RUTH M. NICKERSON
MILTON / MANCHESTER, VT / EVERETT, Mass. -- Ruth M. Nickerson, 91, died Friday morning, May 16, 2003, at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Mass. Ruth was born in Lowell, Mass. on June 11, 1911, the daughter of Alexander and Alice (Hutchinson) Campbell.
Mrs. Nickerson was a graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington, Mass., and of Gordon College, in Boston, Mass. She was married to the Reverend Emery H. Nickerson on June 10, 1933. Emery passed away on March 2, 1973.
Ruth had worked for several years as a public school teacher in Milton, Vt. She was a former member of the Monday Club and was a volunteer at Hildene in Manchester. She was a member of the United Church of Milton while her husband Emery served as Pastor.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Lori Miller and her husband Joseph of Billerica, Mass., Scott Dalrymple and his wife Brenda of Everett, Mass., Paul E. Dalrymple of Everett, Mass., Kevin Dalrymple and Susan Dalrymple of Billerica and Joya Davis and her husband Mark of Calif.; cherished by 13 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Emery, Ruth was predeceased by her daughter Jacqueline Dalrymple and her husband Paul.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with the Reverend Jeffrey Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Milton Village Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held today, May 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
VIVIAN ISABELLE (WILLARD) STINEHOUR
SOUTH BURLINGTON -- Vivian Isabelle (Willard) Stinehour, 82, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Vivian was born in Clinton, Conn., the daughter of Merle and Minnie (Wall) Willard on May 28, 1921. On Feb. 17, 1940, Vivian married Norman P. Stinehour in Middletown, Conn. They were happily married for over 63 years. She and her husband Norman moved to Pillsbury Manor in South Burlington from Kissimmee, Fla. in 1997.
Vivian was an active member in both chapter and state offices of the AARP, Senior Friends, Mall Walkers, and Grandmothers' Club in Florida. She was a member of the Women's Guild of the First Congregational Church in Madison, Conn.
Mrs. Stinehour is survived by her loving husband Norman.
She is also survived by their son Norman W. Stinehour and his wife Joyce Hakey of Fairfax; by her grandchildren Mark Stinehour and his wife Amy of Franklin, Mass., Karen Seaman and her husband John of Fairfax, Craig Stinehour and his wife Megale of Milliken, Colo., Bryan Stinehour and his wife Melanie of Waterboro, Maine, and by their mother, Patricia Stinehour, of Essex. Vivian was also the proud great-grandmother of Nicholas and Benjamin Stinehour and Jaylin Seaman. She is also survived by her sister Marian Peterson of St. Cloud, Fla.; and her sister-in-law Rita Willard of Shipbottom, N.J. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Willard.
A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated Saturday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m. at Pillsbury Manor, located at 90 Allen Road in South Burlington. Burial will be in the family lot in Madison, Conn. at the convenience of the family.

ELWIN ALLAN SWEENEY
MILTON -- Elwin Allan Sweeney, 80, died Sunday morning, May 18, 2003 at his home in Milton following a long illness. Elwin was born in Colchester on March 31, 1923, the son of Emery and Lena (Caderact) Sweeney. On Nov. 17, 1956, Elwin married Maxine Trayah in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton.
Elwin recently graduated from Milton High School, receiving his diploma on May 14 of this year. Mr. Sweeney served his country proudly for over 40 years. Beginning in the U.S. Army and continuing with the Army reserves, spanning World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1984.
Elwin was member and Communicant of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. He was a life member of the John Ryan VFW Post 1767 in Winooski, of the American Legion Post 57 in Milton, of the NRA and was a member of the North East Fiddlers Assoc., the Champlain Valley Fiddlers Assoc., the 8th Division 28th Infantry Assoc., the Retired Enlisted Assoc., and of AARP. Elwin also worked for the S.D. Ireland Construction Co., retiring in 1985.
In addition to his loving wife Maxine of Milton, Elwin is survived by their children, Linda Kirkpatrick of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cheyanne Miller and her husband Gene of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Elwin Sweeney II and his wife Sally of Georgia, Joan Murray and her husband Rene of Enosburg Falls; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kristopher, Tammy Lynn, Joshua, Treavor, Kaitlyn and Logan. He is also survived by his brothers, Wesley Sweeney of Minnosota, and G. David Sweeney of Colchester; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church in Milton. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
Contributions may be made in the form of Masses in Elwin's memory.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, located 237 Rt. 7 South in Milton.
Prayers will be offered Wednesday afternoon by Reverend Father John Feltz at 3:45 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home.
MYRA IRENE TAYLOR HUTCHINS
ALBURG / NORTH FERRISBURG -- Mrs. Myra Irene Taylor Hutchins, 79, a longtime resident of Alburg and more recently of North Ferrisburg, died unexpectedly Saturday evening, May 17, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington. She was born in Noyan, Quebec Canada the daughter of the late James and Lettie (Westover) Taylor. On March 27, 1943, she was married to Harley Hutchins who predeceased her in December of 1981.
Myra was a longtime member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post 60 in Alburg.
She leaves a son, Jerald Hutchins and his wife Sylvia of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters, Pauline Dubuque and her husband Donald of North Hero, Linda Naylor of Alburg, and Jacqueline Degree and her husband Bernard of North Ferrisburg; one sister, Mrs. Eleanor Hanna of Attleboro, Mass.; one brother, Earl Taylor of St. Albans; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Harley, Myra was predeceased by two daughters, Verna Hutchins in 1949, Sally Chapin, son-in-law, Murhl and grandson, Blaine all in January of 1979, a son-in-law, Brent "Bud" Naylor in August of 1988 as well as three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at later date in the Hutchins family lot in Riverside Cemetery.

GERARD L. DANIEL, M.D.
SWANTON, VT / FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Dr. Gerard L. Daniel (Jerry), 76, died late Friday evening, May 16, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington after a long illness and surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Daniel is the retired chairman, president and chief executive officer of Lipha Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He joined Lipha in 1975.
Dr. Daniel was a science-administrator who spent a decade as senior executive in the United States Government. A native of Vermont he received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from St. Michael's College and was a 1954 graduate of the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Following postgraduate work, he practiced medicine in Brattleboro, Vt. In 1951 he entered government service for the second time (previous military service in World War II) and was appointed director of Clinical Medicine for the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C. In 1963 he assumed the position as chief of the Life Sciences Division for the office of Scientific Intelligence for the C.I.A.
In 1970 Dr. Daniel joined Sterling International and was assigned to Japan as regional medical director for Asia based in Tokyo. In 1973 he was reassigned to the New York headquarters responsible for international clinical research in all foreign countries.
In 1975 he joined Rhone-Poulenc, Inc. as corporate medical director and founded Lipha Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as a fully owned subsidiary of Lipha S.A. based in Lyon, France. In 1995 he obtained the National Drug Administration approval for the anti-diabetes drug Glucophage. In 1995 he retired from Lipha Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Daniel was an accredited member in a number of professional and related societies. He was married to the former Renee Messier of Swanton and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the father of Suzanne Foley and her husband Stephen of South Burlington and the grandfather of Nicole Foley of South Burlington and attending the University of Washington, D.C. and Cullen Foley also of South Burlington.
He was predeceased by his brother Mike Daniel and his wife Mary (Pennell) and his sisters, Beatrice Deal and her husband Francis and Adrienne Rheaume and her husband Henry and their son John.
Dr. Daniel was also a lifetime parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and a life member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus entering in Arlington, Virginia and later transferring to Assembly 2473 in St. Albans.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Friday, May 23, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m.

ROBERT R. BUSHEY
SWANTON -- Robert R. Bushey, 87, a resident of Swanton for most of his lifetime and most recently a resident of Brownway in Enosburg Falls, died late Friday evening, May 16, 2003, at Haven Health Care in St. Albans.
Prior to his retirement, Bob had worked in the construction business in association with the S.D. Ireland Co. in Burlington. He also owned and operated the Bushey Turkey Farm in Swanton for many years.
He was born in Swanton, Dec. 24, 1915, the son of the late Royal and Cora (Raymo) Bushey. He attended Swanton schools and was married for 51 years to Geraldine Bushey who survives him.
In addition to his former wife of St. Albans, Bob is survived by three sons, Roger L. of Swanton, Brent L. and his wife Connie of Huntington and Scott L. and his wife Lisa of Highgate; four brothers, Clifton of Swanton, Ralph and his wife Doris of Swanton, Jerome and His wife Catherine of Connecticut and Donald and his wife Helen of Bakersfield; three sisters, Evelyn and her husband Charles Thibault of Swanton, Dorothy Lebeau of Highgate and Hazel and her husband Napoleon Trahan of Connecticut; three grandchildren, Eric, Cara and Lindsey Bushey; one great-granddaughter, Evoney Bushey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was predeceased by his oldest son, Wayne L. Bushey; a sister, Delia Brouilette; a brother-in-law, Alvin Lebeau; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Bushey.
Funeral services will be held from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at 2 p.m. Father John J. Meagher, SSE, pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Swanton. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home on Wednesday from 12 to 2 p.m.

CHERYL L. ELDRED
HIGHGATE CENTER -- Cheryl L. Edlred, age 48, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 17, 2003, at her home with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 31, 1954, in St. Albans, the daughter of Cora Belle (Wright) Steinhour and the late Linwood H. Steinhour.
She was a resident of Highgate Center for the past 18 years and was a former resident of Westford. She worked many years as a day care provider until she went to work at McDonalds in St. Albans, where she left behind many friends. She was a member of the Mountain View Tabernacle Church in Belvidere and the Belvidere Cemetery Association.
Cheryl always had a special love for her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Kermet Eldred Jr. of Highgate Center; a daughter and her husband, Cathy and Jay Boissoneault of Georgia; her grandchildren, Brendon, Bryant, Brent and Macie Boissoneault; two stepsons and their wives, Justin and Gabriel Eldred and Kevin and Kelly Eldred, both of Colebrook, N.H.; two step-daughters, Jennifer Eldred and Jessica Eldred and her friend Paul McAllister, both of Colebrook, N.H.; her step-grandchildren, Tarren, Hannah, Kevin Jr. and Jamie; her mother, Cora Belle Steinhour of Enosburg Falls; one brother, Linwood Steinhour Jr. of Burlington; three sisters, Evelyn Royce and her husband Wayne of Silsbee, Texas, Patrinka Vieta and her husband Gary of Highgate Center, and Tammy MacKenzie of Highgate Center; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Sarah Loyer of Swanton; her mother-in-law, Beverly Eldred of Belvidere; and many cousins, including a special cousin, Diane Burnham of North Troy; and a special friend, Donna Smith of Highgate. Besides her father, she was predeceased by a sister, Molly Bea Steinhour.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Mountain View Tabernacle Church in Belvidere with Pastor Michael Parsons officiating, assisted by Pastor Patrick Hoadley of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Berkshire. Interment will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
