HUGH S. GROSS
EAST ENOSBURG ญญ Hugh S. Gross, age 66, died Saturday morning April 12, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Enosburgh, the son of the late Avery and Hazel (Stevens) Gross.
He was a life long resident of Enosburgh and a 1955 graduate of Enosburgh Falls High School. Along with his brother, David, he owned and operated a farm and sugar house in East Enosburgh. Hugh especially enjoyed sugaring, having spent all day Friday in the sugar house boiling with his brother, David. He also enjoyed working in their vegetable garden and planting gladiolas.
He is survived by his brother, David Gross, of East Enosburgh; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Shover, of Richford; three nieces and a nephew; many close friends ad neighbors. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Shover.
Visiting hours will be held one hour prior to the funeral which will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.

HAZEL M. LaBELLE
ST. ALBANS ญญ Hazel M. LaBelle, 90, died Saturday evening, April 12, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in Montgomery Center, the daughter of Pearl Ruth (LaFountain) and Lomby LaBelle, on Dec. 28, 1912. She was one in a family of three girls and four boys. Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Hazel graduated from Richford High School in 1931. At that time, it was difficult to find work in a small town. Consequently, she worked as a waitress, a baby sitter, and did whatever she could to help support her family.
She worked at Shepherd Electric as a clerk and bookkeeper for a year and a half. She then worked for a little over a year at the A & P store.
After that, she moved to St. Albans, where her sister Marion was working for the New England Telephone Company. She worked for Champlain Motors as a bookkeeper and was there for nine years, at which time the business closed.
Hazel then became the office secretary for William S. Dempsey, MD, and was there for 19 years, when suddenly the doctor died.
On her day off, she also worked for Mr. Curt Smith, owner of Champlain Motors, to finish the office work at his home, Seven Acres.
While working at Dr. Dempsey's, she and some of the other medical assistants, along with the Burlington and Rutland girls, started a medical group. It was named Vermont Association of Medical Assistants, VAMA. They then joined the national group, American Association of Medical Assistants, AAMA.
Hazel was financial secretary of the Vermont association for many years. She also was a delegate to the national group several times. The national group had a convention once a year, each year in a different state. She was a member for 11 years.
She was active in all St. Mary's Church affairs and has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court of St. Mary's for over 55 years. After retiring, she and her sister spent winters in Florida in different areas. After Marion died in 1994, Hazel returned to the St. Petersburg area.
Hazel is survived by her nephews Lomby LaBelle, and his wife, Mathilda, of Enosburg, Richard LaBelle and his wife, Eva, of St. Albans, her nieces, Jeanette Nichols, and her husband, Peter, of Enosburg, whom Hazel lived with in recent years, and Lily LaBelle Beyor, of St. Albans, and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Marion and Florence LaBelle, and her five brothers, Clarence, Clyde, Leonard, Guy, and Ralph LaBelle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in the LaBelle family plot in Hillside Cemetery in Richford at a later date.
Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403, or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
FRANKLYN TARBOX
BRADFORD -- Franklyn Charles Tarbox, 83, a former Bradford resident, died April 5, 2003, at Hanover Terrace Healthcare, Hanover. He was born March 26, 1920, in Piermont, the son of Charles Agustus and Eunice Belle (Glover) Tarbox.
As a young man, he lived with his foster parents, Fred Walter and Doris C. Tarbox in Bradford. He attended the Goshen Grade School and graduated from Bradford Academy.
During World War II he served in India with the United States Army Air Corps. After his discharge from the service, he worked on a farm in St. Albans before moving to Miami, Fla.
In 1947 in Roanoke, Va., he married Frances Bagby, who survives him. For many years, Mr. Tarbox was a building inspector for the City of Miami, Fla. and later owned the Tarbox and Son Construction Company. After his retirement, he and his wife wintered in Florida and summered at their home in Woodsville.
Mr. Tarbox was a man of great character who loved life and family. He will be remembered as a loving, giving person who left the world a better place by his having been here.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Frances Tarbox of Hanover; a granddaughter, Malinda Long of Candler, N.C.; sisters, Mary Tarbox Howe of Milton, Vt., Julia Constantine of St. Albans; Ercell Tarbox Wood of Bedford, Texas, and Patricia Tarbox Hines of Bradford; a brother, Fred W. Tarbox of Titusville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Tarbox; a daughter, Susan Tarbox Long; a brother, William Tarbox; and two sisters, Lillian Lyons and Mabel Tarbox.
There were no calling hours. Funeral services were held April 10, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home, Upper Plain, Bradford, with the Reverend Harvey Bartlett officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hale Funeral Home of Bradford.
PATRICIA K. ROUNDS
FAIRFIELD -- Patricia K. Rounds, 45, of West Street died Thursday evening, April 10, 2003, at her home surrounded by those she loved, following a battle with Cushing disease.
Patty was born in St. Albans on Feb. 18, 1958, the daughter of Meredith R. and Regina Lasnier Marshall. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans Class of 1977. She lived and worked in the Franklin County area all of her life. She loved the country life and just being outdoors.
She married William J. Rounds 23 years ago, a very caring and loving man, who survives her. He has been her caregiver for the last year.
She is also survived by her daughter, Precious, who is attending Castleton College obtaining a four-year degree in Case Management. Patty's life was her daughter and husband. She was happy with them and wanted nothing else.
She also leaves her mother, Regina of Fairfield, and her sisters, Debbie Hemingway and her husband, William, of St. Albans, Mary Button and her husband, Jack, of Enosburg, and Donna Lovely and her husband, Larry, of St. Albans.
Patty was predeceased by her father, a man she adored, Meredith Marshall.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Sylvia Gilman for her care and Franklin County Home Health and Hospice program for being their for the family.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Minor Funeral Home with the Reverend Oren Lane officiating. Burial will be later in the Jeffersonville Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.
MARION MINOR TRACEY, LPN
FAIRFIELD/ST. ALBANS -- Marion Minor Tracey, LPN, 85, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, April 6, 2003, at Holiday House Nursing Facility in St. Albans following a long illness. She was born in Fairfield Sept.. 28, 1917, the daughter of the late John E. and Lulu (Lapan) Minor.
Marion graduated from the Soule School in Fairfield and the Thompson School of Nursing. She was a nurse at the Rochester Hospital in New York City until 1962 when she returned to Fairfield. She then nursed at the St. Albans Hospital until it closed. She was known there as "The Flying Nurse."
She was then employed at Kerb's Memorial Hospital (now Northwestern Medical Center) and later at Holiday House Nursing Facility until she was no longer able to work.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, a member of the St. Albans Garden Club, Fairfield Home Demonstration Group, and the St. Albans Historical Society.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Tracey of Swanton; a brother, John E. Minor, Jr., of St. Albans; his sons, Steven Minor and Ronald Minor and his wife Jan. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Jane Minor and her daughter, Rita, and Ruby Minor and her children, Thomas, Marion and Marie Minor, all of Fairfield; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas and Kenneth Minor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield. Interment will be later this spring in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

RUTH E. WRIGHT
LENOX, Mass. -- Ruth E. Wright, 79, of 32 Old Stockbridge Road, Lenox, Mass., died April 2, 2003, at her home.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y. on Dec. 21, 1923, the daughter of Robert J. and Ethel C. Hambidge Gray, she moved when she was a child to Great Barrington with her family where she attended local schools and was a 1942 graduate of the former Searles High School. She also graduated in 1945 from the former Henry W. Bishop III Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield.
Mrs. Wright and her husband, Stanley F. Wright, whom she married on Sept. 1, 1946, had made their home in Lenox since 1950. Mr. Wright died March 5, 1997.
A Registered Nurse, she worked for 12 years for the late Dr. Carl and Bergan at his office in Lenox. She was later employed at the former Edgecombe Nursing Home in Lenox for 18 years, retiring in 1986.
Mrs. Wright was a communicant of Trinity Church in Lenox and was a member of the Trinity Church Craft Guild, sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was also a Brownie Scout Leader, was a member of the Henry W. Bishop III Alumnae Association, and as a girl belonged to the Girls Friendly Society.
She is survived by three daughters, Dianne R. Pierce of Singer, La., Deborah J. Haskins of Farmington, Conn., and Doreen W. LaFlam of Swanton; one brother, Robert J. Gray Jr. of Sebastian, Fla.; seven loving grandchildren, Andrea Nicholls, Jessica Miller, Thomas Pierce Jr., Elissa Haskins, Keith Haskins, Jason LaFlam, and Sarah LaFlam; and her six beloved great-grandchildren, including Gary Arthur Pierce, who for four years lived with his great-grandmother.
The funeral was Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church in Lenox, Mass. with the Reverend Nancy Miller, interim Rector of Trinity, and the Reverend Stephen Harding, of New York City, officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery.
