ELSIE SANDERSON DUFFY

ST. ALBANS -- Elsie Sanderson Duffy, 98, died peacefully on Dec. 25, 2003, in the Haven Health Care in St. Albans. Elsie was born in Chazy, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1905, the daughter of Abner and Lydia (King) Mayo.

Elsie married William Sanderson in 1921; he died in 1960. In 1962, Mrs. Sanderson married John Duffy. John died in 1981.

Elsie had worked in the Woolen Mills in Winooski from 1948 to 1975, during this time she and her husband also owned the Cozy Corner Garage and Store in Milton.

She is survived by her son Charles Sanderson of St. Albans; by her stepsons, Robert Duffy of Milton, Wayne Duffy of Atlanta, Ga., and Norma King of Berkshire; by three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to both husbands, she was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Mary Sanderson; her granddaughter, Sandra Hensel; her step-children, Barb Ryan and Jim Duffy; her brothers Abe and Herbert Mayo; and her sisters Margaret Schwartz, Frances Ley, Bertha Schmitt, and Honey Kelly.

Funeral services were held this morning, Dec. 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Visiting hours were held from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in the Milton Village Cemetery in the spring.

Memorials in Elsie's name may be made to the Milton Rescue, P.O. Box 15, Milton, VT. 05468.

ALICE G. ASHLINE

ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Alice G. Ashline, age 82, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2003, in the Starr Farm Nursing Home. She was born in Sheldon, March 23, 1921, daughter of the late Emile and Dorothy (Tatro) Lanoue.

Alice was employed at the Fonda Container Group and later retired from the Union Carbide Consumer Products in 1980. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.

She married Lawrence Ashline in 1937. He predeceased her in 1981.

Her survivors include her three sons and their wives, Richard and Noella Ashline of South Burlington, Robert and Evelyn Ashline of St. Albans, and Terrance and Katherine Ashline of South Burlington; five grandchildren and their spouses, Raymond and Tammy Ashline, Laura and Michael Liberty, Anita and Bob Davis, Ricky Ashline and his girlfriend Nicole LaBelle and Karen and Steve Mount; several great­grandchildren; a sister Antoinette Baker of Brattleboro and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Interment will be in the Ashline family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

JUDITH SUSAN BARRETT

ST. ALBANS -- Miss Judith "Judy" Susan Barrett, age 61, beloved daughter of Dora M. (Bean) and Vilous D. Barrett, passed this day, Dec. 27, 2003, from the loving arms of her sisters to be with her family in heaven.

Born on Aug. 4, 1942, Judith was a special child. She lived her life in the warmth and attention of her entire family. Judy loved music, especially country music, and had an extensive collection of tapes. She looked forward each summer to going to camp where she could enjoy her favorite music out on the deck in full view of beautiful Lake Carmi.

Judy leaves her dear sisters and special care givers, and their husbands, Rita and Maynard Gosselin, Marie and Hubert Pare, all of St. Albans; her brother, Robert "Buck" and his wife Jane Barrett, also of St. Albans; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Doris Kaszuba, Blanche B. Gauthier, Kathleen Gauthier; and a brother, Raymond Barrett.

We will always remember her for her sweet, affectionate nature, her impish grin and purity of spirit. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 9:30 until 10:30 Tuesday morning. Interment will follow in the Barrett family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

LEONARD H. RICH

SWANTON -- Leonard H. "Lenny" Rich, age 60, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 24, 2003, at his home. He was born in Springfield, Oct. 26, 1943, son of the late Wilmirth and Mae (Ouimette) Rich. Lenny married Sandra Albertelli on Sept. 17, 1964.

He served in the Vermont National Guard for two years then entered the U. S. Army, serving for the next 21 years. Lenny was discharged from the Army as a Sergeant First Class in 1985. He then became employed as a mechanic for the E. J. Barrette & Sons Ford Dealership in Swanton, until his retirement in 2001.

Lenny was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758 and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1, of St. Albans. He enjoyed his computer, western shows on TV, and was an avid bow hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of over 39 years; their eight children and their spouses, Sally and William Carty of Roebling, N.J., Brian Rich of Ft. Lewis, Wash., Karen and Donald Williams of Schweinfert, Germany, Katherine and Larry Simmons of Highgate, Jeffery and Brenda Rich of Highgate, Penny and Wayne Shedrick of West Swanton, Cindy and Christopher Place Sr. of St. Albans, Susie and Jason Stoddard of Swanton; his four brothers and their spouses, David and Karen Rich of Essex, Kurt and Luann Rich of Bridgewater, Mass., Gary Rich and his fiance Patricia Graham of Halifax, Mass., and Kevin and Kelly Rich of Jericho; 22 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his 13 year-old brother, Rodney Rich.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 29, 2003, in Holy Angels Church. Friends called at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. from 2 to 5 Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in the Rich family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

ANTHONY P. IZZO

ST. ALBANS -- Anthony Paul "Tony" Izzo, age 49, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington. He was born in New Haven, Conn., Nov. 24, 1954, son of Patricia J. (Marchitto) and the late Anthony F. Izzo.

Tony served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in New Haven, Conn. Tony was employed as a security guard until his disability forced retirement in 1992.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Burrows) Izzo of St. Albans; his mother, Patricia Rubino of West Haven, Conn.; four children, Patricia Izzo, Anthony Izzo and Shanta Izzo all of Washington, his daughter Linda and her husband Charles Fortier of St. Albans; two grandsons, Brandon and Cameron Fortier both of St. Albans, two brothers, Ralph and his wife Linda Eburg of New Haven, Conn., and Pasquale and his wife Sylvia Rubino of Branford, Conn.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including two special friends Jeff Krinsky of West Haven, Conn. and Carlene Barabas of East Haven, Conn.

Full Military funeral services will be held at a later date in Connecticut.

ARNOLD H. JOYAL

JOHNSON -- Arnold H. Joyal, 74 of Johnson, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at the Haven Health Extended Care Facility in St. Albans following a long illness.

Arnold was born May 22, 1929, in Bakersfield, the son of the late Francis and Wilba Dezotell Joyal. He worked as a lumberyard attendant for the Bell Gates Company in Jeffersonville for over 30 years.

He is survived by his brother, William Joyal and his wife Carolyn of Hartford, Conn.; and his two sisters, Maxine Horner and her husband Thomas of Milton and Doris Metevier and her husband Leonard, also of Milton; his four nephews, Douglas Edwards and his family of Fairfax and Robert, Gary and James Metevier and their families, all of Milton; his Uncle, Mike Dezotell of Richford; as well as several cousins.

A graveside committal service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in the Belvidere Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.

Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The family of Arnold Joyal would like to thank Haven Health Care and everyone for the kindness shown him during his long illness. He enjoyed the visits and attention from everyone. Our appreciation and thanks, it meant so much to us. -- Bill, Maxine, Doris and families --

LOUISE ETHEL (LAVIOLETTE) YOHE

ISLE LA MOTTE -- Mrs. Louise Ethel Yohe, 92, wife of the late Reverend C. Frederick Yohe, died late Wednesday evening, Dec. 24, 2003, in the Haven Health Center in St. Albans Town.

Louise was born in Leominster, Mass., Jan. 13, 1911, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ida (Tyrrell) Laviolette and on June 27, 1937, married The Reverend C. Frederick Yohe who predeceased her, Nov. 23, 1991.

Louise was a resident of the Isle La Motte community since 1971. She was an active member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church, Columbia Chapter 76 Order of the Eastern Star in Alburg and trustee meritorious of Isle La Motte Public Library. In earlier years she and her husband served many Methodist parishes throughout Vermont and New York.

Louise leaves her longtime friend and caregiver, Mrs. June DeSarno of Isle La Motte; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Isle La Motte Village. The Reverend Deborah Laporte will officiate. Entombment will follow to await spring interment in the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester. There will be no public visitation.

Gifts in Louise's memory may be made to the Isle La Motte Public Library, in care of, Diane Cherrier, 2837 Main Street, Isle La Motte, Vt. 05463. On line condolences may be directed to the family by e-mail, kiddermh@adelphia.net.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton.
