MICHAEL J. MURPHY
FAIRFAX - Michael James Murphy, 47, died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack Friday May 2, 2003, at Olin College in Needham, Mass.
Michael was born in St. Albans on April 20t 1956, the son of Ronald and Janice (Church ) Murphy. He was a graduate of the Class of 1974 at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and attended the University of Vermont.
Michael married the love of his life, Barbara Smith, in St. Paul's Cathedral in Burlington on June 21, 1980. They had resided in Fairfax for over 20 years. Together they raised two precious children, Christopher and Kathryn, in whom he took great pride and joy.
Michael worked at IBM for over 25 years, most recently as a Systems Analyst. Michael had many passions, varying from watching Formula 1 auto races, his great interest in Egyptology and dinosaurs and hybridizing Day Lilies.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, of Fairfax, Mike is survived by his son, Christopher A. Murphy, presently attending Olin College and his daughter, Kathryn E. Murphy, presently a senior at BFA in Fairfax. He is also survived by his parents, Ronald and Janice Murphy of St. Albans; his sisters Karyn Murphy-Saunders and her husband, Frank, of Connecticut, Meegan Delphia and her husband, Michael, of Williston; his brother, Sean Murphy and fiancée, Deb Coulam, of South Burlington; his father- and mother-in-law Levi P. Smith Jr. and Sybil Watts Smith of Burlington; his brothers-in-law, Levi Smith III and his wife, Paola, of Chicago, Ill., and John Smith of Shelburne; by his sister-in-law, Victoria Powers and her husband, Mark, of Charlotte; and by a niece and nine nephews.
He is also survived by many dear friends, especially Gary Allen and Kim Phelps of Burlington.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Fairfax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.
Contributions may be made in Michael's memory to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont-Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn., 06150-1160.
Visiting hours will be held at Michael and Barbara's home in Fairfax on Monday May 5t from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home of Milton.
MARSHALL C. 'BUDDY' CHAFFEE
HIGHGATE SPRINGS - Marshall C. "Buddy" Chaffee, 64, a lifelong Carter Hill Resident in Highgate Springs died early Saturday evening May 3, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
Buddy was born in Highgate Springs, Sept. 17, 1938, the son of the late Olin Sherburne and Eva (Gross) Chaffee. He attended schools in Highgate Springs and on June 11, 1960, married the former Doreen Loyer who survives him.
Buddy was a very hardworking, generous and kind man who was known to help anyone who was in need. He had a great and genuine love for his family and was very much in to research and taking pictures so that the family history would never be lost.
He worked construction most of his life and was a member of both the Electrical Linesman and Brotherhood of Carpenters Unions. He had many many friends and always enjoyed sitting down to a cup of coffee with anyone who was willing. He will be greatly missed by all who were associated with him.
In addition to his wife, Doreen, of nearly 43 years Buddy leaves two sons and their wives, Jody and Evelyn Chaffee of Alburg and Justin and Parm Chaffee of Highgate Springs; three daughters, Joy Chaffee-Spears of Highgate Springs, Jill Rainville and her husband, Rolland, of Franklin, and Joan Chaffee of Grand Canyon, Ariz.; a sister, Freya Chaffee, of Waterbury; and a brother, Mervin Chaffee, of Washington, Va; eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Buddy was predeceased by his twin sister, Marcia Chaffee as well as his sister Alicia Maskell and a brother Jeff Chaffee.
Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Wednesday, May 7, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will take place Wednesday evening at 8. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate.

ELMA M. BENOIT
ENOSBURG FALLS- Elma M. Benoit, age 94, died peacefully Friday, April 25, 2003, at the home she had loved for 30 years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

WAYNE J. "BUBBY" LUMBRA
BERKSHIRE - Wayne J. "Bubby" Lumbra, age 66, died peacefully, Friday morning, May 2, 2003, at the Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans.
He was born June 2, 1936, in Montgomery, the son of the late Joseph "Cat" and Marion (Gosslin) Lumbra.
Bubby was employed at Worthmore's Grain Coan and McDermott's Trucking, and then owned and operated the family farm from 1971 to 1983. After farming he drove a truck for Hodgdon Bros. and Richard Green Trucking. He was a former member of the Vermont National Guard in Enosburg Falls, and was a member of the American Legion Post #12 of Richford.
He is survived by his five daughters and their husbands, Linda and Arnold Mercy of Montgomery Center, Cindy and Donald Lowell of Wolcott, Tammy and Maxwell Reinholdt of Enosburg Falls, Dianna and Kevin Sylvester of Wolcott, and Susan and Gabriel Paquette of Enosburg Falls; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends and relatives may call on the family Sunday from 5-6 p.m. at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

DAVID A. O'ROURKE
SUNRISE, Fla. -- David A. O'Rourke, 60, of Sunrise, Fla., died Thursday morning May 1, 2003, at the Hospice Unit of the Pembroke Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla. He was born Dec. 3, 1942, in Rutland the son of William and Rita (Lyman) O'Rourke.
Mr. O'Rourke graduated from the Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Mr. O'Rourke was a current member of the Association of Realtors, American Legion, and Moose Club. He had been a resident of St. Albans prior to relocating to Florida in 1995.
Mr. O'Rourke was the owner of O'Rourke's Lake Street Market in St. Albans. In 1988 he established Maple Valley Real Estate in St. Albans. He was a past member of the St. Albans City Council.
While in Florida he worked for Broward County Fire Rescue as a communications operator and sold real estate.
He was a former member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and an active participant of Calvary Chapel of Ft. Lauderdale while in Florida.
Survivors include a son, Michael O'Rourke of Burlington; a daughter, Shannon Gauvin and her husband, David, of Derby Line, and their four children, Joshua, Michelle, Kristina, and Eric; another daughter, Jennifer Naylor and her husband, James, of Albany, Ga., and their son Kevin; as well as his former wife, Diane O'Rourke, of Davie, Fla, who was by his side to the end.
He was predeceased by his father William, mother Rita O'Rourke Buffum, wife Pamela (Porter) O'Rourke and a son, David A. O'Rourke Jr.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later time at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

PERCY A. DENSMORE
ST. ALBANS -- Percy A. Densmore, 79, a lifelong Vermont resident, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Northwestern Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Winooski on July 5, 1923, the son of the late Albert and Emma (Cook) Densmore. On April 20, 1948, he married Shirley Devino, who survives him.
Percy has lived in St. Albans since 1986, moving here from Colchester. He was a truck driver for Holmes Transportation for 23 years, retiring in 1985. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran serving from 1941 to 1943.
Besides his wife, Shirley, of St. Albans, he is survived by three daughters, Lynn Densmore and her companion, Philip Marshia of Bakersfield, Marie Limmer and her husband, Karl, of Chatham, N.H., and Susan Allen and her husband, Lyle, of Fairfield; two sons, Allyn Densmore of Palm Springs, Calif. and Pat Densmore of Florida; a sister, Ruth Malone of Colchester; seven grandchildren, Kelly St. Pierre, Todd St. Pierre, Trish Allen, Trina Allen, Ty Little, Laura Frye, and Holly Rodd; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Tyler Brooks, Mara Little, and Adriann Rodd. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilfred Densmore.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be in the family lot at St. Ann's Cemetery in Milton.

LEON STANLEY PRAIRIE
SWANTON -- Leon Stanley Prairie, 81, a resident of 22 Lake St. in Swanton Village since 1957, died early Wednesday evening, April 30, 2003, in the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans Town.
He was born in Pawtucket, R.I., Aug. 15, 1921, the son of the late Florimond and Jeanette (Gladue) Prairie. He was later raised and educated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and on Sept. 29, 1945, married the former Ghislaine Peloquin who survives him.
For 36 years Leon had been associated with the Central Vermont Railroad serving in several different capacities. He was an active and devoted member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and also served the Town of Swanton as Auditor for many years. He will always be remembered for the many hours that he spent in his wood working shop.
In addition to his wife, Ghislaine, of nearly 58 years, Leon leaves three sons and their wives, Claude and Janet Prairie of Ste. Hubert, Quebec Canada, Roland and Mary Ellen Prairie of Newport and Mark and Dale Prairie of Westford; three daughters, Linda Manter and her husband, Frank, of Acton, Mass., Dianne Prairie of Copperas Cove, Texas and Renee Brown and her husband, Dale, of Milton; one sister, Pauline Forgue of Montreal, Quebec Canada; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Roland Prairie in 1946.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist.
