KATHERINE CHARLOTTE "AUNT KATE" FLYNN
MILTON -- Katherine Charlotte "Aunt Kate" Flynn, 96, of Milton, died Thursday morning Feb. 27, 2003, in the Redstone Villa Nursing Facility in St. Albans.
Katherine was born Aug. 17, 1906, in New Haven, the daughter of Homer and Mary Pender Flynn. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Abernathy's clothing store on Church street in Burlington for over 56 years.
She was very active in the Democratic party on both local and state level. Over the years, her home served as the headquarters for the democratic elections. Aunt Kate was the matriarch of her family. Time spent not working was time spent with her family. Aunt Kate often noted with pride and humor that she never had time to play bingo.
She is survived by her niece, Mary Ellen Navin of Milton; and her two nephews, Mark Kennedy and his wife Jane of Virginia and Edmund Kennedy and his wife Nancy of Barnet; her great-nieces and nephews, Kathleen (Kennedy) Runyon and her husband Jeff, Kevin Kennedy and his wife Brenda, Peter Kennedy and his wife Sage, Michael and Patrick Kennedy, Sean Navin and Janel, Beth (Navin) Channell and her husband Todd, Rich Navin and Katie (Navin) Calkins and her husband Rob. She leaves behind a special friend, Jeanne B. Kennedy. She is also survived by an even dozen of grand-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two brothers, Mark and Harold Flynn and her sister Helen Kennedy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 3, at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Catholic Church, North Avenue in Burlington with Fr. Francis Holland as celebrant. Burial will be in the spring in Holy Family Cemetery in Essex Junction.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the St. Jude Foundation, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tenn. 38105-1905, or to the Lund Family Center, 76 Glen Road, Burlington, Vt. 05401
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, Rt. 7, Milton.
FLORIDE ALTMAN GAMBLE
JOHNSONVILLE, S.C. -- Floride Altman Gamble, 85, widow of Zeb Vance Gamble, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in a Florence nursing center.
Mrs. Gamble was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late John Briley and Ethel Jean Cox Altman. She was a retired practical nurse and homemaker, a former member of the Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a graduate of Johnsonville High School.
Surviving are a son, Charles Graham (Cindy) McCullough of Rutland, Vt., five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a number of brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Prospect Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be in the Eaddy-Ford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
JUSTIN J. BREAULT
MALONE, N.Y. -- Justin J. Breault passed away on Feb. 24, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, N.Y. Born Aug. 16, 1980, in St. Albans, to the parents of Joseph and Jeanne (Choiniere).
Surviving besides his parents are his wife Amber, a son, Adam Jordon, his maternal grandparents, Charles and Lorette Choiniere of Huntington, Quebec; two brothers, Jacques and sister-in-law Candy of Massena, Jean-Guy of Brasher; a niece and two nephews.
He graduated from Massena High School in 1998. At one time he was employed in construction, later working as a herder and milker at Greenwood Farm in Madrid. He married Amber McAllister on May 27, 2000, at the Church of the Sacred Heart by the Reverend Richard Williams. He later was employed at his father's dairy farm in Brasher until he became ill with a brain tumor. He enjoying camping, fishing, traveling and family gatherings.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena, N.Y. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Massena with the Reverend Donald J. Manfred presiding.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-Town Rescue Squad.
WALTER N. BOMBARD
ST. ALBANS/VENICE, Fla. -- Mr. Walter N. Bombard, age 81, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in the Bon Secours-Venice Hospital following a brief illness. Walter was born in St. Albans May 6, 1921, son of the late Carl and Sadie (Peters) Bombard.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist First Mate during World War II. Most of his life he was a locomotive engineer for the Central Vermont Railway until his retirement in 1980. He was a lifelong communicant of Holy Angels Church and a member of the American Legion, Post 1, VFW Post 758, Disabled American Veterans, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Central Vermont Veterans Association.
On April 16, 1949, he married Shirley Stark. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jill Thoren of Inverness, Fla.; two sons, Wayne and his wife France Bombard of Freemont, Calif. and John Bombard of South Burlington; a sister, Evelyn and her husband Gordon Cassavoy of Watertown, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Sarah Smoot, Katie Adams, Kimberly Thoren, Matthew Thoren, Benjamin Bombard, Sadie Bombard, and Samuel Bombard; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; a nephew; and his beloved cat, "Toby." Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Willard Bombard in 1979.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

SARAH McGOVERN
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Sarah (Snell) McGovern, age 70, passed away peacefully at her residence Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, 2003. She was born at the Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Sept. 27, 1932, daughter of the late Lewis and Edith (Nellis) Snell.
Sarah graduated Cambridge High School, class of 1948 and McGill University, class of 1953. She taught math in various schools throughout her teaching career. As co-owner with her husband of the family business, McGovern's Incorporated, Sarah was dedicated to the detailed administrative aspect of the business.
She is survived by her husband Thomas J. McGovern of Jeffersonville; three sisters, Delia Snell of Connecticut, Elizabeth Snell of Vermont, and Joan Snell of Vermont; and many, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at St. Mary's Church, Cambridge, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Francis Holland officiating.
Interment will be in the family lot in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Underhill, in the spring at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sarah's memory to the Cambridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 431, Jeffersonville, Vt. 05464.

GRACE B. LaFLAM
MONTGOMERY -- Grace B. LaFlam, age 88, widow of Gale M. LaFlam, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Frelighsburg, Quebec, the daughter of the late Joseph and Regina (Prive) Godin.
She was a resident of Hartford and Enfield, Conn. for 25 years where she was employed at Grants Department Store retiring in 1980, and moving to Montgomery Village that same year. She made her home at Our Lady of the Meadows and Ave Maria in Richford since November of 2000. She was a member of Ladies of St. Therese and St. Anne Club. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 12 of Richford.
She is survived by three brothers, Henry Godin and his wife Geraldine of Montgomery Center, Albert Godin of Springfield, Mass. and Leo Godin of Orange, Mass.; one sister, Bertha Hart of North Troy; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Cordelia Allain, Gladys Fecteau and Theresa Smith.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at St. Isidore's Catholic Church in Montgomery Center with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be this spring in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.
Visiting hours will be held this afternoon from 2 to 4 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

ROBERT M. WALSH
ST. ALBANS -- Robert M. "Butch" Walsh, age 76, died peacefully at his home Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, following a brief illness. He was born the son of the late Joseph and Gladys (Allard) Walsh, May 6, 1926, in St. Albans.
He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1944. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. He was a member of the 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon discharge, Butch attended St. Michael's College.
Robert married Gloria Giroux June 2, 1951. She predeceased him in 1967. On July 18, 1986, he married Marion (Cioffi) Smith.
After 39 years of serve as plant accountant, he retired from Union Carbide Consumer Products Co., in St. Albans, in 1989. He was recently granted a lifetime membership from the Elks, B.P.O.E. Lodge 1566. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, and a life long communicant of St. Mary's Church.
Robert's interests included vacationing on cruise ships and going to casinos. He was a dedicated New York Giants and Boston Red Sox fan. He was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marion; four sons and their wives, Joseph and Diane Walsh of South Burlington, James and Dale Walsh of St. Albans, John and Karen Walsh of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jeffrey Walsh of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two step-daughters and their husbands, Linda and Daniel Gleason of Fairfax, and Lauren and John Baker of Daytona Beach, Fla.; his 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Julie, Michelle, Amanda, Megan, Preston, Nicholas, Jackson and Joseph Walsh, Richard Stahl, Christopher and Lindsey Gleason; his sister, Eleanor O'Brien of St. Albans; three brothers and their wives, Thomas and Patricia Walsh, William and Judy Walsh, all of St. Albans, Maurice and Barbara Walsh of Burlington; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Terese Cioffi, Robert and Nancy Cioffi of St. Albans, Celia and Burton Paquin of Swanton, Gertrude Villella of Malden, Mass., Irene Larose of Deland, Fla., Rita Larose of Agawaam, Mass., Claire and Louis Shepard of St. Albans Bay, Alicia and Paul Fredette of St. Albans; a special niece and nephew, Katy and Bruce Thompson; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, John G. O'Brien and Napoleon Bourgeois; sisters-in-law, Annette Richard and Marguerite Luman.
Butch was a gentle, quiet man, and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Interment will be in the Walsh family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.
