ELVA "TEDDY" RODERICK
BURLINGTON/ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Elva "Teddy" Roderick, age 89, died Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2002, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Center following an extended illness. She was born in Randolph June 21, 1913, daughter of the late Clinton and Josephine (Sweeny) Wimble. She was a store detective for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in Boston, for over 25 years.
Her survivors include her grandchildren, William Wakefield of Colchester, and Patricia Bushey of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her sister, Betty Millette of South Burlington; six great-grandchildren, Josi, Jamie, Eric, Danielle, Murphy, Joshua; two great-great-grandchildren, Makayla and Damian Neil; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Harry T. Carrington and Anthony Roderick. Her daughter, June Wakefield, died May 31, 1990; her son-in-law, Neil T. Wakefield died Sept. 15, 1996; and her grandson, Michael Wakefield died Aug. 1, 1985.
Funeral services were to be held today, Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Friends called at the funeral home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the Roderick/Wakefield family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
MICHELLE L. SNIDER
RICHFORD/ENOSBURG -- Michelle L. Snider, age 27, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born April 22, 1975, in St. Albans, the daughter of Norman and Tina (Couture) Snider.
Michelle was a life long resident of Richford and a 1993 graduate of Richford High School, where in her senior year, she was the Captain of the Cheer Leading Squad. She was also a 1994 graduate of the Vermont college of Cosmetology in Burlington, following graduation, she was employed in the hair salon at JCPenney's in Burlington until 1999. She then was employed at G's Sassy Salon in Richford until she could no longer work, due to her illness.
Michelle showed great strength while battling cancer and could always smile, even during her toughest times. Her life revolved around her family, especially her two daughters.
She is survived by her mother, Tina Snider of Richford; her father, Norman Snider of Richford; her daughters, Breanna Paquette and Bailey Brunelle, both of Enosburg; her brother, Chad Snider, his wife Tracy and their children, Ryan and Hayley, all of Richford; her sister, Christie Snider, her fiance Shawn Hogaboom and their children, Logan and Gage, all of Enosburg; her fiance Tim Hayes and his children, Tonya, Travis, and Traver Hayes, all of Enosburg; her maternal grandparents, Marcel and Gala Dragon of Enosburg; her paternal grandparents, Edward and Barbara Snider of Sheldon; several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
A graveside service was to be held today, Monday at 1 p.m. at the Richford Center Cemetery with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. There were no visiting hours.

ERNESTINE (HEBERT) RATTA
ALBURG / BRISTOL, Conn. -- Ernestine (Hebert) Ratta, 70, a native of Alburg, and presently of Harrison Street in Bristol, Conn., departed this world on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Alburg, May 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Hebert and Linda (Bedard) Howell. Ernestine is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Carl F. Ratta and her five cherished children and their spouses, Carline and Ronald Siemiatkoski Sr. of Bristol, Conn., Michael and Annette Ratta III of Kissimmee, Fla., Annette and Thomas Akers of Terryville, Conn., Tammie and George Valeriay of Bristol, Conn. and Mark and Dianna Ratta of Terryville, Conn. Ernestine is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren all of whom she was very proud of; and her siblings, Marie (Hebert) Berger of Bristol, Conn., and Leonard Hebert and his wife Sue of Warren, OR. Ernestine also leaves her very special in-laws all of Vermont: Leona Breault, Warren and Elvie Ratta, and Ernest and Barbara Pelkey along with may loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ernestine will forever be remembered as a wonderful woman who always found the time to help others. Whether it be to lend an ear or a shoulder to cry on, you could always count on her to be there. She loved a good joke and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. But most of all she loved to spend time in Vermont especially on Isle La Motte and at St. Anne's Shrine. Ernestine will be truly missed by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. from St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. The pastor, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Ratta family lot in St. Amadeus Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ernestine's memory may be made to St. Anne's Shrine, Isle La Motte, Vt. 05463.
MARY JANE RUSHFORD
GEORGIA -- Mary Jane Rushford, 84, died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at her home in Georgia. Mary was born in Winooski on May 25, 1918, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Connell) Lyons.
She had been married to Albert Brouillette and Robert Rushford, who both predeceased her. Mary had worked for the Woolen Mills in Winooski for over 20 years and for the Aerospace Program for General Electric, retiring in 1972.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Tourangeau of Milton, and Mary Roberts and her husband Paul of Hillsboro, Mo.; by nine grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Claire Tresler of Georgia and Rachel Jones of Scottland, N.C.; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son, Frederick; and her siblings, Gloria Lyons, Edna Parsons, Rita Laughton, James and Joseph Lyons.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Minor Funeral Home in Milton.
RUBY L. (UNDERWOOD, OLIGNY) BENTIVEGNA
SWANTON -- Mrs. Ruby L. Bentivegna, 91, a resident of this area for several years, passed away on Saturday evening, Dec. 28, 2002, at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans. She was born in Franklin on March 21, 1911, the daughter of the late Carmi and Mina (Valley) Lawyer. She was the widow of James V. Bentivegna, who died on October 15, 2000.
She was a member of Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion Auxiliary in St. Albans.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Sylvia and Charles Ives of Swanton; two sons and their wives, Douglas and Loisanne Underwood of St. Albans and Howard Underwood of Ruther Glen, Va.; a sister, Justine Smith of St. Albans; grandchildren, Deborah Berstler, Dare Harris, Susan Roles, Kathy Ballou, and Deborah Gershman, all of Virginia, Michael Underwood of West Enosburg, Dr. Mark Underwood and his wife, Dr. Victoria Underwood of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Susan Lamay of Pittsford, Vt., Melody Ives Cote of Swanton, Danny Ives of Highgate, John Ives of East Richford, and Lori Ives of Deerfield, N.H.
She also leaves 20 great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Jessica Danforth, who cared for Ruby when she was able to be at home; and a great-great-granddaughter, Angel Tremblay. She was predeceased by husbands James Bentivegna, Leon Oligny and Harold Underwood; a sister, Stella Underwood; a daughter-in law, Jean Underwood; and a great-grandson, Matthew Charles Ives, who died in a tragic ATV accident August 11, 2002.
In keeping with Ruby's request, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be next spring in the family lot at Union Cemetery in East Franklin.

CARMIE C. "BILL" DOW-DESROSIERS
ADDISON/ST. ALBANS -- Carmie C. "Bill" Dow-Desrosiers, age 82, died Dec. 25, 2002, in Addison after a brief illness. He was born in Stanbridge East, Quebec, April 18, 1920. He served in the Canadian Army from 1939 to 1945. He retired from Swanton Packaging Co. where he was a meat cutter for many years. He resided in Addison with his cousin Donald and Cheryl Ploof in recent years. Carmie loved to hunt and fish and was an avid TV watcher and a famous CB operator and scanner programmer.
He is survived by his daughters, Delores Johnson and her husband Christopher in Highgate, Marguerite Lamb of Buckfield, Maine; step-children, Charlotte Valliers of Auburn, Maine, Charles Dow of California, Thomas Towney of Maryland, Ronald Grissom of S. Paris, Maine; sisters, Marion Young of St. Albans and Jessie LaGrow of St. Albans; brother, Gene Desrosiers of Enosburgh; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Pearl (Ducharme) Desrosiers; sisters, Pearl Bonnette and Betty Brossard; and a brother, Edmund Desrosiers.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Jan., 3, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Chapel. There will be no public calling hours. Inurnment will be in the Sheldon Village Cemetery in the spring.

NORA G. BOOMHOWER
ST. ALBANS -- Mrs. Nora G. Boomhower, age 82, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at her home in St. Albans. She was born in St. Albans April 8, 1920, daughter of the late Ethan Allen and Mary Ann (Dennis) Garrison.
She was employed by N.Y.A. Sewing Project and later at St. Albans Hospital and private home care. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. To her family and friends she was affectionately known as "Brown Sugar."
September 10, 1942, she married Archie J. Boomhower. He died June 26, 1972. Her survivors include her four children, Gloria Clogston, Arthur Boomhower, Wayne Boomhower, all of St. Albans, and Ramona Johnston of Johnson; 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, David Boomhower (twin of Wayne).
Funeral services will be private. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will be in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

KATHERINE E. "KAY" (FULLER) HISLOP
FAIRFAX -- Katherine Esther "Kay" (Fuller) Hislop, age 84, passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans. She was born Oct. 11, 1918 in Johnson, Vermont, daughter of the late Elbridge and Glenna Mae (Chase) Fuller.
She was active in her community as a past member of the Cambridge Grange, Cambridge Congregational Church, Pleasant Valley Home Dem. and officer of the Farm Bureau. Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, embracing all of her children with unconditional love. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Clifton Hislop of Fairfax; four sons, Carroll Bryce and his wife Venus of Alburg, Olin Bryce, Jr. and his wife Zona of Cambridge, James Bryce and Betty Martell of Fairfax, and Richard Bryce and his wife Sheila of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Virginia Hanker of Essex Junction, Lucille Jimmo of Bristol, Glenna Bruley of St. Albans, and Esther Meyer and her husband William of Montpelier; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Richard Fuller, Leslie Fuller and Eugene Fuller.
There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the Spring in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Kay's memory to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., So. Burlington, Vt. 05403.

POLLY MOFFETTE ROOT
MONTPELIER/BURLINGTON -- Polly Moffette Root, 69, died Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington. Polly is best remembered as a wonderful mother and as an artist. She loved music and nature and she instilled those loves in her children.
Polly was born in Bridgeport, Conn. on Dec. 22, 1933, the daughter or Robert and Deborah (Sanford) Moffette.
Most recently, she was self employed as a bird carver and was a member of the Vermont Handcrafters Association. Polly was a teacher, bookkeeper, toy maker and owner of Weston Toyworks, and former Executive Director of the Montpelier American Red Cross.
Polly's husband, Robert C. Root, predeceased her in 1975.
She is survived by her daughters, Caroline Tirabassi and her husband George of Wichita, Kansas, Deborah Jorgenson and her husband Andy of Woodbridge, Va.; and her son, Robert M. Root of Milton. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Kristin, George III, Laura Tirabassi, and Polly G. Root, and her sister Deborah Hall of Damascus, Md.
Polly's family expresses their deep gratitude for the compassionate care she received from the special care unit staff at Birchwood.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday evening, Jan. 1, 2003, at 7 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton. Burial will be in the Weston Cemetery, in Weston, Vt. in the spring.
