LEIGHA MARIE ROONEY
BAKERSFIELD -- Leigha Marie Rooney, of Lawyer Road in Bakersfield, infant daughter of James V. and Kristy M. (Lavery) Rooney, died Thursday, June 24, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.
She is survived by her paternal grandparents, John F. and Barbara F. Rooney of Worcester, her paternal great-grandmother, Margaret G. Harris of Worcester and her maternal grandmother, Debra Scherr and her husband William Scherr of Jericho Center.
Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
ALLEN F. BOWMAN
MONTGOMERY -- Allen F. Bowman, a.k.a. Dr. Electric, age 57, died suddenly while riding his bicycle Sunday, June 29, 2003. He was born May 19, 1946, in Detroit, Mich.
He graduated from Royal Oak Kimball High School in Warren, Mich. Al then entered the U.S. Army, proudly serving in Vietnam from April 4, 1968, to April 4, 1969. Following his honorable discharge with the rank of SP5, he attended Oakland University and received a B.A. in Philosophy.
Al moved to Vermont in 1977, a move he often spoke of as one of the best decisions of his life. He loved to hunt and fish, but later became a fisherman who loved to let fish go, and a hunter who loved to watch wildlife. He held a reverence for all living things. Because he had been to war, Al wanted all of us to work for peace.
Al became a master electrician in 1991, an occupation he loved deeply. He enjoyed the camaraderie of working with other contractors and getting to know homeowners, many of whom became good friends. When not working, you could find him bicycling, snowshoeing, working in his garden, and reading. He was an avid reader who devoured books and loved sharing thoughts and ideas with others. He was an electrician, adventurer, philosopher, and friend to all.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montgomery, a library trustee for the Montgomery Town Library, and a founding member of the Montgomery Cattlemen's Association.
Al was a wonderful husband to Sandy (Commons) Bowman, who was the love of his life, they were married Nov. 30, 1990. He was also a beloved stepfather to Jill Schoff and her husband, Eric, of Wallingford, Conn., and Joshua Potvin of Montgomery. He is also survived by his mother, Jane Bowman; a niece, Shannon Gruzwalski, both of Warren, Mich.; and many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Nelson Bowman, a sister, Renee; and a favorite uncle, Marvin Asher.
In keeping with his wishes, Al was cremated, and a memorial service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Pratt Hall in Montgomery with Pastor Kate Tobey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Veterans for Peace, Green Mountain Chapter 57, c/o Ed Everts, 385 Toad Rd., Charlotte, Vt. 05445, or to the Montgomery Town Library, 84 Mountain Road, Montgomery Center, Vt. 05471.
LIONEL X. "LEON" GODIN
ST. ALBANS - Lionel Xavier "Leon" Godin, 85, was granted his heavenly reward on August 28, 2003, surrounded by his loving family and caring staff at Redstone Villa. He was born Oct. 22, 1917, in Newport, son of the late Xavier and Mable (Cote) Godin.
On June 14, 1941, he married the former Anita Parent who resides at Redstone Villa. Leon first worked as a farmer, then many years at TJ McGovern in Cambridge, Sweet's Exxon, Hanley's Store, and as custodian for the Union Bank in Jeffersonville.
The family would like to thank the staff of Redstone Villa who provided much love and care for both Leon and Anita. Leon will be remembered for his loving, kind, and giving personality that touched many lives. He will be missed by everyone.
He is survived by, his wife, Anita Godin of St. Albans; his daughter, Susan Gagnon and special friend, Brad Gray, of Essex Jct.; his sons, John and special friend, Margo Kingsley of Colchester, Peter of Milton, Jim and JoAnne (Ovitt) Godin of Jeffersonville, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
He is also survived by, his brother and family, Reginald and Marge of Tempe, Ariz.; his sisters and their families, Lucille and Harold Duckless of Newport Center, and Victoria Chouinard of West Lebanon, N.H.
He was also predeceased by his brother Roland; his sisters, Lillian Jarvis, Yvonne Dailey, and Cecile Buteau; and son-in-law,
Steve Gagnon.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, from 2 to 5 pm at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated with the Reverends Francis Holland and John McDermott on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Cambridge. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the family lot in St. John The Baptist Cemtery, Enosburg.
Memorial contributions may be made in Leon's memory to the Alzheimer's Assoc., Vt & N.H. Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 427B, Concord, N.H. 03301-5004.

ELIZABETH WAY COBURN
FAIRFAX/ST. ALBANS -- Elizabeth Way Coburn, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, 2003, at her Fairfax residence. She was born in North Hero, Oct. 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Wyman and Cora (Martin) Way. For the past 11 years she has made her home with Ingrid Schautzer in Fairfax.
Elizabeth is the widow of Lawrence "Red" Coburn who died in 1985. She loved wild animals and her pet cat, "Baby, " who died a short while ago. She also enjoyed traveling, lively music and dancing.
She is survived by a sister, Julia Norris of Alburg; and two brothers, George Way of Milton and Wyman Way of Randolph. She was predeceased by two brothers, Benjamin Way and Kermit Way. She also leaves her extended family, Ingrid Schautzer, Lawrence Baillargeon, James Boucher, Kim Fortuna, and Michael Fortuna and his family. She will be missed by her special friends, Linda O'Brien, Linda Brunelle, Steven Bowlby, Sharon Patterson, and many others from Franklin County Home Health and Hospice.
A special thank you to her guardian, Diane Morris, and those at NCSS, Franklin County Home Health and Hospice Services for their care and support over the years.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at noon in the Heald Funeral Chapel. The Reverend Elizabeth Griffin will officiate. Interment will be in the family lot in North End Cemetery, North Hero, Vt. at 1:45 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice Program of Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.
Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
HOWARD ARTHUR PARIZO
GRAND ISLE -- Howard Arthur Parizo, 68, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his loving family. Howard was born in Grand Isle on Aug. 11, 1935, the son of Loris and Emma (Paradee) Parizo.
He attended Milton High School and graduated from Essex Junction High School in 1954. He also attended the University of Vermont.
Howard had many jobs through out his lifetime. From 1954 to 1959 he served in the Army and Army Reserves. He received training in gas refrigeration and boilers, he worked for many heavy equipment construction companies as well as owned and operated his own hotel and bar. He also served as a Vermont State Police Officer in the early 1960s.
Howard was proud to be a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8417, and of the DAV. He also enjoyed his memberships with the Isle of Patmos Lodge 17 F&AM, the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as treasurer with the Islands in the Sun Senior Citizen Center in Alburg.
Howard had many interests and hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, boating, flying, and most especially had a great love for music.
He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Hunter and her husband, Michael, of Grand Isle; his sons, Glenn Telford and his wife, Mary Alice, of Clarksville Tenn., and Jerry Telford of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Sara Hunter, Lisa Telford, Jason, Jared and Jordan Telford; his brother, Thomas Parizo and his wife, Shirley, of North Hero; and many nieces and nephews. Howard is also survived by his close friend, Evelyn Dubuque and her family of North Hero.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 1990.
A funeral service will be held Saturday Aug. 30, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
Memorials may be made to either the Grand Isle Rescue, P.O. Box 79, Grand Isle, Vt., or to the Islands in the Sun Senior Citizens, c/o Evelyn Dubuque, 226 Bridge Road, North Hero, Vt. 05474 . Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
LUCIUS "HUCKS" R. EDWARDS
SOUTH BURLINGTON -- On Aug. 26, 2003, the angels came for our brother "Hucks" after a two-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Prince George County, Va. on Sept. 1, 1955, and was raised there on his parents' farm.
He leaves a great many friends and his "adopted" family of the Reithoffer Shows, with whom he traveled for 25 years. Hucks then made Vermont his home with his loving companion of nine years, Lesley Alexander and their cat "Boxer."
He is survived by his loving companion, Lesley Alexander and her family; his brothers, Richard Cooper, James McKiever, and Jeffery Woods; his sisters, Latahni Cooper, Penny Baker, and DeAnn Wabuti; and their children, all of Vermont; special friends, Sherry and Wolf Dubuque, and Ivy Teator.
At Hucks' request there will be no funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Morrisville. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
FLOYD KEITH COREY
RICHFORD / SWANTON -- Floyd Keith Corey, age 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. He was born in Enosburg Falls, July 21, 1929, the son of the late Joseph and Beulah (Dashno) Corey.
Floyd worked as a farmer as a youngster, then was employed at Hoods Creamery in St. Albans. He then worked at Martians construction, he also worked at Imperial Nurseries in Connecticut for several years before moving back to Vermont in 1971 at which time he and his wife Arlene opened a small grocery store in Sheldon Creek.
In 1973 he moved to Swanton and began working for Pike Industries. Shortly thereafter Floyd worked many years at Anderson Concrete and retired in 1993. Floyd enjoyed fishing and his family. He was also an avid woodworker and reader.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Arlene (Hilliker) Corey, of Richford; five children and their spouses, Everett and Mary Corey of Windsor Locks, Conn; Nydia and Raymond Chapman of West Suffield, Conn; Sandra and Peter Nejako of East Granby, Conn.; Jeanine and George Rondeau of East Berkshire; Germaine and David Paradee of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Kimberly Cheney, Shannon Ransom, Kelly Marinone, Jeff and Wayne Messenger, Jean Evans, Richard Corey, Darcy Della Mattera, Heather and Patricia Chapman, Nichole and Ashley Nejako, Anthony and Keith Rondeau, Jamie and Danielle Cooper; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held this evening from 7 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

GLADYS A. POND
RICHFORD -- Gladys A. Pond, age 96, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at the Subacute Nursing Home in Bristol, Conn. She was born Jan. 2, 1907, in Stowe, the daughter of the late Frank A. and Phoebe (Lapelle) Allen.
She had been a resident of Bristol, Conn. since December of 1998, and was a former resident of Montpelier, Richford, and East Berkshire. She was a graduate of Johnson Normal School, and taught school in Wolcott. She was also a housekeeper in the area for several years. She was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Richford and a former member of the Tyler Branch Grange in Enosburg.
She is survived by two daughters and their husband, Alida C. and David Davis of Bristol, Conn., and Muriel A. and Gaylen Brown of Brookfield, Vt.; a step-son and his wife, Arthur and Gloria Pond of Richford; a step-daughter and her husband, Joan and Eugene Holzwarth of Windsor; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Willis Reed on Aug. 1, 1960, and by her second husband, Arthur Janes Pond on Feb. 10, 1991.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Richford with Father Reed Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Craftsbury Village Cemetery in Craftsbury, Vt.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
