MARY L. PERRY

MILTON -- Mary L. Perry, 61, died Tuesday March 25, 2003, in the Midwestern Regional Hospital in Zion, Ill. with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Abercorn, P.Q., Canada, on Feb. 17, 1942, the daughter of Miles and Marjorie (Wilson) Lahue.

She was raised in South Hero and attended Milton High School. She resided in Milton where she raised five children. She later married Clifford Perry of Westford, a man that met the challenge of Mary's life and catered to all her needs.

Mary's life was filled with a great amount of love and sharing, caring and providing for those who knew her. She was so incredible and influential for all of us. Mary's enthusiasms included mostly her family. The time and energy she applied to everything she did was so admirable, putting herself behind the needs of all her family. Much of her time, energy and love was spent sharing her passion for horses with her grandchildren. She will be irreplaceable.

In addition to her husband, Cliff, of over 23 years, Mary is survived by her children: daughter Anne Adams of Milton and her fiance, Blaine Gordon, her grandson Michael Adams and fiancee, Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Tyler and Sydney, grandson Matthew Adams and wife, Melissa, great-grandsons, Noah and Skyler, and granddaughters Abigail and Lindsey; daughter Theresa Braden and husband, Mark, of Franklin, grandchildren Josh, Amber, Conner, Dylan, Sawyer, Carter, Carson and great-granddaughters, Maddison and Macy; Mary's daughter Priscilla Abbott and husband, Matthew, of Sheldon, grandchildren Chad, Brittney, Bailey, Austen, Tanner and Sage; Mary's daughter Gail Haupt and husband, Thomas Raftery, of Milton, granddaughter, Ashley and great-granddaughter, Tori and granddaughter Hannah; Mary's son, Armand Turner Jr., and wife, Christine, of Milton, grandchildren Jacob, Tyler, Jessica and husband, Paul, Maranda and Armand III; Clifford's children Chris Perry and wife, Rebecca, of Oakland, Calif., and Michelle Martin and husband, Brian, of Colchester and grandchildren Lydia, Cyrus and Abigael.

Mary is also survived by her mother, Marjorie Mayville, and her husband, Ted, of South Hero; her brothers Warren Lahue and wife, Mary, and Kevin Lahue and wife, Kristin, all of South Burlington, Michael Mayville and wife, Kathy, of Burlington; her sister Valerie Gray and husband, Robert, of Fairfax, her uncles and aunts Wayne and Kitty Wilson of Salt Point, N.Y., Alton and Pat Wilson of Millbrook, N.Y., and Edna Wilson of Brockton, Mass., and by several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special cousins, Glenn and Debbie Button of Milton and her special friend, Linda Kristiansen of Milton as well as all her friends in the horse world.

Mary was predeceased by her father, Myles Lahue, her uncles Glen and Fred Wilson, and her grandparents Margaret and Harold Wilson, and Peter and Albina Lahue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary's name to Cancer Research of America, specifically for pancreatic research, 2520 Elisha Avenue, Zion, Ill. 60099.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the United Church of Milton with the Reverend Peter D. MacLean officiating. Burial will be in the South Hero Cemetery in the spring. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, located on Rt. 7 in Milton.

NORMA IRENE LAVALLEY

MILTON -- Norma Irene (Baxter) (Zeno) Lavalley, age 81, of Manley Road, Milton, passed away on Monday morning, March 24, 2003, at Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester. She was born in Milton on April 5, 1921, daughter of the late Ethan and Margie (Fitch) Baxter, Sr.

Norma was married to her first husband, Leo Zeno for 22 years. He passed away in March, 1963. She was married to her second husband, Francis A. Lavalley, Sr. for 22 years. He passed away in October, 1994. She was an avid gardener and loved her vegetable garden, flowers and blueberries. Norma also loved to pick wild strawberries and made a variety of jams and jellies. Through the years, Norma enjoyed crocheting, knitting, Artex painting and quilting, making several for families and friends.

Norma enjoyed being a ham and CB radio operator. She was one of the first 10 in the state of Vermont to have an FCC license. Through the radio, she helped many truckers and travelers during hazardous road conditions. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Zeno) Melton and her husband, Mitchell, of Milton; her son, Lewis Zeno and his wife, Laurel (Cary) Zeno, of Milton; two step-children, Francis Lavalley, Jr. of Colchester, and Theresa Lewis and her husband, Charles, of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Fitch Baxter of Swanton, and Ethan Baxter, Jr. of E. Dixfield, Maine; four grandchildren, Terry Melton, Eric Melton and his wife, Shireen, of St. Albans, Kimberly (Zeno) Fuller and her husband, David, of Georgia, and Holly (Zeno) McRae and her husband, Joseph, of Milton; several step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Abigail McRae, Tyler McRae, Jared Melton, and Mattia Fuller; two sisters-in-law, Connie (Baxter) Tung of Mass., and Lillian Baxter of Burlington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also predeceased by her sister, Bernice Hibbard in 1992; three brothers, Clinton Baxter in 2002, Earl Baxter in 1950, and Calvin Baxter in 1984.

Visiting hours will be held today, Wednesday, March 26, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. A wake service will be offered by Reverend John Feltz at the funeral home at 3:45 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated with Reverend John Feltz and Reverend Jay Haskins on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Church, Milton. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Milton.

IVAN LEO PAUL MASSE

SWANTON/ONTARIO -- Ivan Masse passed away on March 1, 2003, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario following a brief illness. Ivan, in his 78th year, was one of 21 children born to Onezime and Mabel Masse of St. Joseph, Ontario.

Ivan is survived by seven of his brothers and sisters. Ivan was predeceased by his wife, Ann Magill-Masse in September of 2002, a son, James Masse, and a granddaughter, Vanessa Bourne.

He was a husband to Doreen Ivy Masse (Wilkinson), currently of North Bay and is survived by nine children: daughter Janet Pleau and husband, Bob, of Oakville, son, Jerry Masse and wife, Sally, of North Bay, Susan Langan and husband, Michael, of Delaware, Ivan Masse and his wife, Diane, of London, Paul Masse and wife, Denise, of Oakville, and John Masse and wife, Nidia, of Mississauga.

Ivan is also survived by 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ivan was a truck driver for more than 40 years, and during his retirement had one of the most prosperous vegetable gardens in Swanton, Vt. Ivan will be deeply missed by his many family and friends in Toronto, London, North Bay and in Vermont, including his beloved dog, "Bucky."

At Ivan's request, a burial service only was held on Thursday, March 6, 2003, at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Bay, Ontario, followed by a gathering to which all of his family and friends are welcome.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ivan's memory to the Credit Valley Hospital (Mississauga) Cancer Center.

WARREN STUART PARADEE

SWANTON -- Warren S. Paradee, 82, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Fairfield, June 17, 1920, the son of the late Ward S. and Grace (Gibson) Paradee. Warren married Frances E. Foster on May 23, 1953, in Shelburne. Frances predeceased him on Sept. 25, 1998.

Warren served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He then operated his dairy farm in Swanton and was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church, Sheldon Cemetery Association Board of Directors, Lincoln Lodge 78, F. & A.M., and the Retired Mail Carriers Association.

Survivors include his daughter, Wendy Cota of Swanton; a son, Wynn Paradee and his wife, Pauline of Swanton; four grandchildren, Natalie and Amber Paradee and Casey and Chase Cota. Besides his wife, Frances, he was predeceased by a grandson, Shane Cota on June 8, 1992; a sister, Carolyn White; a sister-in-law, Rita B. Foster; a half-sister, Marguerite Boomhower; and three half-brothers, Albert, Donald, and Gordon Paradee.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the Sheldon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donavee Copenhaver officiating. Interment will be later this spring in the family lot in Sheldon Village Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sheldon United Methodist Church, c/o Thelma Stebbins, 3133 East Sheldon Road, Enosburg, Vt. 05450.

ISABEL ROSE SMITH

SWANTON -- Isabel Rose Smith, infant daughter of Jessica Richards and David Smith, both of Swanton, died Friday morning, March 21, 2003, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington. Isabel was born in Burlington on March 19, 2003.

Besides her parents she leaves a brother and sister, Tyler Richards and Kaitlin Smith, both of Swanton; maternal grandparents, Harry Richards of Swanton and Donna Richards of Richford, and Lynn Martell of St. Albans; paternal grandparents, Harold Mooney of Highgate, Norman and Laura Smith of Wardsboro and Deborah Mooney of Swanton; maternal great-grandparents, Alfred "Timmer" Richards of Highgate Center, and Eleanor Ball of North Ferrisburg; paternal great-grandparents, Evelyn Mooney of San Diego, Calif. and Hilda St. Francis of Swanton; aunts and uncles, Abigail Richards of Highgate, Jennifer Richards of St. Albans, Kyle Lovely of St. Albans, Tanya Lovely of St. Albans, Debbie Smith of Massachusetts, Becky Smith of Massachusetts, Amy Smith of Wardsboro, Bobby Smith of Colorado, Shawn St. Francis of Swanton and Charles Mooney of Swanton; as well as great-aunts, uncles, Mike and June Richards of Swanton, Lori and Tom Erno of Highgate, Val and Bill Phillips of Highgate, Ronnie St. Francis of Swanton, Patsy Corwell of St. Albans, Tina Brace and Jimmy Brace of St. Albans; as well as several cousins and friends.

Isabel was predeceased by a half brother, Zackery Smith in 1997; maternal great-grandmother, Barbara Richards and Paternal great-grandfathers, Gerald Mooney and Hubert St. Francis Sr.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 28, 2003, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, director of St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

CYNTHIA SMITH COOK

ST. ALBANS -- Cynthia S. Cook, 48, of St. Albans, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, March 21, 2003, surrounded by her family, after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born in St. Albans on Aug. 19, 1954, a daughter of Hubert L. and Joyce (Glidden) Smith.

She was an extremely devoted mother, daughter, sister, "Minnie" and friend. Her husband, John C. Cook, died May 26, 1994. Together they owned and operated North County Linens. After selling the linen business, Cindy began another business, Ten Mothers Specialty Foods, which she operated for the past seven years.

Cindy was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1972 and attended the University of Vermont. She was very devoted to her family and was the best mother a child could have. She loved to shop with her best friend and daughter, Casey, have late night talks with her son, Adam, and going out to eat with her parents, Hubert and Joyce, who did everything they possibly could for her. She also enjoyed her trips to Maine with her mother and sisters, and spending time with her son-in-law, Mike, to whom she was very close. Her brightest moments were hearing and seeing Caylin laugh and the nose kisses they would exchange.

Cindy leaves: her children, Casey (Cook) Bessette and her husband, Michael; her son, Adam Cook; her parents, Hubert and Joyce Smith, all of St. Albans; her siblings, Sharon Kalahan and her husband, Kevin, of Fairfax, Randall Smith and his wife, Karen, of St. Albans, Julie Norris and her husband, Alan, of Fairfax, and Betsy Moss and her husband, Tim, of St. Albans; and many nieces and nephews. Last, but certainly not least, she leaves "Lovebug, " her granddaughter, Caylin Rose Bessette, who was her pride and joy. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Grace Cook of Williamstown; and step-children, Jeffrey Cook and his fiancee, Christina, Kevin Cook and his wife, Karen and their family, Mary Beth and Robert Bouffard and their daughter. She was predeceased by her husband, John; a son, Adam Kyle Elwood; uncles, Richard Smith and Osborne Glidden; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist church with Pastor Oren Lane officiating. Interment will be later this spring in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Contributions in Cindy's name may be made to the Linda Wood Mason Fund at Northwestern Medical Center, Fairfield St., St. Albans 05478.

Visitation will be on Monday from 7-9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

CAROL ANNE MACHIA

HIGHGATE CENTER -- Mrs. Carol Anne Machia, 60, a lifelong resident of the Highgate community, died early Friday morning, March 21, 2003, in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans City. Carol Anne was born in Highgate on Oct. 7, 1942, a daughter of the late Leo and Anna Margaret (Boylan) Cooper.

She attended Highgate High School and on July 18, 1964, was married to Rodney Machia, who survives her. For several years, and until her illness forced her to retire, Carol Anne worked in the hot lunch program for the Highgate Elementary School. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish in Highgate Center and a member of the Ladies of the Moose 1090 in St. Albans.

In addition to her husband of 39 years, Rodney Machia, of Highgate Center, Carol Anne leaves: a daughter, Kelly Hoague, and her husband, John, of Highgate Center; a son, Greg Machia, and his wife, Jessica, of Franklin; and one sister, Rosemary St. Pierre, and her husband, Morris, also of Highgate Center. She is survived by five grandchildren: Adam, Alex, Kayleigh, Dustin E. and Dustin, as well as Kayleigh and Dustin E's, mother, Angela Champagne. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Cooper, of Highgate Falls, Ilene Cooper of Richford, Larry and Alice Machia of Franklin, Pauline Minckler of Enosburg, Betty Machia of Highgate Center, and Patsy and Dan Conder of Bakersfield. She also leaves many nieces and nephews including her godsons, Sgt. Kirk Cooper of the Vermont State Police and Danny Cooper.

She was predeceased by her father, Leo Cooper, on September 30, 1994; her mother, Anna Margaret Cooper, April 15, 2000; brother, Carleton Cooper, April 13, 2001; brother, Roger Cooper, January 23, 2003; brother-in-law, Robert S. Machia, November 13, 1999; and nephew and godson, Keith Cooper, on November 14, 1995.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center. The pastor, Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Machia family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

FREDERICK DONALD PERKINS

FLETCHER -- Frederick Donald Perkins, 32, of Shaw Road died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 19, 2003, at the Northwest Medical Center in St. Albans.

Fred was born March 24, 1970, in Wareham, Mass., the son of Ralph and Debra M. Coy Perkins. On Sept. 18, 1994, he married Patricia Britton in Gatlinburg, Tenn. He was employed for many years as a truck driver and more recently for Federal Express. Fred liked playing pool and held an interest in collecting NASCAR memorabilia.

He loved kids and kids loved him. His pride and joy was his four-year-old daughter Kasey to whom Fred was affectionately called Papa. He will be missed by all.

Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia of Fletcher and their children, Kasey of Fletcher, Judith Word of Carterville, Ga. and David Love of Chattanooga, Tenn.; his parents, Ralph and Debra Perkins of Milton; his grandparents, Edgar and Ruth Perkins of Harvard, Mass. and Da Coy and his wife Claudette of Turner, Maine; his sisters and brothers, Dawn Tye and her husband Jim of Winooski, Sharon Lee Bottini and her husband Clem of Jeffersonville, Ralph Perkins Jr. of Georgia and Bill Perkins and his wife Becky of Milton; his uncle, George Coy and his wife Jenny of Milton; two nephews, Vincent Bottini, and Jimmy Tye; seven nieces; two special nephews, Zachary and Shaun of Rossville, Ga.; several cousins; and many friends, including two very special friends, Gary Longe and Gaylord Horskin both of St. Albans.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Rt. 7 in Milton with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher.

A trust fund in being established in Fred's name to benefit his daughter Kasey for use in later life. Those wishing to contribute are asked to send donations to: The New England Federal Credit Union, c/o Perkins Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 527, Williston, Vt. 05495-0527.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 24, from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral in the Minor Funeral Home, Milton.
