ARNOLD PERKINS DREW
RICHFORD -- Arnold Perkins Drew, age 88, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born March 30, 1914, in Dunham, Quebec, the son of the late Earl and Edith (Perkins) Drew.
He was a 1936 graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and then was employed for several years at Purdue University as a professor of English. Following his retirement, he made his home in Richford.
He is survived by a sister, Gwendolyn Hayden of Northfield; two nephews and their families, David Hayden of Northfield, and Richard Hayden of Sudbury, Mass.; and close friends and neighbors, Albert and Joyce Payne of Richford.
In keeping with Arnold's wishes, he will be cremated. There will be no services at this time. A graveside committal service will be held this spring in the Hillside Cemetery in Richford.
ARLENE ESTELLE LITTLEFIELD TOWNE
MILTON -- Arlene Estelle Littlefield Towne, 74, of Bear Trap Road, died Friday evening, Jan. 3, 2003, in the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester.
A lifelong resident of Milton, Arlene was born Jan. 20, 1928, in Colchester, the daughter of Harold and Cora Newton Littlefield. She graduated from Milton High School and the former Burlington Business College. On April 1, 1949, she married Eugene C. Towne in Milton.
Despite a multitude of evidence to the contrary, Arlene believed in Knights in Shining Armor. Eugene proved her right, with his loving care over the last several years of her life.
Arlene was active in the Vermont Farm Bureau for many years, holding a variety of offices and always advocating for the family farm. She was active in her community and could always be counted on for her pies, baked beans and other baked goods for church and school functions. Arlene was a loving, caring woman, who taught compassion and kindness by example through such acts as going back to pick up abandoned kittens by the roadside because she couldn't sleep knowing that a tiny, innocent creature was frightened and hungry.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Eugene Towne of Milton, Bruce Towne and his wife Kathleen of Colchester, Patricia Ward of Sebastipol, Calif., and Pamela Danaher and her husband Steven of Milton; her grandchildren, Lisa Ward, Schuyler and Sydney Towne, Anna Danaher, Carrie Roy, Liza Garcia and MacDonald Dates; her two great-grandchildren, Eric Roy and Alyssa Garcia; her mother, Cora Littlefield of Milton; her brothers, Harold Littlefield Jr. and his wife Beverly, and Charles Littlefield and his wife Nancy, all of Milton. She also leaves a close friend, Marilyn LaGrow of Fairfield. She was predeceased by her father, as well as a granddaughter, Megan Ward.
Funeral services will be held today, Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. in the United Church of Milton. Burial will be in the Milton Village Cemetery in the spring.

MARGARET CLAIRE CONCANNON
ESSEX JCT./ST. ALBANS -- Margaret Claire Concannon, 99, recently of Essex Jct., died at Haven Health Center in St. Albans on Jan. 1, 2003, after a short illness. She was born on Dec. 15, 1903, in Bridgton, Maine, the daughter of Frank and Effie G. (Brown) Hill.
Margaret graduated from Bridgton High School in 1922 and worked for the following 20 years in the local bank. On May 7, 1942, she married Richard P. Concannon of Portland, Maine. He died in 1973.
Margaret taught piano for over 60 years in Maine, New Hampshire, Northfield, Vt. and in Essex Jct. from 1966 until 1987. She enjoyed art, music, poetry and writing. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Essex Art League, AARP, and Friends of Brownell Library.
She is survived by her son, James, and his wife, Carol, of Milton; her granddaughter Julie Concannon and her husband Marc Choiniere and her great-grandson Samuel Choiniere of St. Albans; her sister-in-law Eunice Concannon of Westbrook, Maine; and her cousins Rachel Graffam and Clifford and Floyd Perham of Maine.
Funeral services will be at St. Lawrence Church, 158 West St., Essex Jct. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Jct. today, Friday, Jan. 3, from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Bridgton, Maine in the spring.

ROBERT NELSON ROSE
SWANTON -- Robert Nelson Rose, 66, a lifelong resident of the Swanton community, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in his Second Street residence.
He was born in Swanton, May 27, 1936, the son of the late Leonard and Etta Mae (Hilliker) Rose.
Robert graduated from Swanton High School and received his teaching degree from the University of Vermont. He was a longtime history teacher at Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. He was also member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post One in St. Albans.
He leaves his nephew, Phillip Daniel Lipscomb and his wife Connie of Fairfax, Va.
Robert was predeceased by his father Leonard in 1944, his mother Etta Mae in 1990 and his sister, Caroline Lipscomb on October 31, 2000.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton with interment following in the Rose family lot in Riverside Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.

THE REVEREND MR. J. LOUIS RAINVILLE
HIGHGATE CENTER -- The Reverend Mr. J. Louis Rainville, 80, Ordained Deacon for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, 2002, in his Gore Road home in Highgate Center.
He was born, June 5, 1922, the son of the late Theophile Jr. and Imelda (Boucher) Rainville. He attended schools in Canada and Highgate and on June 15, 1949, married the former Georgette Parent who survives him.
On June 23, 1983, in The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington Mr. Rainville was ordained to the Diaconate for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington by the late Bishop John A. Marshall. Since his ordination he has served devoutly the parish community of St. Louis in Highgate Center. Among his responsibilities were serving on all parish boards including Chairman of The Annual Bishop's Fund Appeal, was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus, St. Edmund of Canterbury Council 7669. He also served the diocese as director of Catholic Rural Services.
Besides his diaconate duties Deacon Rainville was a lifelong dairy farmer and served as the first president of the Franklin County National Farmers Organization. He was also active for the Town of Highgate serving as a longtime Lister and Justice of the Peace and in 1979 received the Franklin County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved trapping and hunting especially fox and geese.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Georgette of Highgate Center, Deacon Rainville leaves his 13 children and their spouses, Marie M. and Warren Hull of West Enosburg, Bernard and Susan Rainville of Highgate, Veronica and Alan Wright of Highgate, Michael and Carol Rainville of East Fairfield, Frances and Fernand Cloutier of Coventry, Adrian and Marie Rainville of Franklin, Norma and Paul Malone of Barre, Lawrence and Brenda Rainville of Highgate, Eddie and Jeanne Rainville of Franklin, Luke and Marianne Rainville of Highgate, Irene and Dominic Geffken of Worcester, Mass., Lisa and Tim Pare of St. Albans and John Rainville and his fiancee Judi Dandurand of Franklin; two brothers, Maurice Rainville of Swanton and Raymond Rainville and his wife Solange of Highgate; one sister and brother in-law, Helen and Ulys Parent of Enosburg; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne D'Arc Rainville of Swanton; 25 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Wilfred, Henri, Emile and Rene Rainville and three sisters, Yvonne Reil, Marianne Desaney and Marguerite Beaulieu, predeceased him.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. The Most Reverend Kenneth A. Angell, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington will be the principle celebrant. Father Marcel R. Rainville. SSE, Deacon Rainville's nephew will deliver the homily. Interment will follow in the Rainville family lot in St. Louis Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, January 5, 2003 in St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers,

VICTORIA FURMAN
SWANTON -- Victoria Furman, 76, a resident of Giordano Manor, 34 Canada St. in Swanton since 1995, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at her residence.
A Polish immigrant to the United States many years ago, Vicky leaves no known surviving family. Her family at The Giordano Manor survives her.
Graveside services and interment will take place Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery. Father John Meagher, SSE, pastor of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton and St. Louis Roman Catholic Parish in Highgate Center, will officiate.
Arrangements have been under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton.
NOELLA M. FAIRBANKS
MONTGOMERY/ST. ALBANS -- Noella M. Fairbanks, age 82, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 31, 2002, at Haven Health Center in St. Albans. She was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Colchester, the daughter of the late Auguste and Hermine (St. Gelais) Lawrence.
She was a resident of Haven Health Center for the past 11 years, where she received tremendous kindness and affection, care from the entire staff. She was also a former resident of Montgomery. Noella was a homemaker and loved children.
She is survived by a sister, Claudia Archer of Waterbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon M. Fairbanks.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at 4 o'clock at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be next spring at St. Isidores Cemetery in Montgomery Center.

DAVID R. LaBELLE
BAKERSFIELD -- David R. LaBelle, age 56, died Monday evening, Dec. 30, 2002, at his home with his family at his side. He was born June 24, 1946, in Franklin, the son of Bessie (Lamonda) LaBelle and the late Lucien LaBelle Sr.
He was a resident of Bakersfield most of his life and was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the service, he was employed as a truck driver for Champlain Valley Fruit Co. He then worked for Holmes Transportation for 16 years, retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, he owned and operated David's Lawn Mowing Service for several years, retiring from that in 1997, due to poor health; during that time, he could always be seen riding with his dog, Dally.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Hughes) LaBelle of Bakersfield; a son, Mark LaBelle, his wife, Rebekah, and their children, Ashley and Katie; a daughter, Shannon Mitchell and her husband Bradley, all of East Fairfield; his mother, Bessie Riley of Fletcher, residing at Holiday House Nursing Home in St. Albans; a brother, Lucien LaBelle Jr. and his wife Ruth of Terryville, Conn.; two sisters and their husband, Doris and Roger Jutras, and Mary and Graydon Lumbra, all of Bakersfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives were able to call on the family one hour prior to the funeral, which was to be held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held next spring in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
