JOHN GRIFFIN FISHER, DDS
ST. ALBANS -- Dr. John G. Fisher passed away peacefully at the Northwestern Medical Center, surrounded by his immediate family on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003. He was born in St. Albans, Aug. 2, 1921, the son of Harold and Elizabeth (Griffin) Fisher.
He spent his early school years at St. Mary's, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1939. He graduated from St. Michael's College in December of 1942. He joined the Army in March of 1943, serving first in New Guinea and then in the Philippines and Japan.
Following his military service, Dr. Fisher attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, graduating in 1950. He practiced dentistry in Enosburg and then in St. Albans for 38 years. He enjoyed sports, his favorites being golf and bowling, and liked a good game of bridge, spending many happy hours at the Owl Club.
John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Pauline (Larivee) Fisher; his daughter, Mary Ann Fisher of St. Albans; son, Matt Fisher, his wife, Nancy, and their children, Jack, Halley, Sam and Caroline Fisher of Shelburne; a sister, Anne Fisher of St. Albans; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Carol Fisher of Burlington; a cousin, Fisher "Babe" Post and his wife, Beverly, of South Burlington; a brother-in-law, James Brady of St. Albans; sisters-in-law, Leona Coderre of Farnham, PQ and Theresa Larivee of Crofton, Md.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Sally Fisher Brady on Aug. 26, 1978.
At Dr. Fisher's request, there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Albans. Interment will follow in the Fisher family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, Inc., 13 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

KERMIT M. BARNEY
SWANTON -- Mr. Kermit Mark Barney, age 57, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 30, 2003, after a short couragous battle with cancer. He was born in Highgate Springs, July 12, 1946, son of George Kenneth and Marion (Rich) Barney.
He married Marilyn Sturgeon on Nov. 15, 1969. He worked most of his life as a carpenter. He liked watching NASCAR racing, old western movies, and talking on his CB radio. The family wishes to thank the staff at Northwestern Medical Center, Vermont Center for Cancer Medicine, and the Radiation Oncology Department at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; his parents George Barney of Franklin and Marion Barney of Swanton; son, Kevin Barney of Swanton; daughter, Karen Nye and her husband Jim of Georgia; brothers Vance Barney and his wife Margaret of Swanton, Rand Barney of Highgate; sisters Darla Blondo and her husband David of Swanton, Cheryl Messier and her husband Armand R. of Highgate Springs; mother-in-law Elizabeth Sturgeon of Sheldon; brother-in-law Gary Sturgeon and wife Theresa of East Highgate; uncle Dick Barney and his wife Sheila of Marietta, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Kermit's request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of his family. There will be no public calling hours. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

ELEANOR MAE SPAULDING
SWANTON--Eleanor Mae Spaulding, 58, a resident of the Sweet Hollow Road in Swanton, died very unexpectedly late Sunday evening, Sept. 28, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
She was born in Barton, Vt., May 8, 1945, the daughter of the late Vernon and Ida (Boutin) Porter. She attended and graduated from Barton Academy. On Feb. 17, 1968 she married Gilbert W. Spaulding who survives her.
Eleanor graduated from the Cosmetology School in Portland, Maine. For the past 26 years has owned and operated Hillside Salon located in her home. A devout Catholic she was an active member of Holy Angels Roman Catholic Parish where she belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne and regularly participated in the parishes Eucharistic Adoration Devotions.
She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who adored her grandchildren. Her customers were a very special part of her life. She especially enjoyed her home, flower gardens and the weekly card party.
In addition to her husband, Gilbert of Swanton, Eleanor leaves three sons, Bradley Spaulding and his wife Jessica of Waterbury, Jon Eric Spaulding of St. Albans and Jay Spaulding and his wife Brittany of Franklin; three grandchildren, Cole, Reid and Luke Spaulding and an anticipated grandchild due in December of this year; her sister, Karen Perry and her husband Steve of St. Albans; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Porter of Bonita Springs, Fla., Dean and Lucille Porter of Brattleboro and Dale and Linda Porter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at 11 a.m. from Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, Lake Street, St. Albans City. The pastor, Father Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton this evening from 6 to 9.

EUGENE E. RICHARDS II (N1TNL)
ST. ALBANS/ESSEX JUNCTION - Eugene Ernest Richards II (Ernie), 79, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Ernie was born June 15, 1924, to the late Eugene E. and Irene (LaFrance) Richard. He lived in St. Albans, graduated from Holy Angels Commercial School and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an air traffic controller in New Guinea. Upon returning home, he graduated from Burlington Business College and met and married Ila Olds.
Ernie worked as an electrical technician at Union Carbide Consumer Products and as an electrical designer/facility engineer at IBM, from which he retired in 1987. He obtained his international ham radio license and was known as N1TNL. He had a true passion for nature and the outdoors which included his love for gardening. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, archer and golfer. Ernie taught a value of honesty, compassion for others, and a strong work ethic to those around him. However, the accomplishment Ernie was most proud of was his five children.
He is survived by his children, Linda Richards Bailey of Colchester, Brenda Richards Cadieux of Georgia Plains, Joseph Richards Rydell and his partner, David Wood, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eugene E. Richards III and his wife, Julie C. Richards, of Burlington, Michael L. Richards and his wife, Jeannie Hill, of Manhattan, N.Y.
He is also survived by grandchildren Captain Scott Cadieux serving with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan and his wife, Laura Cadieux of Manchester, N.H., Brad Cadieux and his significant other, Tania Leal, of Watertown, Mass., Nicole Cadieux and her significant other, Gregg Patenaude, of San Diego, Calif., Melissa Bailey Hellyer and her husband, Derek Hellyer, Melinda Bailey and her significant other, Dan Montani, Sean Bailey, Eugene Richards IV and Stephen Richards, Hunter Rydell-Wood, Alida Richards; great-grandchildren Chelsea Cadieux and Zachary Roy. Other surviving family and friends include the mother of his children, Ila Richards Rouleau of Pittsford, sister-in-law, Denise Richard, dear friend, Jane Tatro, son-in-law, Ronald Cadieux, all of Sheldon; nieces, Diane Laszakovits, Susie Baird, Gina Brown, Lisa and Mary Mazzitelli. Besides his parent he was predeceased by his brother William L. Richard, sister Elizabeth Richard Mazzitelli VanOrnum and a niece, Debbie Mazzitelli Donaldson. He will be missed by his friends at the Quality Bake Shop, The New England Federal Credit Union, and Garry's Barber Shop.
Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in Holy Angels Church. Interment will be in the Richards family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. A gathering will take place at 5 p.m. to celebrate warm memories and stories of Ernie, at 168 Summit St. in Burlington.

MARCEL C. GARCEAU
FAIRFAX -- Mr. Marcel Clifton Garceau, 72, a longtime area resident, passed away at his residence on Thursday evening, Nov. 27, 2003, following an illness of several months. He was born in Swanton on June 30, 1931, the son of the late Henry Ulric and Albina (Garceau) Garceau.
Marcel retired in 1994 from the University of Vermont, where he was employed as a sanitary engineer for 23 years. His previous employments were at the American Sandpaper Co. of Rockland, Mass., where he was a machine operator for 11 years, the Canadian Pacific Railroad repairing boxcars for five years, and Thermal Wire in South Hero. He was a former member of the St. Albans Eagles Club and St. Albans Lodge 1090, Loyal Order of the Moose.
Survivors include two sisters, Doris J. Taylor of Fairfax, with whom he made his home, and Julie Paquette and her husband, Clinton of Swanton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Gould and Camillian Bruyette; and two brothers, Gaston Garceau and Maurice Garceau.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Albans with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Marcel's family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.

THELMA (WRIGHT) FLANDERS
BURLINGTON - Thelma M. Flanders, age 91, left this world surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, to go to be with her Lord. She was born in East Fairfield on July 26, 1912, the daughter of William and Ila Wright. Thelma married Walter Flanders on Jan. 11, 1930, and together they raised 12 children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, her oldest son, Francis, and her sister Wilma (Wright) Snyder.
Thelma is survived by seven daughters: Laura Hamilton of Prescott, Ontario, Mary and Alphonse Gregoire of Colchester, Alice and Clarence Rinehart of San Antonio, Texas, Judy and Donald Gratton of Colchester, Bonnie Benedict and Walt Archacki of Colchester, Jeanne Flanders of South Burlington, Terrie Campbell and Gary Ellis of Winooski; four sons, Simpson (Pat) Flanders of Wilton, N.H., David and Marjorie Flanders of Fletcher, Roy Flanders and Diane Greenwood of Milton, and Steven and Stefi Flanders of Colchester; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great- grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend, Ruth Trevithick of South Burlington.
Thelma loved cooking, reading, and especially gardening and her house plants, for which she won many blue ribbons at the local fair. She was a long term member of St. Stephen's Parish in Winooski, and a +20 gallon donor to the Red Cross. She showed a life long loving dedication to her large family, and will be dearly missed by all.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Birchwood Health Care, and especially Dr. Landry and the staff and residents of C Wing for their love and support given to our mother during the last three years, and to the wonderful nursing staff of MCHV Baird 4 for their tender loving care for our mother and our family in her final days.
A Catholic funeral mass will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in East Fairfield. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 So. Main Street, St. Albans from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28.

PETER ANTHONY FORCELLI
ST. ALBANS, Vt. / RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Peter Anthony Forcelli, age 87, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 27, 2003, at Haven Health Care Nursing Home in St. Albans.
He was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Yonkers, N.Y. the son of the late Antonio and Antoinetta (DiBerardino) Forcelli.
At the age of seven, his family moved to the Branchville Section of Ridgefield, Conn., where he resided for his entire life until 1998 when he moved with his sister, Edith to St. Albans, Vt. Peter worked for 45 years for the Gilbert & Bennett Manufacturing Co. in Georgetown, Conn. retiring in 1977. Peter lived with his sister Edith and her family his entire life. He did not have children of his own but was a beloved and special Uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.
Peter was a long-time fan of the New York Yankees and at the age of 13 he saw Babe Ruth Play. Later in life he enjoyed walking and spending time with his great-grand nieces Rachel and Megan, who were the light of his life. He always dreamed of winning the lottery, but not for himself, but so he could share the money with his family.
He is survived by two sisters, Edith M. Dodd of St. Albans, and Anne Frulla of Washington, Conn.; a brother, John Forcelli of Ridgefield, Conn. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including the following with who he was very close, Suzanne Burt and her husband Basil of Georgia, Vt., Nancy Rodgers and her husband Wade of Alstead, N.H., Eric R. Dodd and his friend Joyce Stowe of Enosburg, Vt., Melissa Buckley, her husband Doug and their daughters, Rachel and Megan all of Georgia, Vt., Jason Burt and his wife Christina of Georgia, Vt., Lisa Methven and James Methven both of Alstead, N.H.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon Nov. 30, 2003, at 2 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
There will be a time of visitation on Sunday afternoon from 1 until the hour of the funeral at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
