BARBARA ANNE MANCHESTER SCHULTHEIS
ST. ALBANS -- Barbara Anne Manchester Schultheis of St. Albans, 79, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family and closest friends following a courageous battle of cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004. Barbara was born on Jan. 14, 1925, the daughter of the late Arnold William and Geraldine Manchester. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School class of 1943 and the Bishop de Goesbriand (Jeanne Mance) School of Nursing, class of 1946. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church involved with the choir, bereavement lunches and St. Mary’s and Holy Angel’s prayer line. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She always had a caring and compassionate concern for the elderly. She spent every Monday at Verdelle Village visiting the sick and assisting at Mass until she became too ill to drive. She was also a former member of the St. Albans Historical Museum. She was married to William Schultheis, who predeceased her on Jan. 16, 1970. She is survived by her two sons, Arnold Wm. and his wife, Catherine, and Michael Schultheis of North River, N.Y.; four daughters, Geraldine Cobb and her husband, Donald of Swanton, Anne Lamphere of Swanton, Deborah Billings and her husband, Dana of Maryville, Missouri, and Angela Arel and her husband, Mark of Swanton; as well as 10 beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Brandon Cobb, William and Dr. Elizabeth Schultheis of Washington, DC, Tyler and Ashley Arel of Swanton, Daniel and Natalie Billings of Maryville, Missouri, Michael and Sara Lamphere of Swanton, Nicholas Jacobs, and Kelly Paquette of Swanton; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara leaves two brothers, one sister and their husbands, Gregory Manchester and his wife, Merle of Warren, Mich., Morris Manchester and his wife, Laura of St. Albans, and Nancy Lipinski of Orlando, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Fairfield St., St. Albans. Interment will follow in the Schultheis family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady and Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m.

GIRARD J. GINGRAS
MILTON / FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Girard J. Gingras, 80, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home following a long illness.
Girard was born on July 3, 1924, in Barre, Vt., the son of Rosaire and Marie Ann Gingras. He was married to Evelyn Fraser who predeceased him in 1975. On June 29, 1978, he married Cecelia Perreault.
Jerry was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in the Infantry during World War II. He worked for Vermont Structural Steel and Carpenters Supply for many years prior to retirement.
In addition to his wife Cecelia of Fayetteville, Jerry is survived by his children Ronald Gingras and his wife Betty of Stanford, Maine, Peter Gingras and his wife Candi of Milton, Cecelia's children, Armand J. Caron and his wife Cyndi of Spring Lake, N.C., Antoinette Henne of Fayetteville, N.C., Kathleen Piano of Clearwater, Fla., Therese Jones and her husband Ken of North Port, Ala.; by his grandchildren Emily, Andrea, Sean, Trevor, Amanda, Phillip, Andrew, Nicholas, Alexander, Michael and Matthew; and by several great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters and spouses Arthur and Mille Gingras, Lawrence and Jackie Gingras, and Gemma Belanger all of Barre. Mary Ann Couture of Winooski, Marion Carri of New Hampshire, his in-laws Eleanor Fraser and Bev and Bill Fraser, all of Barre; and several friends and neighbors.
He was predeceased by his son David in 1975, his brother Conrad and sister Adelle, and his sisters-in-law, Doris Dersoier and Rose Beaudoin.
Jerry's family would like to thank the Hospice caregivers for the excellent care given to him while at home during his long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

HELEN R. (LADY) Hopkins
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Helen R. (Lady) Hopkins, wife of Junius (Hop) Hopkins Sr., was called home to the angels on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004.
Helen was born on Nov. 20, 1926, in St. Albans, the daughter of Leo and Beatrice Brace.
She is survived by three sisters, Carol Washington, Theresa Brace and Barbara Smith, all of St. Albans; one brother, William (Chipper) Brace of St. Albans.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Fredrick (Manny) Brace, Leo L. Brace (Squeeky) and Herbert (Boy) Brace.
Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at 10 a.m. in California.
LUCILLE L. CAMPAGNA
HIGHGATE CENTER -- Mrs. Lucille L. Campagna, 67, died unexpectedly, Thursday evening, Sept. 23, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.
Born in Highgate Center on Dec. 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Alma (Rivard) Gagne. She graduated from the former Highgate High School and on Dec. 3, 1955, was married to Normand G. Campagna, who survives her.
A native of Highgate Center, Lucille and her husband Normand lived in Burlington’s South End for 42 years and most recently on the Campagna Road in Highgate Center. Since 1996 she and her family have owned and operated several Dollar Discount Stores in the Franklin County area. Lucille was a parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church and the Highgate Historical Society.
In addition to her husband of nearly 49 years, Lucille leaves four children and their spouses, Gerald and Carrie Campagna of Los Alamitos, Calif., Maurice and Kim Campagna of Shelburne, Debra Campagna of Brattleboro and Steven and Jamine Campagna of Milton; five grandchildren, Kristine, Daniel, Bradley, Katie and Joshua. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Lorraine Nichols of St. Albans, Rosaire Gagne of Highgate Center, Lionel Gagne and his wife Laurie Ann of Highgate Center, Loretta Quilliam and her husband Fred of St. Albans, Rita White and her husband Rudy Chapola of Chazy, N.Y. and Donat Gagne of Burlington; as well as many nieces and nephews.
One brother, Ovila Gagne, predeceased her.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Campagna family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton today, Sept. 27, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
LEONARD C. YEATTS
Surrounded by the love and prayers of both his family and the many others who held him in their thoughts, Leonard C. Yeatts, 76, passed away early Sept. 24, 2004, at home.
Born May 14, 1928. in Ruffin, N.C., the son of Annie and Charlie Yeatts, Leonard grew up in a loving family of 10 children. Instilled with faith and a strong sense of values that led him well throughout his life, he was highly respected in his profession and by all who knew him.
He attended Happy Home primary school (a one room schoolhouse) and graduated from Ruffin High School. At the urging of one of his teachers he applied to Pfeiffer University where he obtained a full scholarship. As it was wartime when he graduated, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for eight years, furthering his education. It was while stationed in Vermont that he met the woman who became his lifelong love, Doris Thibault. They were married in 1957 and spent 47 close, happy years together. They chose to leave the service to raise a family and relocated to the Bayberry Community near Syracuse, N.Y. where Len worked for the General Electric Company. He spent a rewarding career in engineering and management and was actively involved in the community and Christ the King Church
Len was especially fond of cribbage, his lunchtime bridge games, and his golf league, WAGS. He also enjoyed breakfast at the Depot. In addition to being an active member of Christ the King Church, he also coached little league baseball and belonged to the General Electric Elfun Society, the VFW and the American Legion.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Doris Thibault Yeatts; three children and their families, Mary Ann and Keith Peterson of St. Albans, Vt., and their daughter Ashleigh; David and Katy Yeatts of Woodstock, Vt. and their sons Mark and Shaun and Shaun’s wife Katie; and Jeffrey and Julia Yeatts of Baldwinsville, N.Y. and their children Meaghan, Timothy and Brian.
He also leaves behind dear and supportive brothers and sisters, Ellen Doyle, Ila Nichols, Catherine Chambers, Hilda Yeatts, George Yeatts and his wife “Pug”, Betty Wenger and her husband “Buck” and Carolyn Allen and her husband Jim. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley Yeatts, Leslie Yeatts (his twin brother) and a sister, Alma Yeatts. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Philip Thibault and his wife Shirley, as well as extended family and many friends.
Calling hours are scheduled for today, Sept. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mauer Funeral Home in the Village of Liverpool. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Christ the King Church in Bayberry. We thank everyone for their love, thoughts and prayers.

EDITH M. DODD
ST. ALBANS, Vt. / BRANCHVILLE, Conn. - Edith M. Dodd, age 83, passed away Thursday evening, Sept. 23, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born July 14, 1921 in the Branchville section of Ridgefield, Conn., the daughter of the late Antonio and Annantonia (DiBerardino) Forcelli.
She was a life long resident of Branchville, Conn. and in 1998 she relocated to St. Albans along with her brother Peter to be with her family. After the death of her mother when she was nine-years-old, Edith devoted her entire life to caring for her family. Edith was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Georgetown, Conn. She loved gardening and spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Suzanne and Basil Burt of Georgia, Vt., Nancy and Wade Rodgers of Alstead, N.H., and Eric and Joyce Dodd of Berkshire, Vt.; five grandchildren, Melissa Buckley her husband Doug and their two children Rachel and Megan, Jason Burt and his wife Christina all of Georgia, Vt., Arica Dodd Petrino of Danbury, Conn., Lisa Methven, and James Methven both of Alstead, N.H.; a sister, Anne Frulla of Washington, Conn.; a brother, John Forcelli of Ridgefield, Conn.; her bothers and sister-in-law and their spouses, Kenneth and Avis Dodd of Fairfield, Vt., Russell and Eleanor Dodd of Sheldon, Vt., Irene and Burton Strong of Craftsbury Common, Vt.; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Eric Dodd in 1980; siblings, James “Gig” Forcelli, Joseph Forcelli Sr., Theresa Forcelli, and Peter Forcelli; a brother-in-law and his wife, Francis “Jack” and Velma Dodd.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning, Sept. 27, 2004, at 11 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, Vt. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls
A time of visitation will be held Monday at the funeral home from 10 until the hour of the funeral.

FRANCES VIOLA “FRAN” MASHTARE
ALBURG CENTER -- Frances Viola “Fran” Mashtare, 66, a resident of the Alburg community since 1962, died late Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2004, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.
Born in Salida, Colo., April 6, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Orville and Ethel (Jones) Berry. She attended schools in Colorado and on, Oct. 22, 1956, she married Walter A. Mashtare who survives her.
In addition to raising a family Fran and Walt together owned and operated Walt’s Gulf Service, Walt’s Exxon and in more recent years Kestler’s Market. She often attended St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church and had been an active member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 Auxiliary and the Alburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Besides her husband Walter of 48 years, Fran leaves her son Harry Mashtare and his fiancee Julie Rivers of Swanton; five grandchildren, Heather Krone and her husband Kevin of Latham, N.Y., Holly Barker, Jayne Mashtare, Allyssen Mashtare and Conley Aaron Hilliker; two brothers, William S. Berry of Fairview, Penn., and Laverne Berry of Glendale, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Mary Frances Mashtare in 1958 and Connie Rose Mashtare in 1988. Also several brothers and sisters including, David Emerson Berry in 1934, Russell Lee Berry in 1939, Ethel Elizabeth Shetterly in 1997.
The Funeral Service will be held Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Interment will take place later in the Mashtare family lot in the Alburg Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 26, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m.

HERBERT L. WOOD II
ST. ALBANS -- Herbert L. Wood II, 71, of Cameron Street, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Sept. 18, 2004, at his home in St. Albans.
Herbert was born June 11, 1933, in Milton, the son of the late Frederick J. and Jessie Washburn Wood. He served his country proudly with the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return he worked for over 25 years as a Line Technician for Western Union.
He was a member and Past President of American Legion Post 1 in St. Albans and was a member and past Commander of VFW Post 758 in St. Albans where he also served as member of the Post Honor Guard and served as Bearer of the Colors at many Military functions for several years.
He is survived by his children, Langdon D. Wood of Stuart, Fla., Mark S. Wood of Effort, Penn. and Kimberly Sturgeon and her husband James of Bedford, Ind. He leaves also the mother of his children, Virginia Judy Davis Lenze of Springfield, Ind. and his fiance, Kathy Gaudette of St. Albans; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Mongeon.
Funeral Services with Full Military Honors will be held on Friday morning, Sept. 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with the Reverend Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Wood family lot in the Milton Village Cemetery.

MILDRED FALKENBURY FAIRCHILD
ST. ALBANS / PALMETTO, Fla. -- Mildred Falkenbury Fairchild, 85, of St. Albans, Vt. and Palmetto, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, after a long illness.
Mrs. Fairchild was born in Fairhaven, Vt. She graduated from Middlebury College in 1940 and was a retired teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horton Falkenbury and Carolyn Reynolds Falkenbury and a son, Donald.
Mrs. Fairchild is survived by her husband, George of 63 years; a daughter, Diane (Dee) Fairchild of Grinnell, Iowa; and three sons, George Fairchild and his wife, Sandie of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; William Fairchild of Fairfield, Vt.; and John Fairchild and his wife, Judy of St. Cloud, MN. She is also survived by six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. Albans, Vt. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, Fla. 34238.
