ALICE "TERRY" WELSH
GRAND ISLE -- Alice "Terry" Welsh, 61, a resident of Grand Isle, died at her home late Tuesday evening, Oct. 21, 2003.
Born in Bowie, Md. on Dec. 13, 1941, to John and Rose (O'Buckley) Weiler, she spent her childhood in Horseheads, N.Y. and attended high school there. A 1964 graduate of Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., Terry received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music. On June 15, 1963, she married Brian James Welsh, who survives her. Terry attended Suffolk County Community College in Long Island, N.Y., where she received a degree as a Registered Nurse in 1983.
A resident of the Grand Isle area for more than 20 years, Terry was an extremely active member of the community. She worked for the Visiting Nurse Association as a registered nurse in their Home Care Program. She was a member of the North Hero United Methodist Church, serving as its choir director for many years. In addition, she was the music director for the North Hero Village Players and a director of the Grand Isle County Chorus. Terry also taught piano and voice from her home and served the county as Assistance Chief of the Grand Isle Rescue Squad.
In addition to her husband, Brian, of Grand Isle, Terry leaves her mother, Mrs. Rose Weiler of St. Albans, Vt. and Crownsville, Md.; two sons, James John Welsh, his wife, Diane, and their four children, Matthew, Jake, Daniel, and Rebecca, all of Charlottesville, Va., and Theodore Michael Welsh, and his wife, Patti, of Quincy, Mass.; a daughter, Martha Grace Hoehl, her husband, John, and children Jack and Grace, all of South Burlington, Vt.; one brother, John Weiler, Jr. and his wife, Raellen, of Crownsville, Md.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Ed Potter of Texas, and Karen and Robert Etlin of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Terry was predeceased by her father and by two sisters, Jeanne Stewart and Mary Ann Ruetten.
Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Aven., Swanton, Vt., on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the North Hero United Methodist Church, U.S. Route 2, North Hero Village, Vt., with the Reverend David Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Hyde Cemetery.

WILLIAM L. ROCQUE
MILTON -- William L. Rocque, 85, of Cherry Street, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 2003, in the Birchwood Terrace Extended Care Facility in Burlington.
Mr. Rocque was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Grand Isle, the son of William and Olive Bleau Rocque. He was employed as a plant manager for Borden's Dairy in Burlington for several years. An avid outdoorsman, Bill loved to hunt and fish.
He was married to Margaret Emery who predeceased him. He then married Exilda M. Rocque who survives him.
Besides his wife of Milton, he is survived by his stepson, Robert Emery and his wife, Anne, of Milton; six grandchildren, Anette, Nancy, Liza, Katherine, Bobby and Molly; and his two sisters, Arietta Patnode of Essex Junction and Rose Desjardin of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Rocque; and two sisters, Eva Ferris and Frances Allicino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Richmond.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with prayers being offered at 8:45 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Milton.
EDITH M. THIBAULT
COLCHESTER -- Edith M. Thibault, 104, of Lexington Road, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 21, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Edith was born Nov. 6, 1898, in St. Albans, the daughter of George and Katherine Thibault Bonyea. In 1914 she married David J. Thibault in Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Albans. He predeceased her on Dec. 31, 1992.
During World War II she worked as a seamstress in New York making gloves for the soldiers serving their country. She later worked for William Press as a copyholder for nine years.
She is survived by her son, Charles Thibault and his wife, Evelyn, of Swanton; and her two daughters, Loretta M. Desso of Colchester and Lucille Desomreaux and her husband, Marcel, of Shelburne; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Floyd in 1926 and Kenneth in 1934; son-in-law, Wilfred Deso on Aug. 25, 1954; four brothers, Edward, Freddy in 1914, Albert in 1978 and Raymond in 1983 and her sister, Helen Hill in 1976. She was also predeceased by three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home Route 7, Milton. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albans.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St. Montpelier, Vt. 05602-3021.

KATHLEEN A. FAIRBANKS
ST. ALBANS BAY -- Kathleen A. Fairbanks, 85, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003. She was born in St. Jean, Quebec on Aug. 29, 1918, the daughter of the late Carmi and Alice (Badger) Fay. She was the widow of Alvin H. Fairbanks, who passed away on Jan. 14, 1982.
Survivors include her three sons, Kenneth Fairbanks and his wife, Linda, of Highgate, Allen Fairbanks and his wife, Ruth, of Richford and Robert Fairbanks and his wife, Marilyn, of St. Albans; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Hazel Stewart, Marjorie Sweet and Thelma Fay; and four brothers, Laurence Fay, Wallace Fay, Floyd Fay and Allen Fay.
A funeral service will held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, with the Reverend Oren Lane of St. Paul's United Methodist Church officiating. Kathleen's family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

JEAN A. SULLIVAN
SWANTON -- Mrs. Jean A. Sullivan, age 81, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in Swanton, Aug. 11, 1922, daughter of the late Ernest and Jessie (Camp) Gladden. On Aug. 9, 1941, she married Donald W. Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan died Jan. 12, 1994.
Jean enjoyed camping at the lake for many years. She also enjoyed all kinds of crafts, including ceramics, rug hooking, cross stitching, and knitting.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Sullivan of Nepean, Ontario; her son, David J. Sullivan of St. Albans; grandson, Donald J. Sullivan of St. Albans; brother, Raymond Gladden of Georgia; sisters, Shirley Gladden of St. Albans, and Donna and her husband Al Daidone of Vero Beach, Fla. Jean will also be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law and their spouses, Lorraine Sullivan, Geraldine and Clement LaFlam, Kathleen and Robert Smith, Patricia Fielding, and special people in her life, Diana Westover, Dorothy Prieur of Nepean, Ont., Eva Boudreau of Swanton, and all of the others at Church Street Housing, and Samantha Mitchell of the Franklin County Home Health Agency; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Naomi Gardner, Grace Bellinger, Doris Dumond, Marian Cross; and her brother, Bernard Gladden.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 p.m. until the funeral time Friday.
Interment will be in the Sullivan family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

HELEN LORETTA DUPREY
SWANTON Mrs. Helen Loretta Duprey, 91, a longtime resident of 39 Platt St. in Swanton Village, died early Saturday evening, Oct. 18, 2003, in Redstone Villa in St. Albans City.
She was born in Cornwall, Sept. 7, 1912, the daughter of the late James and Loretta (Highter) Parish. She attended schools in New Haven and Bristol, and on Nov. 6, 1934 married Clarence Bernard Duprey Sr. who predeceased her on Jan. 1, 1976.
Mrs. Duprey will always be remembered as an avid Atlanta Braves fan and for her love of reading, watching her soap operas and gardening.
Mrs. Duprey leaves two daughters, Shirley Banyea and her husband, Henry, of Highgate Falls, and Diana Thuot and her husband, Richard, of Chatham, N.H. Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Duprey of Highgate Center; six grandchildren, Mark Banyea and his companion Paula Greenia of Highgate Center, Brenda Witham and her husband, Ronald, of Highgate Center, Sharon Lontine and her husband, Bobby, of Swanton, Scott Duprey and his companion, T.C., of Sheldon, Brian Duprey of Highgate Center and Laurie Ann DeWitt and her husband, Shawn of New Hampshire; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer Banyea and friend Brian, Jody Banyea and companion Leigh, Josh Banyea and companion Ginny, Holden Banyea and Amanda Lee Witham all of Highgate, Kari Velma Lontine of Swanton and Liana DeWitt and companion Dana and Ricky DeWitt of New Hampshire, one great-great-grandson, Dillon Joshua John Banyea of Highgate Center and a very special friend, Roberta Perry of Swanton as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Ann Moore on Nov. 8, 1994; and a son, Clarence Bernard Duprey Jr. on June 27, 2003.
At Mrs. Duprey's request there will be no public calling hours. Funeral services and interment in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Swanton Village will be private and at the families convenience .

ANDREW W. CHICOINE
JERICHO -- Andrew William Chicoine, 24, died unexpectedly on Oct. 19, 2003, at his home in Jericho. He was born in Burlington on June 7, 1979, son of Lawrence and Mary (Baillargeon) Chicoine.
Andrew graduated from Mt. Mansfield High School, class of 1998, and was a member of the school wrestling team. He loved to camp, always looking forward to the many family camping trips and was especially fond of Cumberland State Park in New York. He was a wonderful son, father, brother, and friend. Andrew's family and his many friends will miss his sparkling eyes and sweet smile.
He is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Chicoine of Underhill; Ashley Germaine and Andrew's daughter Katelyn of Colchester; his brother, Scott Chicoine of Jericho; his sister, Michele Chicoine of Underhill; his paternal grandparents, William and Amanda Chicoine of Garden City, S.C.; his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Shirley Baillargeon of Underhill; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Fairfax. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cambridge with Reverend Dan Jordan, celebrant. Interment will follow in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery, Fairfax.

LEILA O. LAPLANT
ALBURG -- Ms. Leila O. LaPlant, age 70, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Hartland, Vt., daughter of the late Clinton and Elizabeth (Young) LaPlant. Leila worked at the Ethan Allen Furniture Factory, other factories, and was more recently a homemaker in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Gabree, Sr. of Alburg; her four children, Edmund E. Gabree, Sr. and his wife Andrea, Elizabeth Boudreau and her friend Steve Scott, Dennis Gabree all of Alburg, and Donald Gabree, Jr. of St. Albans; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel, 86 South Main Street, on Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours.

RICHARD H. KELLEY
BAKERSFIELD -- Richard H. Kelley, 73, of Bakersfield, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in St. Albans. He was born in Enosburg on March 17, 1930, the son of Clarence and Florence (Archambault) Kelley.
Richard was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force and was employed at Hagar Machine Shop, retiring in 1992. His favorite hobby was going to and having yard sales.
He is survived by his children: sons, David Kelley and his wife, Monica, of Franklin, Andrew Kelley of St. Johnsbury; daughters, Nancy Myers and her husband, Raymond, of Milton, and Patricia Woodworth and her husband, Peter, also of Milton; brothers, Wilbur Kelley and his wife, Phyllis, of St. Albans, and Gordon Kelley of Sheldon; sisters, Grace Minor of Manchester, N.H., and Veronica Monette of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Angela Kelley, Amy and Wayne Whitney, Nicholas Woodworth, Jill, Mariya and Josh Kelley, and Andrew Kelley Jr. He also has a great-granddaughter, Madison Whitney. He is predeceased by his brother, Lyle; his son, Kevin; and his former wife, Lorraine; and a sister, Mary Ann.
Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9. Funeral services will take place at the Funeral Home on Thursday morning at 10, with Father Benedict Kiely officiating. Interment will be held at St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield.
