Robert W. Nichols
Brandon, Vermont
Robert William Nichols, 70, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at the Hawkins Farm in Ferrisburgh.
Mr. Nichols was born in Orwell on June 29, 1929. He was the son of Harold and Jennie (Taylor) Nichols. He received his early education in Orwell Schools and later attended Barstow High School. In his earlier years he had worked for the Clarence Munger Slaughterhouse in Orwell. Afterwards, he farmed for Steinberg & Sons in Brandon. In 1958 he opened his own business, Bob Nichols Slaughterhouse in Brandon, and continued until his death.
Surviving is his wife Ruthie (Christian) Nichols of Brandon, whom he married in Orwell on April 23, 1949; seven children, Cricket Greeno of Sudbury, Jim Nichols of Brandon, Andrea Lamphere of Sudbury, Patricia Hetzel of North Clarendon, Jeff Nichols of Rutland, Rob Nichols of Brandon and Stacie Woodward of Brandon; 17 grandchildren; Nick, Mary and Brent Greeno, Jamie (Nichols) Pockette, Joel Nichols, Leigh, Kate and Joe Lamphere, Jennie (Hetzel) Haney, Christopher and Angela Hetzel, Jacob and Amy Nichols, Jon and Beth Gallagher, Taylor and Rachel Woodward and 4 great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jessica Greeno, James Greeno, Allyson McDonough and many nieces and nephews; a special daughter Francis Carver and her husband Doug and their children Jenel and Dayn.
He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Alric, Hayden, Earl and Ted Nichols; two sisters, Mary Cushman and Vera Kissel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 2000 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon. The Reverend Albert "Skip" Baltz officiated. A private graveside committal followed in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Lawrence E. Tanner
Bristol, Vermont
Lawrence E. Tanner, 77, died Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
He was born December 22, 1922 in Bakersfield, the son of Henry S. Tanner and Emma (Fleury) Young.
Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Lawrence was a dairy farmer for 40 years in the Bristol area.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce (Copeland) Tanner, of Bristol; four daughters, Roberta and her husband Ronald MacDonald of Florida, Barbara and her husband Jerry Kennett of Barre, Joanne Tanner of Bristol, Debra and her husband Danny Grace of Bristol; 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Tanner of New York, three sisters; Hester McGarrett of Florida, Ada Hardy and Wilma Boutin, both of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was predeceased by his son Michael L. Tanner in 1981 and a brother Wesley in 1951.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 22, 2000 at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment was in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Bristol

Hilda M. Bruyneel
Orwell, Vermont
Hilda Madison Bruyneel, 85, died Friday, January 21, 2000 at her son's home in Orwell.
She was born November 8, 1914 in Goffstown, New Hampshire, a daughter of Alfred and Beulah (Goodhue) Englehardt. She attended Goffstown High School. In 1936, she married August C. Bruyneel. Together, the couple moved to Weare, New Hampshire, where they owned and operated a poultry hatchery. In 1959 they sold the hatchery and moved back to Goffstown. Mrs. Bruyneel then worked as a savings counselor at the United Federal Savings & Loan in Manchester, New Hampshire. Following the death of her husband in 1997, she then moved to Vermont, where she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Brenda Bruyneel. She was active in Project Independence in Middlebury, and was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Goffstown, where she was twice, Worthy Matron.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Bruyneel and his wife Brenda of Orwell; her daughter, Sylvia Wood and her husband Donald of Rowley, Massachusetts; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her sister.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2000 at 1:00 pm at the Goffstown Congregational Church, Main Street, Goffstown, New Hampshire 03045.

Bernard Brodsky
Brandon, Vermont
Bernard Brodsky, 70, died early Saturday, January 22, 2000 at Mountain View Genesis Eldercare in Rutland.
Mr. Brodsky was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1929. He was the son of Harry and Anna (Stern) Brodsky. He was a graduate of Queens College, New York, Class of 1952. He later earned his Master's Degree from San Jose State College, California in 1971.
Mr. Brodsky was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged as an officer in 1956.
During and following his Naval Career, he had traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean and across the United States. He had taught mathematics at J.F.K. Junior High School, for the Commack, Long Island New York School District. He retired to Brandon in 1986.
Mr. Brodsky was a member of the Brandon Rotary Club. He had served as a volunteer with the National Forest Service, The Middlebury Food Co-op and Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid woodworker whose work was displayed and sold in Inns and shops all around the Brandon area. He was an amateur historian, with a large collection of books on World War II.
Surviving is his wife Judith (Lipton) Brodsky of Brandon, whom he married in New York City, November 26, 1958; two sons, Peter M. Brodsky of Seattle, Washington and Paul H. Brodsky of Bethesda, Maryland; one daughter, Robin J. Brodsky of North Fork, California; a brother, Robert Brodsky of New York City and one sister, Leanore Rosenberg of Boynton Beach, Florida. He is also survived by three nephews, one niece, and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 24, 2000 at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Reverend Richard White, Pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church officiated. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date.

Charles "Bud" Noonan
New Haven, Vermont
Charles G. "Bud" Noonan, 77, died Sunday, January 23, 2000 at his daughter's home in New Haven.
He was born May 22, 1922 in South Bend Washington, a son of Grover and Gladys Noonan. He received his education in South Bend Schools, and graduated from St. Martin's High School in Olympia in 1940. He attended Portland University for two years before enlisting in the US Navy. After serving for three years in the South Pacific, Bud returned to Washington and completed his education, receiving his degree in Music from Seattle University. He then attended the American Institute of Baking in Chicago, graduating as a Master Baker. He took over the family bakery from his father in the 1950's and operated it until his retirement in 1984, completing a 73-year family career in the bakery business. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in the Raymond/South Bend area. After his retirement, he became a "beachcomber," enjoying spending time walking on the beach. Bud visiting Vermont two time a year until August 1999, when he moved to New Haven and resided with his daughter.
He is survived by his daughter, Doumina Noonan of New Haven.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Hadla Basil Noonan, his brother Dave Noonan and his sisters, Betty Ann Robson and Mary Frances Noonan.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in Washington State.
