She came to Richford in 1939 and married Reuben C. Martin on June 14, 1940. They operated Reuben’s Green House and Florist Shop from 1946 to 1960, at which time she returned to teaching.
For 27 years, she taught math at Richford High School, retiring in 1982. While at Richford, she coached girls basketball from 1939-41, was advisor to the National Honor Society for several years, coached girls softball for 12 years, organized and sponsored the Future Teachers of America at RHS for several years, was senior class advisor for 21 years, official time-keeper for all home basketball games (both boys and girls) for more than 20 years, and was advisor to RHS cheerleaders for 2 years, 1980-82.
Ada was very active in many organizations including the: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Vermont Council of Teachers of Mathematics (Director for Zone one for one term), N.E.A., V.E.A, Delta Kappa Gamma, recipient of Outstanding Math Teacher in Vermont award in 1981 given by Sigma Zi, and was an original board member of the Richford Health Center serving until 1982.
She was a member and deaconess of Richford First Baptist Church. She also served as director of the State Women’s Conference for four years, and president of the Vermont State Baptist Convention from 1981-82.
She is survived by: her children, Peter Martin and his wife Rita of Sheffield, Marianne Hall and her husband Maurice of Richford, and Paul Martin of Richford and his fiancee, Christine Maurice of Sutton, Quebec; seven grandchildren: Daniel Martin, Kristi Zola, Leyton and David Martin, Todd Rogow, Jennifer Edlund and Maegan Rogow; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Ingalls of Irasburg; four nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Reuben C. Martin, on Sept. 19, 1993; and two sisters, Lois Wingnet and Avis Hinton
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the First Baptist Church in Richford, with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Richford.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
