RYAN HARLEY LANGMAID

LOWELL, Vt. -- Ryan Harley Langmaid, 10, of Lowell, Vt., passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003. He was born in Morrisville on May 4, 1993, the son of Randy George and Tonya May (Elwood) Langmaid.

Ryan loved to talk and ask questions, read, ride his bike, cook with his mother, help with chores with his great-grandpa, help with anything his father was doing, and hassle his brother.

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Tonya Langmaid of Lowell; his brother, Shane Patrick Langmaid of Lowell; his paternal grandparents, Francis and Caroline Langmaid of Island Pond; his maternal grandfather, Dale Elwood and his wife Louise of Franklin; maternal great-grandfather, Maurice Eldred of Lowell; his maternal great-grandmother, Gladys (Nanny) Elwood of Sheldon; aunts and uncles, Lisa Johnson and her husband Steve of Orleans, Keith Langmaid of Brownington, Jonathan Langmaid and his wife Melissa of Sheffield, Abigail DelaBruere and her husband Isaiah of St. Johnsbury, David Langmaid of Island Pond, and Sonya Rooney and her husband Tom of Boxbough, Mass.; his paternal great-grandparents, John R. Urie of West Glover, and Hazel Langmaid of St. Johnsbury; his maternal great-grandparents, Elisene and Kent Lacross of Newport Center; his cousins, Krystle, Thomas, Alea, Sarah and Timothy; many great-aunts, uncles, cousins and many classmates and teachers.

He is remembered by his God Papa, Kevin Warner; God Mother, Donna Brown and special friend, Jerry, who loved him very much. Also his teacher, Mrs. Henn, and best friends, Alex Currillo and Tyler Murphy. He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandmother, Lydia Eldred on Feb. 5, 1996.

A memorial service will be held today, Dec. 10, at the Curtis-Britch/Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport, Vt. (formerly Bay Street) at 7 p.m. with Emette Eldred and Martin Green sharing moments of remembrances. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the hour of the service. Parking and easy ramped entrance in rear of the Funeral Home.

Should friends desire, contributions in Ryan's memory may be made to the Lowell Baseball Team, c/o Joel Collins, P.O. Box 132, , Vt. 05874.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Curtis-Britch/Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes, locally family owned and operated.

ROBERT FRANCIS WALKER

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Robert Francis Walker of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of St. Albans, died on Oct. 18, 2003, in Ft. Lauderdale. Born on Jan. 3, 1911, he was the son of Lucy May Dickie and Robert Walker Sr.

Bob and his four siblings were orphaned early in life and were raised by the Zellinger family, formerly of Lake St. He attended and graduated High School in St. Albans. Bob joined the United States Army in 1941 and served during the second World War, both at home and overseas, but mainly in Europe. He served in the Army Reserves for many years thereafter.

He married Hilda Johnson of St. Albans on Feb. 7, 1948. They resided at 234 Lake Street and 80 Fairfield Street, both working for the Central Vermont Railroad for most of their lives. Upon retiring, they moved to Pompano Beach in 1977.

Bob touched many lives and is well remembered for his friendly personality and dry wit.

Robert was preceded in death on Feb. 2, 1982, by Hilda, his wife of 32 years. His nephews, nieces and friends will gather in St. Albans on Aug. 7, 2004, for a Committal Service at Holy Angels Cemetery following a Memorial Mass at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m.

ROSE M. (MAXFIELD) THOMAS

MILTON -- Rose M. (Maxfield) Thomas, age 52, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a lengthy illness. She was born in Cambridge, Dec. 23, 1950, daughter of the late Walter and Phyllis (Webb) Maxfield.

Rose was a great loving, caring and dedicated mother and grandmother. She was willing to do everything for them to the end. She will be greatly missed and loved by all.

She is survived by a daughter, Terry (Fanton) Sloan and her husband JR of Fairfax; three grandchildren, who were her life and soul, Max William, Katelynne Evelyn, Derrick Matthew Sloan, all of Fairfax; a sister, Julie Gilbeau of Fairfax; two brothers, Charles Maxfield of Fairfax, and Phillip Maxfield of Fairfax; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; her special friends, Rob and Linda, and Stacey and Ray. She was also predeceased by her grandparents, Paige and Evelyn Maxfield; her brother, John Maxfield; and her nephew, Barry Maxfield.

At Rose's request there will be no services. A family gathering will be held in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rose's memory to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, Box 576, Waterbury, Vt. 05676.

Arrangements are by Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St. Fairfax.

JOHN EDWARD BLOUIN

ST. ALBANS -- John Edward Blouin, 68, a life-long resident of St. Albans, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 2003. He was born in St. Albans on Aug. 5, 1935, the son of Cyprien and Eva (Geraw) Blouin.

John was a member of Holy Angels Parish, and St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E.

John dedicated his life to serving the Town of St. Albans. He was employed for 31 years as foreman of the Town Highway Department retiring on Dec. 31, 2000. He received many awards for his outstanding service and dedication.

The Town of St. Albans recognized him on Feb. 21, 2001, with an award for his excellent service. The town named the Town Public works Complex after John in appreciation of his hard work and dedication. It is now known as the "John E. Blouin Garage".

John also received an award from the Governor, Howard Dean. This award is inscribed, "Your hard work and dedication to St. Albans Town has improved the lives of all St. Albans Town residents. Your work and your department are recognized as one of Vermont's best municipal road and highway programs." He will always be remembered for his outstanding service to the town of St. Albans.

John enjoyed spending time with his many special friends. His favorite activities included going to deer camp, playing cards, and gathering with friends for coffee and breakfast. He will be missed by the many friends he made while working for the Town of St. Albans.

John is survived by three brothers, Octave G. Blouin and his wife Theresa C. Blouin, Charles Blouin, and Herbert Blouin all of St. Albans; two sisters, Betty Lumbra of St. Albans and Eva Griffith of Connecticut; two half-sisters, Marguerite Lapan of St. Albans and Marjorie Paltrineri of Wellesley, Mass. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Cyprien and Eva (Geraw) Blouin; three brothers, Arthur, Joseph and Carl Blouin; a sister, Anna Boulet; and a half-brother, Samuel Blouin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church Interment will be in the family lot at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn. 06150-1160.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.

CLIFFORD EDWARD BIGELOW

GEORGIA -- Clifford Edward Bigelow, 57, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a heart attack. Clifford was born in Westford on April 29, 1946, the son of Charles W. and Ida Mae (Gifford) Bigelow. He married Kim Hill on Dec. 21, 1974, in Burlington.

He is survived by Kim DeForge and their children Amy Beth Bigelow of Georgia, William Bigelow and his wife Jennifer of Milton, and Christopher Bigelow of South Burlington, as well as Michael and Brian DeForge. By his grandchildren Kaitlin Bigelow, William Bigelow, Shelby Laraby; his mother and father-in-law John and Beverly Hill of Essex Center; by his long time friends Bill Wetherbee, Arnold Rivers, and Earl (Tiny) Ballard; and by many nieces, nephews, and brother and sister-in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers William and Henry Bigelow; and his sisters Janet LaVigne, and Ruth Bigelow; and by his brother-in-law Gregory Hill.

Cliff's love for culinary arts created an award winning chef. He thrived while working at Wetherbee's Catering, Rock Point School, and the Ramada/Clarion Corporation. He was most recently working with Mathieu Enterprises.

Cliff's "make-it-work" attitude, "Early to bed - Early to rise" and "Zero tolerance for slackers" will be forever remembered. His memory will be cherished and smiles will abound when we think of his love for his family, friends and used vehicles.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at noon with the Reverend Stephen Garvey officiating, in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

Contributions in Cliff's memory may be made to the Essex Rescue, P.O. Box 124, Essex Junction, Vt. 05453-0124 . Friends may call on the family on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral at the Minor Funeral Home, located on Rt. 7 in Milton.

WAYNE A. BARBER

MILTON -- Wayne A. Barber, CSM. RET, 55, of Cobble Hill Road, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, Dec. 6, 2003, at his home in Milton. Wayne was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Burlington, the son of the late Ralph Junior and Nina Lawrence Barber. He graduated from South Burlington High School in 1966. On June 5, 1968 he married Betty Jean Morrill in Winooski.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour of duty in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. He retired on Nov. 1, 2002, at the Rank of Command Sergeant Major.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association and the VFW in Essex Junction. Wayne loved spending time with family and his two closest friends, Bruce Dusablon and Ron Germaine. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his wife Betty of Milton; and his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Heather Barber of Clemmons, N.C.; his sisters and brothers, Cheryl and Leo Belval of Milton, Gary Ravlin of South Burlington, Nancy and Clem Roberts of Richmond, Donna Cardinal of Burlington and Robert Ravlin of Virginia; his mother-in-law, Mayford Morrill of St. Albans; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman and Sue Morrill of Ferrisburg, John Morrill of South Hero, Bruce and Brenda Morrill of Shelburne and Phyllis and Mike Gulla of South Hero. He was predeceased by his parents, Nina and Ralph Barber; and his stepfather, Lee Ravlin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with Reverend Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.

Donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Ct., South Burlington, Vt. o5403, or the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7, Milton.

AUGUSTA VANCE TOWNE

MILTON -- Augusta Vance Towne, 89 of Bear Trap Road, died Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 2003, surrounded by her loving family at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Augusta was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Waterville, the daughter of William Beman and Anna Mary Wheelock Vance.

She graduated from Cambridge High School in the class of 1932 and went on to graduate from the Johnson Normal College. She started teaching in the Milton school system. She taught for a year in Stowe and then taught in the Colchester schools retiring in 1979 following 27 years of dedicated and caring service to those that she served. On March 21, 1936, she was married to Paul B. Towne in Cambridge Junction who survives her.

Augusta was a member of the United Church of Milton where she also belonged to the church women's group. She belonged to the Milton Home Dem group, the Corona Club and the Milton Grange. She enjoyed cooking chicken pie, baked beans and sticky buns, as well as writing poetry and following her favorite baseball team, the Red Sox. Augusta and Paul loved to travel and enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Fla. for 17 years where she also enjoyed singing in the Orange Manor West Chorus.

A very generous person, she was loved and will be missed by her loving husband of 67 years, Paul of Milton; as well as her three children, Marilyn Black and her husband Bill of Milton, Gloria Geary and her husband John of Milton and Greg Towne and his wife, Shirley also of Milton; her sister, Silvia Vance of Burlington; her grandchildren, Deborah and Steve Smith, Darryl and Betsy Black, Sheryl and Ron Prince, Brenda More, Karen and Larry Stoodley, Jeremy and Jennifer Towne and Asa Towne; her great-grandchildren, Danielle Barkyoumb, Ethan Smith, Spencer and Olivia Black and Jennifer and Paul Prince; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Laura Parson of Richford, Dorothy Mayo of Florida, Helen Smith and her husband Glen of California, Pearl Welch and her husband Clayton of Barre, Eugene Towne of Milton, Donovan Towne and his wife Audrey of Milton, Carroll Towne and his wife Nina of Milton, Neil Towne and his wife Bobbie of California, Alice Shepard and her husband Tom of Milton and Thelma Towne of Burlington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandchildren, Derek Smith and Allison Barkyoumb; as well as her brother-in-law, Robert Towne.

Augusta's family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at the Vermont Respite House for their loving care and kindness shown to Augusta and her family during her stay with them. Special thanks also to Dr. Barbara Grant of the Oncology Clinic at Fletcher Allen for her care and compassion shown.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with the Reverend Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Village Cemetery in the spring.

Donations in Augusta's memory may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, Vt. 05495, or to the United Church of Milton, to be used at the discretion of the Trustees, P.O. Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Rt. 7 in Milton.

JULIETTE M. FALCON

SOUTH HERO -- Juliette M. (Goulet) Falcon, 82, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center following a short bout with pneumonia. Juliette was born in St. Ignace, P.Q., Canada on July 4, 1921, the daughter of Zephir and Antoinette (Bertrand) Goulet. On Aug. 20, 1949, she married J. Arthur Falcon in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski.

She and Arthur worked very hard throughout the years. In their earlier years they farmed in Fairfax and in South Hero. They later owned and operated the South Hero Grocery. Juliette also worked for her sister Aurea Plouffe for many years at the Elm Hill Farm in Colchester.

Juliette was a devout member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero. She could often be found working on church dinners and funeral meals at St. Rose's, or tending to her flower beds or vegetable garden at home.

Juliette took great interest in her family which she loved very dearly. She took great pride in all three of her grandchildren, and will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Falcon is survived by her daughter Sylvie Breault and her husband Rick of South Hero; by her grandchildren, Tricia and Renee Breault of Essex, and Jason Breault of South Hero; by her brother-in-law Aime Plouffe of Colchester; by Arthur's family, Wilfred and Rejeanne Falcon, Almeda Pelletier, Normand and Marie Claire Falcon, Rosala Paquette, Armand-Gilles and Francoise Falcon, Angela and Elie Pelletier and Marie-Anna Labounte, all of Canada; and by several nieces and nephews.

Juliette was predeceased by her husband Arthur, of over 54 years, on March 13, 2003; by her sisters Aurea Plouffe and Helena Larose, her brothers Norman and Bernard Goulet; her brother and sister-in-laws, George-Emile Falcon, Maurice Pelletier, Rosaire Paquette, Jean-Guy Labounte, Rose-Eva Falcon, and Marie Claire Falcon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Branon on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero. Burial will follow in the family lot in the South Hero Cemetery.

Contributions in Juliette's memory may be made to either the South Hero Rescue, P.O. Box 365, South Hero, Vt. 05486, or to C.I.D.E.R., 307 Rt. 2, South Hero, Vt. 05486.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
