FLORENCE A. MAGNAN
FAIRFAX -- Mrs. Florence A. Magnan, age 88, a lifelong resident of Fairfax, died Thursday evening, March 10, 2005, at her home with her loving family at her bedside. She was born in Fairfax, March 7, 1917, daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Drinkwine) Barkyoumb.
Florence and her husband, Euclide, operated a dairy farm in Fairfax for many years. Florence’s whole life was focused on her husband, children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family, organizing many huge family gatherings.
Florence was a homemaker, had her own seat number 127, at the St. Albans Auction Gallery and was very well known by the auctioneers, for the antiques she collected and sold. Her birds were always well fed, her flower gardens well tended and her quilts all hand stitched. After her husband, Euclide, died her faithful companions were her pets “Molly” and “Boy.”
Florence is survived by her eight children and their spouses: Barbara and Lawrence Young, Donna and Roger Meunier, James Magnan all of Fairfax, Mary and George Boissoneault, John and Elaine Magnan, of St. Albans, Katherine and William Considine of Georgia, Gerald and Debra Magnan of Chateguay, N.Y., Terrance and Joanne Magnan of Sheldon; 23 grandsons, 11 granddaughters, 11 great-grandsons, 13 great-granddaughters. Her babies were the delight of her life. She also leaves two brothers and their wives, Gordon and Ramona Barkyoumb of Hopkinton, Mass., Reginald and Joyce Barkyoumb of Fairfax; a sister Lena Lavendure of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law Henry and Loretta Magnan, Laurentia Magnan, Gertrude Sweeny, Monica Lemnah and Loretta (Mrs. Lee) Magnan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of over 55 years, Euclide, on June 4, 1994; also by her granddaughter Maria Boissoneault; sisters Helen Gaboury, Eva Kosk; brothers Edward, Walter and William Barkyoumb.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, St. Albans. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be this spring in the Magnan family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

S. THOMAS HARVEY
BURLINGTON - S. Thomas Harvey, 96, a long time resident of Burlington, passed away Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Burlington Health & Rehabilitation Center with his loving wife by his side.
Tom was born May 17, 1908, in Woodbury, son of the late William and Dora (Jennings) Harvey. Following graduation from Hardwick Academy in 1927, he farmed and worked at several creameries, including Cabot Creamery. During World War II Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving with the SeaBees in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945. He attended U.V.M. College of Agriculture, graduating in 1948, and then worked 26 years for the U.S.D.A., Farmers Home Administration, “retiring” in 1973.
On June 24, 1936, in Craftsbury, Tom married Doris Jean Young, who predeceased him in 1987. He later married Anita C. Grassette on April 15, 1989 in Rutland.
He was an active member of The First Methodist Church in Burlington and for over 30 years a member of the United Church of Colchester. Other memberships included the Colchester Lions Club of which he was past President, The National Historical Railroad Society, American Legion Post 91, Vermont 251 Club and the Hardwick Historical Society.
Tom enjoyed traveling, working in his greenhouse and gardens, backyard sugaring, and, most importantly, time lovingly shared with his family and many friends. He often told stories that, of late, spanned the better part of a century. A gentle man, kind and considerate to all, with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, who worked hard and lived simply, his time with us will always be treasured.
Survivors include his wife Anita of Burlington; daughter Donna Hathaway of Shelburne and her children: Rev. Joel Stoddert, his wife Aprile, of Colchester, and Jennifer Stoddert of Shelburne; and daughter Anne Grassette-Harvey and her children: Andrew, Linley, Krista, and Caitlin Bingham all of Enosburg Falls; as well as many much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by siblings: Clayton, Elbridge, Elsie, Robert Katherine and Josephine; sons-in-law, Dorwin Stoddert and Dean Hathaway; and canine best friend, Lefty.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Colchester, Rev. Joel Stoddert officiating. Following the service, all are welcome to meet with the family at the Church Parish House. Spring burial will be held in East Craftsbury.

ROY WAINE
ST. ALBANS -- Roy Waine, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2005, after a brief illness at Fletcher Allen Health Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Falmouth, Maine on May 26, 1924, the son of the late John and Maude (Kettley) Waine.
Roy attended B.F.A. St. Albans and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 14, 1948, he was married to Jeannette Bourget, who survives him.
Roy was owner and operator of Waine's Gulf Station for 16 years and then worked at the Central Vermont Railroad as a machinist. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time with his son, Roy at his auto body shop. He also loved cooking, gardening, and family vacations in Maine.
Roy is survived by his wife Jeannette and their children: Jacqueline Parent and her husband Paul, Susan Loiselle, and Roy Waine and his wife Cathy. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Christopher, Jay and Steven Parent and his wife Julie, Jeremy Loiselle, Elizabeth, Victoria and Alex Waine; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Parent. He also leaves his sisters, Betty Lang and her husband William, and Joreen Johnson and her husband Walter; his sisters-in-law, Lucille Waine and Lillian LeMaire; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father; his brother, Paul; and his grandson, Matthew Loiselle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street. Roy's family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. Interment will take place later this spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

LOIS (ORR) WIESE-HANSEN
PIERREFONDS, QUEBEC - Lois Wiese-Hansen, age 77, passed away peacefully Monday morning, March 7, 2005, with family at her side.
A longtime resident of Highgate Springs, Lois is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Vic Hansen, and locally by her brother John Orr (Laurie Orr) of Swanton.
Lois was a devoted mother to her six daughters, Kirsten Wiese-Hansen of Pointe Claire, Quebec, Vivian Wiese-Hansen of Charlotte, N.C., Lois Wiese-Hansen (Derek Jackson) of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Lisetta Wiese-Hansen (the late John Mandarich) of Burlington, Nina Wiese-Hansen (Craig White) of Highgate Springs, and Hillary Wiese-Hansen (Alan Barkun) of Montreal, Quebec. She was the proud grandmother of Erik, Danielle, Jason, Stephanie, Taylor, Conor, Marshall, Madelaine, Genevieve, Annika, Aubrey and Christopher and great-grandmother of Finn, Eava and Shae.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Ascension of Our Lord Parish, Sherbrooke St. W., (corner of Clark) Montreal, Quebec. A time of visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Collins Clarke Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe Claire, Quebec.

DOROTHY STEWART GATES
CAMBRIDGE -- Dorothy S. Gates, 81, died peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at her home on the Gates family farm in Cambridge.
Dorothy was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Boston, Mass. to the late George E. and Carrie (Hubbard) Stewart. Upon graduation from high school in Cambridge, she studied at the Boston Machine School and volunteered as a plotter at the Boston Anti-Aircraft Center. She then worked at the Office of Price Administration until she was of age to enter military service. Dorothy served in the U.S. Coast Guard SPARS, based in Washington, D.C., from October 1944 to May 1946 when she was honorably discharged as Yeoman 2nd Class. She was very proud of her World War II military service.
Dorothy married Rex E. Gates, of Cambridge on June 14, 1946. He predeceased her in May 1998. They lived on the family dairy farm in Cambridge and raised four children. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Susan and her husband Robert Wieferich of Freeport, Maine; and her three sons and their families, Mark and his wife, Brigid, their daughter, Hanna, of Cambridge and Mark’s daughter, Sara, of Eden Mills; David and his wife Elizabeth, their sons, Aubrey and Angus, of Cambridge, and her son Torrance of York, Pa. She also leaves her brother, George H. Stewart, of Roswell, NM; her sister, Millie Cotton, and her husband, Sam, of Winchester, Va.; her sister-in-law, Eunice Gates of Jeffersonville, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was also predeceased by a brother, Donald Stewart.
Dorothy devoted her life to her husband, her children, her grandchildren and to the family farm. She was warm, caring and supportive of her family, a gracious, intelligent woman of quiet resolve and great determination. One of her special joys was traveling each summer to Popham Beach, Maine, to walk on the beach along the ocean and listen to the foghorns from the lighthouses. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral services. A graveside ceremony will be held in the spring in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery in Cambridge, at a time to be announced, at which time full military burial honors will be accorded the World War II veteran.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all those who helped with home care, but especially to Dr. Donald Miller and the wonderful staff of Lamoille County Health & Hospice.

CHERYL S. ROCHELEAU
ST. ALBANS -- Cheryl S. Rocheleau, 75, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness with her family at her side. She was born in Sheldon, Vt. on Nov. 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Howard and Bertha (Doner) Sweet. On May 15, 1976, in St. Albans, Cheryl married Joseph "Mac" Rocheleau who predeceased her on Oct. 23, 1999.
Cheryl was a 1947 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and was employed for several years as an office manager with the former Giant's Department Store. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed her many trips with family and friends to several casinos throughout the United Sates and Canada. She was a member of the Robert E. Glidden Post 758 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, Chapter 321, St. Albans.
Survivors include her children, D. Pierre LeMay of Swanton, Pam Rocheleau and her husband, Larry of St. Albans Bay, Penny Duhamel and her husband, Bob of Swanton, Joyce Burnor and her husband, Wayne of St. Albans and Jo-Ann Cobb and her husband, Joe of Georgia; her grandchildren, Chad Rocheleau, Shawn Rocheleau and his companion, Kristy Paradis, Erica Rocheleau and her fiancé, Jesse Jarvis, Kristy and Stacey Duhamel, Shawna and Wally Steinhour, Rusty and Mary Kay Burnor, Erinn and Michael Blodgett, Maurice LeMay, Ashley Messier and his companion, Jessica Lee, Joanne and Patrick Greenslet, Gale and Travis Bonnett and Erin Cobb and her companion, Kevin Kelly; her special great-grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea and Myah Paradis, Hailey Freeman, Tucker and Stephen Burnor, Rileigh Steinhour, Devin Blodgett, and Alex and Kaela Bonnett; a special friend, Ginny Banach of St. Albans; her sister, Phyllis Commo and her husband Joe of Sun City, Ariz.; her two brothers, Graydon Sweet of Winooski and David Sweet of Florida; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerry and Millie Rocheleau of St. Albans; her brother-in-law, Roger Rocheleau of Connecticut; and her sister-in-law, Jeannne Tatro of Sheldon; and several special nieces and nephews. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband "Mac;" her sister, Arlene Garrett; her stepson, David Rocheleau; her sister-in-law, Estel Rocheleau; and her brother-in-law, Wally Tatro.
Cheryl's family would like to thank Dr. John Nicholson and his staff and the staff of the Northwestern Medical Center for the wonderful care and compassion she received during her illness.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family from the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. Interment will be later this spring in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

ROBERT G. BARRETT
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Robert G. Barrett, age 82, died Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Center following an extended illness. He was born in St. Albans, Nov. 3, 1922, son of the late Vilous D. and Dora (Bean) Barrett.
Robert served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Northern Solomons, New Guinea, Guadacanal and Luzon before his transfer to the Vermont National Guard, 172nd Armor Battalion, in St. Albans. He was discharged from the Guard Unit in 1966. He was employed at the Central Vermont Railway for many years and for six years was with the Wirthmore Feed Company.
Robert was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Green Mountain Post 1 of the American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post 758 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His favorite pastime was walking.
Aug. 20, 1955, he married Mary Jane Chevrier. Besides his wife of over 49 years, he is survived by his sisters Rita and her husband Maynard Gosselin, and Marie Pare of St. Albans; granddaughters, Valerie Chagnon of Swanton, and Stephanie LeClair of Fairfax. Also, by several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter Sylvia Mossey Therrien; grandson Arnold Therrien; sisters Doris Kaszuba, Blanche Gauthier, Kathleen Gauthier, Judy Barrett; and his brother Raymond Barrett.

ARTHUR F. PELOQUIN
ENOSBURG FALLS - Arthur F. Peloquin, age 79, passed away Wednesday evening, March 2, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
He was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, the son of the late Calixte and Maria (Coutuier) Peloquin.
As a young man Arthur worked construction during the development of the St. Lawrence Seaway, then at Corning Glass in Rhode Island and finally retired after being a cab driver in Montreal. He enjoyed fishing, driving, boxing and playing cards. He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Armed Forces.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Peloquin of Alburg, Louise Peloquin of Enosburg Falls, Sylvie Deuso and her husband Brian of Richford, and Nathalie Peloquin of Enosburg Falls; three grandchildren, Peter and Ashley Peloquin, and Michael Deuso; a brother, Andre Lapointe and his wife Lise of Longueuil, Quebec; one sister, Blanche LaRoux of Longueil, Quebec; two sisters-in-law, Giselle Peloquin of Trois Rivers, Quebec, and Jacqueline Peloquin of Longueil, Quebec. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite (Gingras) Peloquin; his aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Pierre Peloquin, whom had raised him from a very young age; two brothers, Lionel and O’honore Peloquin; and a sister, Theresa Cloutier.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning, March 7, 2005, at 11 at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be later this spring in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.
A time of visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.

ROBERT L. HANSON
CHARLESTOWN, N.H. -- Robert L. Hanson, age 78, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. He was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Boston, Mass., the son of the late Frederick and Olive (Murphy) Hanson.
He attended Boston Latin High School and Boston College. He was a life long photographer and an avid gardener.
On Jan. 6, 1960, he married Audrey J. (Fletcher) McAllister, who survives him. He is also survived by six stepchildren, Judy Allen of No. Walpole, N.H., Gwen Jones of California, Md., Carl McAllister of Sandown, N.H., Jean Letnow of Richfield Springs, N.Y., Sandi Casey of Jupiter, Fla., and Steve McAllister of Annapolis, Md. He also has 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held this spring in the Richford Center Cemetery, Richford, Vt. at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
