LEE HENRY LAWTON
COLCHESTER - Lee H. Lawton, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Oct. 27, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a hardworking man of humility, compassion, loyalty and determination. Lee was born in Lincoln, R.I. on March 20, 1943, to the late Henry William and Ida Mae (Crompton) Lawton.
Lee moved to Vermont in 1969 where he met the love of his life, Lorilee Ann Noyes. They met in August and were married on Dec. 6, 1969. Their marriage was based on love, friendship and partnership for 35 years. Together they started Red Hed Supply, Inc. in 1972, a waterworks distributorship that served Vermont, New Hampshire and Northern New York. While at Red Hed, Lee served on the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors of Vermont. In 1992, Lee and Lori started Firetech Sprinkler Corp., a fire protection contractor based in Colchester, Vt. In 2001, Lee and Lori sold Red Hed Supply to a national waterworks distributor. Lee was a respected mentor, teacher and friend to those who worked with him at both companies.
Lee was a lifelong 4-H member and supporter. As a teen, he traveled to New Zealand through the 4-H International Farm Youth Exchange Program. Lee was a man of many talents and interests that ranged from tree farming to maple sugaring to machine repair. A farmer at heart, his leisure time was spent on his John Deere farm tractor. He has been a member of the Ethan Allen Club since 1984 and the Ethan Allen Masonic Lodge 72.
Lee's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Lorilee Ann (Noyes) of Colchester; his daughter, Deborah Ann of Boston, Mass.; and his son, Jeffrey Lee of Denver, Colo. He was predeceased by his twin sons, James Henry and Jeffrey Philip who died in infancy on Aug. 16, 1971.
Lee is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Peg Lawton of Lincoln, R.I.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philip Sr. and Margaret Noyes of Essex Junction, Vt.; his sister-in-law, Beverly Noyes of Grand Isle, Vt.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Philip Jr. and Lorrie Noyes of Essex Jct., Vt., and their children, Cory and Jenna; his niece, Diane Robillard and her family of Nashua, N.H.; his cousin, Muriel Andreoni and her family of Lincoln, R.I.; and his aunts, Ruth Lund of Saco, Maine and Bertha Crompton of Lincoln, R.I.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 38 South Winooski Ave., Burlington. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Lee's life at his home in Colchester. Burial will be private, and there will be no visiting hours.

MRS. BEVERLY JOYCE (FADDEN) BOSTWICK
SWANTON -- Mrs. Beverly Joyce (Fadden) Bostwick, 75, a resident of 28 Greenwich Street in Swanton Village, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 28, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Swanton on, June 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late, Walter and Addie (Sartwell) Fadden. She attended Swanton schools and on Nov. 2, 1946, married Marcus Albert "Go Go" Bostwick who predeceased her on Feb. 11, 2001.
Bev was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and belonged to the Ladies of Holy Trinity. She was also a devoted member of the Swanton Village Fire Department Auxiliary as well as the Swanton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In earlier years she worked in food service at both the Swanton Central and Elementary Schools.
Always known as a kind, loving and compassionate person Bev cared for many of the sick and elderly throughout the Swanton community. Me/Me will always be remembered for the great love and care she had for her grand and great grandchildren.
She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and John Thibault of West Swanton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Butch and Loretta Bostwick of Swanton Village and Jim and Carmela Bostwick of South Alburg; two sisters, Ginger Erno of Swanton Village and Katherine Heresy and her husband Richard Sr. of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Todd Conger, Julie King, Janice and David Cameron, Jill Thibault and Dan Farnham, Todd and Lisa Bostwick, Brady Bostwick and Karen Gagne, Angie Bostwick and Andy Collins; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Besides her husband Marc, Bev was also predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Fadden and a sister, June Fadden Bliss
A Funeral Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 1 p.m. from Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 38 Grand Avenue, Swanton Village. The Reverend Reid Farrell will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Bostwick family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

JAMES W. "J.W." SMITH
SARASOTA, Fla. -- James W. "J.W." Smith died at his residence in Sarasota, Fla. on Oct. 22, 2004. He was born in Vergennes, Vt. on Oct. 7, 1930, the son of Richard and Mary Tatro Smith.
J.W. retired from the New England Telephone Company after 30 years of service. He attended St. Paul's Methodist Church, was a member of the American Legion Post 1 and Elks Lodge BPOE 1566 in St. Albans, Vt. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He also attended Champlain College.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Joan of Sarasota, Fla.; son Richard of Vergennes, Vt.; three daughters, Jennifer and husband Paul Luhmann, Paula and husband John Mayo of St. Albans, and Jamie and husband Robert Partlow of Fairfield; two stepdaughters, Susan and husband Jim Feiza of Las Vegas, Nev., and Johnette and husband Ron Eggers of Sacramento, Calif. One sister, Judy Lemay of Isle La Motte, Vt.; six grandchildren, Zachary Sanders of Albany, N.Y., Cortney, Amanda and Alexandra Partlow of Fairfield, and Sarah and Laura Mayor St. Albans also survive him.
A Memorial Service will take place at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Church Street in St. Albans on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at 11 a.m. A private interment will take place at a later date at the family lot in Vergennes, Vt.

PATRICA DeLAURIER HOLMES
WALLINGFORD, Fla. — Patricia DeLaurier Holmes, 69, of the Yalesville section of Wallingford and Fort Myers Beach, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.
She was born in West Stewartstown, N.H. a daughter of the late Ruth Bingham and Harvey DeLaurier, and resided in Wallingford for 40 years. She was a former resident of Richford, Vt. and a graduate of Richford High School Class of 1953. Since 1994, Pat has been a resident of Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Pat was a member of the Vermont Society of Mayflower Descendants, she had been an assistant Republican registrar of voters in Yalesville and a para-professional at Highland Elementary School until her retirement in January of 1994. She loved reading and was an avid baseball fan, but the true love of her life was her family.
A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert A. Holmes Jr.; two sons, Robert A. Holmes III and his wife, Terri, and Steven B. Holmes and his wife, Cyndy; a daughter, Amy L. Connery and her husband, Keith L. Connery; six grandchildren, Caryn Acevedo, Michael Acevedo, Jennifer Holmes, Alyssa Holmes, Robert Holmes IV and Brendan Connery, all of Wallingford; a sister-in-law, Brenda McFarlane and her husband, Paul of Portland; a brother-in-law, Charles Holmes and his wife, Gerry of Meriden; an uncle, Everett F. Bingham of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a cousin, Faye Halloran of Washington, D.C. She was predeceased by two sisters, Diane DeLaurier and Lynn Esterland.
Her family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, Oct. 28, from 4 until 8 p.m. in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville. Reverend Eric Fjeldal, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden.

ELIZABETH DORIS ADAMS
MILTON -- Elizabeth Doris Adams, 93, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 28, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans surrounded by her loving family.
Elizabeth was born on Oct. 11, 1911, in Milton, the daughter of Rector and Anne (Robar) Lapan.
She married Kenneth Adams on Nov. 26, 1933. They were married for over 64 years when Ken died in 1998.
Elizabeth was a member and lecturer at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. She was a past master of the Milton Grange 522 and the Deputy of Jr. Grange Pomona, for the State Grange.
She is survived by her children Maurice "Mike" Adams and his wife Jeanette of Milton, Bradley Adams and his wife Maureen of East Fairfield, her daughter-in-laws Shirley Adams of Milton, and Beulah Adams of Underhill; by her son-in-law Charles Turner Jr. of Milton; her grandchildren and spouses, Michelle and Michael Desranleau, Craig Adams, Matthew and Doris Adams, Tamara and Dale Duffy, Melanie and Ed Burleigh, Connie Turner, Myron and Ruth Turner, Casey and Terri Adams, Dulsey Adams; by her great-grandchildren Corey, Deanna, Liza, Isaac, and Naomi Desranleau, Corey, Jamaica and Hunter Adams, Darren Adams and Tyler Duffy, Christopher and Jenna Burleigh, Mason and Ryan Turner, Benjamin Adams and Erin Adams. She is also survived by her sisters Marguerite Ladieu and Kathleen King; and her brothers and sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Kenneth, she was predeceased by her daughter, Helen Turner in 1972; her son, Richard Kenneth Adams in 1990; her sisters, Lulu Heimsoth, Elaine Gibson, Lorraine Blaine; and her brothers, Donald and Maurice Lapan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 at noon in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Milton Rescue, P.O. Box 15, Milton, Vt. 05468, or to a charity of your choice.
Elizabeth's family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, from 11 to noon in St. Ann's Catholic Church on Main Street in Milton.
A reception will follow the burial in St. Ann's Church Hall, where all are welcomed to attend.
Arrangements were by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
FLORIENNE LAVENDER
ST. ALBANS -- A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Florienne M. "Flossie" Lavender on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Father Maurice Roy was the Celebrant. Sister Cecile Lebeau read the Holy Scripture Lessons. Altar servers were Normand Blouin and Maynard Gosselin. Mary Jo Gillilan was the organist and soloist.
A large delegation of The Ladies of St. Anne formed a guard of honor. Other representatives attending were from former co-workers at Union Carbide Consumer Products, Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Franklin County Senior Citizens and friends from the coffee clubs of the Bread Basket and Red Top Restaurants.
After the prayers of Final Commendation, Rosalie Jacques shared memories about Flossie with the Ladies of St. Anne and then lead the delegation in the prayers for the departed members of the Ladies of St. Anne.
Tuesday evening, the Women of the Moose, Chapter 321, held their funeral ritual for deceased members with Debbie Beauregard as Senior Regent, Adis Meunier as Junior Regent, Sharon Craig as Junior Graduate Regent and Lucille Brown serving as Chaplain.
Bearers were her brother-in-law Greg Caron, grandsons Travis and Christopher Hemingway, nephews Glen Pion, Edward "Bud" Hemond and David Godin.
Omitted from her obituary were her predeceased sisters, Theodora LaBounty, Simone Ploof and Rita Pion.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy interment was in the Lavender family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Tuesday afternoon, Father Roy held a Christian Wake Service with her family and friends in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
EARL H. MARCHER
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Earl H. Marcher, age 83, a long-time resident of Jeffersonville, passed away peacefully at his residence following a long battle with kidney disease on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004. He was born in East Fairfield on Nov. 30, 1920, son of the late Arthur and Luna (Wright) Marcher. He married the love of his life, the former Beth Giddings on June 12, 1945, in Johnson and together they celebrated almost 60 years of marriage.
Earl was a farmer and a well-known log truck driver in the area for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed being with his family, and his hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, and traveling with his wife.
A special thanks to Dr. Donald Miller, Dr. Deborah Richter, Dr. Sarah Hussain, Dr. Jeffrey Rimmer, the Acute Care Dialysis Unit team, the staff of McClure 5 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center, as well as all the wonderful doctors and nurses who attended him. Thanks to Howard and Ruth Car for their transportation services. Our sincere gratitude to the Lamoille County Home Health & Hospice Center for assisting us in caring lovingly for him at home. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, many friends and many wonderful neighbors.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beth Marcher of Jeffersonville; two daughters, Judy Backus and husband David of Northfield, and Betty Marcher of Shelburne; two grandchildren, Wade Backus and Ann Langlois; five great-grandchildren; two brother-in-laws, George Giddings, and Carl Giddings and wife Pam; and a sister-in-law, Marlyne Randall. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Ardelle Smith, and Virginia Leno.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service with inurnment will be held on the family lot in Binghamville Cemetery, Fletcher on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin offering committal prayers.

MYRLE GILMAN WELCH
RANDOLPH, MAINE -- Loving and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Myrle Gilman Welch, 91, of Randolph, Maine, passed peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004. Myrle was born on Oct. 19, 1912, in Laconia, N.H., the third child of Albion John Gilman and Bertha Nortermann Gilman.
Myrle attended Laconia area schools and graduated high school there in 1929. Myrle next studied at Concord Business College in Concord, N.H. where she received a degree in 1931. In addition to her degree, Myrle gained the affections of her roommate's brother, Robert Ozro Welch. After graduation Myrle worked for the New Hampshire State Public Utilities Commission until her marriage to "Ozzie" in 1935 at which point the couple moved to Newbury, Vt. Newbury is where Myrle and Ozzie made a home and raised their three children.
In addition to maintaining a warm and loving home, Myrle served as the Lunch Program Supervisor for Newbury School System for several years. Later, Myrle worked as a personal assistant to Newbury's famed author, Frances Parkinson Keyes. After her husband's death in 1959, Myrle commuted to Hanover, N.H. to work as a Nutritionist at Mary Hitchcock Hospital. She later lived in Burlington, Vt. and served as a Nutritionist for The Mary Fletcher Medical Center there. Upon her retirement in 1976, Myrle moved to Maine and assisted her daughter in operating a Boarding Care Facility for Disabled Veterans.
She will be remembered as an innovative cook, a creative seamstress, a talented "green thumb, " crossword puzzle master, animal lover, and nature enthusiast. In her early years she was an avid outdoors person who especially loved the ocean. In Newbury, Myrle and her family were active members of The Newbury Congregational Church. Myrle found joy in helping people by serving on multiple church and community organizations. She was always a sweet, compassionate, and dedicated caregiver. She will be deeply missed by her entire family, including her cats, her bird, and her fond friends.
Myrle is predeceased by her husband, Ozzie; son, Robert; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her two daughters, Lorna Welch Cain and husband, Peter, of Randolph, Maine and Nancianne Woodward and her husband, Frank, of Georgia, Vt.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Michelle (Woodward) Lombard and her children, Joel Robert, Forreste, Victoria, Rachel Frances, Michaela and Olivia; Pamela (Woodward) Boardman, her husband, Kelly, and their children Dylan, Elijah Welch and Hannah; Crystal Cain-Castro, her husband, Brian, and their son, Ethan; Frank J. Woodward III ("Joey"), his wife, Deb and their children, Julia and Gracie; Brenda (Woodward) Luman, her husband, Mark and their daughter, Cailyn; and Neal Robert Woodward.
Myrle will be interred at Oxbow Cemetery in Newbury, Vt. on Oct. 30, 2004. There will be a graveside celebration of her life at 1:30 p.m. followed by a community gathering at The Happy Hour Restaurant in Wells River, Vt.
DAVID E. GARRETT
GEORGIA -- David Edward Garrett, age 54, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at his home in Georgia. He was born in St. Albans on Aug. 24, 1950, son of Laura (Ward) Arpin and the late John Garrett.

How sad it is that you have left us and gone away. But we know you are more at peace now then if you were to stay. You were loved by some, you were liked by all. Anyone around you was guaranteed a ball. We will miss your great laugh and the twinkle in your eye. The memories that you have given us, we will never let them die. Your life on earth may be over and now your suffering is through. But we will never forget the fun we've had and all of our great memories of you.
He is survived by a son, David Longley of Colchester; a brother, John Garrett and wife Debbie of Swanton; three sisters, Laura Rodgers and husband Terry of St. Albans, Sheri Arpin of St. Albans and Tammy Lemnah and husband Christopher of Fairfax; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased his stepfather, John Arpin.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 1:30 p.m. in Hayes-Rich Funeral Home with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery in Fairfax where full military honors will be afforded the U.S. Navy veteran.

ROBERT HENRY SMART
ITHACA, N.Y. - Robert Henry Smart, age 71, of 54 Autumn Ridge Circle, Ithaca, N.Y., died Oct. 23, 2004. He was born in St. Albans, Vt., May 26, 1933, the son of Louis and Florence Cooke Smart. Wife Marjorie Nelson Smart survives him.
He earned a B.A. from Cornell University in 1957 and M.D. from University of Vermont in 1967. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and as an urologist in the U.S. Navy, retiring as Commander with 20 years active duty. He practiced urology in Norwich, N.Y. and Sharon, Pa. and was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society before retiring to Hartland, Vt., then Ithaca, N.Y.
He is survived by sister, Eleanor S. Peno of Concord, N.H.; daughter, Cheryl F. Smart of Ithaca, N.Y.; son, Douglas A. Smart of Big Flats, N.Y.; son, Lawrence B. Smart of Geneva, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Daughter Linda G. Smart predeceased him.
No memorial service is planned. His remains will be interred in the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt.
