THOMAS V. PICKERING
ST. ALBANS -- Thomas V. Pickering, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at Haven Health Care after a lengthy illness. He was born on Nov. 6, 1917, in Roslyn, L.I. to Thomas and Ann (Kammerer) Pickering.
Tom served proudly during World War II in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Long Island Lighting Co. until his retirement in 1980. He was a proud member of the Roslyn, Williston Park and Cutchogue Fire Departments and a member of the Cutchogue Fire Department's racing team and marching band. Tom enjoyed working with youth and coached many little league teams. He was a founder of the Williston Park Recreation Dept. and community swimming pool. He was instrumental in the formation of "Operation Santa Claus" which brought gifts to children at Christmas time. After moving to Cornelia, Ga. in 1980, he founded a food bank called Sharing and Caring.
Tom is survived by his sister and best friend, Elizabeth Morrell of Rushville, Ind.; his four children and their spouses, James and Laura Pickering of St. James, N.Y., Michael Pickering of Port Washington, N.Y., Maureen and Greg Sodaro of Franklin, Vt., and Colleen and Roger Clark of Southold, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.
Special thanks to the caring staff at Haven Health Care of whom he was very fond. You made each day special.
Military services will be held at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I. on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at 1 p.m.

LAWRENCE H. PARSONS
FAIRFAX -- Mr. Lawrence H. "Larry" Parsons, age 73, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 28, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Colchester, June 11, 1930, son of the late Howard and Freda (Irish) Parsons.
He graduated from B.F.A., Fairfax, and served his country in the United States Air Force. During the Korean War Larry was an airplane and engine mechanic. Larry returned home in 1952 to assist in the family business. Larry was the meat manager and a clerk for H.C. Parsons & Sons Store in Fairfax for many years. He later was employed on the meat department of several grocery stores including Gaudette's, Colodny's, Guay's Market, Cambridge Mart and Brosseau Stores. Larry served in the Fairfax Fire Department for over 50 years, being the Chief from 1970 to 1978. He was active with the Fairfax Rescue Squad from its inception. He assisted Albert Rich in the A.W. Rich Funeral Home, Allen Choiniere when he had the Rich Funeral Home, and Lucien Hayes in the operations of the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. For a short time Larry worked for the Northwestern Medical Center in the maintenance operations.
Larry was a member of the Masonic Order Lamoille Lodge 6, F. & A. M. Larry was a NASCAR fan and raced stock cars at Catamount Raceway. He held a pilot license and flew his own plane for many years. He was a member of the Fairfax Historical Society and president of the Friendly Neighbors Senior Citizens. Larry served as the Truant Officer for Fairfax and conducted tours for the students on school trips.
Aug. 15, 1951, he married Carolyn T. Thoes. Besides his wife of over 52 years, Carry Parsons, R. N., of Fairfax, he is survived by their four children, Lawrence "Tex" Parsons, Jr., of Fairfax, Charles E. and his wife Gail of Keene, N.H., Susan Parsons of St. Albans, and David R. and his wife Linda Parsons of Clifton Parks, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Drew Parsons of Dover, N.H., Christopher Parsons and Katelyn Parsons both of Clifton Parks, N.Y.; his brother, Harold "Bud" and his wife Judy Parsons of Fairfax; his brother-in-law, Edward and his wife Evelyn Thoes of Athens Texas; sister-in-law, Earlene Glaser of Phoenix, Ariz.; special friends Albert and Lois Wilcox of Munson, Mass., Jean and Ray Smith of St. Albans Bay; his canine companion Tilley; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Fairfax Fire Station. Pastor Elizabeth Griffin, of the Fairfax United Methodist Church, will officiate. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in the Parsons family lot in Sanderson Corner Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Fairfax Fire Department or Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 228, Fairfax, Vt. 05454.

RICHARD A. QUEBEC
SWANTON -- Richard A. Quebec, 79, a longtime resident of 36 Platt Street in Swanton Village, died Monday morning, Oct. 27, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City.
Born at home in Swanton he was the son of the late Ernest and Frances (Bohannon) Quebec. He attended Swanton High School and on Feb. 26, 1949, married the former Maxine Bourgeois who survives him.
For 27 years Richard had been associated with the former Union Carbide Corporation of St. Albans. He faithfully served his country in World War II in the United States Navy assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, 1 Star, American Theater Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton and the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 of St. Albans. He was also a Life Member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090 of St. Albans and was a devoted parishioner of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton.
Richard will always be remembered for the extraordinary vegetable gardens that he planted each year and for his love of duck hunting and fishing.
In addition to his devoted wife Maxine of 54 years Richard leaves his sister, Irene Little of Hardwick; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Quebec, Pauline Duchanno and Lillian Bourgeois, all of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Robert Quebec; and a sister, Evelyn Letourneau predeceased him.
At Richard's request there will be no public calling hours. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at 1 p.m. from the Quebec family lot in Riverside Cemetery Swanton. The Reverend Donald Morris, Rector of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Swanton will officiate.

BARBARA GRUSH
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Barbara Webb Grush, age 81, of South Hadley, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003. She was the wife of the late Merton E. (Dick) Grush, who died in 1966.
Mrs. Grush was raised in St. Albans, Vt. and graduated from Bellows Free Academy. She received a B.S. degree from the University of Vermont and a Master's Degree from the Boston University School of Social Work. She was a Navy WAVE in World War II, and worked as a lab technician in the Navy hospital.
She was a past president of Know Your Town of South Hadley, and joined the First Congregational Church of South Hadley in 1999. Mrs. Grush worked part time as a Clinical Social Worker at the Westfield Detention Center in 1963, and retired after 20 years from the Area Mental Health Center in Holyoke, Mass., now known as the River Valley Counseling Center.
Barbara was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, a Diplomat in Clinical Social Work, and a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Krainski and her husband Jim of Ware, Mass., Cynthia Wood and her husband Fred of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pamela Carithers and her husband Bob of South Hadley, Mass.; a son, John Grush and his wife Tamara of West Dover, Vt.; a sister, Arlene Barnes and her husband Walt of Virginia; and her good friend, Dury Pilon of Chicopee. A fourth daughter, Rebecca, died in 1979. Mrs. Grush had seven grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Jim Krainski, Jenny Krainski-Plant, Meg Krainski, Jessica Krainski, Katina Grush and Tristan Grush; along with one great-grandchild, Chance Plant.
Calling hours were held on Sept. 22, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in the Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley, Mass., with a funeral service following in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Burial was held in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Hadley.

HENRIETTA M. "JOE" SWEET
FAIRFIELD -- Henrietta M. "Joe" Sweet, age 94, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 23, 2003, at her home as she wished, surrounded by her family and friends. She was able to stay at home because of the loving care of her granddaughter, Pattie-Ann, and a daughter of her heart, Lisa Phillips.
She was born Sept. 13, 19009, in Swanton, the daughter of the late Herbert and Lina (Parrott) Therrien.
Henrietta had a great love for birds, flowers, just being outdoors, and walking through the woods. She especially loved her family. She was a kind-hearted soul that was loved by all whom knew her.
She lives in the memories and hearts of those who survive her: her nine children, Raymond Sweet of Fairfield, Frederick Sweet of Fairfield, Gordon Sweet of East Highgate, George Sweet and his wife, Linda, of La Grande, Ore. Ethel Sweet of St. Albans, Shirley Burnor and her husband, Terrance, of Wilberham, Mass., Robert Sweet Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Sheldon, Dorothy Draper of St. Albans, Ronnie Sweet and his wife, Carol, of Georgia; her sister, Blanche Jutras of Burlington; her brother, Edward Therrien of Franklin; her many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; her former daughters-in-law, Barbara (Lewis) Emch of Sheldon, Daisy (Heath) Paradis of St. Albans, and Sylvia (Hebert) Sweet of La Grande, OR; as well as other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Sweet, in 1972; her brothers and sisters, Lenora, Agnes, Geraldine, Elwin, Cornelia, Gilbert, Lucille, Dorothy and Charlotte.
In keeping with Henrietta's wishes, there will be no funeral services or calling hours. A private graveside committal will be held at the convenience of the family at the family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

IZOLA E. BLAISDELL
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Izola E. Blaisdell, age 92, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, Oct. 25, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born June 30, 1911, in Fletcher, the daughter of the late Emerson & Fluella (Wetherbee) Spaulding.
Izola was the last surviving member of the BFA-Fairfax class of 1930. She was a 1932 graduate of Johnson Normal School, after which she taught in a one room schools house in Fletcher for three years. Izola then married and began her life fulfilling vocation of wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker which she achieved with the respect of all.
For several years Izola cooked at Camp Missisquoi and she will always be remembered as a wonderful cook. She was also an active member of the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the Grange since the age of 14 in Fletcher and Enosburg, and had held the office of Lady Assistant Steward for several years. Izola was also a member of the Martha Washington Chapter OES and was the Grand Representative of Nebraska in Vermont. She was a member of the Franklin Lamoille Retired Teachers Association.
Izola is survived by her husband, Willard, whom she married Aug. 21, 1934; two sons, Emerson Blaisdell of Enosburg Falls, and Kermit Blaisdell and his wife, Lois, of Colchester; three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Robert Lemnah of Burlington, Patricia and Ernest Ross of Memphis, Tenn., and Deborah and Alan Grandshaw of Enosburg Falls; her eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband, Stephen Hu, and their children, Bryon and Meredith; Alisha and her husband, Michael Adams, and their children, Abigail, Alizabeth, Adianna and Michael Adams; Anissa and her husband, Christopher Seguin, and their children, Ross, Emily and Samuel Seguin, Alexa and her husband, Scott Harrison, and their children, Austin and Ashley Harrison, Aneda Ross and her husband, Phillip Murray, and their children, Zachary, Vallary and Hillary; Jesse Grandshaw; Rebekah Blaisdell and Sarah Blaisdell; two sisters-in-law, Marion Spaulding and Ardelle Spaulding; and several nieces and nephews, including Eva and Tom Lancaster with whom Emerson has spent a great deal of time. Izola was predeceased by her son, Dean Blaisdell; two grandchildren, Jennifer Lemnah and April Ross; three brothers, Wetherbee, Harmon, and Wesley Spaulding; and three sisters, Madeline Chase, Mona Hooper and Vera Sweet.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday morning at 10 at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at the Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher. There will be no visiting hours.

LIONEL J. SMITH
ST. ALBANS -- Lionel J. Smith, 80 years of age, died Oct. 25, 2003, at the Holiday House in St. Albans, after a long illness and a short bout of cancer. He was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Franklin, to Herbert and Rose Smith.
He was a dairy farmer in his younger days and a stone crusher for Lucien Demers for 18 years and a hollow metal worker for Harry Ambrose for 13 years.
He is survived by his only daughter, Shirley S. McNabb of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren, Christopher H. Taylor and wife, Tracy, of Concord, N.H., Mark C. Johnson of Concord, N.H. and Everett C. Johnson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two step-grandchildren, Bradley Johnson of Concord, N.H. and R. Stephen Johnson of Concord, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Benton, Hunter and Parker Taylor of Concord N.H., Breanna and Trevor Johnson of Concord, N.H.; and one step-great-grandchild Gregory Johnson of Concord, N.H.; a godchild, Denise Allain of St. Albans, Vt. He is also survived by two sisters, Eva Rheaume of Georgia, Vt. and Mary St. Pierre of Fairfield, Vt. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa, of 49 years, in 1993; four sisters, Helen, Virginia, Alice, and Noella; and two brothers, Joe and Noel.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Holy Angles Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Burial immediately follows at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

CHRISTINA WEIR NASH
ST. ALBANS -- Christina Weir Nash, 93, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at the Haven Health Care Facility. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, Aug. 25, 1910, the daughter of the late James Ferguson and Agnes (McMillan) Weir.
On Dec. 27, 1941, she was married to Lt. Colonel (Ret.) John Edward Nash, who died on Jan. 18, 1978.
Mrs. Nash was formerly Executive Secretary of the Commercial Department at Edmunds High School in Burlington, Executive Secretary of the Finance Office at Camp San Luis Obispo in California, and was employed for several years at Drinkwater's Jewelry Store in St. Albans.
Mrs. Nash, a resident of St. Albans since 1946, was a member of the First Congregational Church where she was a Past President of the Women's Fellowship and a member of the Fireside Club. She was also Past President of the Franklin County Business and Professional Women and a member of the Autonoe Club. Additionally, her memberships include; Service Seekers Circle of the Kings Daughters, Midway Home Demonstration Group, Franklin County Historical Society and Friends of the St. Albans Free Library.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Allen and Deborah Johnson Nash, and a granddaughter, Kenna Elizabeth Nash, all of Plattsburgh, N.Y. She is remembered fondly by several cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a niece, Janice D. Hagen; and a nephew, Joseph Braddy Hobbs.
A Memorial Service was held today, Oct. 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Judy Kennedy, Pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. Mrs. Nash's family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment was in the Nash family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery.
