DANIEL STEVENS JACKSON
WESTFORD -- Daniel Stevens Jackson, 83, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester where he had been recuperating from a short illness. Dan was born on June 15, 1920, in Westford, the son of Orville and Ethel (Leach) Jackson.
Dan was a lifetime Westford resident. He attended grade school in Westford and graduated from BFA Class of 1940 in Fairfax.
On July 8, 1945, he married Elizabeth Almina Parris. Elizabeth predeceased him in 1988.
A machinist by trade, Dan was employed by Fellows Gearshaper in Springfield from 1942-1944. He started at Bell Aircraft in Burlington in 1944 continuing until 1948, when he became an machinist with General Electric in Burlington. He retired in 1985 from GE with nearly 37 years of service.
Dan was very active in the Westford Town, serving as Town Moderator, Constable, Tax Collector for over 20 years, Town Agent and Grand Juror, and as Justice of the Peace.
He was very active in the Brick Meeting House Society and the Westford Historical Society where he served as Vice President. He was a member of the Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts and owned several antique cars through the years, which he took great joy in driving in parades.
Dan could also be seen through the years, cruising the countryside on his Harley Davidson, which he owned until just recently. Dan was also a very active Mason, belonging to the Lamoille Lodge 6 F&AM since 1955.
He is survived by his brother Robert Jackson of Westford; by his niece Lynn Gauthier and her husband David of Westford; his sister-in-law Joanne Jackson of Pa.; his close friend Ruth Montgomery of Fairfax; and by several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, Dan was predeceased by his brothers Myron in 1940 and David in 1988; and sister-in-law Helen Jackson in 1988.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

PAULINE CECILE (JORDAN) JONES
SWANTON / RANDOLPH CENTER -- Pauline Cecile Jones, 73, a resident of the Swanton community since 1971, died peacefully early Saturday morning, March 20, 2004, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law on the Rand Road in Randolph Center following a short but valiant battle with terminal cancer.
Born in St. Albans, Oct. 20, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harold Horace and Palma Helen (Dupre) Jordan. She graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in New London, Conn. in the Class of 1949. Also in 1949 she married Donald H. Jones, Sr. They divorced in 1971 and he predeceased her, April 20, 1996.
Pauline will best be remembered for her long association as a paraprofessional at Missisquoi Valley Union High School beginning in 1973 and ending with her retirement in 1994. For the past eight years she has assisted the Bourgeois family in the operation of the West Swanton Apple Orchard. She was a devoted parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She leaves a daughter, Donna M. Wiley and her husband Mark of West Swanton; a son, Donald H. Jones, Jr. and his wife Darlene of Randolph Center and their five children, Brooke, Chase, Brandon, Cheyanne and Kathryn.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Pauline was predeceased by her stepfather, Richard (Skip) Anderson; and a sister, Bette Mclean.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at 12 noon at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE, pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish in Highgate Center will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

FRANCIS BEDARD
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Francis Bedard, age 90, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief illness. Francis was born Feb. 11, 1914 in Alburg, Vt., the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Blair) Bedard, and was a World War II veteran. On July 27, 1940, he married the former Fay Epstein, who predeceased him in February, 1993.
He is survived by one daughter, Jona Blevins, and her husband Gary of Pueblo, Colo.; a grandson, Jeffrey Blevins of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Marilyn (McAndrews) Bedard of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Germaine Raymond of Sampsonville, Madeline Lord of Henryville, P.Q., Canada and Florence Blair of Alburg; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Norman in 1996; brothers Joseph in 1964, Paul in 1973, sisters Mary Raymond in 1988 and Linda Howell in 1991.
A private internment was held at St. Amadeus Cemetery in Alburg, Vt. today, March 19, 2004 at 11 a.m.
HOMER W. BURNOR
UNDERHILL -- Homer Wallace Burnor, 99, passed away during the afternoon hours of Sunday, March 14, 2004, at his caregiver's home in Underhill. He was born in Jeffersonville on Feb. 17, 1905, a son of the late Frank and Mae (Davis) Burnor. Homer married Sylvia Burns on Dec. 26, 1938, in Cambridge. Sylvia predeceased him on Oct. 11, 1998.
He was self-employed as a logger for many years and later worked in the ski industry in Stowe, having the honor of fitting skis for the Kennedy family and Walter Cronkite. Homer was a former Mason in the Warner Lodge of Johnson. He had a great love of the outdoors and was an avid gardener and brook trout fisherman. Homer will be fondly remembered for his unsurpassed generosity, always giving to others his bounty of garden vegetables and maple syrup, which he purchased just to give away. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know and love him.
He is survived by: his daughter, Betty Clevette of Florida; his step-daughter, Marion Sylvia Tobin; two half-sisters, Mildred King of Forest Park, Ga., and Lillian Heath of Stowe; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by: two brothers, William Burnor, and Howard Burnor; three sisters, Josephine, Velma, and Olive; two half-brothers, Walter Garrow, and Charles Garrow; and a half-sister, Dorothy Garrow.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the United Christian Assembly, Jericho with Rev. Duane Hodgeman officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Belvidere Cemetery in the spring, at the convenience of the family.

ROBERT H. IVERSON
ESSEX JCT. -- Robert H. Iverson, 78, of Essex Jct., formerly of Rutland and South Burlington, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Robert was born in St. Albans, Vt. on April 8, 1925, a son of the late Hans and Matilda (DeLorge) Iverson.
He was educated at St. Albans elementary schools and was a graduate of BFA St. Albans High School.
Robert was predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla in 1972, and by his second wife Patricia in 1997.
He began his law enforcement career as one of the original troopers with the Vermont State Police on July 1, 1947. He held various positions throughout his career. In 1954, he was promoted to corporal as a patrol commander, where he remained until 1959. In 1959, he was transferred to the position of Detective Cpl. until 1964. In 1964, he was promoted to Detective Sgt., where he served as second in command of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation until 1965. In 1965, he was promoted to lieutenant and served as the commander of the Criminal Investigation Unit until 1977. During this time, additional responsibilities included Acting Deputy State Fire Marshal, Superintendent of Identification and Records, VT Crime Laboratory and VT Crime Information Center Director. In 1977, he was transferred back into the uniform division as a troop commander for A Troop. He remained in this position until he retired on December 31, 1979, after 32 years of service. On March 29, 1989, his rank was upgraded to captain.
After his retirement, Robert also served as Deputy United States Marshal and was Vice-President/General Manager with Deter Security for 10 years.
Robert is survived by: four children, Mark R. Iverson of Burlington, Craig A. Iverson of Shelburne, Kathie A. Keyes and her husband Patrick of Danby, Vt., and Bonnie Lee Staples and her husband Robert of Science Hill, Ky.; two step-children, Jay A. Dillon and his wife Patrice of Rutland and Sarah E. Irish of Rutland; six grandchildren, Amy Kreiger and husband Joshua, Kristin Iverson, Erik Iverson, Kari Iverson, Colin Iverson and Courtney Iverson; six step-grandchildren, Karin Keyes, Shanna Keyes, Seth Bride, Hannah Bride, Devon Irish and Pamela Dillon; one great-grandson, Aidan Kreiger; a special friend, Sandra L. Holbrook of Milton; and nieces and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by a son, Gary Dean Iverson in 1980; and by a sister, Doris Evans in 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery.

BILL JOHNSTON
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Bill Johnston, 67, of Georgetown, Texas and formerly of Milton, Vt. passed away on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, following a three-year battle with Leukemia. The son of Enos and Agnes (Dumas) Johnston, he was born on April 15, 1936, in St. Johnsbury, Vt.
Bill grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1955. He then entered the Navy and spent the next five years serving his country. Bill married and moved to Milton, Vt. where he raised his family and lived for 30 years. He was employed at IBM in Essex Junction as a machinist for 26 years. He retired from IBM in 1990 and spent his retirement years summering in New England and wintering in Texas.
He is survived by his children, Tami Gervais of Enosburg Falls, Cindy Phelps of Georgetown, Texas, Bill S. Johnston of Underhill, and Michael Johnston of Westford; his seven grandchildren; his step-sister; his aunt; three nieces; a nephew and many cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home on Summer Street in St. Johnsbury. A reception to celebrate Bill's life will immediate follow at the Black Bear Tavern. All are welcome.

HAROLD ROBERT "SHORTY" LEMOINE
SWANTON -- Harold Robert "Shorty" Lemoine, 74, of 11 Malcolm Street, Swanton, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004, following a brief illness.
Harold was born in Colchester, April 20, 1929, the son of the late Julius and Olive (Derocher) Lemoine.
He was a parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and a 46 year associate of The Fonda Group in St. Albans City.
Harold married his wife of 54 years, the former Rita Wells of Fairfax, Vermont, on Oct. 22, 1949. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandpa. He will be greatly missed. He will also be remembered as an avid Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He loved gardening, fixing lawn mowers and small engines for family and friends.
In addition to his wife Rita of Swanton he is also survived by his son Kelly and his wife Sandy of Highgate; his daughters, Carol Patnode and her husband Mike of Highgate and Cindy Rainville and her husband Charles of South Burlington; a granddaughter, Candi Boucher and her husband Patrick of Georgia; grandsons, Randy Lemoine of Highgate and Joel and Kyle Rainville of South Burlington and a step-great grandson, Michael Boucher of Milton. He also leaves his brother, Clarence Lemoine; and his sisters, Irene Martin and Doris Paquette all of Swanton; a sister, Lucille Tatro of Rutland; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Lemoine of Swanton.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Clifford and George Lemoine and Ardelle Bellrose, Rose Ledoux and Theresa Trahan.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today, March 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father John W. Hamilton, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish in South Burlington was the celebrant and homilist. Interment for family members only followed in the Lemoine family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. There were no public calling hours.

CARMI J. POTVIN
BETHEL, Conn. / Montgomery, Vt. -- Carmi Joseph Potvin, age 86, of 3 Fairchild Dr., Bethel, Conn. and Montgomery, Vt., died Friday, March 12, 2004, at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, Conn. He was the husband of the late Mary Latimer Potvin who died in 2002.
Mr. Potvin was born in Enosburg, Vt., Aug. 2, 1917, a son of the late Joseph and Lillian Touchette Potvin. He married his late wife on Sept. 2, 1944, and they moved to Connecticut in 1962, settling in Bethel in 1963. In his early career he worked in the asbestos mines in Vermont and delivered milk in the old fashioned cans. In Connecticut he worked at Perkin Elmer in Danbury during the evenings in the Maintenance Department and during the day worked at Blue Jay Orchard in Bethel until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bethel and enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, fixing lawn mowers and bicycles.
Special thanks to his home care-givers: Leslie King, Barbara Fast and Marshia King.
He is survived by two sons, James C. Potvin of Brooklyn, Conn., Thomas Potvin and his wife Sue of Ludlow, Vt.; four daughters, Patricia O'Dell and her companion Andy Scott of Enosburg Falls, Vt., Marshia King and her husband William of New Milford, Conn., Monica Yeamans and her husband Peter of Holland, Vt., and Barbara Fast and her husband Mike of Kent, Conn.; two brothers, Romeo Potvin of Norwalk, Conn., and Louis Potvin and his wife Nancy of Essex Junction, Vt.; 12 grandchildren, Cindy Dubret and her husband Tim, Leslie King, Bryan King, Gina Potvin and her fiancée Jesse Burnham, James Potvin, Jr., Marissa Yeamans, Jessica Gagnon and her husband Andrew, Rebecca Yeamans, Amanda Yeamans, Sarah Yeamans, Michael Potvin, Nickolas Potvin; two step-grandchildren, James King and his wife Kate, and Kevin King and his wife Myra; three great-grandchildren, Brittney, Chelsea and Brandon Dubret; four step-great-grandchildren, Logan, Dustin, Desiree and Joshua King; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his four legged friends, Lady and Molly. He was predeceased by four brothers, Francis, A. Charles, Ernest and Leo Potvin; two sisters, Marie Perry and Louise Greene; a granddaughter, Bridget Potvin; two nephews; and a niece.
