MARGARET VIOLA CUSSON

ST. ALBANS CITY -- Margaret Viola Cusson, born April 3, 1924, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2003, in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends, and joined her husband, Robert George Cusson Sr., of 52 years in the arms of the Lord.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents Rueben and Alma (Vaughn) Wells.

Margaret was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Her greatest joys in life were her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bingo and especially playing cards. She loved having family gatherings, which have left us with many beautiful memories.

She is survived by her sister, Nettie Cusson, and her daughter, a very special niece, Mary Jane Bessette of St. Albans; and a brother Morton Wells of Melrose, N.Y.; as well as many nieces, nephews and additional family members.

She leaves behind a son, Robert Cusson, Jr., and his wife, Janet, of Waterveliet, N.Y.; daughters Linda Tuttle and longtime companion, Theodore Dane, of St. Albans, Paulette Brothers and husband, Robert, of Colchester, Sandra McSweeney and companion, Timothy King, of St. Albans and a daughter, and very special angel to our family, Catherine Moore, and her companion, Richard J. Peters, of St. Albans.

She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Among them are grandsons Mathieu and Justin Cusson of Waterveliet, N.Y., Josh Dane and companion Jaimi Tharpe, of St. Albans; granddaughter Lorie Guilmette, great-grandson Chris Guilmette, Mark Tuttle and companion, Stephanie Boivin, of St. Albans, two great-grandsons Jake and Evin Tuttle, two special friends Dillon and Hunter Boivin of St. Albans, Michael Tuttle and his wife, Tina and great grandson Alyx, and great-granddaughter Kerry Tuttle of St. Albans, granddaughter Angel Baldwin and husband, Dave; and great-granddaughters Victoria, Hayleigh, and Emma Baldwin of Burlington; grandson Jodi Doyle and wife, Lauren, of Georgia; Eddie Doyle Jr. of Burlington; and two granddaughters Hannah Nolin and Megan McSweeney; and grandson Nicholas McSweeney; and two special friends Lyndsey and Timothy King Jr. of St. Albans; grandson Israel Moore and wife, Petra, and great-granddaughter Hailey Moore of North Carolina; grandson Steven Moore and companion, Cheryl Kaipainen, and daughter, Casey, of Ohio; great-grandson Andrew Moore; and great-granddaughter Autumn Bruley of St. Albans.

She also leaves behind a special friend and second daughter Debra Jablonski, who was always there for mom and the family with lots of love and caring. A very special thank you to the management and staff of Redstone Villa in St. Albans City.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1997; a brother Archie Wells and sister-in-law Ruth Wells of Waterveliet, N.Y.; a sister, Doris Bard and brother-in-law Harold Bard of Highgate; a brother Leroy Wells and sister-in-law Beatrice Wells of Highgate; a brother Waldo Wells and a sister-in-law Emma Wells of St. Albans; and a brother Charles Wells and sister-in-law Elva Wells of St. Albans.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at 1 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Maurice J. Roy pastor of Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church in St. Albans City will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cusson family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Swanton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

DAVID NEVILLE

FRANKLIN -- David Neville of Franklin -- and the world -- died 12 September 2003. He was born in Toronto, 31 October 1916, the eldest son of James and Marjorie Law Eakins. He was educated at TCS (Trinity College School) and Appleby College in Ontario and was graduated from McGill University. He attended Harvard business school until the beginning of World War II when he volunteered for the Canadian Navy. Early in the war, he transferred to the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy where he served as a fighter pilot in the European theatre attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. He was discharged in 1946.

At the conclusion of the war, he continued to work for the Royal Navy as a test pilot in charge of aircraft testing at R.A.N.S. Worthy Down. Later, he moved to Kenya, where he was a director of coffee and sugar operations outside Nairobi. After several years in East Africa, he began his career as an overseas manager, working for international firms covering territories in the Middle East, Far East, Africa and India. In the following decades he developed markets and established operations while constantly traveling around the world. He spoke a number of languages including French and Kiswahili and had a working knowledge of several more, among them, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic and Japanese.

He retired to Franklin where he pursued his love of books and continued his study of 19th century photography. He was a recognized expert in the field and amassed one of the largest private collections of works on this subject. He was a self-taught naturalist with a particular interest in the unique ecosystem of the Franklin Bog, into which he led many groups for informative tours. Until the last years of his life he remained an astute observer of world affairs and an informed commentator.

David is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anna MacWilliams Neville; his daughter, Jennifer Neville Bright and his two beloved grandchildren, Caroline and William Bright. He also leaves several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada, especially Elizabeth K. Dorminey of Georgia and Kathy E. Edwards of New Brunswick.

Arrangements will be private and at the convenience of the family.

GERALD J. GAUTHIER

ENOSBURG FALLS -- Gerald J. Gauthier, age 85, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Haven Health Center Nursing Home in St. Albans. He was born March 28, 1918, in St. Albans, the son of the late Leo and Eugenie (St. Denis) Gauthier.

Gerald was born and raised on a dairy farm in Swanton. In 1950, he bought a farm on the Bogue Road in West Enosburg, and was a dairy farmer there until 1972. After his retirement from farming, he spent several winters in Florida. In 1995, he moved to Riverview Apartments, and thereafter to Brownway Residence, both in Enosburg Falls. For the past year he has resided at Haven Health Center.

He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Cabral and her husband, Joseph, of Indian Town, Fla., and Geraldine Gauthier of New York, N.Y.; a granddaughter and her husband, Angela, and Stephen Rawson; two great-grandchildren, Stephen and Sarah Rawson, all of Enosburg Falls; two brothers, Denis Gauthier of Bristol, Conn. and Conrad Gauthier of Swanton; one sister and her husband, Germaine and William Zweeres of Swanton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Cameron) Gauthier in 1974; three sisters, Odna Hemingway, Lucille Boivin, and Rachel Paquette; and three brothers, George, Henry and Jean Paul Gauthier.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

WENDELL V. MACHIA

BURLINGTON -- Wendell V. Machia, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a courageous battle with heart disease. Wendell was born in Charlestown, N.H., on June 30, 1927, the son of Clarence and Leona (LaMonda) Machia.

As a young child, his family moved to Vermont to farm in the Franklin County Area. Most of his adult life was spent in Burlington, where he earned the distinction of Master Plumber, owning his own business.

Wendell is survived by four daughters, Michelle Patno of Bristol, Debra White and her husband Doug of Waitsfield, Kelly Knudsen and her husband Albert of South Royalton, and Leslie Ashley of Fairfax; as well as their mother Emily Moon of Fairfax. He leaves seven grandchildren, Stephanie and Benjamin Patno, their father Michael Patno, Daniel and Olivia White, Olivia Knudsen, Alyssa and Kiley Ashley and their father Blaine Ashley. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Machia of New York and Conrad Machia of N.H.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Touchette of New York and Norma Jean Richer of Arizona. He leaves many nieces and nephews as well as many close friends in the Burlington area.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Meredith Machia and Garland Machia; and a sister Olita Jarrett.

The family would like to especially extend enormous gratitude to the staff on Unit 5 of the Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center for their tireless professional care, support and friendship to both Wendell and his family members during his residency.

A funeral service was held today, Sept. 15, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home located on Route 7 in Milton. Burial was to follow in the Franklin Village Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688.

Visiting hours were held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ROBERT J. LAMPHERE

SWANTON -- Robert J. Lamphere, 53, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003.

Bobby was born in Swanton, July 28, 1950, the son of the late Wesley C. "Joe" and Blanche (Tatro) Lamphere. He was a lifelong Swanton resident, graduated from Swanton High School and was employed by the former Union Carbide Corporation in St. Albans Town for more than 20 years.

An avid sportsman, Bobby was a life member of Ducks Unlimited. However, his true passion was for restoring old cars and in particular 1969 Mustangs for which he won numerous awards. He was a member of the Mustang Club of America, National Capital Region Mustang Club, New England Mustang Club, Champlain Valley Cruisers, Burlington Amputee Support Group and the Plattsburgh Amputee Support Group.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Honor Lamphere of Swanton and his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sara Lamphere of California; also two uncles and an aunt, Bernard Duprat of Swanton and Darrell and Lorraine Lamphere of Salem, N.H.; and many cousins. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Elaine Rosenberger; a brother-in-law, Paul Rosenberger; and two nephews, Andrew and Patrick Rosenberger all of Rouses Point, N.Y.

Bobby was a well-known and respected member of the Swanton Community and will be sadly missed by his many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Gifts in Bobby's memory may be made to the, American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, Vt. 05446.

ROLAND HAROLD ST. PIERRE

SWANTON -- Roland Harold St. Pierre, 76, a longtime resident of Lake Road in Swanton, died suddenly Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center.

Born in St. Albans, April 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Clarence and Anna (Lasnier) St. Pierre. He attended Holy Angels Roman Catholic School and on May 30, 1953, was married to the former Joan LaGoy who survives him.

Roland faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force, 96th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group and was honorably discharged, Nov. 1, 1948. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton.

In his earlier years Roland worked for the Brown's Foundry in Swanton, the Sheldon Pulp Mill, and was assistant manager of the former Hurlburt's Nursing Home in St. Albans City. He was a former Deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department but is best remembered for his association with Missisquoi Valley Rescue in Swanton Village.

In addition to his wife Joan of Swanton, he leaves his daughter, Doris Dumont and her companion Paul Rocheleau of Swanton; two brothers, David St. Pierre of Swanton and Norman St. Pierre and his wife Denise of Crown Point, N.Y.; one sister, Gloria Bourgeois and her husband Raymond of Swanton; three great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Shelby Dumont of Alburg and Rae Ann Mulheron of Swanton; and a great-grandson, Raymond Dumont III of Swanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Raymond Dumont Jr. on Sept. 18, 2002.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at 3 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. Pierre family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

Gifts in Roland's memory may be made to Missisquoi Valley Rescue, P.O. 22, Swanton, Vt. 05488.

GEORGE C. CUSHING

MILTON -- George C. Cushing, 82, died Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 2003 at his home surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Berlin, N.H. on Sept. 27, 1920, the son of William and Lillian (Phillips) Cushing.

The Cushing family moved to Vermont and farmed along the Connecticut River in the Town of Waterford. George entered the U.S. Army during World War II and was medically discharged in March of 1943.

On March 1, 1946, he married Marion E. Aldrich in St. Rosa Lima Catholic Church in Littleton, N.H. When he left the farm, he was employed as a DHIA herd tester. He was later employed by the State of Vermont as a State Police Dispatcher in St. Johnsbury and then at Red Stone in Montpelier. He later worked as a State Social Worker in the St. Albans area until he became permanently disabled.

George had three things that he enjoyed in life; first was his large family, which included his loving wife, his brothers and sisters, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. He loved to garden, raising and canning much of the food that the family ate. He enjoyed the woods and loved to hunt and fish.

George is survived by his loving wife Marion of over 56 years; and their 10 children: John and his wife Linda of Milton, Linda and her husband Bruce Barrows of Georgia, Paula and her husband Charles Racine of Cambridge, Allen and his wife Carol of Milton, Sandra and her husband Frank Read of Georgia, Carl and his wife Karen of Milton, Richard and his wife Nancy of Essex, Stephen and his wife Michelle of Colchester, Terrance and his wife Tanya of Milton, and Theresa and her husband Craig Savoy of Milton. He is survived by 50 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; by his brother James W. and his wife Dot of Bangor, Maine and his sister in law Nina Cushing, wife of Allen; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters Helen Ingraham and Mary Delaney and brothers Charles and Allen all of New Hampshire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery in Milton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA, Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Suite 1, Colchester, Vt. 05446.

Visiting hours will be held today, Sept. 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
