CHARLES A. POWERS SR.
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Charles A. Powers Sr., age 62, died Thursday evening, Nov. 20, 2003, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center, with his loving family at his bedside, following a courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born in St. Albans on June 26, 1941, son of the late Walter A. and Loretta (Garceau) Powers.
Charles was a shipping clerk for H.P. Hood Milk Producers for over 27 years. He served in the Vermont National Guard and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert E. Glidden Post 758. He married Marion Gabree on March 5, 1960. Marion died June 16, 2001.
Charles is survived by their four children, Charles Powers Jr. of St. Albans, Randy and his wife Beth Powers of Sheldon, Sandi and her husband Robert Bero of Germany, and Candi Helms of St. Albans; eight grandchildren, Christopher Powers, Penny Powers, Rene St. Francis, Nicholas Bero, Brad Bero, Brittnie Helms, Shawn Helms and Jori Helms; his sister, Jackie Powers of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Marion, Charles was predeceased by daughter, Penny Jean Powers; and his son, Jason Powers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the gravesite in Hope Cemetery in Georgia. Father Maurice Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church, officiated. Visitation for his family was held prior to the services in the Brady & Levesque Chapel.
Bearers were his sons, Charles Powers Jr., Randy Powers, sons-in-law, Robert Bero, Kevin Helms, grandson, Nicholas Bero, and cousin Alan Vincelette.
Following Prayers of Committal by Father Roy interment was in the Powers family lot in Hope Cemetery. The American Flag from the Veteran's casket was presented to his daughter, Candi Helms, by S.A.L. Jeffrey Levesque, representing the veterans organizations.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
CHRISTINE F. MARSHALL
SWANTON -- Mrs. Christine F. Marshall, age 55, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Winooski on April 17, 1948, daughter of the late Robert W. and Faye (LaBelle) Miller.
Christine graduated from Rice Memorial High School and was an elementary teacher at the James P. Callaghan School in St. Albans Town. She was a former teacher of Christian Docterine at Holy Angels Parish in St. Albans. Recently, as a resident of Swanton, she had been attending St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Highgate Center. Christine was an avid Patriots fan and a loyal Red Sox fan.
Her survivors include her devoted companion, David Deuso of Swanton; her daughter, Erika and her husband Casey Skeen of Puyallup, Wash.; her son, Ryan Marshall of St. Albans; sisters, Debra Vierling of South Burlington, Marty (Marleen) and her husband Christopher Robbins of Winooski, Tina and her husband Eric Sawyer of North Carolina; her brother, Robert Miller of Texas; her former husband, John Marshall of Winchester, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Rebecca.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel, 86 South Main St., St. Albans. There are no public visiting hours.

GEORGE ALEXANDER MEIGS
COLCHESTER -- George passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on Dec. 29, 1953, in St. Albans, the youngest son of Teresa (Paquette) Meigs and the late Arnold Tullar Meigs.
He was a 1971 graduate of Lamoille Union High School where he served on the student council as well as VICA. For the past several years George was employed by the State of Vermont at the Burlington DMV office. Prior to this, he was associated with the Vermont Whey Company and Wyeth Nutritionals in Georgia, Vermont. He served as a trustee on the Alburg Village Board of Trustees and for the Alburg Public Library. He was a member of the Franklin/Grand Isle Regional Planning Commission. George was also an active member of VGSA.
Survivors include his mother, Teresa Meigs of Cambridge; a brother, David Meigs and his wife, Cindy, of Spring Valley, Calif.; another brother, William Meigs and his wife, Mary, of St. Albans, their children, Justin and his wife, Lori, and their sons, Tyler and Brayden, all of Williston; and son, Jody Meigs of St. Albans; a third brother, John Meigs and his wife, Gina, and daughters, Sara and Tyler, all of Fairfax. George also leaves a sister, Martha Kinney and her husband, James, of Cambridge and their two children, Karen Tibbits and her husband, Jason, of Morrisville and Kevin Kinney of Cambridge; another sister, Cynthia Meigs and partner, Edna Martineau, of Barre and her three children, Jonathan Boozan and his children, Alyssa, Nicholas and Alexander, Elizabeth Boozan and her friend, Eric Small, of Burlington, and Tuller Meigs Schricker of Montpelier. He also leaves an aunt, Francis Paquette, of Alexandria, Va.; numerous cousins; and his special friends and house mates, Randall Violette, John Loso and Travis Finn, with whom he lived for the last few years. His father, Arnold, predeceased him on Jan. 30, 1987.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Debora LaPorte of the Isle La Motte United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. George's family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

A famous wizard once said, "A heart is not measured by how much it loves, but by how much it is loved by others." If this is true, then surely George had a huge heart, because he was greatly loved by so many people. You knew this if you ever went anywhere in public with George. A walk through the Champlain Valley Fair could be a torturously long undertaking. It seemed every few steps brought George face to face to someone with whom he needed catching up and George always caught up.
EVELYN (FOSS) SANBORN
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Evelyn Daisy (Foss) Sanborn, 88, died on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Copley Manor Nursing Home in Morrisville. She was born in Eden on Sept. 18, 1915, daughter of the late Justus and Daisy (Perrin) Foss. Evelyn married Raymond A. Sanborn on Sept. 22, 1931. He predeceased her on Jan. 4, 1972.
She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville, the former Mansfield Chapter 45 OES which is now affiliated with Johnson Chapter 65 OES, and the Out & About Program. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the devoted staff at Copley Manor Nursing Home for the loving care and personal attention Evelyn received during her stay.
She is survived by three children, Joyce Lawrence of Jericho, Louise Lafountain of Jeffersonville, and Philip Sanborn and his wife, Nancy, of Island Pond; one brother, Merrill Foss and his wife, Muriel, of South Burlington; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by a son, Larry Lee Sanborn on Oct. 8, 1991.
There will be no public visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville with the Reverend Jim Ainsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village Cemetery.

BETTY JANE RUELL
COLCHESTER -- Betty Jane Ruell, 76, of Colchester, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her family by her side. Betty was born on Feb. 9, 1927, in Burlington, the daughter of Louis and Dora (Companion) Rivers.
She married Richard Ruell on March 12, 1945, at the Cathedral in Burlington. Together they raised nine children.
In addition to her husband Richard Ruell Sr. of Colchester, Betty is survived by their children and spouses, Michael and Deanna Ruell, Richard Ruell Jr., David and Lynn Ruell, Suzzanne and Bernice Turner, Larry and Brenda Ruell, Walter Ruell, Donna Eisenman, Jean Spence, and Robert Ruell; by her grandchildren Timothy Ruell, Jennifer Huckle, Paul, Laurie and Kevin Ruell, Michelle Leonard, Bryan and Elizabeth Turner, Cherie Ruell, Kim Kraft, Kelly Dodge and Heather Lavery; by 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty enjoyed writing, especially children books, she also enjoyed recording stories for children and her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Colchester. Burial will follow in the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
H. KATHRYN TABOR
SWANTON -- Mrs. H. Kathryn Tabor, age 78, died Sunday morning, Nov. 23, 2003, at her home on Stearns Court, following an extended illness. She was born in Fairfield, Nov. 9, 1925, daughter of the late Emmett and Helen (George) Teague.
Kathryn was employed by New England Telephone Company, later New York Telephone Company, and at the age of 40 received her brokers license for insurance. She was a sales agent at the Clements and Moncsko Insurance Company. In Swanton, she was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was married in St. Patrick's Church in Fairfield on Nov. 24, 1947, to Thomas P. Tabor. Mr. Tabor died Jan. 17, 2003.
Kathryn is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Ellen and Dan Muske of Alburg, Catherine and James Logan of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Susan and Charles Farnum of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; her brother-in-law, Louis Pafundi of Fairfield; sisters-in-law, Mary Teague of Clinton, Conn., and Doris Lamoreaux of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Virginia "Gini" Young of Fairfield. Besides her husband, Tom in January, she was predeceased by her daughter, Teri Tabor; sister, Martha Pafundi; and brothers, Matthew Teague, E. Justin Teague, and Terrance Teague.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church in Fairfield. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

RAYMOND J. SHEPARD
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Raymond J. Shepard, age 98, died Monday morning, Nov. 24, 2003, in The Brownway Residence in Enosburg Falls. He was born in Richford on June 21, 1905, son of the late George H. and Ellen Marie (Dessell) Shepard.
Raymond was employed at S.B. Collins for 42 years and until his retirement in 1970 was employed at General Electric. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 297 and the Fourth Degree Assembly.
Raymond married Antoinette LaValley on Aug. 13, 1929. After over 71 years of marriage, Mrs. Shepard died July 2, 2001.
He is survived by their son, James and his wife Carole Shepard of Swanton; his sister, Marjorie Morrissey of Lebanon, N.H.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Antoinette, Raymond was predeceased by his brothers, George, Henry, Carlton, Harold and Joseph Lawrence Shepard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Interment will follow in the Shepard family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.

DONALD SISCO
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Donald Sisco, 73, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Suffern, N.Y. on Nov. 12, 1930, son of the late Abram and Pearle (Benjamin) Sisco.
Don was a proud United States Navy veteran of the Korean War. He served as a Petty Officer, 3rd Class, Aviation Structural Mechanic aboard the aircraft carriers USS Roosevelt and USS Coral Sea. While a patient in the US Naval Hospital in St. Albans, Long Island, Don met his loving wife, Myrtle, a US Navy Nurse. Don returned to New York after his discharge and worked at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, N.Y., until he joined IBM and moved his family to Jeffersonville in July 1965. He retired in 1990. He was a 49 year member of the American Legion. He joined the Sloatsburg, N.Y. Post after his discharge and served as Post Commander.
After his move to Vermont, he transferred to Mt. Mansfield Post 35 in Cambridge, where he served as Post Commander and then as Service Officer for many years. Don was awarded Life Membership in his post many years ago. Don served The American Legion as Lamoille County Commander, Third District Commander, State Membership Chairman, Department of Vermont Commander, Vermont's National Executive Committeeman, and served also on several other committees. His first loves were his family and the American Legion. He was also an avid fisherman and loved to play poker and cribbage.
In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, Don is survived by, his sons, Gary and his partner Bronwyn Smith of Jeffersonville, and John and his wife Lucy of Blue Hill, Maine; his daughters, Leslyn and her husband Kenneth Pepion of Richland, Wash., and Margaret Sisco and her partner Andrew Frazier of Johnson; three grandchildren, Andrea and Kyle Myers of Jeffersonville and Johnson, and Leah Pepion of Denver, Colo.; his brother and best friend, Alan Sisco and his wife Shelia of Derby; three special friends whom he thought of as sons, Ron Myers of Jeffersonville, Brian "Henry" Wells of Waterville, and Milton Willis, Jr. of Beebe Plain; a niece, two nephews, and several cousins. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends.
There are no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held in the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Peggy Tooker officiating. A reception will follow at the Eagles Club in Jeffersonville.

EFFIE CATHERINE HALL
ST. ALBANS - Effie Catherine Hall, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 22, 2003, at Northwestern Medical Center. Her age will always be her secret. She was born in Brome, Quebec the daughter of Hobart and Alzade A. (Shaw) Glidden. Her husband, Ernest A. Hall died Sept. 27, 1989.
Effie was employed by the American Red Cross, Woolworth's, Doolin's Department Store, Leader Evaporator, St. Albans Free Library, and was a volunteer at the Franklin County Museum. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Friends of St. Albans Free Library. She was a 59-year member and Past Matron of Carlisle Chapter #39, OES, and belonged to the St. Albans Historical Society and the American Red Cross.
Effie is survived by her son, Thomas A. Hall and his wife, Virginia, of St. Albans; nine grandchildren; Gail Tozer Lawson, , Rosemary Tozer DeGhionno, Sam Tozer, Susan Hall McGlone, Sandra Hall Brown, Stephen Hall, Barbara Hall Toof, Thomas M. Hall, and James Hall; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Ernest, she was predeceased by a daughter, Lillian and her husband Kenneth Tozer; a son, Clarence M. "Bud" Hall and his wife, Maxine; and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Rice Hill Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the St. Albans Free Library, Maiden Lane, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, or to the Franklin County Museum, P.O.
