ADA EDITH AUSTIN DIXON
ENOSBURG FALLS, VT./BONDSVILLE, MASS. -- Ada Edith Austin Dixon, age 98, died Thurday evening, Feb. 22, 2001, at the Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, Mass.
She was born April 12, 1902 in London, England, the daughter of the late Peter & Ada (Bowers) Jones.
She immigrated from London, England to Canada in 1924. She eventually made her home in the Richford - Enosburg Falls area until 1990, when she started living with her daughters in Massachusetts and Colorado.
She married Ralph B. Austin in June of 1927, he predeceased her November of 1956. She then married Robert Dixon in 1959, he predeceased her July of 1985.
She is survived by four children, Larry of Ft. Collins, Colo., Elnora "Ruth" of Bondsville, Mass., Sherlene of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Geraldine "Terry" of Lebanon, N.H.; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Austin) Jones Graeter of Enosburg Falls and her son Alan Jones of Franklin.
A private memorial service will be held in Massachusetts. Graveside services will be held this spring in the East Franklin Cemetery in East Franklin, Vt. at the convenience of the family.

BARBARA C. CORLISS
MONTPELIER -- Barbara C. Corliss, 79, of Brown Street, Montpelier, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. She was born in Middlesex on Oct. 27, 1927, the daughter of Harry Guy Carr and Nana Lathrop. She attended school in Middlesex and graduated from Montpelier High School Class of 1939.
She married Foster C. Corliss in Montpelier on Jan. 17, 1943. He died in 1982.
Barbara was employed for New England Tel & Tel as a supervisor and instructor. Later she worked at the state house as a switchboard operator. She was a member of the Rob Morris Chapter #24 Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she volunteered at the Gift Shop at Central Vermont Medical Center. She was a member of the Berlin United Church of Christ. She enjoyed her camp in Swanton and time with her family and playing bingo.
She is survived by her son, David Corliss and his wife Susan of Troy, Vt., and her daughter Beth Ann Corliss of Middlesex; one brother, Wilford Carr of Winter Haven, Fla., and two sisters, Ruby A. Harvey and Ruth Utton of Montpelier, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Irene M. Hewitt. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Berlin United Church of Christ, later burial will be in the Berlin Corner Cemetery. Calling hours Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barber & Lanier Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Montpelier.

MARJORIE J. GRENIER
MILTON -- Marjorie J. Grenier, 65, of Milton, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the Verdelle Village Assisted Care Facility in St. Albans. Marjorie was born Nov. 6, 1935 in Burlington, the daughter of Donald and Margaret Denton Hardy.
She married Paul F. Grenier in Burlington on Nov. 7, 1953. He predeceased her on Feb. 8, 2000.
Marjorie loved camping and playing cards, she enjoyed the many years that were spent camping summers at the Homestead Campground in Georgia. She enjoyed working with flowers and spent many years working as a Floral Designer at Gove's Floral Shop in Burlington. She and her husband Paul owned and operated the Hitching Post Restaurants in Burlington, Grand Isle and Milton.
She is survived by her family, Cindy Grenier and her fiance, Mike Ryan of Milton, Tina Grenier and her fiance, Mark Mongeon of Burlington, Paul Grenier, Jr. and his wife Sue of Montgomery, Scott Grenier and his fiancee, Tina Martin of Burlington, and John Grenier, also of Burlington; her five grandchildren, Heather, Allen, Melissa, Cassandra and Taylor; her stepgrandchildren, Miranda, Michelle, Jacob and Bailey; two brothers, Robert Hardy and his wife Jeanne of Castlebury, Fla., and James Hardy and his wife Dorothy of South Burlington; five sisters-in-law, Maria Desrosiers of South Burlington, Marguirette Griffin and her husband Tom of Burlington, Kay Duell and her husband George of Burlington, Bertha Grenier of Milton and Janice Grenier of Shelburne, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her very close friends, Gary and Sandy Hall of Burlington.
She was predeceased by her husband Paul, her granddaughter Jessica Lynn, and her brother Donald Hardy, Jr.
Cindy would like to thank the professional staff of caregivers at Verdelle in St. Albans where her mother resided the last few months. The level of caring and compassion extended to Marjorie and her family went beyond expectation and was greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Melissa, Shirley, J.C., Sandy, Marsha, Joann and all others too numerous to mention. You will always be remembered.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.

WILLIAM E. HANDLEY
SWANTON, VT./MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Mr. William E. Handley, age 74, died shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt. Saturday evening, Feb. 17, 2001. He was born in Windsor, Vt. May 29, 1926, son of the late James and Annie (Smith) Handley. William served in the U.S. Navy and was a trained Deep Sea Diver for the military. He later worked in construction and then became a well-known auctioneer. He was an Auctioneer for over 30 years in the Manchester, N.H. area.
March 10, 1973 he married Dolores Izzo. They lived in the Manchester area until Jan. 8, 2001, when they came to Franklin County to make their home with Dolores' extended family. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Erin and her husband Lyle Halvorsen of Seibring, Fla., two grandsons, Kyle and Jackson Halvorsen, his brother, James Handley of Brattleboro, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public funeral services at this time. Interment will be in Swanton this spring. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
CECILE DESLAURIERS
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Cecile (Rocheleau) Deslauriers, age 73, died peacefully Saturday morning, April 28, 2001, following a battle with cardiovascular disease and cancer. Born Cecile Rocheleau Feb. 22, 1928 in Essex Jct., she was the daughter of the late Louise and Adeline (Nichols) Rocheleau. She worked for 26 years at Union Carbide. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church, a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and a former Senior Regent for the Women of the Moose, Chapter #321. Some of her happiest years were during the time she was the cook at the Moose. She loved to dance, play cards, attend conventions, travel and most of all, cook for her family and friends. She had a zest for life and was adventuresome. She will be remembered by her family for her generosity and boundless love.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leo Deslauriers and their four children, David and his wife Janice of So. Burlington, Michael and his wife Leean of St. Albans, Donna of St. Albans, Mark of Ipswich, Mass., six grandchildren, David, Jr., Dan, Jeff, Nichole, Joseph and Marcel; two brothers, George and his wife Harriet Rocheleau, Ernest and his wife Gertrude Rocheleau; four sisters, Hortense Levesque, Carita and her husband Roger Cadiuex, Corrine Rocheleau, Rita and her husband Wayne Sweeney; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Rocheleau, Mary Jane and her husband Walter Kerr; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Harold (Omer) Rocheleau and her sister, Yvonne Vock.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 5, 2001, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Rocheleau family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. RICHARD "RICKY" LORREEN DUMONT
SWANTON Richard "Ricky" Dumont, 49, a lifelong resident of this community, died early Friday morning, April 27, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
Ricky was born in St. Albans Jan. 22, 1952, the son of Russell and Selina (Meissner) Dumont. He attended St. Anne's Academy and Swanton High School and on June 29, 1974, he married the former Kathy Thompson who survives him.
Prior to his illness Ricky had been associated with the Vermont Brick Company in Highgate. He had also previously worked for many years at Browns Foundry in Swanton. He was a member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont and in earlier years was employed as head of their maintenance department. He was a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He also faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Ricky will always be remembered as an avid hunter and fisherman and had a special love for walleye fishing and camping with his family. He will be greatly missed by Brandon.
He leaves his wife Kathy Dumont, his father and mother, Russell and Selina Dumont, all of Swanton; his daughter, Rachael Dumont of Swanton and her friend Casey LeGrand of St. Albans; two sons, Chad Dumont and his wife Stacey of Swanton and Russell Dumont of Swanton and his friend Morgan Barnum of Highgate; a brother Randy Dumont and his wife Peggy of Swanton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brian and Cathy Thompson, Judy Thompson and friend Larry King, and Butch Thompson, all of Swanton. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle and Brittany Dumont; nieces, Kelsey and Kyla Dumont, and his father and mother-in-law, Bernard and Betty Thompson, all of Swanton, as well as his Godchild, James Collins of Islen, N.J. and additional nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A brother-in-law, "Dickie" Thompson predeceased him in March of 1978 and also his grandfather and grandmother, Herman and Esther Meissner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will follow in the Dumont family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. JAMES M. HOLLAND, SR.
TAMPA, FLA. -- James Holland, 69, of Tampa, Fla., died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in St. Joseph's Hospital following an illness of several months. He was born in the State of Georgia, the son of Barney and Leila Holland. After his graduation, he was stationed here with the 764th A.C. and W. Airforce Squadron. Upon his discharge he returned to Georgia in the broadcasting business and later moved to Tampa, Fla. where he had been in the manufactured housing business. He loved to spend his summer vacation on Lake Champlain.
On Aug. 10, 1953 he married the former Patty Fitzgerald who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Lana Farmer and her husband Danny, a son James Holland, Jr. and his wife Susan, his mother Leila Holland of Columbus, Ga., four grandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Farmer and Jaime and Adam Holland. Also four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton (Janice) Bushey, Mr. and Mrs. James (Esther) Fitzgerald, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard (Peggy) Moreau, and Linda Hobb, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held in Florida on Wednesday, May 2, 2001.

JOHN LOUIS PAQUETTE
BAKERSFIELD -- John Louis Paquette, age 80, died Friday morning, April 27, 2001, at Verdelle Village ECF in St. Albans.
He was born in St. Cuthbert, P.Q. Canada, the son of the late Mastai & Areslie (Gregoire) Paquette.
At a very young age John and his family immigrated to the United States in the 1920s, where the family made their home in Franklin. He later became a naturalized citizen and married the love of his life, Alice M. Laroche on July 21, 1945. John & Alice had a joyous marriage of 52 years which ended with her death on June 3, 1997. He was a dairy farmer during the early years of his marriage where he and his wife lived in the towns of Franklin and East Fairfield. He left farming, moving to the Village of Bakersfield with his young family, which at the time consisted of his wife, three sons and one daughter. He worked as a sawmill laborer for approximately 16 years for the former Penders Mill of Bakersfield and Lamell Lumber in the Town of Essex. He later became a pulp mill worker in 1970 for the former Missisquoi Specialty Board Division, later called Boise Cascade located in Sheldon Springs. He retired from Boise in December 1983. For many years he worked part-time for the Town of Bakersfield as the Bakersfield Town Hall custodian and the Maple Grove Cemetery grounds keeper. He continued to work as the custodian of the Bakersfield Town Clerk's office during his retirement years, until the year 2000.
John was a communicant of St. Anthony's/St. George's Parish of East Fairfield & Bakersfield. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved animals and enjoyed the frequent visits made by his canine friends, Puddles, Max, Cole, Marty and Pierre.
He is survived by four sons and their wives, Denis & Debbie Paquette, Clement & Charmaine Paquette and Rosaire & Donna Paquette, all of Bakersfield, Gabriel & Sue Paquette of Enosburg Falls; four daughters, Marie Charbonneau and her husband Ivan of St. Albans, Helen Spencer and her husband David of Bakersfield, Noella Paquette of Charlotte, N.C., and Anna Noonan and her husband Andrew of Franklin; 18 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Henry & Margaret Paquette and Gerard & Therese Paquette, all of Richford, and Paul & Doris Paquette of RedHook, N.Y.; two sisters, Blanche Lessard of Richford, and Dorilla Larose of White River Jct.; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Paquette of Richford and Mariange Paquette of Franklin; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Alice (Laroche) Pauqette June 3, 1997; five sisters, Lucienne Coulombe, Margaret Vien, Jeanne Duranleau, Marie Couture, and Marie Louise Martin; three brothers, Lucien, Victor and Joseph Paquette.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield with Rev. Pete Williams & Rev. Leonidas Laroche co-celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home on 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls.

PAUL CHRISTIAN PAULSEN
MILTON -- Paul Christian Paulsen, 80, of East Road, died suddenly April 27, 2001, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
Paul was born May 29, 1920 in Boston, Mass., the son of Paul Christian and Ruth Johnson Paulsen. On Nov. 9, 1950 he married Kay Delaney in St. Aloysuis Church in St. Johnsbury. She predecesaed him March 29, 1975. In 1980 he was married to Jane Racine in St. Ann's Church in Milton and she predeceased him in 1984.
Paul was a WWII Army veteran, serving in Central Europe. Following his discharge from the service he was employed with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., retiring in 1970. He then moved to Vermont and was the cook at the Clover House Restaurant in Malletts Bay where his first wife Kay was the pianist. His final retirement came in 1984 and was from the U.S. Postal Service where he was a rural mailman in Williston.
Dad was a lifelong lover of animals, plants, flowers and reading. One of his favorite pasttimes was riding his Harley. He took many trips on his "hog" to Laconia, N.H. among other places. He especially enjoyed one trip he made to the Sturgis, S.D. 50th Anniversary motorcycle rally with his daughter Erin-Jane in 1988.
Paul's amazing recovery from a leg amputation and stroke in 1996 was testimony to his strength and fervor for life. His beloved canine companion Daisy aided in his recovery and has been a huge part of his life in recent years; she will miss him greatly. Paul had many, many friends from all walks of life. He was a wonderful dad who was very involved with his children; he taught us well and provided us with much laughter in our lives. Godspeed Dad/Poppa, until we meet again. We love you.
Paul is survived by his five daughters, Kathi Sawicky of Chesapeake, Va., Connie Paulsen of Essex Jct., Christine Paulsen of Portsmouth, Va., Karin Paulsen of Milton, and Erin-Jane Paulsen of Milton. His six grandchildren, Joan, Bill and Jennifer Hartigan of Connecticut, Maren and Matthew Paulsen of Virginia, and Derek Desranleau of Milton; five great grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Brittny, Michael and Brendan, all of Connecticut. He was predeceased by two daughters, Karen Paulsen and Frances Hartigan and his brother, Henry Paulsen.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Church in Milton. Interment will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Paul's memory to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478, attn: Rusty Posner.
