CLIFFORD A. POQUETTE

SOUTH BURLINGTON / GRAND ISLE -- Clifford A. Poquette, 87 of Dorset Street and formerly of Grand Isle, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2004, in the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.

Clifford was born May 14, 1917, in North Hero, the son of Asa and Lydia Dubuque Poquette. He was self-employed as a Dairy Farmer for several years. He later worked for the Lake Champlain Transportation Company as a deck hand. An Army Veteran he served his country during World War II.

He married Marjorie Poquette in 1939. She predeceased him on Sept. 7, 1990. In 1993 he married Mary Poquette in North Hero.

Clifford was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Isle and he also belonged to the VFW and American Legion in Alburg.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Colchester and his children, Joyce Puding and her husband, Heino of Redford, N.Y., Richard Poquette and his wife, Elaine of Grand Isle, Carol Collins and her husband Ronald of Grand Isle, Nancy Cook of Morrisville, Vt. and Virginia Perrault of Essex Junction. He leaves 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased also by his daughter, Shirley Conger on Nov. 10, 2002; his brother Kenneth; and his sisters Laura and Rose.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today (Monday), Nov. 29, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Isle. Burial followed in the Grand Isle Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Grand Isle Rescue, P.O. Box 79, Grand Isle, Vt. 05458.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Milton.

FLORENCE GEORGES

SOUTH BURLINGTON -- Florence Georges, 83, of Bayberry Lane in South Burlington, died on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at Starr Farm Nursing Center.

She was born on June 1, 1921, in Barnston, Quebec, the daughter of William and Laura Beaudin. On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Lionel Georges. Together they owned the Swanton Motel in Swanton, Vt. for over 30 years.

She is survived by her five children, Normand, Pierre, Odette, Lorraine, and Christian; her sisters, Rejeanne and Raymonde; and her eight grandchildren, Karine, Yannick, Greg, Mark, Shannon, Derek, Paul, and Alexis. She was predeceased by her husband Lionel in 1993.

Memorial services will be held in St. Jean, Quebec.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Howard Center for Human Services, 300 Flynn Ave., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

DESNEIGES C. ROBITAILLE

WEST SWANTON -- Mrs. Desneiges C. Robitaille passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2004, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town at the age of 72.

Born, Nov. 20, 1931, in Sanford, Maine, she was the oldest daughter of the late Gedeon and Endrena (Brouillard) LaRoche. She attended Sainte Ignatius School in Sanford and on May 30, 1958, in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church married Leon Robitaille who survives her.

Mrs. Robitaille worked many years in The Shoe Shops until moving to Vermont in 1969. She then worked alongside her husband on several farms for many years.

Besides her husband Leon of West Swanton, she is survived by four brothers and one sister, Romeo, Edward and Donald LaRoche all of Maine, Leo LaRoche of Florida and Louise Gagne of Tennessee; two step-sisters, Juliette Chapman and Jeannine Wormwood; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews including a very special niece and caregiver, Pauline Laroche her husband Leon and family of Highgate Center.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Robitaille was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Renaud LaRoche.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center.

Mrs. Robitaille's cousin, Father Leonidas B. Laroche will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Robitaille family lot in St. Louis Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Tuesday morning from 9 until 10:30 a.m.

STEPHEN KENDRICK CROSBY

GEORGIA -- Stephen K. Crosby, 64, a resident of this area since 1974, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2004, at Haven Health Center in St. Albans. He was born in Waltham, Mass., Oct. 8, 1940, the son of the late Albert and Edith (MacArthur) Crosby. On Nov. 3, 1962, he married Betty Maher in Waltham, Mass.

Stephen was a self-employed finish carpenter and cabinet maker. He also worked at General Electric for five years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a steamboat enthusiast. He raised and hunted with Redbone Coon Hounds and other dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty Crosby of Georgia; a son, Wayne Crosby and his wife, Christina of Hot Springs, N.C.; two daughters, Debi Crosby of Albuquerque, N.M. and Gail Rich of Anniston, AL; two sisters, Virginia Hoey of New Jersey and Claire Hetherman of Seabrook, N.H. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Darren, Lauren and Kyle Harney, Jessica and Jason Rich, and Kiana and Maia Crosby; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hatch of Waltham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

KENNETH DAVIS MORSE

RICHFORD -- Kenneth Davis Morse, age 90, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 24, 2004, at the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.

He was born April 11, 1914 in Morristown, Vt., the son of the late Henry and Eldora (Davis) Morse.

Ken was a resident of Richford most of his life where he had owned and operated a dairy farm on the Stevens Mills Slide Road and had also done carpentry work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Elnora (Beattie) Morse; a brother-in-law, Huestus Smith both of Richford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Etta (Coons) Morse on May 16, 2001; they were married on April 11, 1938. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Chauncey, Lyle and Cedric Morse; and a sister, Eliza Morse Briar.

Memorial services will be held Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Pastor Herb Shipman officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Richford Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

LOIS C. WRIGHT

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. - Funeral services for Lois C. Wright, 78, of 411 Franklin St., Ogdensburg, N.Y., will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at The Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with Reverend Nora Jerzack officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, St. Albans, Vt. Calling hours will be held this afternoon and evening (Friday) from 4 until 7 p.m. Mrs. Wright died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at her home.

Surviving are her three daughters, Kathleen and Greg Piercey of Cortland, N.Y., Priscilla E. and Dan Dupelle of Swanton, Vt., and Jane and William Chambers of Ogdensburg; a sister, Dareen Belanger of St. Albans, Vt.; three grandchildren, Jesse J. Bassarear of Swanton, Vt., Tara Dupelle of Swanton, Vt. and Jason Piercey of Washington, D.C.; and six grand-pets. She was predeceased by three brothers, Reginald, Leslie and Stewart Williamson.

She was born Aug. 29, 1926, in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Edward and Edith McFarlane Williamson. She graduated from ST. Albans High School. A marriage to Gerald W. Wright ended in divorce. Mrs. Wright worked in New York City at Anchor-Hocking Glass Company as a secretary for a period and came to Ogdensburg in 1960. She worked at The Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg for many years in the Gift Shop, retiring in 1991. She was a volunteer at The Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center and a member of The United Methodist Women's Group. Mrs. Wright enjoyed being with her family and pets.

Memorial donations can be made in her name to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley Inc., SPCA, or to The Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center.he LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski.

WILLIAM MINOR WOODING

MAQUAM SHORE, SWANTON -- Mr. William Minor Wooding, 87, a resident of this community since 1982, died late Sunday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Waterbury, Conn. on Aug. 24, 1917, he was the son of the late G. Lee and Ella Elizabeth (Asher) Wooding. He received his primary and high school education in Waterbury. Later, after attending college evenings for 13 years, while working and supporting his family, he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He began his professional career in 1941 with the American Cyanamid Co. in Stamford, Conn. During his career at Cyanamid, he was credited with 28 patents. In 1956, he became employed as a chemist with the Revlon Research Center in New York City and later served as director of Biostatistics with Carter-Wallace, Inc., and Wallace Labs in Cranbury, N.J. He retired in 1982 and became an instructor at the Stat-A-Natrix Institute in Edison, New Jersey. Bill was also the author of "Planning Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials, " and contributed over 20 articles to professional journals, as well as continuing to serve as a Biostatistics Consultant from his home in Swanton, Vt. He was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Statistical Association, American Chemical Society, Society for Clinical Trials, and the Biometric Society.

While working full time at American Cyanamid, Bill started a part time business called "Burnwood" with his best friend Moe Burnell. They repaired radios and TV's from the late 1940's to early 1950s, and also built original Burnwoods. This was all done to support his family, and at the time was quite an accomplishment by a very brilliant man. Although the business helped support his family, it also was an outlet for Bill's curiosity and life long passion for learning.

He has lived in Connecticut, New Jersey and Vermont. While living in Connecticut, he was very active in Civil Defense and was called to many disaster situations due to his HAM radio skills of over 60 years. Bill's car still bears the call plates, W2DNF. Also while living in New Jersey, he served as member, past master and organist for Princeton Lodge 38 F. & A.M.

Bill moved to Vermont in 1982 to be with his children and grandchildren. Prior to his recent illness he had been very active in Swanton's Seventy-Six Lodge 14 F. & A.M. and was responsible for the design and production of the lodge newsletter, "Trestle Board." He was also a member of The Supreme Council, 33 Degree, Ancient Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite and The Crescent Shrine of Burlington, N.J.

He was an avid reader and organist. Computers and other technology were his love. He had a very special place in his heart for his cats.

In addition to his wife Nina of 64 years, Bill leaves two daughters, Barbara Bose, her husband Bob of Maquam Shore, Swanton, and their daughter Susan and her fiancé Mike Stempek of Decatur, Ga.; Beth Wooding and her sons Eric and David Kontur of East Granby, Conn.; his brother, Robert Wooding and his wife Alma of Wolcott, Conn. and their daughter, Robin Wooding of Whitefish, Montana.

The Wooding family wishes to thank Dr. Frank J. Zoldos and his wife Judy for their care over the past years; the staff of the Northwestern Medical Center Med-Surge Unit; the management and staff of Holiday House; Missisquoi Valley Rescue; and Amcare.

A Masonic Ritualistic Service will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Worshipful Master, Neal Speer will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the hour of the services.

Following interment services, friends and family are welcome at the home of Barbara and Bob Bose, 326 Maquam Shore in Swanton.

Gifts in Bill's memory may be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, in care of Mt. Sinai Shriners #3, P.O. Box 742, Montpelier, Vt. 05601-0742.

THERESA FERLAND GALE

SHELDON SPRINGS -- Mrs. Theresa Ferland Gale, 78, died early Monday evening, Nov. 22, 2004, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Highgate Center on Aug. 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Marie Anna (Bilodeau) Ferland. She graduated from the former St. Anne's Academy in Swanton and later attended Johnson State Teachers College, graduating in the Class of 1949. On March 27, 1951, she married John Douglas Gale, who survives her.

Theresa was a teacher at both Sheldon Elementary School and the former St. Anne's Academy in Swanton. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Parish in Sheldon Springs and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 88 in Sheldon.

In addition to her husband John of Sheldon Springs, Theresa leaves her children, Paula Bennett and her husband Alan of Mascotte, Fla., JoAnn Messier and her husband Gerald of St. Albans Town, Raymond Gale and his wife Collette of Highgate, Thomas Gale and his companion Robin Kelley of Sheldon, and Patty Gale of Sheldon Springs; grandchildren, Shawn Bennett and his wife Carletta, Jeffrey Bennett, Brian Messier and his wife Nicole, Nicole Gallagher and her husband Ben, Kenneth and Jolene Menard, John and Mary Gale and Justin Gale; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Messier. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Fabien Ferland and his wife Rita of Georgia, Sister Cecile Ferland of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Buffalo, Cecile Laroche and her husband Henry of Highgate Center, Father Martin (Felix) Ferland of Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Monastery, Nova Scotia, Clement Ferland and his wife Gloria of Highgate, and Marguerite Larose of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Sheldon Springs. Father Bernard J. Bechard, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Gale family lot in St. Anthony Cemetery.

CEDRIC O. "TED" JEWETT

MONTGOMERY CENTER -- Cedric O. "Ted" Jewett, age 67, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 8, 1937, in Enosburgh, Vt., the son of Beulah (Foote) Jewett and the late Floyd F. Jewett Sr.

He was employed with various construction companies throughout Connecticut and Vermont and loved anything to do with John Deere machinery. He also enjoyed country rides. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Doreen Smegielski of Naugatuck, Conn., and Debra Smegielski and her husband Walter of Prospect, Conn.; his mother, Beulah Messier, of Enosburg Falls; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Jewett Jr. and his wife Rochelle of Naugatuck, Conn.; three sisters, Bertha Reed and her husband Norton, Arbutus Reed and her husband Morton both of Enosburg Falls, and Diane Chapman and her husband Clarence of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was predeceased by three children, Deborah, Paula and James Jewett.

Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2004, at 2 at the Hill West Cemetery in Montgomery. There will be no visiting hours.

LAURENCE THOMAS PLANTE, Ph.D.

STOCKTON SPRINGS, MAINE -- Laurence Thomas Plante, Ph.D., 75, passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004. Laurence was born in Worcester, Mass. on Feb. 6, 1929, the son of the late Charles O. Plante, Sr. and Laura M. (Beaudoin) Plante.

He moved with his family to Hinesburg on Nov. 4, 1934. Laurence graduated Valedictorian from Hinesburg High School in June 1946. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Vermont, graduating in 1950 with a B.S in chemistry. Laurence continued with his education, completing a M.S. in Chemistry in 1952, and a PhD in Chemistry from Brown University in 1955. He completed a two-year post-PhD at Princeton University with Dr. E. Calvin Kendall, Nobel Laureate.

Laurence worked as a Research Associate in Pharmacology at Tufts University from 1962-1967, as a Research Associate in Biochemistry at Tufts University from 1967-1969 and as a Research Biologist at the University of California at San Diego from 1969-1974. He was a visiting Professor of Biochemistry and Pharmacology at Tufts University from 1974-1976. Laurence was the Principal Investigator for the National Cancer Institute from 1976-1980. He was also a Research Associate at Intesco Labs until his retirement in 1985. Laurence's passion for chemistry and research inspired him to publish over 25 documents during his distinguished career.

In addition to his passion of chemistry, Laurence spoke both German and French fluently. He was an accomplished instrument builder. His instruments included Italian Harpsichords, Italian Virginals and Fretted Clavichords. Along with his ability to build beautiful instruments was the gift to play each. One of Laurence's greatest accomplishments was his many paintings. He mastered this talent with the same detail and perfection as he did with all his life endeavors. Laurence enjoyed reading, listening to his collection of classical music, and football, especially the New England Patriots. Laurence was greatly loved and will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.

Laurence was predeceased by his father, Charles O. Plante, Sr., and his mother, Laura M. (Beaudoin) Plante; brothers, Wilfred Plante, Joseph Plante, and Charles O. Plante, Jr. He is survived by Albert J. Plante of Orford, N.H., Mary C. Plante of Hinesburg, Vt., Ernest R. Plante and his wife, Marie, of Bethesda, Md., Marguerite (Plante) Zywiak and her husband, Henry, of Marcy, N.Y., Robert J. Plante, Sr. and his wife, Grace, of Hinesburg, Vt., and Pauline (Plante) Paquin and her husband, Clinton, of St. Albans, Vt.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
