CLENTON R. STANLEY
PLAINFIELD, N.H. - Clenton R. Stanley, 84, died Friday at his home in Plainfield.
He was born July 19, 1920, in Berkshire, Vt., a son of W. Ray and Lila E. (Gross) Stanley. He graduated from high school in Enosburg Falls in 1939. He was married to Alyce Beatty of Bakersfield and they were later divorced.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. He began working for Wirthmore Feeds in 1910 and continued with them after serving in World War II until 1967 when he went to work for Allied Mills. He married Evelyn G. (Preston) Pallmerine May 6, 1967, in North Hartland. He purchased the store he called West Lebanon Supply in West Lebanon, N.H. in 1970, which he operated until selling to his brother Allison in 1984. Mrs. Stanley died June 3, 2001.
Mr. Stanley was a devoted husband who was loved by all. After his retirement he enjoyed working on his yard and on the woods around his home.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Gaylord E. Stanley; a sister, Thelma S. Gareis; and a stepson, Stephen H. Pallmerine.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie S. Oddy of St. Albans, Vt.; two stepdaughters, Ann P. Hamilton of Lebanon, N.H. and Kay P. Clark of White River Junction; four stepsons, Robert Beatty of Florida, Richard Stanley of Texas, Henry G. Pallmerine Jr. of White River Junction and Robert S. Pallmerine of Colchester, Vt.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a brother, Allison D. Stanley of St. Albans, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Junction Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of White River Junction. Burial will be in the Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder, Vt.

ASHLEE ELLEN REYNOLDS
SWANTON -- Ashlee Ellen Reynolds, 18, of Upper Ferris Street in Swanton, passed away peacefully early Tuesday evening, Jan. 18, 2005, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington with all her loving family and friends surrounding her after an 18 year battle with Cystic Fibrosis.
Born in Burlington on June 8, 1986, she was the daughter of Janet L. (Pelkey) Reynolds Garrison and the late Ralph E. Reynolds, Sr.
Ashlee attended the Mary S. Babcock and Missisquoi Valley Union High Schools. She was very involved in the Martial Arts under Mr. Karabelis of St. Albans where she earned her high green belt with honors. She was a member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont as well as the Abenaki Dance Youth Group and served as a Matre D for All Star Wrestling in St. Albans.
Ashlee loved ice skating, fishing, bead work and working with children at the Mary S. Babcock School. She also enjoyed going for walks in the woods. Ashlee really loved life and all it had to offer. She loved and cared for animals. She will be remembered for her caring of people and the happiness she brought to everyone’s life. She will always be loved and cherished by everyone that she embraced.
Ashlee leaves her mother, Janet Garrison and step-father, Raymond Garrison, Jr. of Swanton; her sister, Krystal (Reynolds) Walker and nephew, Joey Daniel Partlow of Swanton; sister, Arlene Gagne and husband Ernie of Highgate Center; three brothers, Lynward Reynolds of Swanton, Michael Messier of Highgate Falls and Ralph Messier of Oklahoma; a step-grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Strong of Highgate Falls; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins on the Reynolds, Pelkey and Garrison side.
She was predeceased by her father Ralph Reynolds, Sr. in 1998; a dear cousin, Gina (Hakey) Pilbin of Swanton in 1992; an uncle Roland Sherman of East Highgate in 1989; and maternal grandparents, Foster and Thelma Pelkey of Highgate Falls.
“For my dearest daughter Ashlee, Mom had 18 years of the joy and happiness you brought to me. I know that you are in the arms of your Dad with no more pain, suffering or treatments. “Rest in Peace” my darling daughter in your Daddy’s arms. Until we meet in heaven. I LOVE YOU!! MOM”

Funeral Services will be held Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at 1 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Jeff Benay, Vermont Commissioner of Native American Affairs, will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery in Highgate Falls.
Following the Prayers of Committal a bereavement luncheon will be served at the Abenaki Tribal Headquarters located at 100 Grand Ave., Swanton Village. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 12 noon until the hour of the service.

JANET K. LEDUC
ST. ALBANS -- Janet K. LeDuc, 80, a lifelong resident of St. Albans, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born in St. Albans, Dec. 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Charles and Maggie (Gillespie) Kenyon. On Oct. 6, 1945, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church Rectory, she married Elmer "Bob" LeDuc, who survives her.
Janet was employed by the city of St. Albans Police Department for 20 years retiring in 1985 after several years as executive secretary to the Chief of Police. She was a former member of Welden Chapter 79, Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and a volunteer for "Ladies First" breast cancer support group. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Northwestern Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, "Bob" of St. Albans; two sons, David LeDuc and his wife, Nancy of Newton, N.H. and Arthur LeDuc and his wife, Judith of St. Albans; a daughter, Margaret Easterling and her husband, Kenneth of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Herbert Kenyon of Swanton; three grandchildren, Suzanne Gibson, Michael LeDuc and Aimee Whipple; a great-granddaughter, Diana Gibson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Heald, who passed away on Feb. 7, 1995.
Janet's family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. A Rosary Service and Vigil for the Deceased will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Father John J. Meagher, SSE, Pastor of St. Louis Church in Highgate. Interment will be later this spring in the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate.

ROLAND HERMAN BLAIR
ALBURG -- Roland Herman Blair, 61, of Sowles Street in Alburg Village, passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 19, 2005, after a long illness with his loving family at his side.
Born in Alburg, Dec. 11, 1943, he was the son of the late Herman and Mary (Sabre) Blair. He attended Alburg schools and on Oct. 9, 1987, was married to the former Diane LaFlam, who survives him.
Roland worked for the Town of Alburg Highway Department for 27 years. He was an officer and active member of the Alburg Rod and Gun Club for 39 years. He enjoyed playing 500 and spending time with his grandchildren especially at the Rod and Gun Club Fishing Derbies.
He leaves behind his wife, Diane Blair of Alburg; four daughters and their husbands, Donna and Edward Polk of Alburg, Candy and John Koss of Isle La Motte, Tammi and J.P. Ladd of Alburg and Jodie and Steve Paquette of North Hero; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother, Vercile Blair and his wife Barbara of Alburg; four sisters, Lucille and her husband Orvil Price of Bellflower, Calif., Mildred Bleichroth of Caty, Texas, Blanche Bedard of Buffalo, N.Y. and Mary Lou Champagne and a brother-in-law, Arthur Nilges of Ceridots, Calif. He also leaves his close friend who was like a brother, Vaughn Bourgeois, as well as his constant companion, Sadie.
In addition to his parents Roland was predeceased by a son, Daryl Delisle; a brother, Vernon “Mike” Blair; and two sisters, Kathy and Viola.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery. Friends may call at funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

KATHRYN GROTH
WEST SWANTON -- Mrs. Kathryn Groth, 83, died early Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, 2005, in the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans Town.
Born in Queens, New York City she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sophia (Mijchajhio) Bilous. She attended schools in the Queensboro area and on Feb. 25, 1939, was married to Henry Groth who predeceased her, Aug. 27, 1980.
Most of her married life was spent living in Ocean Side located on Long Island in New York where she was associated for many years in sales with the former Abraham and Strauss Retail Clothing Stores. Since 1981 she has made her home with her brother John Bilous in Weeki Wachi, Fla. John predeceased her in October of 2004, which prompted her move to Vermont.
Kathryn leaves her son, Henry Groth and his wife Gloria of Lakewood Drive in West Swanton, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Groth of Spring Hill, Fla.; five grandchildren, Sally Ann Sitro, Christopher Groth, Jo Jo Groth, Michelle Zito and Loriel Ferrer; six great-grandchildren, Addie Mae, Danielle, Jami, Jacob, Julia and Jonathon.
Besides her parents and husband, Kathryn was predeceased by a son, Joseph Groth in 1998; a brother John Bilous in 2004; and two sisters, Ann Bilous and Mary Zang.
At Kathryn’s request there will be no local funeral services or calling hours. Interment will take place in the Groth family lot in Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, N.Y.

THERESA IRENE ZELE
GEORGIA, Vt. / TORRINGTON, Conn. -- Theresa Irene Zele, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Redstone Villa Nursing Facility surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Baltimore, Md. on Oct. 14, 1915, the daughter of Edward and C. (Schmidth) Flugrad. Theresa was married to Joseph H. Zele who predeceased her in 1983.
Theresa retired in 1987 after 20 years as innkeeper for The Terry Lodge in Isle LaMotte, Vt. She was a member of the Ascension Church in Georgia, Vt.
Survivors include her two daughters, Judi (Zele) Jewell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Gloria (Zele) Garger and husband, Floyd, of Georgia, Vt.; a brother, Edward Flugrad of Fords, N.J.; her grandchildren, Deirdra Langford, Rob Zele, Theresa Tamasi and her husband, Paul, Debbie Buck, Doug Jewell, Dan Jewell and his wife, Connie, and Dusty Jewel and his wife, Tita; her great-grandchildren, Dwane Gladhill, Kendra and Ryan Buck, Kalvyn Lynn and Skylar Lynn Langford and Joseph and Frank Tamasi. Besides her husband, Joseph, she was predeceased by a son, Joseph R. Zele; a sister Marge Morrissey of Torrington, Conn.; and a nephew, Harold Morrissey.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at 9 a.m. from St. Francis Church in Torrington, Conn. Interment will follow in the Old St. Francis Cemetery in Torrington. It was Theresa's wish that there will be no visitation.

PHYLLIS WOOD MEURLIN
GEORGIA / ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Phyllis Wood Meurlin, 79, a 38 year resident of the Washington, DC area, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at her home in Alexandria following a 27 year battle with cancer. She was born in Burlington, Vt. on Oct. 27, 1925 and raised in Essex Junction.
Mrs. Meurlin received a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from Russell Sage University in Troy, N.Y. and practiced in that field in Vermont and New Hampshire in the late 1940's and 1950's. She enjoyed tours overseas with her husband, Col. Neil Meurlin at Air Force Bases in Italy, Turkey and Libya, as well as numerous stateside tours including two tours in the Washington area.
In 1973, Mrs. Meurlin was a subject in a Georgetown University study on the genetic predisposition to breast cancer of women whose mothers has died from the disease. In the 27 years since her initial fight with breast cancer, Mrs. Meurlin was also treated for eight bouts of cancer including ovarian and cervical cancer, as well as a recurrence of breast cancer. In response to the Chernobyl, Russia nuclear accident of 1986, Mrs. Meurlin volunteered to be a subject in a study on how radiation affects the human body due to the intense amount of radiation received during her treatments. She was a longtime member of the breast cancer education and support group Reach to Recovery, the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church and Naomi Circle, a Bible study group. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bethany Chapter in her home State of Vermont.
In addition to her husband, Neil, Mrs. Meurlin is survived by her sons, Keith Wood Meurlin and his wife, Beth of Oak Hill, Va. and Craig Neil Meurlin and his wife, Rhonda of Grand Rapids, Mich.; her four grandchildren, Ethan Meurlin of Alexandria, Va., Tyler Meurlin of Leesburg, Va., Jeffrey Meurlin of Comstock Park, Mich. and Rebecca Kaufman and her husband, Seth of Lisle, Ill.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan, 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, Va. Graveside services and interment will be this spring in the family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery.

KATHRYN CHASE CONTI
SILVER SPRING, Md. / ST. ALBANS, Vt. -- Mrs. Kathryn Chase Conti, 88, a former resident of Bradenton, Fla. and a summer resident of St. Albans on Lake Champlain, passed away on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. She was born in Cambridge, Vt. on Nov. 29, 1916, the daughter of the late Allen A. and Katherine (Burritt) Chase. She was the widow of Reno J. Conti, who predeceased her on Nov. 13, 1997. Kathryn and Reno lived and worked in Washington, D.C. before they retired.
Kathryn was a veteran of World War II serving in the Women's Army Corps from 1944 to 1946. She started her medical career in the army and then was the advisor for staff development at the Greater Southeastern Hospital in Washington D.C. until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of WIMSA and the American Legion.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Conti of Glenwood, Md., Terri Conti of Washington, D.C., and Eleanor Conti-Parker of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband Reno, she was predeceased by a brother, James Otis Chase; and a sister, Alfreda Chase Murphy.
Funeral services and interment will be held in Vermont later this summer at a date and time to be announced.

EMMA E. L'ECUYER
WINOOSKI -- Emma E. L'Ecuyer, 83, a 21-year resident of the Courtyard Apts. in Winooski, died at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Jan. 18, (her mother's birthday) 2005.
Emma was born in Burlington on July 23, 1921, the youngest of 10 children born to the late David and Nellie (Touchette) L'Ecuyer.
In 1956, Emma was a cashier/driver for Duke and the Swingbillies. As a driver she acquired the name "Barney O'Field." It was during this time when she met her best friend Vye Weeman and husband Ollie of Contoocook, N.H. In later years, Emma was also a cashier at Raybestos in Connecticut, Grandway in South Burlington, and at Forest Hills in Winooski.
Emma loved animals, especially her cat "Smokey." She enjoyed country music, fishing, Bingo and bowling with the seniors. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 91.
Emma was a very kind and giving person who loved people. Her great sense of humor blessed all her caregivers.
Emma is survived by her sister Evelyn Yandow; nieces, Barbara Pruschki, Patricia Dever, Corrine Myers, Laura Johnson, Sharon Brigham, and Deborah Brodeur; nephews, John Sears and Frank Sears; and several great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Kathryn L'Ecuyer, Loretta Meunier and Martha Hall; five brothers, Clement, Clayton, Howard, Donald and Alton L'Ecuyer; and by two special nieces, Barbara DePaul and Mary Crowley.
The family of Emma would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room at Northwestern Medical Center, the staff at Haven Health Center in St. Albans, all the doctors and nurses, the Visiting Nurse Association, and cousin Gary Longe for all the care and kindness given to Emma.
Funeral services will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
