JEAN MALCOLM LOWE

NORTH HERO -- A graveside memorial service for Jean M. Lowe will be held in the Jerusalem Cemetery in North Hero at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004.

Jean passed away on May 24, 2004, in her home on North End Road. Mrs. Anne Dorwaldt will provide the readings, prayers and interment

RUTH PAULINE (BLANCHARD) HAYDEN

MILTON -- Ruth Pauline (Blanchard) Hayden, 87, died Tuesday evening, June 15, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a brief illness.

Ruth was born on May 2, 1917, in Northfield, the daughter of Frederick and Carrie Saphronia (Warren) Blanchard.

Mrs. Hayden was married to Frank C. Hayden, who predeceased her in 1978.

She had retired from IBM where she had been employed in Quality Control.

Ruth loved to play bells in the United Methodist Church of Milton Bell Choir.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Ralph Frank Hayden and his wife Paula of Milton, David Hayden and his wife Sally of Milton and Beverly Ann Hayden of Shelburne; by her granddaughters, Barbara Hayden of Oxford, N.H., Jennifer Hayden of Colchester, Christine Hayden of Milton, Melissa Hayden of South Burlington, and Bethany Hayden of Fairfax; and her great-granddaughter Abigail Hayden of Colchester. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Ruth (Hayden) Mattson of Milton, Bertha (Joy) Blanchard of Waterbury; a niece Barbara (Blanchard) Carter of Waterbury; and a nephew Frederick Blanchard of Waitsfield.

In addition to her husband, Frank, Ruth was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph and Carroll Blanchard of Waterbury.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the United Church of Milton. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.

Donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the United Church of Milton Music Fund, c/o the United Church of Milton, P.O. Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7, Milton.

REJANE M. DEMAG

ST. ALBANS -- Rejane M. Demag, 83, a long time area resident, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 16, 2004, in the Haven Health Care Facility following a lengthy illness. She was married to George W. Demag, Sr. who predeceased her on June 26, 1965.

Rejane was born on Oct. 27, 1920, in Verdun, Quebec, the daughter of the late Elzear and Alma (LaCroix) Rochon.

She retired in 1979 after 15 years as a clerk for the M. H. Fishman Store in St. Albans. Rejane was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and bowling with her friends.

Survivors include her son, Michael Demag, Sr. of St. Albans; her two daughters, Joan Demag of St. Albans and Helen Bailey of Ossipee, N.H.; her step-daughter, Patricia Craig of Milton; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Demag of Ascutney, Vt.; 14 grandchildren, Peter, Karen, Susan, Aaron, David, Patty Ann, Laurie, Michael John, William, Harley, Arvis, Benjamin, Steven, and Billie-Jo; five step-grandchildren, Anthony, Kelly, Gilbert, Kathy, and Stephanie; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Alma Harvey, Thelma Thout, Eunice Taylor, and Pearl Leadbeater.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Gary P. Demag on Jan. 8, 2000, and James S. Demag on Jan. 6, 2001; a step-son, George W. Demag, Jr. on Sept. 24, 1978; a step-granddaughter, Kimberly M. Goff on Aug. 23, 2002; four sisters, Gabrielle Pilon, Theresa Rochon, Arlene Rochon and Sister Cecile Rochon; and a brother, Emile Rochon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Fairfield Street. The Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Rochon family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Rejane's family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Dialysis Unit, 7 Crest Road, St. Albans, Vt. 05478 or Voluntary Services at the V A Medical Center, 215 North Main Street, White River Junction, Vt. 05009.

SILVIA H. VANCE

MILTON -- Silvia Harriet Vance, 94, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2004, in Birchwood Nursing Home in Burlington. She was born in Waterville on Dec. 22, 1909, daughter of the late William Bemon and Anna Mary (Wheelock) Vance.

Silvia attended grade school in Waterville and graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1928. She then graduated from Johnson Normal School and the University of Vermont. Silvia dedicated her life to the education of children, her career spanning over 44 years.

She was a devoted and caring teacher starting her career in the one room schoolhouse in Pleasant Valley in Cambridge, and later teaching in the Milton Rural Schools, Londonderry, Colchester and Milton Elementary Schools. Silvia was active in her community as the Milton UNICEF Coordinator, member of the Corona Club, United Church Woman's Society, the former Milton Grange 522, Cambridge Alumni Association and the Vermont State and Chittenden County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Milton United Church.

Silvia was a kind and loving sister and aunt and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends and students whose lives she touched. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Birchwood Nursing Home for the personal attention and loving care administered to Silvia during her stay.

She is survived by a nephew, Gregory Towne and his wife Shirley of Milton; two nieces, Marilyn Black and husband William of Milton, and Gloria Geary and husband John of Milton; seven grand nieces and grand nephews, Sheryl and Ronald Prince and family, Deborah and Steven Smith and family, Darryl and Betsy Black and family, Karen and Larry Stoodley, Brenda More, Jeremy Towne and wife Jennifer, Asa Towne; a brother-in-law, Paul Towne of Milton. She was also predeceased by a sister, Augusta Towne.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax. Funeral services will be on Friday, June 18, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Milton with Reverend Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Milton Village Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Silvia's memory to United Church of Milton, PO Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.

SIMONE G. (ROBERT) BURNS

SHELDON -- Simone G. (Robert) Burns, age 67, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 15, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born March 16, 1937, in Enosburg Center, the daughter of the late Albert and Leontine (Gengron) Robert. On Feb. 14, 1953, she married Bernard E. Burns at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield; he predeceased her Sept. 25, 2002.

A very hard worker for all of her life, she worked side by side with her husband on their dairy farm. She also worked with her son Dan, on the farm for many years. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and sister-in-law, she was probably the most unselfish person any of us will ever have the pleasure of knowing. She loved to cook, make sure that anyone who came to her house never went away hungry and there was never a lack of coffee available. An avid gardener, she had a green thumb that went all the way up to her shoulder.

Grandma was always there for her grandchildren, going to all of their school events, taking care of them from the time they were babies. Samantha was her best buddy, spending as much time as she could with her grandmother, happily beating her at playing Yatzee.

She is survived by her daughter, Penelope LaRochelle and her husband Howard of Fairfax; her son, Dan Burns and his partner Stacy Silloway of West Berkshire; Dan's children, David Ryan Burns of East Fairfield, and Samantha Burns of Fairfield; Stacy's son, Daniel O'Brien of West Berkshire; her sisters, Therese Demar and her husband Mitchell of Montgomery Center, Pauline Lefebvre and her husband Richard of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Claire Suiter of Spokane, Wash.; her brothers, Hector Robert of Enosburg Center, and Paul Robert of Montgomery Center; her sisters-in-law, Edith Fiske of Enosburg, Lorraine Tracy of Enosburg Center, and Doris Burns of St. Albans; her brothers-in-law, Ronald Burns and his wife Lucille of Madrid, N.Y., and Donald Burns and his wife Connie of Richford; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son, David Allen Burns; a brother, Patrick Robert; and two sisters, Mary Jane Murray, and Aurore "Oria" Lawton.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, June 18, 2004, at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

RANDY LEE BEDARD
SWANTON -- Randy Lee Bedard, 43, born, Aug. 14, 1960, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 12, 2004.

He leaves his high school sweetheart who later became his wife for 23 years, Aline (Viens) Bedard. He also leaves two children that he was so proud of and that he loved with all his heart and soul, Adam Bedard, age 14 and Katie Bedard, age 12 both of Swanton.

A 1979 graduate of Missisquoi Valley Union High School he was employed for 25 years at Rock-Tenn in Sheldon Springs. He loved hunting, fishing and being outside and especially watching his children play sports.

Randy also leaves his mother Leona (Morgan) Benson of Highgate Center; his father, Jean Paul Bedard of St. Albans; his brothers, Paul Bedard of Colorado, Michael Bedard and his wife Donna of North Hartland, Ronald Bedard and his wife Wendy of Swanton and Robert Bedard and his wife Raeleen of Highgate Springs; his sisters, Denise Bedard Comstock and her husband Everett of St. Albans, Penny Danforth and her husband Jeff of Highgate, Julie Robb and her husband Patrick of Connecticut; as well as several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

His grandparents, Roy and Lucille Morgan, predeceased him.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will take place later at the convenience of the family.

Gifts in Randy's memory may be made to an educational fund that is being established for his two children, in care of Everett Comstock, The Peoples Trust Company, 25 Kingman Street, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

PAULINE SURPRISE TUBBS

ALBURG -- The Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church. The principle celebrant was Mrs. Tubbs' nephew Father Wendell Searles Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. Another nephew, Father Randall Patterson pastor of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Parish in Troy, N.Y. was the homilist. Other concelebrating priest were Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE pastor and Father Lionel Emard assisting priest both of St. Amadeus in Alburg and St. Joseph's Mission in Isle La Motte. The Reverend Mr. Alan Vincelette assisted as Deacon.

In attendance was The Reverend Molly Comeau pastor of St. James Episcopal Church in Essex Junction. Music was provided by soloist Maurice Gauthier accompanied by organist Carol Pellerin. Grandchildren, Laura, Theodore, Sara and Samantha presented the offertory gifts.

Among the delegations in attendance were representatives from Irick's Excavating, Alburg Library Association and many friends and former neighbors from the Alburg and St. Amadeus communities.

STEPHEN CARL HAKEY

SWANTON -- Stephen Carl Hakey, 54, a lifelong Swanton resident, died early Saturday morning, June 12, 2004, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.

Born in Swanton, Feb. 24, 1950, he was the son of the late George and Ella (Root) Hakey. He graduated from Swanton High School and on, June 19, 1971, married the former Susan Roberts who survives him.

During his working life Steve held several management positions in the maintenance field, most recently as district manager for Paisley Maintenance serving all of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. He was also associated as a maintenance supervisor at Missisquoi Valley Union High School. In earlier years while living in Massachusetts he worked as a male attendant for the Northampton State Hospital. Steve will be remembered by many as the summer operator of the food concessions on Burton Island. He was also a six year member of the St. Albans Dialysis Unit Family.

In addition to his wife Susan of 33 years, Steve leaves two daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Brian Johnson of Swanton and Donella and Mark Ashline and their daughter Shelby of St. Albans Bay and one son, William Gett and his girlfriend Mary Jane Cota of Alburg. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Richard Hakey and his wife Betty of Highgate, Donald Hakey and his wife Cindy of Alburg, Beatrice St. Francis and her husband Gary of Swanton, Lester Hakey of Bakersfield and Tom Hakey and his companion Dale Iwaskewicz of Bakersfield; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hakey; and a sister, Shirley Gauthier Fydenkevz.

Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Reverend Dr. John C. Kehoe pastor of the Alburg Union Bible Church will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers gifts in Steve's memory may be made to the St. Albans Dialysis Unit, Crest Road, St. Albans, Vt. 05478 or to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt.

MAYNARD JOSEPH BEYOR

HIGHGATE FALLS -- Maynard Joseph Beyor, 91, a lifelong resident of the Highgate community, died late Friday morning, June 11, 2004, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Born in Highgate Falls on May 22, 1913, he was the son of the late James and Alma (Greenia) Beyor. He attended school in Highgate Falls and on, Dec. 22, 1982, married the former Etta Jean Carroll who survives him.

In his earlier years Maynard worked on the Morey Farm and served as a bartender at the former Manor Mayfair both in Highgate Falls. He also worked at the Sheldon Pulp Mill and was part of the yearly sugaring operation on the Philip Ryan Farm in Fairfield. Later after moving to Connecticut he was associated for 30 years with United Air Craft in Windsor Locks and also for 20 years excelled as a landscaper in the same area of Connecticut. More recently he was well known throughout Franklin County for his buying and selling of rabbits as well as used furniture and antiques. In addition he spent many hours cutting wood and raising and selling vegetables to several of the area markets.

Maynard faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on Oct. 21, 1945.

Besides his wife Jean of Highgate Falls, Maynard leaves five daughters, Veronica Dansereau and her husband Maurice of St. Albans, Alma Sturgis of Hartford, Conn., Marshalene Ellison of Newington, Conn., Sheila King and her husband Robert of Newington, Conn. and Dorcas Bushey of Sheldon; two stepchildren, James Carroll of Beallsville, Pa. and Judith Lucy of Bentleyville, Pa. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Gordon Beyor and his wife Mary of Highgate Falls, Osborne Beyor and his wife Mae of Highgate Falls, Loretta Paquette of St. Albans, Barbara Stewart of Highgate Falls and Arlene Trahan and her husband Bernard of Highgate Center; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Phelos Beyor of St. Albans; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Phelos and Philip Beyor; and a half brother, James Beyor.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend and Father Jean Paul Laplante together will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Beyor family lot in St. Louis Cemetery, Lamkin Street in Highgate Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Maynard's memory may be made to, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488 or to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Following The Prayers of Committal a luncheon reception for family and friends will be served at the My-T-Fine II Restaurant (The Pines) on Route 7 in Highgate Springs.
