GUY W. HOPE, JR.
ST. ALBANS -- Guy W. Hope, Jr. age 45, died Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center, following an extended illness. He was born in Burlington March 16, 1958, son of Guy W. Hope, Sr. and Theresa (Provost) Hope.
Guy graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1976. He served in the U.S. Army and later joined the Vermont Air National Guard. He was the owner of Hope's Construction Company and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, model building, miniature rocket launching, but his favorite pastime was construction.
He married Candy Abair June 25, 1983. Besides his wife he is survived by their daughter, Alicia; his parents, Guy and Theresa Hope of St. Albans; his three brothers, Mark and Wendy Hope of Essex, Jay Hope of Burlington and Scott Hope of St. Albans; sister, Linda Hope of Arizona; maternal grandmother, Vivian Provost of St. George; mother-in-law, Irene Abair; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellen Abair, Terry Abair, Randy and Johnna (Daignault) Abair, all of St. Albans; and several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Clifford Provost and paternal grandparents, Clarence and Jeanne Hope.
Candy and Guy's family wish to extend special thanks to his special friend, Danny Bates and his family, Dr. Christian Thomas, Franklin County Home Health Agency Staff, and AmCare.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in the Hope family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Vermont Cancer Division, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

CAROLINE A. HALE
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Caroline A. Hale, age 87, widow of Burton H. Hale, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the home of her eldest son, Richard Hale and his wife Georgette.
She was born in Bakersfield Dec. 8, 1915, the daughter of the late Andrew and Cora (Draper) Lawyer.
She graduated from Brigham Academy in 1935 and was one of the oldest active alumni. She was a long time and very active member and Deacon of the East Fairfield Congregational Church where she was also the Vice President of the Women's Fellowship Group. She enjoyed being with her many friends at her Bible Study Group and church meetings for which she especially loved preparing for those meetings at her home.
Along with her husband, they raised their family on the family farm in East Fairfield which they had bought in 1937. Caroline thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of farm life from sugaring to feeding birds to caring for the animals. She was deeply devoted to providing a warm and secure home for her husband and children. This dedication led her to working side by side with them in the hay fields, in the barn, or wherever else was necessary. In her extra time she loved doing her house work and making lots of bread and other goodies. She also had an open door for any child in need of advice or encouragement. She was known as Gamma by all of the many children in East Fairfield and was loved by many people.
She is survived by four daughters, and their husbands, Barbara and Horace Riley of East Fairfield, Cora and David Ovitt of Bakersfield, Carolyn and Robert Clark of Milton, and Brenda and Brian Wright of Waterbury Ctr.; five sons and their wives, Richard and Georgette Hale of Bakersfield, Burton Hale of Franklin, Stuart and Ruth Hale of Albany, Marvin and Sandy Hale of South Hadley, Mass., and Mark and Terry Hale of East Fairfield.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Diana Young, John Riley, Lisa Riley, Scott Hale, Glenn Hale, Tina Bailey, David P. Ovitt, Mike Ovitt, Kim Ovitt, Brian Ovitt, Kelly Godin, Audra Rondeau, Andrew Hale, Travis Hale, Stephanie Boise, Sarah Clark, Seth Clark, Stuart Hale Jr., Adam Hale, Carol Rowell, Jason Hale, Jennifer Hale, Benjamin Hale, Amy Krieger, Emily Hale, Matthew Hale, Jordan Hale and Courtney Hale; her great-grandchildren, Victoria, Isabelle, Joshua, Logan, Jennifer, Jonathan, Erynn, Tyler, Carrie, Shane, Kayla, Elisabeth, Rebekah, Owen, Katie, Chris, Mitchell, Ramie, Gratia, Alora, J.J., Zachary, Chris, Alex, Alaura, Randy, Carmen, Christian, Trevor and Christina; a great-great-grandson, Austin; a sister-in-law, Margery Lawyer of Bakersfield.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by three grandchildren, Kevin Nicholls, Nicole and Steven Hale; five brothers, Charles, Jack, Artemus, Darius and Woodman; two sisters, Ruth and Kit.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church on the park in East Fairfield with Pastor Marshall True officiating. Interment will be later this spring in the Egypt Cemetery in East Fairfield.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

J. ARTHUR FALCON
SOUTH HERO -- J. Arthur Falcon, 82, died Thursday evening, March 13, 2003, at his home in South Hero with his loving family by his side, following a long illness. Arthur was born in St. Armand, P.Q., the son of Joseph and Rose - Alma ( Forgues ) Falcon. He was married to Juliette Goulet on Aug. 20, 1949, in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski.
Arthur was a hard working husband and father. He worked for several years as a farmer before owning and operating the South Hero Grocery, which he and his wife ran for many years. Following selling the store he went to work for the Town of South Hero, where he worked for over 15 years. During and after this time he also ran his own trucking company.
In addition to his wife Juliette, of over 54 years, Arthur is survived by his daughter, Sylvie (Falcon) Breault and her husband Rick of South Hero; by his grandchildren, Tricia Breault of South Hero, Renee Breault of Morrisville, and Jason Breault of South Hero; by his brothers and sisters, Wilfred Falcon and his wife Rejeanne, Almeda Pelletier, Normand Falcon and his wife Marie - Claire, Rosala Paquette, Armand - Gilles Falcon and his wife Francoise, Angela Pelletier and her husband Elie and Marie - Anna Labonte all of Canada. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Aime Plouffe of Colchester; and many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was predeceased by his brother Georges - Emile Falcon and his sister Rose - Eva Falcon; his brother-in-laws Maurice Pelletier, Rosaire Paquette and Jean - Guy Labonte, and by Juliette siblings Helena Larose, Aurea Plouffe, Bernard Goulet and Normand Goulet.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today, March 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Hero by the Reverend Philip Branon.

MARALYN ROWLEY FLAHERTY
RICHFORD -- Maralyn Rowley Flaherty, age 77, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at her home with her loving family at her side. She was born May 13, 1925, the daughter of the late Ross and Hazel (Barney) Rowley.
She was a graduate of Richford High School and worked several years as a photographer for U.S. Naval Aviation in Philadelphia, Pa. Maralyn was a kind, compassionate and loving person. Her cheerful spirit, unique outlook on life, love of music, art and nature will always be remembered by her family and many friends.
She is survived by her uncle, William "Dig" Rowley of Richford and his niece, Betty Ann Dzelzitis of Warren; her two nieces and their husbands, Judith and Vaughn Button of Huntington, and Sally and Roy McAllister of Richford; several great-nieces, nephews, and cousins; a sister-in-law, Muriel Sheperd Rowley of Richford. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Robert Rowley.
In keeping with Maralyn's wishes she will be cremated and graveside memorial services will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the family lot in the Hillside Cemetery in Richford.

THOMAS M. SCOTT
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Thomas M. Scott, age 42, died unexpectedly while at work in Rutland Thursday, March 13, 2003. He was born Feb. 11, 1961, in Boston, Mass., son of William H. Scott Jr. and Phyllis (Draper) Scott.
He graduated from BFA where he played varsity soccer. He married Bernadette Bessette Sept. 28, 1985. Tom was employed as a field foreman with Chuck's Heating and Ventilation Company. Tom assisted with the St. Albans Hockey Association for many years. He will be remembered for his desire to help people, and for having a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and co-workers.
Tom is survived by his wife Bernadette; a daughter, Nichol; his special canine companion, Jasper; his parents, William H. Jr. and Phyllis Scott; his three sisters, Phyllis Ann Bechard and her husband Michael of Georgia; Cheryl Scott of Wallingford, and Ellen Scott of Swanton; paternal grandmother, Lillian (Whelan) Scott; father and mother-in-law, George and Elsie Bessette of Swanton; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his brothers, William E. Scott and David P. Scott; paternal grandfather, William H. Scott Sr.; and maternal grandparents, George and Margaret (Willis) Draper.

JEAN L. LAMOTHE
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Jean Louis Lamothe, age 95, of the Lower Newton Road, died early Thursday morning, March 13, 2003, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Pike River, Quebec, Canada, Jan. 16, 1908, son of the late Wilfred and Clara (Rock) Lamothe.
Jean worked his own dairy farm and, being a carpenter, he built a few dairy barns in the Franklin County area. He formally retired in 1972. He lived in the ranch house he built with his wife Theresa (Cadieux) Lamothe, whom he married Sept. 19, 1944. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. Jean enjoyed dancing, playing cards and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Theresa; their three sons, Roger and his wife Judy Lamothe, Maurice Lamothe, and his friend Brenda Thibault, and Albert and his wife Linda Lamothe, all of St. Albans; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Perron of St. Albans and Gertrude Gregoire of Barre; four brothers and their wives, Fred and Marie Lamothe of Swanton, Paul and Rita Lamothe, Henry and Rose Lamothe, all of St. Albans, and Clement Lamothe of Watertown, Conn.; sister-in-law, Kay Lamothe of Detroit, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Darcie Lamothe; three brothers, Leo, Andrew and Robert; sisters-in-law, Anne and Donia; brothers-in-law, Roland Cadieux, Armand Perras, Louis Brodeur, Enzo Iccobucci; a niece and a nephew.

GLORIA M. TEFFT
UPPER SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. -- Gloria M. Tefft, 76, of Bartlett Carry Road, Upper Saranac Lake, N.Y., died Tuesday evening, March 11, 2003, at her home. Born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 9, 1926, she was the daughter of Theodore Cleveland and Mabel (Steve) Michaelis.
Raised in Buffalo, she graduated the class of 1944, Kensington High School. She received her bachelor of Education from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1947.
She began her teaching career in Ripley, N.Y., where she met Harry Nelson Tefft. Gloria and Harry were married in Buffalo on June 30, 1950. They raised their sons in Hamburg, N.Y. and began their acquaintance with the Adirondacks in 1949.
Mrs. Tefft's career as a fifth grade teacher spanned 29 years at Cloverbank Elementary school. Retiring from Frontier Central in Hamburg in 1981. The Tefft's built their home on Saranac shores in 1966, and became the first year-round residents of that area in 1982.
Mrs. Tefft was a lifetime member of the Beulah Chapter of the Eastern Star in Hamburg, N.Y. She was a crackerjack sports woman enjoying water and snow skiing, tennis, ice skating, and walking her dogs. More recently, reading, crosswords, and of course her family. She especially loved to entertain and host Lakeside cocktail parties after 4:30 p.m.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years; their sons, Gregory and his wife Annette Tefft of St. Albans, Geoffrey Tefft and Brenda of Lake Placid; her grandsons, Christopher, Michael and Cory Tefft of St. Albans and Bakersfield, Vt.; her step-grandchildren, Aaron and Kellie Minor and Kris Irwin, also of Vermont, and Mike and Carla Navarra of Lake Place; and her brother, Theodore and his wife Dorothy Michaelis of Medford, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced to be held on Chapel Island on Upper Saranac Lake this summer.

WYMAN C. SKEELS
GLASONBURY, CONN./SWANTON - Wyman C. Skeels, 87, recently of Glastonbury, Conn., husband of the late Virna (Robinson) Skeels, passed away peacefully in his sleep March 11, 2003. Wyman, son of Ira A. and Mattie M. Skeels, was born in Swanton, Vermont.
He worked for General Electric for 25 years in the Utica, N.Y. area, where both Wyman and Virna were active members of the New Hartford Methodist Church.
He retained close ties to Swanton, Vt. and upon retirement he and Virna returned to live there and enjoy family and friends. They spent many wonderful winters in the New Port Richey area of Florida visiting with friends. Wyman was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Swanton for 55 years.
He also was predeceased by his loving son, William A. Skeels and his sister, Barbara E. Boardman of Swanton.
Wyman is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ron Perham of Glastonbury; and three grandsons, William, David, and Michael Perham. He leaves a niece, Clare Beebe and her husband, David, of Swanton; and nephews Gary and Hal Boardman also from Swanton; his brother-in-law, Olive Robinson and many nieces and nephews from the Montreal, Quebec area.
A graveside service will be held in the Swanton Cemetery in the spring where he will be laid to rest with his loving wife and son. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, Conn. is in charge of the arrangements.
