OMER E. GODIN
ENOSBURG FALLS - Omer E. Godin, age 88, died Wednesday morning, March 12, 2003, at Foyer de Sutton Nursing Home in Sutton, Que. Canada.
He was born Aug. 30, 1914, in St. Armand, Que. Canada, the son of the late Onesime and Evelina (Couture) Godin.
Omer moved to Vermont from Canada in 1948 and was employed with several area dairy farms before purchasing a dairy farm in Enosburgh Center in 1962, retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and gardening.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Godin of Enosburg Falls, Roger Godin and his wife Tracie of Constable, N.Y., and Pierre Godin and his friend Brenda Minckler of Enosburg Falls; four daughters and their husbands, Marie Claire "Mary" and Real Laroche of Highgate Center, Pauline and Adrian Allen of Enosburg Falls, Diane and Galen Hanna of Hinesburg, and Suzanne and Philip Parent of Sheldon; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Fernande (Plante) Godin; four brothers, Leopold, Onesime, Wilfred and Hormidas Godin; six sisters, Cecile Bourdon, Louise Fontaine, Amanda LeBlanc, Angeline Bourgea, Agnes Martel, and Laure Anna Martin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Benedict Kiely celebrating the mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be Friday evening from 6 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

GORDON CHARLES LAWLISS
FAIRFAX/WILLIAMSTOWN -- Our beloved Gordon Lawliss, age 91, passed away March 10, 2003. He was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Calais, Vt. He married Bea Tripp, who predeceased him on Jan. 6, 1995, after 61-years of marriage.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Atwell and her husband Flem of Montana, and Brenda Barr and her husband Briane and Gordon's granddaughter Heather, all of Fairfax, whom Gordon lived with for 18 years; six other grandchildren, Arlene Smith of Ohio, Kyle Atwell of Ohio, Leigh Atwell of Montana, Shawn Atwell of Virginia, Sherry Pump of Louisiana, Cindy Santino of Tennessee; and several other great-grandchildren.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral services. A Masonic Graveside Service with inurnment will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Williamstown at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gordon's memory to the American Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403.

LORRAINE MILDRED (CHURCH) FORTIN
ST. ALBANS -- Lorraine M. (Church) Fortin, 87, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Haven Health Care following an extended illness. She was born in St. Albans on June 14, 1915, the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha (Mayo) Church. She was married to Osburn P. Watson who died in 1938 and her second husband, Joseph Fortin died in 1971.
For many years Lorraine was a cook at the former Champlain Motel on South Main St. She enjoyed bingo and crocheting. She was a member of the Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veteran of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, St. Albans Chapter 321.
Survivors include her son Phillip Watson and his wife, Rowaine, of St. Albans; two sisters, Mrs. Oren (Joyce) Thibault of St. Albans and Mrs. Ronald (Janice) Murphy of St. Albans and Florida; two granddaughters, Mrs. Harold (Sharon) Cross of St. Albans and Ms. Sheila Rose and her fiancé, Dean Bartemy of St. Albans; four great-grandchildren, Krystal Pouliot, Shawna Cross, Steven Pouliot and Sierra Rose; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husbands she was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Ladabouche and Gladys Cochran; and five brothers, Vernal, Neil, Lyle, Merle and Alden Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Oren Lane of St. Paul's United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.

WINNIE LYDIA THOMPSON
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Winnie Lydia Thompson, age 59, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born in Richford Oct. 6, 1943, the daughter of the late Elmer and Ellareta (Pollander) Wetherby.
Winnie enjoyed knitting, shopping, bingo, helping Bob farm, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Thompson of Enosburg Falls; three sons, Robert Thompson and his wife, Tonya, of Berkshire, Randy Thompson and his friend Judy Brooks of Berkshire, and Rusty Thompson and his wife, Brenda, of Enosburg Falls; two daughters, Lori-Ann Lagro and her husband, Dave, of Berkshire, and Stacy-Lynn Delisle and her husband, Duane, of Bakersfield; a brother, Robert Wetherby of Richford; three sisters and their husbands, Lydia Lawyer and Larry Carr, Anne and Charles Loiselle, and Robin and Stuart Guyette, all of Richford; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Tanya Maskell.
Friends and relatives may call on the family one hour prior to the funeral which will be held Thursday morning at 10 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will be this spring in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.

JOHN R. (JACK) BRANON, SR.
MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- John R. (Jack) Branon, Sr., 68, entered into rest on Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, with his family at his side. He was born on April 26, 1934 in Fairfield.
A graduate of St. Michael's College in Winooski, he served in the Army. After his service in the Army he moved to California. He was a retired realtor, founder and owner of Branon Realty and was a long time resident of Morgan Hill, Calif.
He is survived by his wife Sally; sons, John Jr. and Todd. Jack was one of 10 children born to E. Frank and Mary Branon of Fairfield. He is survived by three brothers, The Reverend Phillip Branon of South Hero, Ralph Branon of Burlington, and Paul Branon of Acton, Mass.; and many relatives and close friends across the country. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Barry Branon, Francis Branon, Charlene Branon Cosgrove, Robert Branon, Rosemary Branon and Charles Branon.

OWEN CURTIS McCUIN, JR.
HIGHGATE CENTER -- Owen Curtis McCuin, Jr. a lifelong resident of the Highgate Center community, died Sunday morning, March 9, 2003, in his home surrounded by his wife and family. He was born in Highgate Center, Feb. 27, 1925, the son of the late Owen C. McCuin, Sr. and Ella (Edwards) McCuin.
He graduated from Highgate High School and attended Dartmouth College. On Aug. 16, 1952, he married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Corey, who survives him.
O. C. McCuin and Sons, a family owned grain and hardware business, was founded by Owen's late father in 1920 and he became a partner in 1948 continuing to be active in the business until his death. He was a 50-year member of the Lincoln Lodge F&A.M. in Enosburg Falls and a longtime member of the Highgate Lodge 69, IOOF. Always concerned with the welfare of the youth in Highgate he was one of the founders of the Highgate Arena and ball fields. He also faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
In addition to his wife, Betty, of over 50 years, Owen leaves a daughter, Joyce Ashton and her husband William and two sons, Owen McCuin III and his wife Debra; and Corey McCuin and his companion Kathy Chugkowski all of Highgate; and one brother, Charles Ashton McCuin and his wife, Glenna, of Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jason McCuin and his wife, Nicole, Kylie Mullen, Jamie McCuin, Tanner McCuin, Tara McCuin, Katie McCuin, Kelly McCuin, Rebecca Ashton and Wade Ashton; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Helen Jane McCuin of Enfield, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Owen was predeceased by a brother, Realtus McCuin; two nephews, James McCuin and Robert Corey; his wife's parents, Charles and Blanche Corey; her sister, Joyce Tune; and brother and sister in-law, Robert and Gemma Corey.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Highgate United Methodist Church, Route 78, Highgate Center. The pastor, The Reverend Marcheta Townsend will officiate. Interment will take place later in the McCuin family lot in the Highgate Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

FRANK R. NICHOLS, SR.
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Frank R. Nichols, Sr., age 76, died early Monday, March 10, 2003, at Haven Health Care, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes and kidney failure. He was born son of the late Frank and Gladys (Graham) Nichols Oct. 6, 1926, in Hanover N.H.
Frank served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning, he married Marilyn Hoague on Oct. 15, 1948. He worked for the Central Vermont Railroad for 40 years as a Section Man for the Road Dept., retiring in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 758, AARP, and the St. Albans Area Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; two sons, Frank R. Nichols, Jr. and Michael Nichols; two granddaughters and their spouses, Deborah Adams and her husband, Michael, of St. Albans, and Justina Fink and her husband, Michael, of Virginia; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Fred Nichols and his wife, Beverly, of Berkshire, Ralph Nichols and his wife, Geraldine, of Charlestown, N.H., Peter Nichols and his wife, Jeanette, of Enosburg, and William Graham; his two sisters, Viola Perron of East Highgate and Lillian Maillous of Rhode Island; a sister-in-law, Violetta Poppers of Springfield, Mass.; and brother-in-law, Harold Hoague and his wife, Wanda, of Enosburg Falls; special friends, Fred and Barb Maskell of Highgate, and Bill and Lorraine Thompson of Swanton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his twin children, Donna and Donald Nichols; a son, Richard Nichols; brother, Joseph Nichols; and sister, Doreen Nichols Connley.
A funeral service will be held at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel, Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

ASA JOHN LIVINGSTON, II
ST. ALBANS BAY -- Asa John "Banky" Livingston, 72, passed away peacefully at his home with his family and friends present early Saturday morning, March 8, 2003. He was born in Richford April 26, 1930, the middle child of the late Asa Crawford and Lelia Mae (Gross) Livingston.
John attended public schools in Richford and graduated in 1948 from the Richford High School where he was an above average student and received a letter in every sport. He received a scholarship to the University of Vermont and attended for two years until an illness required him to leave. In 1950 he resumed his education at Springfield College. In 1952 he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War. He returned in 1953 with an honorable discharge after serving on the front line. John graduated in 1956 from the Springfield College with a Bachelors Degree in Science and Education.
In 1958 in Sutton, Quebec John married Carolyn Annette Westover and they had three children, Heather, Scott and Shawn. At this time he was hired by Bellows Free Academy to teach science. In 1961 he attended the Academic Year Institute at the University of Utah where he received his Masters in Education and returned to B.F.A. His chemistry students loved him and he went to great measures to teach and coach the kids of B.F.A. He was known to his students as "Mr. L." or "Mr. Liv" or "Mr. Livy". He taught Drivers Education for automobile and motorcycle, both at B.F.A. and privately from his home. He retired from B.F.A. in 1989. He also worked for the U.S. Customs at the Port of Entry in Highgate and the Burlington International Airport.
John was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion, and the Harley Owners Group. He loved to fish, hunt and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren who fondly called him "Banky". He will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of life and his kind and gentle spirit.
Survivors include his former wife and still close friend, Carol, of St. Albans Bay; three children and their spouses, Heather and Brian Barrette of Sheldon and their children, Cody, Taylor and Samantha, John Scott and Donna Livingston of St. Albans Bay, and their children, Luke, Kylah and Hunter John, and Adam Shawn and Ellen Livingston of Jeffersonville. He also leaves a younger brother, William Livingston of Brattleboro and his daughter, Gail and her husband, William "Hodgie" Hodgson. He was predeceased by an older sister, Barbara Jean Strohm. Also surviving John are her children, Nancy, Cindy, Phyllis Anne, Polly, Kathy, Margaret, Laurie, Stephen and George Walsh who was very special to John, as well as other relatives and numerous friends and neighbors.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Dennis E. Hayward officiating. Interment with full military honors will be this spring in the family lot in St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
