RONALD P. HOLTON

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Ronald P. Holton, age 63, died Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 2004, upon arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1941, in Burlington, son of the late Bernie and Doris (Godette) Holton.

He married Elaine Basiliere on Nov. 3, 2001. Ronald worked for Grand Union for 41 years and retired in 2003 as a manager. He was a member of the Sportsman Club of Franklin County.

Besides his wife Elaine, he is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia Beaulieu-Benoit and her husband Chris and Susan Holton all of Colchester; step-children, Jennifer Bouchard and her husband Timothy of Georgia, John Bushway and his wife Cassandra, Boyd Booska and his wife Sarah both of Essex, Larrs Hardy and his fiancee Rachel Patterson of St. Albans; five grandchildren, Cody and Ashley Beaulieu, Austin and Makayla Benoit, and Brianna Holton; six step-grandchildren; and many other friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.

Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2004. At Roland’s request there will be no funeral services.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 485, Williston, Vt. 05459, or to the American Diabetes Association, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, Vt. 05446. An online condolence book has been established for the family at: www.bnlfh.com.

ARNOLD ERNEST CHENEY

HOG ISLAND, WEST SWANTON -- Arnold Ernest Cheney, 82, a lifelong resident of Hog Island, died late Saturday evening, Aug. 28, 2004, in Haven Health Care in St. Albans Town.

Born on Hog Island in West Swanton on June 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Willie and Lula (Bradley) Cheney. He attended the Hog Island School 15 and on Aug. 20, 1947, was married to the former Bertha Jackson, who survives him.

Arnold was involved in farming for all his working life. He owned and operated his own dairy farm on Hog Island (Campbell's Bay Road) for many years. He loved his flower and vegetable gardens and also enjoyed walking and biking.

In addition to his wife Bertha of 57 years, Arnold leaves his children, Eldora V. "Dodie" Cheney of Colchester, Ernest A. Cheney and his wife Sandra J., Betty L. Cheney and her partner, George E. Spear II, Gilbert W. Cheney, Cathy L. Fournier and her husband Rene G. and Joyce M. Campbell and her husband Duncan A. all of West Swanton; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen A. Cheney of St. Albans and a special friend Phyllis White of Colchester. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lesley A., Andrew B., Matthew E., Marka B., and Marcus W. II, Cheney, Nicolas G. and Benjamin R. Fournier and Adam J., Jason A. and Katie L. Campbell; one brother, Gordon Cheney of Swanton; four sisters-in-law, Irene Rivers of the State of Georgia, Mildred Renaudette of St. Albans, Anna McPherson of Massachusetts and Pearl Glidden of Highgate; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Bellrose of Swanton and an early age farming partner William G. Cheney of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Marcus W. Cheney on Sept. 10, 1991; and two sisters, Mercedes Bellrose and Eldora Delaney.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at 2 p.m. from the Memorial United Methodist Church, Grand Avenue, Swanton Village. The Reverend Robert Hullstrung, pastor of the West Swanton United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cheney family lot in the Donaldson Cemetery, Campbell's Bay Road, West Swanton.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. Gifts in Arnold's memory may be made to the West Swanton United Methodist Church, in care of, Linda Barrette, 138 Campbell's Bay Road, West Swanton, Vt. 05488, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 138 River Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

FRANCES MAY BLOW

MILTON — Frances May Blow, 79, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans following a short illness.

Frances was born in Jericho, Vt., on May 8, 1925, a daughter of Frank and Cora May (Russin) Barrows. She was married to Theodore Blow, who died in 1998.

Frances was employed for many years as a seamstress at Johnson Woolen Mills in Johnson. She was very active with the CVAA and planned many trips with the Arrowhead Seniors. She enjoyed fishing and tending to her flowers and had a great love for animals.

She is survived by: her children, Gwen Rollins and her husband Gene, of Bradford, Vt.; Martha McLellan, of Norfolk, Conn.; Robert Blow and his fiancee Becki Allen, of Goshen, Conn.; Sandra Garrett, of New Hartford, Conn., and Ronald Blow, of Enfield, Conn.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her sisters, Pansy Holcomb and Elizabeth Cross, of Milton; and her close friend Gerald Smith of Milton.

She was predeceased by a sister, Irene Briggs, in 1998.

A funeral service will be held today, Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at 4 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

For those who wish, contributions in Frances's memory may be made to a local animal shelter or humane society in your area.

Visiting hours will be held this afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

DANIEL SUSSLIN

STOWE/ST. ALBANS — After a graceful, courageous, 11-year battle with brain tumors, Daniel Emil Susslin, age 45, passed away Friday, August 27, 2004, surrounded by his family at his home on the River Road in Stowe.

Dan grew up amidst his large, boisterous family in St. Albans. He was a passionate lover of sports, enjoying waterskiing on the lake, hunting, fishing, soccer, baseball, and especially skiing. Dan’s ski racing career began at Hard ‘Ack soon after he learned to walk. This led him to ski teams at Smugglers’ Notch and Stowe, and at age 18 a venture out west and a successful pro tour. Dan represented Solitude and Breckenridge Ski Areas, and was then lured back to the East to race and start his ski shop behind Moriarty’s in Stowe. “Action Outfitters” soon moved up the Mountain Road, and Dan (a.k.a. the ski doctor) expanded the shop into a year-round mecca for outdoor recreation.

Dan had many loving, loyal friends from St. Albans, Stowe, UVM and beyond. He loved carving a beautiful GS turn on the Nosedive, sighting his rifle in the woods with his brothers and friends, and angling on rivers from Vermont to Alaska.

Dan is survived by: his parents, Bev and Gould Susslin of St. Albans; his three sisters, Gayle Erdman and her husband Douglas Gardner, of Hinesburg, Karen and her husband, Nicholas Glouchevitch, of Moscow, and Nana and her husband, Christopher Boffa, of Charlotte; his three brothers, Brian and his wife Dorothy, of St. Albans, Andrew and his wife Lisa, of St. Albans, and Jason and his wife Tracy, of Reno, NV; his 13 nieces and nephews, Taylor, Jennifer, Emmett, Ian, Kate, Erik, Meghan, Ryan, Rachael, Danielle, Allie, Cole and Seth; and he leaves behind many special friends. Dan was predeceased by his grandparents: Frank and Daisy Denning, and Helen and Joseph Susslin.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, Aug. 29, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe. There will be a mass of Christian burial on Monday, 11:00 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on the Mountain Road in Stowe. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Cross cemetery in St. Albans. Arrangements are in the care of Stafford Funeral Home in Stowe.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dan’s memory may be made to Lamoille Home Health Agency, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661.

NORBERT H. RAINVILLE

Highgate Center — Norbert H. Rainville, 76, a lifelong resident of the Highgate Center community died Saturday morning, Aug. 28, 2004, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Highgate Center on, May 2, 1928, he was a son of the late Henry and Mae (Demers) Rainville. He attended the North Gore School and on, May 26, 1951, married the former Madeleine Bouchard, who survives him.

Norbert was involved in farming for all of his working life. He purchased his own farm on the Gore Road in 1948. He and Madeleine together raised five children, and in 1988 Norbert sold the farm to his youngest son Henry, but continued to assist on the farm until March of this year. He was a member of the Eastern Milk Producers, National Farmers Organization, The Farm Bureau and the Eastern A.I.

Norbert's greatest loves were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He had a lifelong love of reading and was also an avid card player and ballroom dancer.

An active resident of the Town of Highgate, he served several years as selectman, auditor, and town agent. He also supervised the Highgate Trust Fund and was Town Committeeman for the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. In 1978 he was honored by the Town of Highgate as its Man of the Year.

He was a lifelong and devoted parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish, serving as treasurer of the Holy Name Society and chairman and superintendent of the St. Louis Cemetery Association. He was also a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Albans Assembly # 1149.

Norbert also served many years on the Advisory Board for the Franklin Lamoille Bank.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Madeleine, Norbert leaves: his daughter, Marguerite Noel and her husband, Richard, of Highgate Center; his four sons and their wives, Donald and Bonnie, of Franklin, Robert and Denise, of Rutland, Charles and Cindy, of South Burlington and Henry and Kelly, of Highgate Center; his grandchildren, Eric Noel and his wife Hannah, Sarah Noel, Norbert Noel and his wife Sharon, Amanda, Emily, Andrea and Ryan Rainville, Justin Rainville and his fiancee Sara J. Tatro and Jamie Rainville, Joel and Kyle Rainville and Devin, Ian and Dylan Rainville; one great granddaughter, Madeleine Noel. He also leaves his one brother, Joachim Rainville and his wife, Lorraine, of Highgate Center; and four sisters, Marie Jeanne Benoit, of Sheldon, Bernadette Tremblay and her husband Hector, of Highgate Center, Mae Anne LaRoche and her husband Andre, of St. Albans and Theresa Begnoche and her husband Marcel, of Swanton; his sisters-in-law, Monique Rainville, of Franklin, Therese "Terry" Pierce and her husband Philip, of Franklin, Aline Bouchard, of Franklin and Rita Grenier, of Quebec, Canada as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Cecile Bouchard, a brother, Lucien Rainville, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Philip Bouchard, Marcel Benoit and Raymond and Marie Paule Roy.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Rainville family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. SHIRLEY M. FREGEAU

EAST FRANKLIN - Shirley M. Fregeau, age 73, passed away Saturday morning August 28, 2004 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St.Albans. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, on February 12, 1931 the eldest child of the late Irving Lyman Sanborn & Margaret Lenore (Hunt) Sanborn. In 1937, Shirley’s family moved to Dunham, Quebec, where she started school, and it was in Dunham when her father died in 1941, when Shirley was 10. She went to Cowansville High School until 10th grade, when she quit school to help her mother at home and at the family restaurant in Sweetsburg, Quebec, Canada. On May 14, 1949, she married Marcel Cyril Fregeau, the eldest son of Ernest & Cecile (Latimer) Fregeau, and of this union four children were born, two boys and two girls. Shirley and Marcel immigrated to East Franklin, Vt., in June of 1968 when they bought the Noel Mullen farm on the Scott Road and retired from farming in 1987, when Marcel’s health became poor. She then opened the Helping Hand Discount Store in their home and ran this business until 1998. She was a loving, warm-hearted, hard-working person all her life. She will be remembered as a good mother and grandmother and a friend to all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be missed by all. Besides her husband of 55 years, she is survived by: two daughters, Susan Fregeau of Berkshire Center, and Catherine Fregeau - Boucher and her husband Mike of East Franklin; her grandchildren, Brianna & Robert William Boucher, Jessie Fregeau, Melissa, Mitchell, and Michael Martin; four great grandchildren; a brother, Donald Mason, his wife Michelle and their family of Nepan, Ont. Canada; 2 sisters, Carole Langlois of Valley Field, Quebec, Canada, and Marilyn Parker of Morinville, Alberta, Canada; several nieces, nephews, and many sisters & brothers-in-law in Toronto, Ont. Canada. She was predeceased by 2 sons, John Fregeau in 1994, and Barry Fregeau in 1975; a brother, Ronald Sanborn in 1977. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning at 10 at the East Franklin Union Church, with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. Interment will follow in the East Franklin Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. HERMAN E. LUMAN

Richford — Herman E. "Tinker" Luman, 76, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his family at his side. He was born in St. Albans on Feb. 17, 1928, the son of the late Fred and Mary "Cameron" Luman. He was married to Lillian Dufresne, who survives him.

Tinker entered the Armed Forces in 1946 and proudly served his country through several conflicts. He was a distinguished Army veteran, serving in Korea and five tours in Vietnam. Tinker was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, and a member of the American Legion, Richford Post# 12. As a member of the American Legion, Tinker continued his service to the Armed Forces by holding the post of Service Officer, where he assisted other Veterans for numerous years. Outside of his dedicated service, he enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian, of Richford, three sons, Michael Luman and his wife, Kathy of St. Albans, Philip Luman of Swanton and John Luman of St. Albans, his sister, Lillian Robtoy of St. Albans, his brother, Raymond Luman and his wife, Helga, of Willingboro, N.J., two step-sons, Philip Bruley of Indiana, Pa. and Jeffrey Bruley of Bakersfield, four step-daughters, Valerie Kimball of Gainesville, Va., Marie Isom and her husband, Scott, of Aurora, Colo., Samantha Ovitt and her husband, Blaine, of Bakersfield, and Jessica Tatro and her husband, Robert, Jr., of Fairfield, seventeen grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, Frank and Robert and his sister, Alice Gray.

In accordance with Tinkers wishes, private funeral services were held this morning in the Heald Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy, Rector of Holy Angels Parish officiating. Interment followed in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a charity of your choice. MICHAEL A. BALDINO

Isle La Motte — Michael A. Baldino, beloved husband of Susan, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at his home in Isle La Motte with his wife at his side.

Mike is also survived by his brother, Frank and his wife Jean of Drexel Hill, Pa. and predeceased by his father Frank, mother, Mary and sister Rachel.

Mike attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business. He retired in 1980 from the Defense Logistics Agency as Assistant Division Chief of the Clothing and Textiles Directorate in Philadelphia, Pa.

After many childhood years of spending summers in Isle La Motte, Mike's dream was making his home there. In 1995, he made that dream come true.

He faithfully served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was a navigator on a B-24- 788TH Bomb Squadron, 467th Bomb Group, 2nd Air Division 8th Air Force and flew thirty-two missions. He also volunteered for a top secret B-24 Group, as a navigator, in the 801st/492ND Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, Code Name: "Carpetbaggers." The B-24's were painted black for low-level flights to secret drop areas in occupied Europe. Their mission was to drop spies / saboteurs and military supplies into occupied countries to assist and develop resistance (underground) forces. He flew 29 missions. For his exemplary service, he was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with four Battle Stars and the French Croix De Guerre with Palm.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 3, 2004, at 10 a.m. from the chapel at St. Anne's Shrine, West Shore Road, Isle La Motte. Father Brian J. Cummings SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. At Mike's request there will be no public calling hours. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Isle La Motte Fire Department, Isle La Motte 05463.

PATRICIA M. (BENNEIG) BOSTIC

FORT MEYERS, Fla. / SHELDON, Vt. - Patricia M. (Benneig) Bostic, age 45, passed away Monday Aug. 23, 2004 in Fort Meyers, Fla. She was born in St. Albans on February 5, 1959, the daughter of Iris (Pelkey) Benneig and the late Carl Benneig. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date. Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements

WAYNE L. HEMOND

SHELDON/ST. ALBANS - Wayne L. Hemond, 63, died at noon on Friday, Aug. 27, at Fletcher Allen Health Care following a week-long illness. He was born in St. Albans on July 13, 1941, a son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Underwood) Hemond. Wayne was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy in 1962. He was a resident of the Napoli Home in Sheldon for the past several years.

His survivors include his brother Theodore and his wife, Joyce Hemond of West Swanton; a sister, Phyllis Parker of Brattleboro; a brother, Thomas, and his wife, Paula Hemond, of Highgate; a sister, Eleanor Austin, of St. Albans; 11 nieces and nephews, several cousins, aunts and uncles. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Roger Hemond, on Feb. 12, 1982.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday morning. Interment will be in the Hemond family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. DAVID BOSTWICK TROMBLEY

David Bostwick Trombley, beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, died in his sleep Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004.

His father, Donald Trombley, and his loving wife Lynne Trombley precede him in death.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joseph and Lori Peach and his grandson David. His is also survived by his mother, Barbara Trombley, and brother Timothy Trombley, both from St. Albans, Vt.

Services will be held at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at 7 p.m.
