MARJORIE J. DESTROMP

ST. ALBANS -- Marjorie J. Destromp, 81, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Destromp, where she lived for the past three years. Marjorie was born in Fairfax on May 22, 1922, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Gilbeau) Barkyoumb.

On June 16, 1939, she married Harry Destromp who predeceased her in 1991.

She is survived by her children and spouses, David Destromp Sr. and his wife Linda of Rio Rancho, N.M., Gary Destromp and his wife Barbara of St. Albans, and Penny Billups and fiance Randy Potvin of Westford; her grandchildren, David Destromp Jr., Audra-Dawn St. Amour and her husband John, Scott Destromp, Keith and Keitha Destromp, Janice, Derrick and Danielle Billups; also by her step-grandchildren, Joanne Morrison and Jamie Nez; by several great-grandchildren; her brother, Wilbur Barkyoumb of Southwick, Mass.; her sisters Marlene Carney of Vernon, Conn., Jo Anne Chmielecki of Rockville, Conn.; sister-in-law, Jeannette Derosier of Colchester, Conn., sister-in-law Rosemay Riley and her husband Harry of Colchester, Conn.; and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Harry, Marjorie was predeceased by her children, Ronald, Nancy, Janice, and Keith, and six brothers and five sisters.

Marjorie's family would like to express special thanks to Kim Charboneau of the Franklin County Home Health, Dr. John Fitzgerald, Dr. Don Majerick, Dr. Christopher Fukuda and Dr. Johannes Nunnink for the excellent care given to Marjorie during her illness.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. by the Reverend Father John Feltz, in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will follow in the New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington.

Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478, or to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 11 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602 - 3021.

Visiting hours were held today, July 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.

ALBERT J. LeBLANC

RUTLAND -- Albert J. LeBlanc, 85, died July 12, 2003, at Haven health Center. He was born in Rutland, Aug. 9, 1917, the son of Ernest L. and Alma B. (Leonard) LeBlanc.

He was a 1936 graduate of Rutland High School, and was a former Swanton resident.

He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. He married Shirley Cheever, Sept. 18, 1948, at Immaculate Heart of Mary. He was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department Bureau of Customs from 1948 to 1979.

Mr. LeBlanc was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Rutland American Legion Post 31, RSVP at Rutland Regional Medical Center, National Association for Retired Federal Employees, and the 49th Fighters Squadron Association.

Surviving are his wife of Rutland; a son, Peter G. LeBlanc and his wife Lisa of Rutland; and four children, Daniel and Page LeBlanc, and Peter and Joshua Reese; a daughter, Cynthia Gardner and her husband Bill, and daughter Sarah, of Tempe, Ariz.; two sisters, Theresa Senecal and Alma Hooker, both of Rutland; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Bernadette LeBlanc; and by a brother, Leon LeBlanc.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland today from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 787, Rutland, Vt. 05702, or Regional Ambulance Service, Stratton Road, Rutland, 05701, or Haven Health Center Activities Fund, 46 Nichols St., Rutland, Vt. 05701.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home.

JOHN TYSON GOSNELL

KEYSVILLE, Md. -- John Tyson Gosnell, 60, of Keysville, Md., died Friday, July 11, 2003, at his residence. Born on June 11, 1943, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Myretta Leister Gosnell. He was the husband of Valerie Barnett Gosnell.

He attended New Windsor High School and graduated from Francis Scott Key High School, class of 1961. Upon graduation, along with four classmates, he enlisted in the USMC. He completed basic training at Paris Island, S.C. Subsequent duty assignments included Camp LeJune, North Carolina, Quantico, Virginia, and Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan, plus Vietnam and other Far East locations. He served in the Corp for four years, earning the rank of Corporal. From 1966 to 1974 he worked for the Department of Defense, USAF Washing, D.C., with duty assignments primarily in the Far East. From 1974 until his retirement in 1995 he was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency, Langley, Va. During his career, he received numerous awards and recognition for service for his country.

He attended Northern Virginia Community College and also received 30 years of government education and training.

He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion Post 191 in Mount Airy. He was a former member and Adjutant at Post 150 in Sterling, Va. He was an active supporter and contributor of the DAV and other Veteran organizations. He was a member of Ascension Episcopal Church in Westminster.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Justin Winston Gosnell of Keysville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Donna Barnett of Uniontown, and Arnie and Judy Barnett of Westminster; one nieces and several nephews; and many cousins.

Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at the Ascension Episcopal Church, 23 North Court St., Westminster, with his pastor, Father Sam Edleman officiating. The family received friends at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

JOSEPH RAYMOND "INDIAN JO" LAMPMAN

SWANTON -- Joseph Raymond "Indian Jo" Lampman, 77, a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2003, in his Grand Avenue apartment.

He was born in St. Albans, April 11, 1926, the son of the late Herman Dewey and Josephine May (Gardner) Lampman. He attended Swanton schools.

Joe spent much of his working life associated with the Central Vermont Railroad, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of faithful service. He worked very hard all of his life and in earlier years had been associated with Hoods Creamery and Wirthmore Feeds in St. Albans and assisted in the construction of the Union Carbide Corporation and the Franklin County Airport. He also worked in maintenance at the former Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester as well as on several area farms. He was a longtime member of the Abenaki Nation of Vermont.

Joe faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1944.

He leaves his devoted companion and caregiver, Nancy Burns of Swanton; a daughter, Sheila Lampman Gray and her children, Karen and Janet Gray of Montpelier; a son, Joseph Raymond Lampman Jr. and his son, Joseph Raymond Lampman III of White River Junction; four step-sons, Guy Darby of St. Albans, Matt Nevell of St. Albans, Paul Darby of Boston and Herman Gardner Brow of Morrisville; three sisters, Elizabeth Lapan of Swanton, Virginia Lampman of Swanton, and Roberta West of Morrisville; two brothers, Francis Lampman Sr. of St. Albans and Herbie Lampman of Highgate. He also leaves several very special people that touched his life including, Junior Gardner, Tom and Shirley Philips, Brent Reader, Louise Larivee, Jean Osgood, Ellie Martell and Lisa Lampman; as well as many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.

Several brothers and sisters predeceased him.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, at 12 noon from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Peter Fiske pastor of The Church at Northwest in St. Albans will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Lampman family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

SISTER AGNES HASKINS, RSM
(Sister Mary Stanislaus)

BURLINGTON - Sister Agnes J. Haskins, formerly Sister Mary Stanislaus, 103, of the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont, died at Mount Saint Mary Convent in Burlington, Vermont on Tuesday, July 8, 2003.

She was born in Gloucester, Mass. on Sept. 17, 1899, the daughter and second oldest of 11 children of William J, and Elizabeth Deveau Haskins.

She received her early education at Gloucester High School and Salem Business and Teacher Training College in Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Trinity College in Burlington. She also did graduate study in Library Science in summer programs at the University of Vermont. At the time she entered the Sisters of Mercy in Burlington in 1925, she was employed in the finance office at the Jacob Dreyfus Wholesale Co, in Boston.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont on Sept. 8, 1925, and made her profession of vows on March 24, 1928.

Sister Agnes taught business courses and physical education at Cathedral High School and Mt. St. Mary Academy in Burlington, St. Michael's High School in Montpelier, and Marian High School in Barre. She also did secretarial work at St. Anthony's Parish in Burlington for several summers. At the time other retirement in 1972, she was full time librarian at Marian High in Barre. In retirement years. Sister did volunteer typing and mailings for various organizations and the Sisters of Mercy. In September 1999, family, friends and members other religious community joined her in a joyful celebration of her 100th birthday.

Sister Agnes is survived by her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Mercy of Vermont; several nieces and nephews, including Marie Flanagan of Essex Junction and Ann Willett, formerly of Winooski, who have been very attentive to her; and her longtime caregivers at St. Mary's. She was predeceased by her parents, and by her sisters and brothers: Alice, Katherine, Martha, William and Philip.

The wake will be held at Mt. St. Mary's, this evening, Thursday, July 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 11, at 4 p.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel at Mount St. Mary, 100 Mansfield Ave. in Burlington, with visiting time prior to the funeral. Internment will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy Ministry Fund.

Arrangements are made by Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.

ERIC F. ANDRESS

MONTPELIER/ST. ALBANS -- Eric F. Andress passed away peacefully Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with his family at his side. He was born June 17, 1949, in St. Albans the son of Francis and Ruth (Nagle) Andress.

Eric graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1967. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. Eric was affiliated with Sears during his high school years and later became manager of the catalog department in the Sears store in Burlington.

After leaving that position, he went on to complete a course in computer science in Massachusetts. Upon returning to Vermont, he accepted a position at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin as a system analyst. At the age of 13 he was baptized in the Georgia Plain Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Andress; four sisters and their husbands, Bonita and William Fish, Eloise and Joaquin Camara, Gail and Ned Casey and Lynn Andress; one brother, Kurt Andress; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Francis.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main St., St. Albans with the Reverend William Simmons of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate Processing Center, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688, or the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell Street, South Burlington, Vt. 05403-9987.

JEAN WILMA (LEAVITT) MARQUETTE

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Jean Wilma (Leavitt) Marquette, 77, of Los Angeles, died June 18, 2003, following a short illness. Her two sons and their wives were near her. She was predeceased by Roland, her husband of 36 years, in 1991.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Brian and his wife, Cecile, of Duarte, Calif., and David Roland and his wife, Madelyn, and their two children, Tyler and Vanessa, all of La Crescenta, Calif.; and a brother, Robert Harris Leavitt, of Charlotte, Vt.

Jean was born to F. Harris Leavitt and Dorothy Horton White Leavitt in Eliot, Maine, Oct. 6, 1925. She graduated from Rutland High School in Rutland in 1943, and from Castleton State College in 1945. She taught grades one through eight in a one-room school house in Bridport, Vt., and married George Shaw of Bridport. Later she divorced Mr. Shaw and moved to St. Albans, where she worked at Webster and Earl's Body Shop for several years. In 1955, Jean married Roland ("Ron") Marquette of St. Albans, and they moved to Los Angeles, where she resided until her death.

In 1971, after organizing the Neighborhood Watch program on her street, Jean became one of the first citizen volunteers to work for the LAPD. She was one of the founding members of LACE (Ladies Assisting Cops Enthusiastically), a group of women whose mission was to assist in LAPD's public relations events and to offer support to the officers. She became a Senior Deputy Auxiliary Police Volunteer assigned to Records and Identification in 1979. She retired from her volunteer activities with LAPD in 1997, after 26 years of dedicated service.

Jean's body was cremated and on June 26, her ashes were placed near those of her late husband in Forest Lawn Memorial in Glendale, Calif. Following that, a Memorial Service was held at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, with the Reverend James E. Stochl, Jr. officiating.

Throughout her life, wherever Jean was, she was an active leader and participant in area affairs -- in public schools and in college, in the communities where she lived, and in her church.

Her family and friends will greatly miss her, but they rejoice that they were able to enjoy her presence for the all-too-short duration of her life.
