STUART "BUGGY" REED
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Stuart "Buggy" Reed, 74, a well known retired Vermont State Police Trooper, passed away Tuesday evening, May 6, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Dummerston on Feb. 25, 1929, the son of the late Harold A. and Rena (Smith) Reed. On July 2, 1963, he married Ramona Hamblin who survives him.
"Buggy" was a Vermont State Trooper for 25 years, retiring in December of 1983. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II (1946-1949) and the Korean Conflict (1950-1953). A member of the Vermont Retired State Employees Association, he also belonged to the Alburg Knights of Columbus and Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion in St. Albans. His greatest joy was his family, hunting and riding his "four wheeler."
Besides his wife, Ramona, of Enosburg, he is survived by three sons, Shaun Reed and his wife, Mary, of Highgate, Gary Davis and his companion, Marylou Charland, of Kent, Wash., and Greg Davis and his wife, Laura, of Holland, Vt.; a brother and his wife, Spencer and Marjorie Reed of Tilton, N.H.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Clyde and Marsella Hamblin of Middlebury; six grandchildren, Alexis and Kaitlin Reed of Highgate, Heather Davis of Kent, Wash., and Jacob, Elisa and Genevieve Davis of Holland, Vt.; his special friends, Nan Guilmette of Enosburg and Carol, Mark and Jesse Guilmette of Enosburg, Dean, Michelle, Nicholas, and Brianna Guilmette of Franklin, Roger, Sue, Krissy and Shawn Morris of Fairfield. Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary, in 1964.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Reed family lot at St. Albans Bay Cemetery.

ALFRED E. HOULE
MILTON -- Alfred E. Houle, 58, of Forbes Road, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington. Alfred was born Aug. 10, 1944, in Burlington, the son of Eugene and Harriet Duval Houle. He attended Winooski High School and later Burlington High School where he learned the art of Culinary cooking.
He worked for a while with Pizzagalli and later IBM, however, his love for cooking remained and most recently he ran AJ's Restaurant in Essex Junction for the last four years. A diehard Redsox Fan who was a sports fanatic who enjoyed watching Bill Elliot, Al was also an avid bowler both in Vermont and New York. He loved to fish and play cards but his favorite times were the times spent with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Al is survived by his companion, Doris Payea of Milton and his children, Stephen Houle and his wife Nancy and Shane Houle and his partner, Roxanne Robinson all of Swanton; by the mother of his children, Susan Houle of Westford; his grandchildren, Spencer, Bryan, Kyle and Kelsi. He leaves his mother, Harriet Houle of Burlington and his mother-in-law, Nelda Miller of Winooski; his brother, Allan Houle of Florida; and his two sisters, Susan Devino of Winooski and Stephanie Guilmette of St. Albans; his special Godchild, Denise Bell; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and the entire Miller family all of whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his father, Eugene Houle and his sister, Sandra Ladd.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 4 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home with Father John Feltz officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Scleraderma Foundation, 1725 York Avenue, New York, N.Y. 10128.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home, Rt. 7, Milton.
DENNIS P. PALMER
FAIRFAX -- Dennis P. Palmer, 50, of Cherrierville Road, died unexpectedly Sunday May 4, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington. Dennis was born on May 27, 1952, in St. Albans, the son of Leslie and Wanda Chappel Palmer.
A lifelong resident of Fairfax, Dennis graduated from Bellow Free Academy with the Class of 1971. On Oct. 6, 1973, he married Denise Lavallee in St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Dennis loved his family and he loved his farm. He enjoyed being in the woods whether it be logging in the forest or hunting, he felt at home doing what he loved. He will be greatly missed.
Dennis leaves his wife Denise of Fairfax; and his three children, Dylan and Benjamin Palmer of Fairfax and Crystal Rozwood and her husband Ronald of Eglin AFB in Florida; his parents, Leslie and Wanda Palmer of Fairfax; his brothers and sisters, Sandra Lucia and friend, Dwight Dimond of Bristol, Mike and Kathy Palmer of Georgia, Nancy and Gary Coon of Williston, Elijah Palmer of Fairfax and Mary and Bill Meigs of St. Albans; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Laurent and Doris Lavallee of Westford; his sisters-in-law and brothers in law, Diane Wieneke of Mankato, MN, Ann and Junior Drinkwine of Westford, Janet and Mike Lavery of Grand Isle and Lucy and Jim Page of Westford; many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his pets, Bubbs, Ginger and Lily. He was predeceased by a brother in law, Daryl Wieneke.
Visiting hours and funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

MARGERY M. LAWYER
BAKERSFIELD -- Margery M. Lawyer, age 86, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Haven Health Center in St. Albans. She was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Fairfax, the daughter of the late Elmer and Gertrude (Putnam) Hulbert.
Margery was a resident of Bakersfield most of her life and for the past four years had resided at Haven Health Center. She was a member of the Bakersfield Methodist Church, Order of the Easter Star Harmony Chapter and Martha Washington Chapter. She was employed at Locke Haven Nursing Home in Jeffersonville then at Kerbs Memorial Hospital in St. Albans for 15 years, retiring in 1981. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Franklin County Home Health Agency.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Thomas "Teed" and Peg Lawyer of Bakersfield; a sister and her husband, Thelma and George Stebbins of Sheldon; a brother and his wife, Carl and Laura Hulbert of Salt Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Lance and Sharon Lawyer of Bakersfield, and April and Tim Geddes of East Fairfield; six great-grandchildren, Tara, Ryan, Kate, Tyler, Emily and Colby; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Darius W. "Red" Lawyer, Aug. 14, 1991; two brothers, Samuel and Elmer Hulbert; and two sisters, Inez Cota and Evelyn Facto.
In keeping with Margery's wishes she will be cremated. Memorial Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bakersfield Methodist Church with Pastor Marshall True officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

BETTY MAE CUTTING
EAST BAKERSFIELD - Betty Mae Cutting, age 64, died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born in East Bakersfield, May 19, 1938, the daughter of the late Carmine and Mabel (Malone) Cutting.
Bet was a life long resident of East Berkshire where she always appreciated and loved the view of the Cold Hollow Mountains and also being able to see the wildlife from her home. She graduated from a one room school house in East Bakersfield where she was taught by Mrs. Montague from first grade through eighth grade. She was a 1956 graduate of Brigham Academy in Bakersfield.
Bet owned and operated Betty's Knit Shop in her home for 29 years. She attended craft sales around the state selling sweaters with knit animals on them. She was a member of the Missisquoi Valley Arts & Crafts Association and the Vermont Handcrafters.
Bet is remembered for her love and caring of many elderly people in the area, working as a home care provider.
She is survived by her brother and his wife, Merrill and Phyllis Cutting of Enosburg Falls; a brother-in-law, Wendell "Bing" Gilbert of East Bakersfield; a sister-in-law, Barbara Cutting of Franklin; nine nieces and nephews and their families; many special cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Gilbert and a brother, Harold Cutting.
In keeping with Bet's wishes, she will be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, May 12, 2003, at noon at the Sheldon Village Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

EARL C. OVITT
WEST ENOSBURGH - Earl C. Ovitt, age 79, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his home in West Enosburgh.
Earl was born July 2, 1924 in West Enosburgh, the son of the late, Craig and Marion (Hoben) Ovitt.
Earl was a life long resident of West Enosburgh. He was employed in his earlier years at the grocery store in Enosburg Falls and then at Worthmore Grain, retiring in 1985. While farming he trucked hay and was a cattle and horse dealer. Earl loved to work in his gardens and peddled his produce at the farmers market in St. Albans for the last 13 years. He also operated an egg route in Franklin County for 15 years.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Larry and Joanne Ovitt; two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Mel Peck, and Earleen and Peter Bosley, all of West Enosburgh; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchilden; a brother and his wife, Arthur and Mary Lou Ovitt of West Enosburgh; a sister, Kathryn Combs of Enosburg Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Imelda (Metayer) Ovitt on Nov. 12, 2001.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Benedict Kiely celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. George's Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

CHARLOTTE H. KEEFE
WATERBURY ญญ Charlotte H. Keefe, 98, a longtime resident of Perry Hill, died in the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she spent the past nine years, on Friday, May 2, 2003.
Born in Westford on Jan. 4, 1905, she was a daughter of the late William O. and Maude (Laughlin) King. On Oct. 3, 1927, she married Bernard J. Keefe in Waterbury. Mr. Keefe died on May 15, 1961.
Charlotte was the oldest surviving graduate of Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax's class of 1923. Moving to Waterbury as a young woman, she worked at the Vermont State Hospital as an occupational therapist for several years. Following her marriage, she was busy as a mother, homemaker and helping her husband on the family farm. She later worked at the former Bailey's Department Store and the F.C. Luce Co., both of Waterbury.
Her memberships included St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Court St. Theresa and the Altar Society, all of Waterbury. She particularly enjoyed her large family and playing a competitive game of Bridge.
She is survived by: three daughters, Mary Sutherland and her husband, Stuart, of North Adams, Mass., Judy Woodruff and her husband, John "Skip, " of Waterbury, Susan Keefe and her husband, Richard Gaull of Woodstock; two sons, Bernard Keefe and his wife, Dorothy, of Fairfax, and David Keefe and his wife, Pauline, of Waterbury; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Denise Keefe of Williston; three sisters, Bernice Gallagher, of St. Albans, Margarete Raleigh, of Swanton, and Patricia Hardy of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a brother, Armand Martin, of Schenectady, N.Y., as well as many nieces and nephews. Two sons, William Keefe and John "Jack" Keefe, and a daughter-in-law, Sally Spence Keefe, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Duxbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Rd., Barre, Vt. 05641, or to the Waterbury Food Shelf, 57 South Main St., Waterbury, Vt. 05676. Arrangements are in the care of Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury.
ALEXANDER JOHN WATSON
GEORGIA - Alexander John Watson, newborn son of Gordon III and Sherry ( Branch ) Watson, died Friday May 2, 2003 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Alexander was born on Tuesday April 29, 2003 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
He is survived by his parents, Gordon and Sherry Watson and his sister, Lauren Watson, all of Georgia; by his maternal grandparents John and Barbara Branch; and his maternal great-grandfather Virgil Tourville, all of South Hero; by his paternal grandparents Linda Coffin and her husband, Jon, of Grand Isle, and Gordon A. Watson Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Burlington; and his paternal great-grandmothers Josephine Forrer of Shelburne, and Mrs. Gordon A. Watson Sr. of Florida; and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday May 7, 2003 at 10 am in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero.
Burial will follow in the Grand Isle Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, May 6, from 6-8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
