Mrs. Ruby L. Bentivegna
SWANTON -- Mrs. Ruby L. Bentivegna, 91, a resident of this area for several years, passed away on Saturday evening, Dec. 28, 2002, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans. She was born in Franklin on March 21, 1911, the daughter of the late Carmi and Mina (Valley) Lawyer. She was the widow of James V. Bentivegna, who died on October 15, 2000.
She was a member of Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion Auxiliary in St. Albans.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sylvia and Charles Ives of Swanton; two sons and their wives, Douglas and Loisanne Underwood of St. Albans and Howard Underwood of Ruther Glen, Va.; a sister, Justine Smith of St. Albans; grandchildren, Deborah Berstler, Dare Harris, Susan Roles, Kathy Ballou, and Deborah Gershman, all of Virginia, Michael Underwood of West Enosburg, Dr. Mark Underwood and his wife, Dr. Victoria Underwood of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Susan Lamay of Pittsford, Vt., Melody Ives Cote of Swanton, Danny Ives of Highgate, John Ives of East Richford, and Lori Ives of Deerfield, N.H.
She also leaves 20 great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Jessica Danforth, who cared for Ruby when she was able to be at home; and a great-great-granddaughter, Angel Tremblay. She was predeceased by husbands James Bentivegna, Leon Oligny and Harold Underwood; a sister, Stella Underwood; a daughter-in law, Jean Underwood; and a great-grandson, Matthew Charles Ives, who died in a tragic ATV accident August 11, 2002.
In keeping with Ruby's request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be next spring in the family lot at Union Cemetery in East Franklin.
Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans.
CARMIE C. "BILL" DOW-DESROSIERS
ADDISON/ST. ALBANS -- Carmie C. "Bill" Dow-Desrosiers, age 82, died Dec. 25, 2002, in Addison after a brief illness. He was born in Stanbridge East, Quebec, April 18, 1920. He served in the Canadian Army from 1939 to 1945. He retired from Swanton Packaging Co. where he was a meat cutter for many years. He resided in Addison with his cousin Donald and Cheryl Ploof in recent years. Carmie loved to hunt and fish and was an avid TV watcher and a famous CB operator and scanner programmer.
He is survived by his daughters, Delores Johnson and her husband Christopher in Highgate, Marguerite Lamb of Buckfield, Maine; step-children, Charlotte Valliers of Auburn, Maine, Charles Dow of California, Thomas Towney of Maryland, Ronald Grissom of S. Paris, Maine; sisters, Marion Young of St. Albans and Jessie LaGrow of St. Albans; brother, Gene Desrosiers of Enosburgh; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Pearl (Ducharme) Desrosiers; sisters, Pearl Bonnette and Betty Brossard; and a brother, Edmund Desrosiers.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan., 3, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. There will be no public calling hours. Inurnment will be in the Sheldon Village Cemetery in the spring.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
NORA G. BOOMHOWER
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Nora G. Boomhower, age 82, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at her home in St. Albans. She was born in St. Albans April 8, 1920, daughter of the late Ethan Allen and Mary Ann (Dennis) Garrison.
She was employed by N.Y.A. Sewing Project and later at St. Albans Hospital and private home care. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. To her family and friends she was affectionately known as "Brown Sugar."
September 10, 1942, she married Archie J. Boomhower. He died June 26, 1972. Her survivors include her four children, Gloria Clogston, Arthur Boomhower, Wayne Boomhower, all of St. Albans, and Ramona Johnston of Johnson; 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, David Boomhower (twin of Wayne).
Funeral services will be private. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
KATHERINE E. "KAY" (FULLER) HISLOP
FAIRFAX -- Katherine Esther "Kay" (Fuller) Hislop, age 84, passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born Oct. 11, 1918 in Johnson, Vermont, daughter of the late Elbridge and Glenna Mae (Chase) Fuller.
She was active in her community as a past member of the Cambridge Grange, Cambridge Congregational Church, Pleasant Valley Home Dem. and officer of the Farm Bureau. Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, embracing all of her children with unconditional love. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton Hislop of Fairfax; four sons, Carroll Bryce and his wife Venus of Alburg, Olin Bryce, Jr. and his wife Zona of Cambridge, James Bryce and Betty Martell of Fairfax, and Richard Bryce and his wife Sheila of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Virginia Hanker of Essex Junction, Lucille Jimmo of Bristol, Glenna Bruley of St. Albans, and Esther Meyer and her husband William of Montpelier; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Richard Fuller, Leslie Fuller and Eugene Fuller.
There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the Spring in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kay's memory to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., So. Burlington, Vt. 05403.

POLLY MOFFETTE ROOT
MONTPELIER/BURLINGTON -- Polly Moffette Root, 69, died Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington. Polly is best remembered as a wonderful mother and as an artist. She loved music and nature and she instilled those loves in her children.
Polly was born in Bridgeport, Conn. on Dec. 22, 1933, the daughter or Robert and Deborah (Sanford) Moffette.
Most recently, she was self employed as a bird carver and was a member of the Vermont Handcrafters Association. Polly was a teacher, bookkeeper, toy maker and owner of Weston Toyworks, and former Executive Director of the Montpelier American Red Cross.
Polly's husband, Robert C. Root, predeceased her in 1975.
She is survived by her daughters, Caroline Tirabassi and her husband George of Wichita, Kansas, Deborah Jorgenson and her husband Andy of Woodbridge, Va.; and her son, Robert M. Root of Milton. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Kristin, George III, Laura Tirabassi, and Polly G. Root, and her sister Deborah Hall of Damascus, Md.
Polly's family expresses their deep gratitude for the compassionate care she received from the special care unit staff at Birchwood.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 1, 2003, at 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be in the Weston Cemetery, in Weston, Vt. in the spring.
