JEAN M. GONYEA
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Jean Mae Gonyea, 71, went to meet her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with all her family by her side. She was born in Randolph on June 29, 1932, daughter of the late John and Ramona (Davis) Woolley.
Jean was raised in Vermont and in her later years resided part-time during the winter months in Winter Haven, Fla. and the summer months in Jeffersonville, Vt. She was a graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1949. She found great pleasures in life through her children, Jackie, Tom, and Jerry as well as her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her angel babies. She loved babies, the miracles of life. Jean was a wonderful sister and friend. She is remembered by her red hair, lipstick, her laughter, and unconditional love to all. Jean brought out and found the best in all of us.
She is survived by two sons, Tom Fonda and Penny Corey of East Fairfield, and Gerald Laventure and his wife, Kimberly, of Bethany, Okla.; a daughter, Jackie Cushing and her husband, Nelson, of Jeffersonville; a brother, Everett Woolley and his wife, Margaret, "Peggy" of Woodstock; two sisters, Evelyn Drinkwine and her husband, Richard, of Colchester, and Marilee Seymour and her husband, Richard, of Jeffersonville; her close companion, Wayne "Woody" Woods of Florida; four grandchildren, Cheri Cushing and Shannon Sleeper of Cambridge, Jason Cushing, Ryan Cushing, Blane Fonda; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Cushing-Sleeper; two step great-grandchildren, Calvin and Dilan Sleeper; her first husband, Harold Fonda of Mass.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and "Baby Girl Tick."
She was also predeceased by her second husband Ernest Laventure, and her third husband, Marcel Gonyea.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 this evening, Oct. 6, 2003, at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville with Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Waterville.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's memory to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

MARJORIE H. HEATH
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Marjorie H. Heath, age 79, died late Saturday evening, Oct. 4, 2003, at the Holiday House Nursing Facility. She was born in Sheldon, March 3, 1924, daughter of the late Richard and Stella (Greenwood) Hoose. In 1943, she married Clifford James Heath, who died in 1964.
Her survivors include her son Clifford and his wife, Sylvia, Heath of Hinsdale, N.H.; sisters, Rena Bruley of St. Albans, Alice Heath and Peggy Hoose, both of Rutland, Mary Aiken of Newport, and Betty Mack of Florida; brothers, James and his wife, Joyce Hoose, of Highgate, Richard and his wife, Elaine Hoose, of Putney; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Helen Raymond; and brothers, Rudolph Hoose and Alvin Hoose.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel at 86 South Main St., St. Albans. Father Dennis Hayward, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church will officiate. There will be no public calling hours.
Interment will be private Tuesday afternoon in the Heath family lot in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Putney.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
ROWENA "HAZEL" WRIGHT
SWANTON - Mrs. Rowena Hazel Wright, 89, a resident of Greenwich Street in Swanton Village for more than 50 years joined her husband Richard in their heavenly home late Thursday evening, Oct. 2, 2003.
Hazel was born in Franklin, June 1, 1914, the daughter of the late Lewis and Elizabeth (Longe) Pelkey. She attended East Fairfield Schools.
During World War II she moved to Connecticut and worked several years as a gage inspector of fifty caliber machine guns for Colt Patent Fire Arms of Hartford. She was a very proud member of Rosie's Riveters. It was during that time that she met Richard I. Wright. They married on Oct. 1, 1945, and Richard predeceased her Sept. 14, 1982.
After moving to Swanton she became very active in the community. In earlier years she studied and became part of the area's first home health care program. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for Swanton Pack 53 and was a member of the former St. Anne's Academy Mothers Club. She also worked at the former Taylor's Route 7 Dairy Bar in Swanton as well as Stollman's Clothing Store, Kaye's Shoe Store and Lorraine's Fashions all in St. Albans. Hazel will especially be remembered by many for her delicious donuts and Saturday evenings her home was a favorite gathering place for many local and state police officers.
She has been an active and devoted parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary where was a member of the Altar Society, The Ladies of St. Anne and taught in the parish Religious Education Program. She also belonged to the Grandma's and Grandpa's Choral Group, the Northwestern Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteered many hours in area nursing homes and for the American Cancer Society Annual Campaign.
Hazel leaves her daughter, Brenda Scripture and her husband Philip of Georgia; two sons, Richard B. Wright and his wife Mary of Swanton and Douglas L. Wright and his wife Anne of St. Albans. Also surviving are grandchildren, Marybeth Nichols and her husband Kevin, Brian Wright and his girlfriend Stephanie Neal, Kelly Wright and Dr. Charity Scripture; and a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Mary Nichols; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Gilbert, Clara Geddes and Marjorie Pelkey; and brothers, Lynford, Harold, Ralph and Howard Pelkey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at 10 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Joseph T. Sullivan will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the family lot in Egypt Cemetery in East Fairfield.
Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in "Hazel's" memory to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.
A luncheon reception will take place following the committal services on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Nativity Parish Center.
ROGER N. CHAGNON
ST. ALBANS - Roger N. Chagnon, 63, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at his home following a brief illness. He was born in St. Albans on Jan. 12, 1940, the son of the late Laurence and Jennie (Ryan) Chagnon. On Aug. 14, 1976, he married the former Esther Sweeney.
Roger was employed for over 30 years at R. L. Vallee and Ultramar as a propane serviceman. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary's High School where he was involved in football, basketball, and baseball. He was an avid cribbage player and was camp champ. He was also a former member of St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E.
Besides his wife Esther, he is survived by his children, Bruce E. Chagnon of Highgate, Kevin L. Chagnon and his wife Rachel of Venice, Florida, Dennis J. Greene of Georgia, Deborah J. Chagnon of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Bonnie M. Hogan and her husband Patrick Hogan, Jr. of Georgia, and Deana G. Brown and her husband Samuel G. Brown, III of St. Albans; a brother, Robert (Soy) Chagnon and his wife Edna of St. Albans; two sisters-in-law, Sandra T. Chagnon of St. Albans and Ann Chagnon of Chicago, Ill.; his grandchildren, Danielle M. and Ryan P. Hogan, Kylee B. and Bailey C. Chagnon, and Samantha R. Brown; his in-laws, Eleanor and Marshall Sears, Dawn Boomhower and Rick Brown, Michael and Diana Sweeney, Barbara and John Arenovski, Rachel and Robert Cadieux, and Wally and Patricia Sweeney; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Arnold Chagnon; his twin brother Ronald Chagnon; and a niece Wendy Chagnon.
At Roger's request, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Georgia Plain Baptist Church. Interment will be in Georgia Plain Cemetery.

CHARLES WINSLOW GATES
FRANKLIN -- Charles Winslow Gates, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at his farm, Wednesday evening, Oct. 1, 2003.
Charles was born March 29, 1928, in St. Albans, the son of the late Paul and Vera (Horne) Gates. He attended school in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1946. He attended Norwich University and graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1952. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Army in 1952 as a second lieutenant.
Charles married Priscilla Dewing on Aug. 4, 1951, at the East Franklin Union Church in East Franklin, Vt.
Charles served in Germany from 1952 to 1954. After being honorably discharged in 1954 he returned to Franklin to resume managing the Franklin Electric Light Company, Telephone Company, and his greatest pleasure, the family farm and his registered Jersey cows. He relinquished management of the telephone company to his brother Hugh in 1963 and management of the electric light company to his brother David in 1976. He continued to run the farm in partnership with his brother Hugh until 1976.
Charles managed the farm for the next 21 years, retiring in the fall of 1997. At this time he and Priscilla traveled cross-country to California to visit his extended family. He loved exploring caves and visiting dams and national parks on his trip.
Charles loved his family and his time with them more than anything. His children and his grandchildren gave him great joy and he and Priscilla were happiest when surrounded by them.
Charles took great pride and pleasure in many things. Among these were: helping his family and friends; passing out candy to the many children he knew and loved; card parties; sugaring; clearing and improving the land; and watching his children's and grandchildren's sports and other activities.
Charles was a staunch Republican and was a member of the Franklin Congregational Church. He was also a director of the Vermont Jersey Cattle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Dewing) Gates of Franklin; eight children and their spouses, George and Becky Gates of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Gregg and Patty Gates, Paul and Diane Gates, Robert and Cindy Gates, and Gerald and Wanda Gates all of Franklin, Polly and Richard Fennessey of Windham, N.H., Donald and Martine Gates of Franklin, and Mary and Michael Viens of Berkshire; his grandchildren, Sara, Norman, Maggee, Brenna, Ashley, Emma, Mandi, Karen, Kathryn, Thomas, Bobbie, Katie, Harrison, Brendan, Bethany, Mary, Mae and Charlie, also expected in January, Luc; a brother and his wife, Hugh and Cynthia Gates; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Gates; three brothers, Paul, Geoffrey and David Gates; three sisters, Jane Merriam, Mary Gates, and Marjorie Irish.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Franklin Congregational Church with Pastor Clifford Christensen officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

RUDY IVES
COLCHESTER -- Rudy Ives, 25, of Colchester, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003.
Rudy leaves his mother, Judith Aldrich of St. Albans. He was predeceased by his father, Rudolph Ives Sr. Rudy also leaves six brothers, his closest brother, Chad, Steve, Tommy, Randy, Brian and Ronnie. He leaves seven sisters, Peggy, Sherry, Cindy, Sandy, Diane, Bonnie and Linda. Also, several nieces and nephews.
Rudy especially loved being with his family during the holidays. He attended schools in St. Albans and Colchester.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at noon in the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Howard Center for Human Services for the Chittenden Family Treatment Court Program, 208 Flynn Avenue, Burlington, Vt. 05401.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ready Funeral Home, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, South Burlington.
LORRAINE A. MORANCY
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION -- Lorraine A. Morancy, 76, died Thursday at her home surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born in Johnson, Vt., on Dec. 23, 1926, a daughter of Homor and Lula (Driscoll) Coan. She attended school in Johnson, graduating in 1945, and attended college in Boston, Mass. On April 29, 1946, she was married to Walter O. Morancy of Morrisville, they lived in Johnson until moving to White River Junction in 1952, where they have lived since. She was a bookkeeper for Shepard Corp. and Rouse Transportation, both in White River Junction, as well as other area businesses.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in White River Junction and enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of White River Junction; two daughters, Melody Martin of Wilder and Cathy Moloney of North Hartland; a son, Walter W. Morancy of Claremont, N.H.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Howard Coan.
There will be no calling hours. There will be a family gathering at their home on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White River Methodist Church, 106 Gates St., White River Junction, Vt. 05001.
